Hello,
Just a poll to know, while driving and using GPS navigation software do you use your HD2(and other 2-way capable devices) in landscape or portrait position?
I'm using Landscape but my screen keeps turning off automatically after a while running the GPS with iGO8.
Anyway to disable this auto shutoff while GPS is running?
Landscape, as Navigon Mobile only displays the advanced route information in Landscape mode (pictures of exits).
I'm using landscape mode with CoPilot Live. Works beautifully!

I want to know where I am going, not what is around!!!!

somewhere in the settings choose any other option besides DEVICE SETTINGS
this applies also for screen orientation
FLAME ON!!!
I can't wait till the flaming starts over this. It'll be great sitting back and watching people slating each other over the orientation of their device. I wonder how iPhones will be brought into this discussion though?

By merely mentioning them perhaps?
landscape with TomTom 7 here, works fine
Well, I use iGO8 in portrait and 3D view because you can see the road a bit further ahead. I think I should get used to landscape
Portrait!
This is one of the most odd phenomenons in the world: why do manufaturers make gps in landscape mode?? It is only topped by one oddity: why does the customers accept a nobrainer as landscape mode for gps navigation?
You are moving forward and is probably more interested in what lies ahead then what happens a kilometer to each side? It is an artisfact of the all-ruling marketing "logic". It looks hip resembling a cinema movie ... so it must be right says the marketing "logic".
My first gps unit only had forced landscape and it showed a broad info band at the bottom and a broad info band at the top, leaving only 60% of the already small forward area for the actual purpose of showing the road. Jesus Christ, how dumb can it get!!?!
I must quote John Cleese: "marketing people! <spitting noise>"
I have an HTC Desire and is thrilled about Google Maps in portrait mode. I am checking out the Garmin 3790 with natural portrait mode!

Hi All,
Are there any cameras around that will allow you to zoom. It does not look like the stock one has that ability. Same thing for video.
Also, anyone have a good way to clean this damn screen? Its a real fingerprint magnet! LOL

Hey mobi, I think it's something that just has to be switched on, because on my stock ROM I have zoom on both the camera and the video camera. It's not great, but it's there, it appears when you hit the little slider icon right under the shutter button.
It's possible that I have it available (where you don't) because I've activated all the "extra" camera and video modes with BsB Tweaks, and I guess the zoom is apparently one of them. I thought it was there all along, but if you don't see it on your stock ROM, then that's probably how you can turn it on
Thanks for the info. I do have it I guess I just needed to look harder. Seems like there are a lot of hidden things on here.
I was looking through the manual on the HTC site the other day and even some of the settings that they were talking about were not on there.
An example would be the conference call feature, the landscape mode (which I've somewhat fixed with the landscape cab except even in landscape I have to flick up and down and not left to right on images, etc) and a few others.
Oh well, it’s a learning experience. Just wish they'd enable everything and let us decide what to leave on or turn off.

I think there's a lot of people here who would agree with that sentiment
However, there's probably exactly the same number of people here who would say, "Just wish they would disable everything and let us decide what to turn on or leave off" LOL

Guys, the new google maps 5 is out. Seems like it has some really nice new features. Head onto marketplace and update.
The write up is on pocketnow.
http://pocketnow.com/android/google-maps-5-for-android-with-3d-vectoring-now-available
Can someone post .apk, please? Google updates not available in Market in some countries.
http : //is.gd/iRddp
Thanks so much for the .apk! Cheers man!
The 3D feature doesn't work for me on JDMS 1.6.2 build unfortunately.
Anyone get that to work? on which android build?
edit: Nevermind it works, my area was just too flat?!!
i couldn't make it work on my phone (see config below) either
Anyone get the map rotation to work using gestures? Only way I can make the map rotate is by using compass mode, but that requires me to be at the location I want to rotate the map around.
couldnt find the .apk file anywhere? neither in the market is the app??? where can i grab that??

Placing two fingers on the screen and moving them laterally in opposing directions worked for me.

which android build do you have? as others said i can't do that :\
thanx man you are best
Mine works great on the EVO Black & Blue Remix ROM, but London 3D has not been enabled yet
You make it 3D by putting two fingers on the screen and dragging down and I can make it rotate by putting my index finger and my thumb on the screen and rotating them in a circle. As dumb as this sounds, you really do have to practice a bit to get it to work. I'm using
EVO Carbon Remix V0.5 by motoman234
Thanks for the link.
1. Gestures work fine
2. I don't see any 3d landscape though
Are there any settings where you can activate 3D buildings and compass mode?
Update: Map stays stationary and only the blue arrow rotates.
Update 2: 3D buildings work only in some major cities around the world (i have found Chicago, Berlin untill now) and only if your zoom is at 100m/200ft and you must have all layers (terrain - sattelite) turn off.
Samsung Galaxy S - Froyo
I cant spin motion the map! I tried every means possible
I think the map rotate is limited to roms that are designed for phones that support distinct multitouch. I am using the hd2one which is built for the nexus one which doesn't have distinct multitouch... does anyone know how we can trick Google maps into performing the rotate function without flashing a different rom?

You can use this file, copy it to your hd2one/root/system/etc/permissions then reboot. I copied it from the desire_hd2 build and it works.

Direct Link for those looking for the file buzz killington was talking about. Google Maps 5.0 now works as advertised! Hope this helps some others out there wanting to get the rotate gesture working.

Is there anyway to enable 360 rotation for all apps? Some apps do it, others dont.
The OS itself allows this, but Google Earth for example doesn't.
Can we enable this somehow? Its a bit of a pain since the Asus Case allows you to place it in an upside down orientation so its easy to type, but half the apps don't work in this rotation...

I'd also like to see this happen. For example, i hate the fact that the market will not rotate.

+1 here too....
i hate how some apps will force themselves into portrait mode. The Engadget app for example. Main page is Portrait.......the article is landscape.
I wonder if this is a case of repacking the apk's or if we can force the system into making the apps think that portrait is actually landscape?

If we do that then we will get an annoying 4:3 ratio pic......
Hi,
when I use the camera on the rear of the xoom in apps (wordshot, barcoo, wikitude) the picture is always turned by 90 degrees. Has anyone seen the same problem? Or maybe a solution for this?
Zusan
Is there really noone, who has the same problem? Or maybe any hint to solve this issue?
are you using the xoom in landscape mode when you do this? perhaps those apps code the camera to orient when the xoom is in portrait mode. just a guess.
you should also contact the dev to get it direct from the horses mouth so to speak.
Thank you for your reply. Because I had the same idea I started the app holding the xoom landscape and after that didnt work, I held the xoom in portrait while starting. Or is there another way to set the orientation?
A second thought was that there may be something wrong with the sensors of my xoom, because I have also strange behaviour in some apps:
- In "google sky map" turning the xoom from portrait to landscape without changing the position of the xoom, suddenly makes the north to the west.
- Wikitude doesnt show any icons for the places in the camera-mode anymore, which it did since a while ago. Maybe thats because of the newest version or maybe there is something wrong with the sensors so that wikitude cant place the icons correctly!?!
Just a guess, but I have no idea how to prove this.
DBL post...
Hi
I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread with found bugs in the 2.3.3 software for the X10. Please report other bugs here.
Audio Stutter
Missed calls on lock screen (But there is no missed calls, something else triggers this message

Camera menu doesn't rotate in portrait
Anyone more than me with f**ked-up calls? You can't hear the other parts. Just some strange noisenoise. Happened yesterday, and today.
The camera works only in landscape mode.

Your camera does not work in Portrait mode?
Or you mean the menu does not rotate?
In my X10, camera DOES work in Portrait mode...
Even Upside down, it will work...
But the menu stay in Landscape mode only...
Why not just say the menu does not rotate...
Instead of saying camera does not work?
Is your camera stop taking picture in Portrait mode?
It might be a feature and not a bug...
bugs for me:
- unable to open any https webpage in any of the browsers (dolphin,stock,opera...)
- when going to m.facebook.com and clicking any external link it does not work, tried all the browsers
These 2 features used to work perfectly on 2.1
Yes, you are right. The menu of the camera is not rotating from landscape to potrait. for me it feels like a bug.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I don't have any issue accept RAM. Although it's low but the phone run smooth.
there's a similar thread here fyi
Ok, the camera menu seems like a bug.
continuing in that thread then. Thanks
I personally think this is a better thread with the bugs in the first post. I'll read the other One though. Not all issues in the other thread are bugs...
- ugly looking UI & apps,
- one way camera UI,
- music app much behind from Mediascape (o.k., equalizer, but the rest is crap)
- calendar like from stone age, useless
- not any connection between UI of stock apps, like they were doing a car from different company spare parts
- ...
I'm still on 2.1.B.0.1, rooted and JIT.
Regards, Zagor
Im closing this cause there is already a 2.3.3 issues thread
