booting into safe mode - Nexus One General

I tried following these instructions, but still haven't succeeded
1. Power the device off. Take the battery out if it won’t turn off normally.
2. Power the device on.
3. When the logo appears, press and hold the Menu button.
4. Continue holding the Menu button until you see the home screen.
The words Safe Mode should appear in the lower left corner if you performed the steps correctly.
The menu button is the 2nd one from the left?

Touch HD Hard Reset

The proscribed method of pressing both up and down volume bar (while PDA is off) and then briefly pressing the power button doesn't produce the desired result.
Is there a programatical way of achieving this, please?
TIA
John
Try this, it may work:
Touch HD Clear Storage
You can also use Clear Storage to reset your device back to factory default settings.
1. On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap All Settings.
2. On the System tab, tap Clear Storage.
3. Enter “1234” and then tap Yes.
I would check the buttons work then. I have used this method and it does work. Turn the phone off, long press on the power, yes to turn off. Then hold both volume buttons down, press the power button (keeping the volume buttons pressed).
When the boot screen appears you can let go of the volume butons.
Or use the clear settings above ;-)

I think the trick is to BRIEFLY press
the power button while keeping both
up and down volume buttons pressed.

Huh? Not even close.. If the OP wants to flash an update.zip, he needs to...
1. With device held horizantally, power button on top left, turn OFF the device.
2. Hold down the Volume - button (left side of the volume rocker)
3. Hold down the power button.
4. KEEP BOTH HELD DOWN until you see the Recovery text in the top left corner. This appears a second or so AFTER the Acer logo does.
5. Do not let go too soon or you won't enter recovery mode.

Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue. Safe Mode should always be performed prior to a hard (factory) reset.

Phone won't boot up (D801)

My phone's battery died so i plugged it in and when i did, the bootlogo appeared for around 5 seconds then disappeared. This repeated for hours. I tried pressing Power+down for 10 seconds and this resulted in the screen turning off and the led flashing red. I tried again and this resulted in the bootlogo issue. After several hours of charging, results are no different. Phone is completely unresponsive when not plugged in. Please help.
UPDATE: Managed to boot into recovery and reflashed my rom (SOKP D801), but no change. Is this rom broken and will a different rom fix the issue? Also, i can't seem to enter recovery again. (Note: rom is discontinued by developer and website is gone.)
UPDATE 2: Phone randomly started working again for no apparent reason. To avoid the original issue, should I switch roms?
did you tried hard reset?...
If your phone is on, turn it off.
Press and hold the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons, and then press and hold the Power button at the same time until the phone turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "Recovery mode."
Press the Power button to start Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command."
While holding the Power button, tap the Volume Up button once.
Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press the Power button to select it.
Note: If your phone becomes unresponsive at any point during these steps, you can restart it by holding down the Power button for several seconds.
The button combination resulted in a hardware control menu, not recovery

[GUIDE] Boot Key Combinations A501

There is a lot of info about key combinations for boot modes, but all of them are either incomplete, wrong or do not clearly state which button is VolumeUp and which VolumeDown. I want to clarify this in a small thread.
Put the tablet in front of you, so the power button is top left. Now we've got the following modes:
Factory Reset - Hold power and right volume button - works?
Update from sd/update.zip - Hold power and left volume button - works
Recovery - Hold power and left volume button - ???
APX - Attach to PC and hold power and reset button - works, display stays off?
Some people state that it is important how to set the the screen lock switch. Is that true?
Could someone please add the info which of the volume buttons increases and decreases volume?
I am not sure about the recovery mode. Does it replace the update mode if TWRP or CWM is installed?
