automated installs

Hi All,
I need some help with CAb files and such.
I'm working on a "self healing" solution for some customers of ours, so that if their device runs out of battery power, when charged, it will rebuild itself and reconfigure itself, so there is minimal user intervention.
What we do is put all our CAB files in the EXROM, and that's how we get it done.
I have an issue with our encryption software in that it's install CAB can't be run from the EXROM, it needs to be run from the root of the device. But it also has to be paired with a license file.
So what I need to do is build a CAB file, that encompasses the Pointsec install CAB and the license file, that copies itself to the root of the device upon running my CAB and runs them from there.
how do I get these files to execute once i've told them to be copied to the root?
I though i'd also put a shortcut to the install CAB in the \windows\startup folder
but once the install CAB is run, the shortcut remains, and therefore upno soft-reset it throws up errors that the file no longer exists

bear in mind, i'm new to this, so it may be incorrect.

Is there a registry entry, like in win2k/XP where I can get this to "runonce" or anything like that ?

you should put the cab in the ExtROM, and then.
In config.txt:
add lines to copy the cab to the root
add a line to run the cab from the root

I wasn't aware of the EXEC command for the config.txt.
that will save me from having to build a CAb file to do this !
for future reference though, is there an execute command you can put into a .inf for theCAB file?
or is that where the setup.dll comes into play ?

yup, thats the allmighty setup.dll.
problem is with that: If you havent build it, you dont know what it does . . .

Change Installation Directory

Hi,
i want to install the programs to a directory on the mmc card.
But if i do so, it installs in the root.
Now, thats not looking nice, and its hard to find anything there then.
I want create a directory for games and programms on the card.
How can i do that?
I can only choose between, Memory Card, Storage and Main Memory.
And that sucks!

Maybe u can user WinCE CAB Manager and edit the *.cab installation directory to any directory u prefer.

You can use the freeware CabInstall and install program directly from the SD.

Yes, but on the on hand this would be a lot of work, changing every single files directory in the cab and on the other hand it wouldn´t work out with Progs, that have an exe intallation, like the game AoE.
Thos Progs, first install on the PC and then on the PPC, and there are no editable CABs at all.
I thougt about changing the installation interface inactive sync , but i´m not a coder.
But maybe, there is somebody out there, who had the same idea like me and realised it already.

The Best solution ever: have a look at the attached files, open the TXT file first (the instructions)
You will not need any additional Software (except e Regestry editor like PHM Regedit), just follow the instructions and use the attached files.
Workes great I am having this now for 4 months!

if you install the programmes to the SD/MMC card, and they make their own folder, put the SD/MM card into a card reader on the pc and select the entire folder as hidden. this means that the programme still works, but does not show up when you explore the card. this does not work if u are using your phone as a card reader.

Sorry DerliebeWolf, The BEST solution is the follow (Tested on WM2003Se):
- Download a registry editor 4 Ur PPC
- Open AskDir_ON.reg with the program
- Reset your PPC
manually:
- Go to \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Application Installer\fAskDest
- Change DWORD value (dec) from 0 to 1
- Reset your PPC
If you install a cab file or an exe file from the pc (that copy the cab into your ppc and then execute it), Windows Mobile will ask you in wich folder you want to install the sw.
Note that you can have problems with some applications (because they're not installed in their own directory)

Cabinstaller is the best and easy software i could recommend for this. Run the cab installer software once and set it to run for all installations, the whenever u try to install a cab file, it will prompt you for the path of installation. It also has an option to disable deleting of cab file after installation. Do you want anything more than this? and to the max, it is free ware! Its easy to get, if you can't find,I have it in my site' software section. www.cartystudios.com

oh yes, i've forget that cabinstall associes .cab files to it (and then, when you execute an exe from the pc, in the ppc will be opened always with cabinstall in auto)

True VGA

hi,
i have installed (partially) the true VGA option on my universal according to tips given in the hack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41968 but i am having some problems.
the instruction states :
1 copy the files in windows folders files to windows dir of mobile
2 copy and run sdkcerts.cab to mobile
3 run ozvga and press ozvga button
4 copy files in vga system folders to windows dir for updated vga system files
5 copy and run vjbigphone091 , vjbigphonebuttons , vjbigphonebackdrop
6 soft reset and vga mode activated
now what i have noticed :
1 done
2 done
3 done
4 here is the problem..when i try to copy these files using ActivSync i am getting error messgae that i cannot copy file cos they are not read-only files, even if i change them to read-only files i am still unable to copy them, acces denied while copying.

after doing 5 of 6 steeps i am running my universal in VGA mode but why cannt i copy these file and are they really needed ?
in addition i can say that VGA seems not to suprt wisbar and some other program , is there any list of compatible software.
can i change the size of icon and task bar and other stuff while running VGa mode. where can i find some more info about VGA ??
i am using mda pro with not the lates ROM ( just bought my mda )
any help and ideas are appreaciated !

Use Resco File Explorer to copy the protected files, as though it still recognises they are 'system' files the program does overwrite them with the ones you need.
This has been covered elsewhere on the forums.

is there any other way to "activate" true vga on universal ?

Don't use the VGA files from Ozvga, there are files on the XDA developers ftp site (I think they are in an archive called VGA_AKU2.zip). This has the sdkcerts.cab file and a folder called windows. I have the contents of this archive and ozvga sotred on my SD card and whenever I hard reset or upgrade the ROM I run sdkcerts.cab and use total commander on the phone (I suppose resco would do the same job if you have it installed) to copy the windows folder to the root filesystem of the phone, it will complain that there is a folder called windows there already but just hit OK to copy over it, it won't replace any critical files. You can run ozvga from the SD card but I tend to copy it into main sotrage so that if I swap cards its always available.

OR better yet, search the darn forum before you do ANYTHING to your Universal. Not like I haven't posted the same thing over and over.

Themes Problems

1)i need some 1 to guide me,how to install the Window vista Themes?
i got the TouchFlor3d vista.cab,i installed in my internal storage,when i reboot my ppc-HTC diamond touch,it nothings come out with the Vista image,is stil same as usual = =,weird.
2)i downloaded automaticwall papper,but it not look like installer *.cab file,i have no idea how to use it,any 1 can guide me?the file name is *.mscr & some *.jpg files.

help with leo's flight simulator

i saw this game for windows mobile and have been wanting to play it, but the exe programe just wont evan load on my rhodium. is there anyway to get it to work or not?

It's a Win32 installer. Just install it to any desktop, plug your device in and let ActiveSync/WMDC connect, and open the program called Leo's Flight Simulator. It'll install the cab file, and you'll be good to go.
Alternatively, you can grab the .cab file from C:\Program Files\Leo's Flight Simulator\DIAMOND and drop it on your SD card, and open it with file explorer mobile.

i couldnt get the cab file. can anyone get it for me please??

Uncompressed with uniextract ( love this software for .cab extraction)
