Hey, when you shake your phone do you hear something loose ? Like something plastic? The sound it makes when you open bar code scanner. Is it the camera ?

thats the autofocus on the camera.
thanks -
i was wondering the same thing when opening bar code scanner lol. thanks for clearing that up.
You may also be listening to the accelerometers. These usually make a small amount of noise.
This noise can also be heard on HTC Touch Diamond 2 and HTC Hero. I have been told in the past it is the focusing mechanism in the camera lens and it certainly sounds as if it is coming from the area of the camera. I have never known it to cause a problem.
except that it is close to the earpiece speaker and the external speaker, I think something is vibrating during calls causing some distortion.

accelerometers dont make any noise that can be heard through the case of the phone.

Hi guys.
I have a little audio problem with my Himalaya/i-mate/XDA II/MDA II/Qtek 2020 or whatever you like to call it.
The internal speaker seems to have a contact with something metallic or hard plastic. At the max earpiece volume, when calling, the ringing tone is distorted. When lowering the volume, it does not do this. It seems that, when the plastic membrane is moving, to reproduces the loud sound, it touches something hard and it distorts the sound. Does anyone have experienced this? I want to try to fix this. I paid hard won money for this marvellous device, and I do not want my experience to be ruined by bad audio.
Thanks for the help guys!
Not sure if its the same thing but when i played any sound it crakled a little. Did not bother me until the camera sound went on and off every 1 second. Did a hard reset and seemed ok until it happened again so i did another hardware reset went through all the programs i had instaled until it happened again. So i reset a third time without instaling that program(cant remember the name of it) but it works ok now.
I know what you mean Patrick..and if you hold your thumb over the earpiece it sounds a bit better, though of course muffled.
This is something that does bother me as I sometimes use the loudspeaker call option. Other phones don't have this problem in loudspeaker and it surprises me the II does this, as apart from a slightly rattly volume adjuster the build of my II is significantly better than the XDAI.
Just one of those things we have to put up with in order to have such an otherwise great piece of kit, though I'm equally surprised the manufacturers didn't notice it!
Anthony
Thanks a lot !
Yeah, your description and the thumb thing is exactly what I mean. I wonder if it's the speaker membrane itself or a contact with something? Maybe it could be fixed?
Thanks a lot guys!
It may be a warranty claim, you need full volume when using the speakerphone, get in touch with the service centre.
I have the same exact problem... The sound distorts if you have it set too loud.
I guess it's just the el cheapo speaker or poor design.
Hi guys, i have the same problem and its bugging me alot, any sugesstion or solution???? is it a hardware problem or did we install some software that case this? my XDAII still has warranty do you sugest me to go for service center or just live with this problem.
Thanks
Well Iam not saying its a good thing but Iam happy to see Iam not the only one experiencing this problem with the speaker although I dont own XDA II but XDA IIi or Qtek2020i whatever way you wanna call it. I also wondered if it is a harware problem couldn't we replace the speaker with a better quality one? In my case this jitter mettalic sound does not happen only in speaker mode but also in normal mode as long as the volume is set close to max or max.
My Qtek2020i has the metallic sound only when it's a large amount of humidity and very hot outside.
It seems that the speaker suffer a lot from humidity, it also happen when i keep it in my jeans pocket and i prespire a lot. After half an hour when it dries out, everything is ok.
Unusual rattling sound, shake your Phone, Thanks
My Xperia has a very unusual rattling sound coming from near the speaker of the handset
Are any of you experiencing this problem, it sounds very much like a loose component inside
Any chance a few X1 Xperia owners can give their phone a quick shake and see if you can hear any obvious components rattling.
Sounds like i need to send it back to the suppliers
Thanks for your help, much appreciated

I have that too, but I don't think it's anything to worry about because when I put a finger on the optical joystick and shake, the rattle is gone..
But if it rattles even though you have a finger on the optical joystick, you may be in trouble.. I mean your phone..
Yup i hear the same rattle. Its not as bad as the noise from the opening the keyboard on touch pro but there is a definitely a rattle
It's the auto focus of the camera, all X1's have the same noise.

Hiya mate, appreciate all the help,
You said as you hold the optical joystick you can’t hear any other sounds?
That helps a lot seeing as when I hold the joystick the rattle noise coming from the speaker phone is much louder than the joystick noise, it almost sounds like a loose screw, I think I might send it back just to be on the safe side and get a replacement sent.
It may also be the auto focus as mentioned highly possible thanks for the reply
Anymore takes on the matter would be appreciated
Thanks again
Hi, I have the same noise too when I shake the phone. It is a 1 day old X1A. Should I be concerned?
No, it's normal.
I noticed that even though the phone is muted and all sounds are off, sometimes there is a clicking noise coming from the speaker when I press buttons that would normally make a noise IF the phone wasn't muted. Is that common?
I've noticed this too, it seems to be a very quiet clicking sound though, and its kind of intermittent, it only happens every 3 or 4 clicks.
Yes, thats correct!
Have you been able to find a fix?
I first commented on this issue on the official CM10.1 thread but realized it was off-topic to do so.
For me, turning off click sounds in Settings fixes the issue although if you put it on Sound or Vibrant mode, you won't be able to hearing any clicks

Im having this issue as well, anyone been able to find a fix ? anyone using a custom rom that makes this go away ?
Me too. Both N4s.
[LG NEXUS⁴] [CARBON] [MATR1X]
i have it too.
and thing that comes to my mind. as you all know speaker on N4 is constantly buzzing (due to bad electric isolation or smth like that)
so could it be that touching the device makes some kind of electrical interference (i dont know how to express what i mean) and we hear it through the speaker ?

I had this on my previous android device (LG P990). I think it's just a software bug on ALSA.

I've noticed this too... I'm waiting for 4.3...
HI there guys.
Brand new to this forum.
I've searched for days and I'm unable to find a solution.
I'm experiencing a crackling or a distortion on phone calls at certain volumes. I noticed it with certain pitches in peoples voices it would cause a vibration in the ear speaker and some distortion in the sound. Kind of like the speaker is being over driven or has too much power going to it. It usually goes away if I turn the volume almost all the way down, but this is obviously not a practical option since I'm not always making phone calls in a dead silent room. The speaker phone works fine. This only happens when I'm using the earpiece. Is this normal? Is it related to the camera autofocus sensor rattle? Are the sound vibrations from a person's voice enough to set off the rattle? It's really annoying as I tend to make phone calls a lot and I don't like using speaker phone or a headset. Does anyone else have this problem?
From what I can tell, it happened and was normal in the S4. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280930).
Please help. Im deciding if i need to return it.

It's too bad that you didn't describe it in more detail.. i.e. give us steps to replicate it. A recording of the distortion would have been helpful too. I haven't noticed what you describe but it sounds like the gain or auto gain is too high and your earpiece speaker is being overdriven.
There is a gain setting in the service mode menu but first you need to distinguish an app issue or possibly damaged speaker before messing around in the hidden settings. See if you can find an audio app that will give you a wider adjustment range for your system volume and gain.,

Thank you for the reply.
If you go into the service menu, the go into the low frequency test. At 100hz and 200 hz there is a little bit of buzz in the headset reciever unless you really push it against your face (which i assume kind of tightens the spaces in the plastic and prevents whatever vibration in the speaker is occuring).
Hmm.. the vibration is akin to as if you were speaking into some cellophane wrap; like some film (maybe for waterproofing) is covering the speaker.
Oh. It's also worth noting that I cannot replicate the issue on Skype or Viber. Those sound crystal clear.
Bump. Anyone?
Has anyone noticed when you launch an app, and the speaker starts, it makes a little click sound? Is this normal? Is it just the speaker turning on? I'm a bit paranoid now since I first thought the speaker was bad, but then compared it to my G3, and now really like it better, but I do notice the ever so slight "click/pop" right before sound starts to come through the speaker. It even kind of does it when the sound stops, and the speaker turns off, but it's much less turning off than when it starts.
Nobody who viewed this thread has a G4 Play that can say yes or no? Can someone please check their phone before I return mine as defective. Just listen close to the speaker, and open an app that plays sound (IE: games), or open YouTube, and start a video. Does the speaker make a slight click sound right before any other sound? Like the speaker is turning on before playing the sound/music/audio? I would hate to return the phone, get a new one, and find out the new one does the same thing as it is normal for all G4 Play phones.
Thanks to all who help test their own for me. Great community this is.
Yes, mine does a faint click as well.

Thanks for your input. Yeah, it's not really noticeable unless it's really quiet, or the phone is up close to my face. I have kind of bad OCD, and when I first heard it, it bothered me, but now I don't really notice at all. I guess it's just the way the speaker works.
It's normal, it needs to wake up the driver so it probably catches some noise from one of the electronic components related.
Said click can also be heard on Bluetooth. If I have my Moto Surround connected and no music playing, I'll hear a hiss every so often while browsing Twitter. Probably a software-side effect (like the aforementioned driver suspicion).
Nope.
