Yes I have searched for this but I just get threads that tell you how to put a quicklink on to turn them off. Basically everytime I unlock the phone it automatically connects to 3G, how can I turn this off?
TIA
Still got this problem, it seems to happen when I get texts or calls as well. The display will
light up and connects the 3G, even happens overnight and uses a lot of the battery. I've turned all the auto stuff off but it still does it! Any ideas???
to stop 3g altogether you can try.... settings menu all settings connections advanced networks and disable hsdpa.

On my old HTC dash I was able to turn off all services independently in a way that i could insure that my phone was off yet I could still use my WiFi. This worked well for vacations so that i did not receive any roaming charges for people who may call my phone while gone. The only thing I think that may work is an app called apndroid? Any other suggestions?
Force EVDO?

you can have wifi on in airplane mode...in sense there is also a setting to disable the mobile network. it even has a convenient little widget. or in mobile network setting u can set it to home only. out of home network evdo wont work with that. u can also change it to only sync data and background services with wifi. if that helps at all

Are you on Sprint? As I understand it, most of the unlimited data plans have no roaming these days...
When you go to wireless and networks and enable airplane mode, you are still able to turn your wifi on..
Nothing should have to be changed to allow this...
When I turn off Mobile Network, I am still able to place calls... I just lose EvDO.
Because after you turn off mobile network, when you press call, it automatically turns it on for the duration of the call.
Turn airplane mode on, and see if you can hit wifi...

Mobile Network != phone radio.
If you turn off Mobile Network, it's turning off data only. The only way to turn off the phone radio without turning on Airplane Mode is to go into *#*#4636#*#* turn it off in Phone Info.
However, wireless should work just fine in Airplane Mode. Just use the Wi-Fi on/off widget from HTC or the Power Control android widget.
While i have an unlimited plan I will be outside the US where there may or may not be sprint coverage. I have turned on airplane mode from both holding down the power as well as from the settings menu. Both options do not allow you to turn on wifi after airplane mode is on. I am still running stock 1.5 sense android. Not sure what others are running.
Hello. I'm sure that this must have been discussed but I cannot find the answer using search. As is surely normal, I use WiFi within the home and GPRS when there is no WiFi available. If WiFi is connected and I go out for a short while, then when I get back in a WiFi area, the WiFi is still connected. However, if I go away for a long time, and GPRS is used for perhaps a regular weather update, then the WiFi disconnects and has to be manually reconnected upon return to home. This leads to GPRS being used in a WiFi area unnecessarily if you forget to re-connect WiFi. Is there a WiFi connection timeout value or any other setting that can be changed? My old TyTN II did not have this problem. Thanks.
Try this CAB
It disable disconnecting WiFi when phone is in sleep mode and with this phone automaticly connects to WiFi when Leo will be in range.
Thanks Franq_23_pl. I think that the CAB just stops WiFi disconnecting when the device is in sleep mode. That will just drain the battery, surely? My old TyTN used to disable WiFi when in sleep mode, but as soon as you switched it on again, WiFi would be enabled and it would connect if in range. The problem with my HD2/Leo is that if I am away from my WiFi for some considerable time (ie, most of the day), then when I get back home and switch the device on, WiFi is disabled, and I have to manually toggle in on. So my question is..... What are the circumstances that cause WiFi to disable itself, and Is there some way of stopping it happening?
OIC now. I think you having some battery saving app and this app turning off WiFi when iz not used. What apps or registry mods you have installed on Leo?
You have the same behavior after hard reset?
My Leo don't disable WiFi. When i go outside (for ex to work) and back after few hours my Leo connecting to my home wireless network automaticly.
I remember, that i had the same problem like you and it was caused by app, which had duty to save battery.
i signed the data plan only contract with UK O2. they block the calling feature on my dell streak which i only can send and receive text.
I am looking for a way to turn off phone module at the mean time keeping wifi on. unfortunately, seem i only can turn phone module off by setting in airplane mode. in such case, i can't use wifi for surfing.
is there any way around this? thx in advance!
Tap the battery icon in the top bar. This should bring down a menu, tap the tick box next to 3G, EDGE, GPRS networks. This will turn off the phone network data connection and leave the Wi-fi on.
This is sadly the closest to getting the phone to how you want, other than taking the sim card out.
I've noticed this problem on a Samsung Captivate and can put it in airplane mode (which also turns off wifi) and then separately turn wifi back on without changing phone.
You can do it with 2.1 rom, I'm using it now to type this..
put it in airplane mode.
then go to settings, wireless networks, wifi and turn it on .
the quick dropdown menu (from the signal status) will also let you turn wifi on when its in airplane mode but not on the 1.6 rom unfortunately.
i c. it's the ROM! damn...
u r right. when yr phone in airplane mode, it won't get charged at all.
Hello to all I have the following problem: When the phone goes in standby i noticed that after a few minutes the phone disconnects from the internet then resume immediately as soon as I touch the phone and the screen turn on.
I have this problem with both Wifi and with the data connection.
I tried to solve the problem with the wifi option enabled in (Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced -> Wifi sleep policy) setting it to Never. But I notice that practically when i wake up the phone from standby , he is not using the wifi connection , but the data connection, and after a few second he will re-connect to wifi.when I'm not using more wifi, but the data connection.
From what I understand after X minutes in Stand by Android will disable the wifi and uses the data connection, and when i "wake up" the phone by turning the phone screen after a few seconds reconnects with wifi.
It 'really frustrating to have internet to that goes "on and off" especially when i am at work and the signal for the data connection is not present, in this case i can't even receive email or whatapp message when the phone in in stand by
Is there a way to force the phone to always use wifi even when it is in standby mode without the "support" of the data connection?
Hi!
up please
well actually if wifi policy is set to never, it should NEVER turn wifi off when the phone is in stand-by (at least it doesnt turn off on my phone), thats just how it works.. have u tried turning ur data connection off ? does it still disconnect ?

If i disable the data connection, the wifi connection just turn off after x minutes when the phone is in the stand by (even if i set to "Never" the wifi sleep policy) and will turn on after few second when i turn on the display. So what can be the problem?
N.B. I have DISABLED all "power save" option and there IS NOT such app like "battery safe" etc...,i have also tried to reset my phone. But the problem is always the same.

Well, actualiy, the policy says: "Keep Wi-Fi ON durung sleep", so you should set it to "Always".
So, did you fix the problem?
As the title suggests, my phone will not connect to known WiFi networks if I do not wake the phone myself.
Image being away from home, having both mobile data and WiFi enabled. The screen is off throughout the whole time and when I reach home it is supposed to connect to my WiFi. Instead, it connects to my WiFi only if I wake the phone. If I leave the phone sleeping (standby) it will stay on mobile data, unless I wake the phone myself.
Is this regular behaviour?
PS. The phone has not problem retaining connection to WiFi networks when sleeping. It just won't make a new connection even to know networks.
There is a setting in wifi settings under advanced where you can change how and when the wifi must be on/off.

If you mean "Keep WiFi on during sleep", I have it enabled already!
Have you played around with power saving settings?
