I'm not sure if you do it via fastboot or via RA, and which one I download. Anyone wanna help me out please?
I tried a few via RA and none of them work. Maybe I'm not downloading it right? I'm not quite sure.
OR maybe it's because I'm on the desire alpha 17 maybe? I have no idea, I've only flashed one radio a very long time ago and that was when I first rooted my phone. Do i have to wipe always or Am i really just mentally retarded.
I got mine in .zip format and flash via the recovery screen. Radios (ok, at least in my understanding) do not effect the rom at all. There is no reason to wipe as it is not related to the rom. I have tried all three today and yet to find one that seems superior where I live
Which one did you download? I ask this because for the latest radio theres all those choices and the one I tried gave me the Android out of the box thing and then booted immediately into recovery. So...help would be wonderful.

Modaco has it in their forums: http://android.modac...insecure-himem/
The radio update.zip is near the bottom. The update.zip can be flashed from recovery. Just save the file to the sd and flash from recovery. It will reboot to htc screen then have to reboot once more.

See I did flash that image via recovery and instead I got a android out of box thing. You know how when it starts up You get the little nexus icon with the locK? I didn't even get THAT. It then immediately booted into the recovery.
(Funny story. First time i did it I thought i bricked it, and I literally started crying a little bit. I was freaked until i looked back at it. Embarassing )
Now due to gingerbread bootloaders, the best way to fix this 3 button problem and not brick your phone, while getting your device gingerbread ready, it to go to this thread.[MOD][BOOTLOADERS] i897 AT&T Gingerbread bootloaders.
So.. How do we know whether we have or not the "3-Button combo" right now?
Would be useful a guide to dump our "Sbl.bin" file to compare the hashes..
BTW.. Thanks for this!

Turn off your phone and use the 3 button combos to try to boot into recovery or download mode.
If you cant, then you probably want this fix, otherwise this is of no use
If you can get into recovery using the three button method then you have it. If you can't, you don't.
So one file fixes this issue? But has to be flashes over and over??. This is a strange issue indeed! But glad they have a fix now lol
only time I've had the problem is flashing some of the i9000 roms without a reorient kernel
i dont have 3br. have cog 2.1.6 installed. will flashing this give me 3br back permanently or do i have to do it after i flash a new rom every time?

Did you read the OP?
"You can't lose if you have it and if you enable it with a fix you will have to do so every time you flash back to stock."
I currently have cog 2.1.4 can I just flash this over the top? Or do i need to go back to stock?
IT WORKED!!!! (I'm jsg from IRC)
THANKS desingears!
I've got 2 button + usb working now.
3 button recovery also works now.
Both did NOT work before.
I flashed using stock recovery (not clockwork), because untermensch commented on his thread that clockwork would not work. So I renamed to update.zip and used standard recovery.
Confirmation number: 16T5616861584823S
One question, how common is that roms overwrite the sbl?

Mine works in clockwork
Not common at all, but it will now be a part of all my roms from now on.
Maybe this is a dumb question but does this work with 2.1 and 2.2 roms?
Yes

@DG: Thank you -- It totally works! My phone didn't 3 finger salute before and it does now.
Info about my phone in this thread:
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8693181&postcount=129
Now for my newb question: should I do whatever to "brick" my phone, so long as I have a update.zip in /sdcard, the 3 button combo will boot it, yes? Basically, my goal is that if I don't have to worry about this, I won't take my phone back and whine to get another one that does 3 finger. If I'm OK without that, then that's cool. So an answer like "you're fine stfu and enjoy your captivate" or "mmm, man, I can't sleep at night if I had gotten your phone..."
Thanks!
Chris
PS - I made 2 very simple windows batch files for updating via adb and the command line. There's also one which copies everything from /sdcard onto your computer. I also zipped up the 3 files you need to issue adb commands. I tried getting the whole android dev but it doesn't include them.
This is awesome thank you designgears but one quick question. Why do people that don't have the 3bc lose it if they flash back? From the other thread in the vibrant forum it said it flashes to a part of the bootloader which is never touched by flashes or the manufacturer.

All of the one-click odin's have the older sbl tht doesnt play nice with your phone for some reason... if you flash any other rom you are fine.
thanks dg! works great!
I ran it through Rom Manager, worked perfect.
EDIT: you mentioned that you will be adding this to the future of all your cognition roms. So I'm assuming I won't need to flash this 3buttoncombozip when Cog2.2beta8 comes out right?
Works great
thanks dg
i love you designgears. it worked. and i'm happy.

Does your I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low-designgears fix the 3 button combo problem? If I need to restore to something using download mode I would like to use a one-click with the fix included.
The official bug tracker for Cyanogen only lists up to version 6.1.2. It would be nice if there was a place where we could go that allowed us to search for open issues or problems by nightly build number, and phone platform.
Not necessarily a bug tracker for the devs to use since they have their own methodology, but something that end users could use to determine at what point they would take the plunge and install CM7.
Reading through hundreds of pages of posts and figuring out what is and isn't an issue is nearly impossible.
Thoughts?
dude....nightlies are for testing purposes only. no changelogs. no bug submissions. flash at your own risk. some of the problems are rom related some aren't. wait for an RC if you want something stable with a changelog.
I'm talking something unofficial. Reading through 300+ pages of forum posts to figure out if people are having good luck with a build is a huge PITA.
I'm fine with running nightlies, but I don't have the time to read for an hour+ every day to figure out whether or not it's worth upgrading to the newest nightly because something might work better, or if additional features were added. Or maybe some build just completely horks the phone...
I'll agree that it's all in one thread for the most part, but it's still extremely time-consuming to read through it all.
I guess even something as simple as:
- 3282 users like this build
- 234 users hate this build
-- 93% Positive
It would probably have to be split out by platform also.

Its hard for a thread like this because it was likely be very inaccurate. For many reasons. Mainly because people are lazy and don't even read the FAQ that someone else put hard work into for these lazy people.... I mean that most problems can be fixed by a simple restart, and you still see idiots that post their problem in the CM7 thread, as if they are the first to encounter it, then they reboot and ALL FIXED! DERRRRRR! Anyways...back on topic... people like this would be misreporting issues with builds, and then you have multiple specific data and hardware that can cause an issue for one person but the exact same issue cannot be replicated on other devices. Problems, ETC cannot be pinned well enough to start a thread of the nature you are suggesting.
There are 300,000 new Android activations daily. If only 1% of those are MT4Gs, that is 3,000 new MT4Gs activated everyday. If only 10% of those people discover this forum, that is 300 people every day coming here.
Of those 300 new people coming to this forum every day, unfortunately, only 1% can actually search for anything at all. The other 297 post the same damned questions and complaints, over and over and over. And the next day, another 297 people who have never clicked a search button in their lives come here. And it starts again.
Drives me bonkers.

Perfect example. I note now that after hijacking this thread, ksw0080 did replicate the question in a new thread. But there are plenty of posts and threads on this issue ... for those who search.
Hint for ksw0080 -- if you like, you can try TrueBlue_Drew's current method. Click here.

If for some reason the method in my thread wont work for you please leave a post there and I can help you. If you havent tried the method in my thread then WTF?
It looks like ksw0080 has not checked in with the forum since Feb 8, when their question was posted twice. Either s/he managed to solve the problem with the guidance provided, or s/he no longer cares, or s/he has no internet access.
Hi folks, I'm completely new -- not only to this forum, but to rooting phones and installing different firmwares in general. So I apologize if this post is somehow inappropriate. As far as I can tell though, nobody else has succeeded with this and posted about it before, so I just wanted to give a heads up that it is possible.
I've got Cyanogenmod 7.2 working on my Droid 2, which had a 2.3.4 firmware.
First I rooted the phone using phifc's process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773391
Downloaded CM7.2, and blanked out the /system/etc/check_kernel script to "exit 0" per this post on the CM forum: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/50469-installing-cm-from-234/#entry335479
Then I loaded CM7.2 with ClockworkMod Recovery.
Then a would get a boot loop with every reboot. I got past this by performing the following steps:
-Entered the recovery menu by holding 'X' and hitting the power button
-Brought the menu up by hitting both volume rockers simultaneously (The hourglass button didn't work)
-Cleared the caches
I wanted to make a post with all of this information in one place, to save others the hours of searching around I had to do.
EDIT: I forgot the kernel check script step.
D'oh, I just saw supercuttom's post on the CyanogenMod forum below the one I linked, so that's one person that got it working and posted about it. Sorry :-}

Alright, I'm new around here. I searched around a lot on the forums, but didn't find a similar problem.
Phone model: Motorola Defy XT (XT535)
Carrier: It's GSM. So, it doesn't matter, does it?
I found many threads talking about the rooting process of Defy XT, and some of them did help me conduct it without problems. I did meddle around for some time after rooting; Eventually I thought I will change the stock ROM (GB - 2.3.7).
The problem is that, I couldn't find a tested (official/unofficial) ClockworkMod recovery for use with Defy XT. I could do with installing some Chinese release of ICS for Defy XT (SBF), but, I wanted to try CM10; it appeared more fascinating. So, anyway, I thought I could use Koushik's custom recovery build script on his website (builder.clockworkmod.com). So, I did the process of obtaining the stock "recovery.img", plugging it in that script, and obtained a new custom-built CWM. The real problem which I am not able to come out of is now - After flashing it, on the next reboot, it is going into the "MBM-flash mode", and it throws out an "error 0301", and doesn't go further than that. In this mode, I gathered that it will be able to communicate to a computer (RSD lite) over USB, and so, I installed it and was able to detect the device, but I'm not able to find out, what to do next to get it back to normal working condition.
Since that error screen I see now is basically a flashing tool, I was thinking, reflashing the recovery partition with the stock "recovery.img" (have a back up) should solve the problem. But, I'm not able to find out how to do it...
If there is anyone else who has faced a similar problem and found a solution, it would be really good of you to share it. Or, if there is anyone who knows how to work with RSD lite, could you suggest a method to flash the "recovery" section only through this software? (I'm guessing an XML file should be enough, but I don't know how to write it; format).
Hopefully I'll get speedy replies .

Yes... I was trying since yesterday. I was thinking of making a custom SBF to flash the recovery partition with the original one, but seeing the responses on this thread, I decided to cut to the chase and flash it with the Chinese ICS instead (and lost all my data of course). I succeeded to get my phone back up and running, but now, I have nothing but the bare minimum on it. I am trying to root and it, and get all my required apps back.
I still would prefer getting CWM recovery on this. Will keep trying...
