In “Settings,” I went to “Wireless & networks.” Look for the “Mobile Networks” option at the bottom of this listing. The next screen has a “Network Operators” section — tap it. Your Nexus One will search for compatible GSM networks in the area. Once it’s complete, you’ll see the choices, which will consist of T-Mobile and/or AT&T. You’ll also see a choice to Select Automatically — tap it and your phone should say “Registered on network.” That’s it. That’s all I did and I immediately saw the phone jump from EDGE to T-Mobile’s fast 3G network.

Not sure if this will work for others as I have not had any 3G issues but please post your results below.
My speeds haven't changed.

Hello,
I recently bought an unlocked SoftBank X01HT with some English dopod rom. I installed SoftBank original rom 2 days ago and everything is smooth, even with my Rogers sim card. The only thing is that my network indicator on top is now a P instead of a G on the dopod rom. In the X01HT manual they only have a G, 3G maybe some others but no P.
I googled and found that some other provider/rom use other letters like E or U etc. but no P. I also searched the wiki/forums.
I guess the P means the same thing as G, GPRS, since my provider doesn't have 3G everywhere yet. It's no biggie but, why a P ?
Yes.
E = Egde
U = UMTS
Could you post a screen shot, please?

I'm at work and the USB ports blocked, so I'll have to do that at home. I'll post it in around 3 hours.

I'm guessing that it is just Japanese for GPRS or Packet data...
The "p" is for PDC. It's Japan's version of Edge.

cant screen cap mine, but is this not faster:

interesting
is there an equivalent app for other android devices?
it's nothing to do with Speed, it is the Frequency Band your SGS is using to connect to the network for 3G/3.5G(HSPDA)

I wouldn't know it's an internal build in feature of the phone
you can try *#0011# on other Android phones and see if they come up with a similar status screen
I dont even know what they mean
Mine said unknown application and didn't launch the screen

so, I recently moved from the west coast to the East coast due to my job. I have been using the Desire HD and my iphone off and on and just pulled out the DZ and fired her up. when i got connected to the network i saw 3G+. I know it should indicate that im on HSPA+. anyone else see that before? i m currently running Virtuous v1.0.1 (vision). just thought i would share since i did ever see it in Seattle.

Yeah its kind like the mod for cyanagen mod 7 that changes the "H" for "4G". I'm sure this is the same mod but instead uses "3g+"
Yeah, 3G+ would be a better description rather than "H"

Actually, no.
U would be better than 3G.
H is correct.

Is it possible to get the mobile signal strength on GT 7.7
I had try lots of ways but can't successful.
What you mean "get"? To get it as a function in your own app's code or just you want to see it?
Turn off WiFi and you'll see strength bars in notification popup (on the place where you usually see WiFi signal bars).
There are plenty of apps like this one that display signal info:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cellsignaltester.moby
You can also get that in the About page of the device settings. What exactly are you after?
nooooo, use this one instead, this Widget is better

It's all the same data obtained from the phone. A widget tends to suck battery and performance so that's why I recommended a simpler app. Since there are a ton of them, it's really incumbent on the end user to decide what they like.
All of that apps doesn't work on SGS2/Tab7.7 (Exynos-based chipsets).
No, they work (run), but unable to show correct signal level due to a "bug" in modem FW. They always show +85dbm. So the only way to see correct signal strength is the system signal meter in statusbar.
Any way to update the modem driver to fix the Bug ?

Don't think so. Samsung does not care about it - still not fixed even on SGS2, which is already on the market for a long time. Maybe it will be fixed with ICS release, nobody knows.
Hi,
I have started to loose my data connection more frequently in the last days. For some reason
I see see : "Mobile network state: connecting"
After i enable/disable flight more i usually get the data back but its pending allot between Mobile network type: UMTS:3 -> HSPAP:15 -> and sometimes nothing. My signal: strengh is around -79dBm 17 asu (sitting next to a window, third floor if that matters)
Anyone else experiencing data lose ?
Any tips why this happens and what to do?
Checklist Network,
One enter settings for network APN etc .
Two correct modem for network phone and location .
Three correct CSC for network/area
Four problem on original phone providers rom and modem ???
Five might be worth investigation of RIL .
jje
I actually checked my APN. its online.telia.se.
I haven't changed the original Rom so I assume the rest should be correct. I live in Sweden.
Anything in particular I should check,
I'm sort of new in android as well
