The proscribed method of pressing both up and down volume bar (while PDA is off) and then briefly pressing the power button doesn't produce the desired result.
Is there a programatical way of achieving this, please?
TIA
John
Try this, it may work:
Touch HD Clear Storage
You can also use Clear Storage to reset your device back to factory default settings.
1. On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap All Settings.
2. On the System tab, tap Clear Storage.
3. Enter “1234” and then tap Yes.
I would check the buttons work then. I have used this method and it does work. Turn the phone off, long press on the power, yes to turn off. Then hold both volume buttons down, press the power button (keeping the volume buttons pressed).
When the boot screen appears you can let go of the volume butons.
Or use the clear settings above ;-)

A couple of quick questions for people who have actually got the phone:
1) Is there an easy way to turn the backlight/screen on/off (to save battery) at the press of a button as you can on most other touchscreen phones?
2) How easy/quick is it to lock/unlock the phone?
3) Approx how many seconds is it from when you press the power button to when the phone is fully loaded and ready to be used?
Thanks in advance!

1. Briefly press the Power Button.
2. To Unlock ~ Swipe your finger across the screen.
3. Depends:
Are you talking of from Powering On or from switching the screen back on?
If from Powering On:-
It really depends on how many Apps/Drivers installed but mine takes around 25 seconds from a long press on the Power button to fully loaded.
If from just switching on the screen:-
Instantly.... and can be switched on either with a brief press on the Power button or the Home key at the bottom of the screen.
Thanks for the reply!
I presume the power button is on the very top edge of the phone?
So would I be correct in saying that a brief press on the power button actually turns the display off (effectively locking the phone from the point of view of accidentally pressing something on screen if it's in your pocket for example) ?
But if the home button turns the screen back on in the same way as the power button, wouldn't THAT be prone to accidentally activating the phone when you don't want it to?
I've always found it much quicker to simply turn off the display instead of actually locking it.

The power button is on the side of the phone, on the right side.
If you press the power button on Android it will lock and shut off the screen yes.
and you press the home button on any android device it usually activated the screen and then you have to swipe to unlock.
Thanks...I was getting confused.
So when you briefly press the power button, it actually "locks" the phone and turns off the display and needs to be "unlocked" with another press of this button & a finger swipe.
Is this hard coded or can you stop the "home" button from also trying to lock/unlock the device, i.e. can I simply use the power button to lock/unlock and the home button doesn't do anything in this state??

It is hard coded.
However, to switch the phone on using the Home button does require a significant press and it is recessed.
Very quick to unlock the phone, whether you use the swipe to unlock or the Android 'join the dots' security. I actually prefer this as you have a decent sized clock on the screen.
I presume the Simcard PIN request on device startup works the same as it does on Windows Mobile devices?

try warranty replacement.....
There is a lot of info about key combinations for boot modes, but all of them are either incomplete, wrong or do not clearly state which button is VolumeUp and which VolumeDown. I want to clarify this in a small thread.
Put the tablet in front of you, so the power button is top left. Now we've got the following modes:
Factory Reset - Hold power and right volume button - works?
Update from sd/update.zip - Hold power and left volume button - works
Recovery - Hold power and left volume button - ???
APX - Attach to PC and hold power and reset button - works, display stays off?
Some people state that it is important how to set the the screen lock switch. Is that true?
Could someone please add the info which of the volume buttons increases and decreases volume?
I am not sure about the recovery mode. Does it replace the update mode if TWRP or CWM is installed?
