When i turn my HD2/Leo on, i get a box saying 'cannot connect modem, click here to check settings' or some rubbish
I normally press dismiss and thats that. However, now and again i'll get a screen come up from windows live saying there has been a problem and it keeps repeating, a bit like a bad curry.
I have problems connecting to mobile internet (not over wifi) so I phone O2, they say i need to switch wifi off to connect to 3G internet, i question what about when i'm out and about and no where near wifi? They say, yes or it won't connect. They aint got a clue! My understanding is that if a wifi connection is available then it'll use it, if not if reverts back to 3g, edge etc
I'm currently stuck on the 1.43 ROM, although I'm not sure if a ROM upgrade would do anything, and even if it did, i gotta piss about putting all the stuff and settings correct again (unless there is a back up program?)
How do i get the stock ROM back on if i ever send it back, and do away with the HSPL and put the phone back to standard?
If i do upgrade the ROM, it'll be to a genuine HTC one, hopefully without all the O2 rubbish they insist on messing up the phone with!
I'll be as blunt with you as you've been with your post. I could quite happily help you, but I ain't gonna do it until you edit out all the swearing on your post. I'm not a prude, but you're just plain rude to assume that that's okay.
You'll need to go into advanced mode to edit the title.
Thanks.
ive give up on htc hd2 now im gettin a iphone 3gs from o2 as replacement

That's cool mate - thanks for changing it. We're not all foul mouthed adults on here (I am, just to be clear, just not on the forums )
The message dialog you mention about not being able to connect is just an issue with software trying to use the connection before it's available. I'm hoping that this will be fixed by HTC, but having to close a dialog once every 4 or 5 times I reboot is no big deal so I can live with that.
The wifi problem you mentioned sounds compacted by an idiot at O2 not knowing what they're talking about. I've found that O2 CS range from very helpful and informed, all the way down to bog dwellers who prefer to hang up than listen. (I like to call them Stig.)
Basically, leave the Wifi off, unless you intend on using it. I only say that because of the amount of battery drain you'll get with it constantly searching for wireless sources. As far as the connection goes, yes, you're right. It should use Wifi over 3G, but use 3G if there's no Wifi (or 2G if there's no 3G), whether it's switched on or not.
You may need to check your settings. I'm on O2, so I can give you mine and see if they help.
As far as ROMs go, it's unclear, to be honest, as to what was fixed and whether anything was fixed for everyone or just a few. The whole ROM upgrade and hotfix thing has been very ambiguous, and HTC's descriptions don't help.
Try flashing a newer ROM, if you're up for starting from scratch again. You'll have to use Goldcard or HSPL to do this though, as you can normally only flash O2 ROMs on O2 phones. If you ever needed to send the phone back to O2 then you'd need to flash the original ROM on there first. I believe there's a thread in the ROM section that has the vendor provided stock ROMs, so that's the best thing to look for.
I hope this helps. If, you don't get anywhere with any of this advice then you may simply have a faulty phone. I assume O2 would just replace it for you (or put it in a new box and send it back).
Let us know if you want my O2 settings.
Cheers for that John.
I'm unsure about flashing ROMS to be honest, especially when there is no obvious advantage. It's not that i don't feel confident in doing it, it's if and when the phone needs to go back. I gather that once the HSPL is on there, that's it?
I'm going to see how i get on tonight with it (working nights) and if there's no improvement then I'll have a look around for a Standard Rom to flash, and a program to back the phone up.
I too can live with the modem message, although I can't believe HTC (who are coming through in the market) offer so little support!
I also, don't think O2 should have branded this phone, they didn't with the Iphone, so why these? It just makes support so much harder!

Apple doesn't allow the branding of iphones. Everything has to be Apple's way. If O2 was allowed to brand it they would have.

The oPhone?
Lol, if I don't get the hang of this phone soon, i'll be going back to an oPhone!
Seriously, i'll persevere! John, any idea how to get rid of the Sent from my HTC from the end of emails?
Northernneil,
If you are thinking of changing roms then the stock 1.48 is what is available right now from HTC officially. There are cooked roms on here as well but I would take your time and stick with something that is "familiar", ie the stock roms from HTC, until you get up to speed, knowledge wise.
In terms of backup software try using Sprite Backup or SPB Backup to backup your mail, contacts, etc. Once you have installed a new rom you can restore these items but DO NOT restore your old rom system settings. If you download a trial copy of SPB Backup you will see what I mean.
No offence but please read the relevant threads on here on rom flashing BEFORE you jump in, then read them again so you have a thorough understanding of what you are doing. Good for you to know how to retrieve the situation if it goes wrong.
Hope this is helpful to you.
WB
PS To get rid of the Sent message at the bottom of your emails or even modify it to your taste, do the following on your device:
Go to All Messages then select that so that you can see a list of messages. Then goto Menu>Tools>Options and click on the Signatures box.
Next, from the drop down menu, select your email account. You will see a large bos open up with Sent ...in it.
Delete or change to something of your liking, click OK, job done.
WB
PS You can download the manual direct from HTC as a pdf file.

I obtained an Orange Touch 3G as an upgrade last week and there appears to be no way to adjust the wireless power on this verison of the phone. Does anybody know how to do this? There is no icon for this under the settings tab.
my girlfriend got the same phone last thursday, ive been working ever since to get the thing as close to how HTC intended as possible, orange have made a complete mess of the phone. The biggest problem is that stupid unique thing theyve put in place of the usual wifi settings. if anyone know of a way to get back to the stock HTC Comm Manager without flashing a rom it would be much appreciated.
mjashdown, if you dont like oranges version of touchflo try the iolite version in this thread , its early days but it seem to be running fine on her 3G, it also adds the footprints tab, gets rid of the orange world and replaces it with the standard internet tab and the horrible orange/brown theme is replaced with the standard blue one. like i said its early days but its running perfectly so far.
Orange Workaround?
I have complained to Orange and they are due to call me back today with a workaround for this problem.
Orange Workaround
Had a call back from Orange and the workaround was have a look on the HTC website and see if there is anything to help.
at least they phoned back, thats more than i would have expected. well phone u back it usually just a way for them to get you off the line. as for the advice,i dont know why someone wasted their time to call you back.the problem is not htcs, its orange & their crapware that have caused it.
ive searched all through xda for the stock comm manager but all i can find are themes.
Can't you just set the wlan power by:
Start -> Settings (or Control Panel or whatever) -> Connections -> WLAN -> Energy-Mode
(Translated from german phone)
unfortunaitly not, orange uk have completey replaced the standard wifi settings menus with something they call Unique. i dont know the reasons for this change but its completely useless and doesnt allow any useful settings to be changed.
only thing you can do is flash phone to another rom, I have just done that with mine and it's great, orginal htc rom is much better and faster totaly recomend doing it,
the orange unique is quite a clever thing from orange but unfortunatly they have forced it on the phone so if you don't have the service from orange it's totaly pointless and gets in the way, the unique manager is why i flashed the phone, I could cope with other things they have done but that was a step too far.
cheers
Tom
The "service" you refer to is Unique phone...it's a way of using your Orange phone over a broadband connection if you have bad coverage at home. I use it as I can't get any mobile signal where I live...from any network! The person I spoke to at Orange said there would be a fix coming soon to make the WIFI better on the Touch 3G. Hope this clears things up.
I was speaking to Orange Technical Support and they told me that there was nothing that could be done to change this and this was a feature of the phone. Was there any news about when this update will be available?
Sorry, no idea on when the fix will be availble. My one works fine, I was just having some other issues and I mentioned this problem and was told that one would be coming soon.
I think you problem can be only resolved with a new rom version..
And i don't think that Orange release a new one within the nearest time only to solve this "bug".. my guess...
If I where in your place i would flash it with the official htc rom.

unique blows big time
There is a way to access the power settings on the Orange branded Touch 3G:
1) Using File Explorer, navigate to the Windows directory on the device.
2) Look for a file called WLANSettings which is 73.4k in size.
3) Run the file and click the Power Mode tab.
4) Adjust the slider for better performance and click OK to exit.
I only discovered this today and am still testing to see if it makes my wi-fi connection more reliable. The "searching for networks" screen has a tendency to hang and I'm hoping this will improve things.
I'm holding onto the hope, however, that Orange will address this in an update and give us the stock HTC wi-fi options back.
Thanks!!!!
That is just what I was looking for! I have tried it and will see what effect that has.
Hi all,
I recently got hold of a Touch 3G for a friend, and he is having a few issues with the Unique / UMA connectivity (surprise).
My question, do any of the other Touch 3G ROMS out there (like the vanilla HTC one) have the UMA / Unique feature? or would we lose that function with a reflash?
Anyone out there done such a thing, there seems to be little info about UMA / Unique anywhere, I am surprised.
Thanks in advance,
Mark
there is little info on the unique stuff because it's fairly pointless and not very well done by orange.
I reflashed mine to a custom rom to get rid of all the orange customizations like that
Unique seemed a little pointless to me. I flashed to a normal HTC WWE ROM and was done with it. Obviously I still have wifi etc, and really, unique seemed pointless. In order to get the phone and not pay a fortune for it, you needed to get an expensive contract with lots of minutes anyway so you might as well use them.
Thanks for the responses
... but the reason for using Unique is NO cellphone signal at home, or in fact for a large region of the local area (you would not think we lived in the South East of England would you.)
So I take it that there is no UMA functionality in any of the better alternative ROMs for the Touch 3G/Jade, pity.
I know that there are a number of other threads on the subject, but any other thoughts on how to get the best out of it rather than abandon it altogether???
Cheers
MS
I would imagine that the unique part is just a few apps, I don't see a reason why one of the developers couldn't pull it out for you. and then you would just install the app on a cutom rom.
I don't know if this would work but i see no reason why it shouldn't it's just a matter of getting the right apps, in fact you could do it yourself.
if you look at the kitchen i think it tells you have to download you current rom and extract it, then find the right apps and try to install a custom rom and then install the apps.
it might work and you could alwasy go back if it doesn't.
I think i would keep the unique stuff on the phone if it wasn't for that fact that it makes the wifi so hard to use.
UMA on T-Mobile
Anyone figured out how to do UMA on T-Mobile?
Hi All
I need some help with my HD2.
Today I upgraded from stock rom to latest as version as on HTC website
I can't recall old version, anyway I am having an issue with this radio version which is 2.07.51.22_2
My exchange activesync keeps disconnecting, so my emails are arriving 3-4 minutes later.
I guess my question is?
Can i go back to older radio version without flashing, or worse case scenario could i downgrade to older rom?
I need some help guys.
Thanks
I am downloading now... Will try when down.
I cannot help you there, but have you tried sending a SMS? did you get a stupid notification of message being sent? I am trying to figure out a way to deactive.... No luck yet, waiting for HTC response
As for the Data sync I have had no issue as yet. I have found it a tad more reliable than 1.49. But I have only done a whole 2 hrs of testing

What a pain, so yours work ok, do you use activesync with an exchange server?
That's where my problem is.
It disconnects every few minutes, which obviouslyconsumes more battery power.
As for the sms sent notification I dont mid it.
I may downgrade to original rom, is it safe?
Thanks

Sorry I should have clarified. I link mine with my Exchange 2010 Server. I am getting emails as wanted.
That said I still can't sync SMS. Which is soemthing HTC is looking at and I haven't heard back in a while. I should email them to chase them up.
Hmm, I may try a hard reset tomorrow then.
Thanks

Hi there, having exactly the same issue, did you find a solution to this other than changing out the ROM? Greatly appreciate your posts.
Telstra ROMS on HD2 are stuffed!
I've heard from a mate who works in Telstra ROM development that the HD2 images are not fully tested.. and therefore go to market with communications flaws.. eg every time you try and sync your mail or use as a shared internet device it struggles as the radio version is substandard to the rest of the Image.
Do yourselves a favour.. HSPL it... Find one of the wonderful roms that the guys/gals on here do.. and you will love using the hardware you have purchased. The HD2 is so powerful and should not be ruined by Telstra's lame attempt at a ROM.
Seems they have put way more effort into the Android ( desire ) but its still no HD2.

Yep fixed it, apologies forgot to post solution for my issue.
After trying reflashing with new ROM, downgrading to old ROM and still having same issue, that's right after downgrading...
It clicked, see I bought device and started using activesync after about 2 months.
Before that, I had an issue with my 3G internet connection not working at all.
Weather updates, internet access, hotmail emails etc.
To fix that other issue I had to create a new internet connection.
By the time I got to use activesync I had a new internet connection, I was not using stock telstra connection.
Therefore to fix on new ROM version I created a new connection, and magically started working up to now with no issues.
And it is true telstra are bloody hopeless at testing pre-releasing ROMs.
If you need more information let me know.
Thanks
Would greatly appreciate any help in two areas:
- firstly my HD2 internet stuff is nor working at present. Clicking many of the BigPond links just brings up IE with wap.telstra.com/wap?..... and ends up just sitting there until timeout. Can you post details for setting up new internet connection that fixed this.
- which ROM did you go to. Hw did you load this. I cannot get my HD2 to connetc to Win7 x64 WMDC. Can't even see any mention of the device in the device mgr, though it did say it saw it at ones stage. Reading numerous posts - seems to be a lot of people having issues in this space..

Ok.. have to say, the wap.telstra addresses are all old and many are discontinued. All those apps are simply web shortcuts that should point to a m.bigpond address.
Firstly.. you need to do a few things..
1) You will need to HSPL your phone- ( like flashing a bios ) I just used the hspl.zip.. Instructions are easy and straight forward, make sure you follow them perfectly.
2) Flash your radio to something better i did the 2.10 ( Again.. instructions need to be followed.)
3) I then had a look and found a rom on the forum ( energy GTX ) which seems to have all i want and is fast.. after you flash it.. reboot it.. and it will autoconfigure to the Telstra network.. and BINGO.. FAST Phone!!

Hey there, thanks for this. With the new 1.72 ROM the Telstra inbuild connection set ups seem to work, can browse internet and activesync will connect when I prompt it OK (with 1.49 I had to setup a new connection with Phone line (GPRS) and telstra.wap manually (via the Telstra tech's)). I have two HD2's one running 1.49 (with this manual config) and the other 1.72 with inbuilt Telstra config's - the delay problem u described with email arriving 3 or 4mins later is still happening on 1.72 despite it appearing to connect fine, almost like the message from the exchange server is being ignored. Watching Activesync on the 1.72 when I know there is new email and there is this odd sequence, seems to check and recheck emails 2 or 3 times when just one new email has arrived but doesn't seem to pick up the trigger from the Exchange Server that new email has arrived? Does this delay still happen for you, what connection configuration did you select? Thanks v.much.
I want to know what are the real benefits or improvements on upgrading the ROM on Telstra branded HD2? Because I bought an new, unlocked HD2 from a clearance shop in Melbourne and had been into it for just 2 days. Bening a long time WM user, I got used to it and it really seems to work without any problems at the moment, so does the new ROM brings some dramatic improvements, new and fanastic functions or what? I am not after cosmetic things at all, need to know real benefits comared to old ROM.

Thanks, almost sold on this path at this point given the headaches, was reluctant to head down this HSPL path, is there a good reference for setting up a custom ROM specifically for Telstra's network?
Activesync usually never works with the standard Telstra connection in the HD2 Telstra ROM.
As far as im aware, it is set up to go through a Telstra proxy server, which doesn't allow the Activesync traffic.
You must set up your own stock standard connection to telstra.internet APN. Which bypasses the proxy that they have on their preloaded connection. You will however not be able to use the Telstra internet shortcuts to My Account, BigPond etc, as they require authentication with their proxy server.
So as far as I have found, with the stock Telstra HD2 ROM its a case of either one or the other: your activesync working, or your Telstra links working.

I'd like a response to this too as I'm looking at HD2 Android and need a radio upgrade from for it to run, but don't want to lose Telstra Rural coverage. The HD2 is a great device, but few Winmo6.5 app developments compared to Android or iphone.
so as it comes to be, my friend former iphone 3g owner decided to pick up the htc hd2 from tmobile, all went well with it for the first couple days, but now shes constantly complaining about email connectivity issues, and her email will randomly dissapear and not be able to connect and slow lagginess on the phone causes her to throw temper tantrums . also for some reason her music is not showing up correctly... on top of that shes using att on the hd2 unlocked , all the settings have been configured but the rom is still on the stock tmobile rom.. so my question to you guys is what would be her best bet at a rom which is extremely user friendly and doesnt have too many options (so basically something like the tmobile rom without the tmobile bloatware and settings on it) something liek a stock hd2 rom , but i know i cant put that because of the radio issues... if anyone can help id greatly appreciate it because i know the true capabilities of this phone and unfortunatly im flashing a ne rom every day, she wants something she can use daily , stable , fast and super user friendly
Try flashing Kumar's rom its the closest feel to the stock rom that I have found. What type of email is she using? I use active sync with gmail and I found that it works the best because its a push email setup. Also you have to remember that since she is on at&t she will not get the 3g speeds so data is going to be slow.
well the data speed is ok and she uses yahoo, but just randomly her emails will get erased or shell get synchronization errors, even though her internet works.. its truly something that confuses the living hell out of me , and which kumar are we talking about what flavor ?

I run Kumar premium and its the best to my liking. First thing she needs to do is get rid of yahoo mail, its crap. With my clients that have yahoo have nothing but problems, everyone else is fine. Tell her to get gmail works great and is super easy to set up.
try telling a female to change her ways and tell me how that goes hahahha
I have the same setup. I have an unlocked TMOUS HD2 that I'm using on AT&T's carrier network. I didn't like the stock rom as it had tons of useless apps I would never use. So I HPSL'ed it and flashed it with Kumar's Lite 1.9 WWE rom. Try that and see if she likes that. Also let her know that some of the stalling and other issues could be because of the faulty/laggy MicroSD card. If she still experiences issues, have her take out her sd card for a while to see if she still experiences it. If she doesn't then she's got a bad card. Some people do, some people don't. The only problem with the lite rom is it is exactly that...Lite! So if she wants swype she will have to install that seperately. Same for Cookie tabs and other things.
Kumar's ROM is definitely the best that I've used so far. Also, see what radio she's running and possibly try flashing to a different one to see if that makes a difference.
I purchased this phone on Ebay and didnt realise at the time that it came pre loaded with Telstra software which prevents me form accessing the net etc. I am with "3" and would prefer to keep the phone - can anyone help solve this issue?
your quick fix would be to Flash a new Rom
Thanks for that. Next question - is how do I do that, where do I go, do I need to do via computer/net or phone/net - never done anything like it. Cheers

This is all about getting a phone for my sister who has vey poor reception at her farm in the country but where my HD2 works great. None of her three children who all have different types of phones gets as good as reception has the HD2. She wants to buy a phone doesn't want to get it home and find the reception is poor and having wasted her money. I could sell her mine (as I quite like the look of the Desire) and try to tweek it - or she could get one of her own from ebay (item 300447152858) which has already been done. Question then is, will it have the same reception - what part of the phone tells me that sort of info.

the very first thing that you're gonna have to do is flash an older Telstra ROM after you HSPL it. then you can flash whatever ROM you want. i speak from experience. good luck!
no no no... The Telstra phone doesn't prevent you from connecting to the net, it simply doesn't have the settings to connect to 3...
Ring 3 and get all the settings and create a new connection on your HD2...

Advise, actually flashing HSPL & then custom rom. It all takes a bit of time reading & understanding how it all works but trust me its the best thing to do.
I had probs getting my 3 sim working properly but eversince I started using custom roms, on 1st boot the device picks up the 3 settings automatically & runs perfect

As far as reception goes, your best bet is to stick to telstra. Or 3 as a second option, which runs on the telstra network when roaming.

that's actually more because the cooked roms generally contain the.global connectionsetup program that includes settings for most carriers than the rom itself. you can find it as a cab, which should work on the stock Telstra rom.
