Hi Moodman and welcome,
First off you sometimes have to be patient to get a response. 2 posts 10 minutes apart will not achieve that.
Now to your question: if you look at this thread, item 70 on the first page, this might solve your problem....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Good luck.
WB

thanks
Dear wacky.banana
Thank you for your helpful response, i am really sorry for my hurry.
but i you can see my post was not a 10 minutes apart since it was
form 10:46 AM to 10:56 PM
but really you help me a lot
still the email account issue, and application for Soccer result details like the one in iphone (My Soccer Pro for iPhone) i could not find it (if there is 1)
the main Q is:
when i am connected to the internet apps like opera or weather, the data connection is working ok, but when i exit the app the connection still working !! then i had to go to setting to shut it down, my Q is : is it cost me money when its still connected ????
I really appreciate the kind support

Moodman,
10:46am to 10:56pm ...I will try not to answer posts late at night in future
Anyway to your question; it all depends on the data plan you have with your service provider. If I were you I would contact them to make sure.
I don't know which part of the world you are from but users in the UK usually get charged based on the amount of data they download. Having the connection on without data passing through is not normally penalised in the UK, as far as I am aware.
Some people prefer to close off their GPRS connection simply to save battery life.
Hope this helps.

Broadband on XdaII..

Hello evryone newbie here i want 2 know if it is possible to connect the xda to the computer to use broadband rather than using my 02 contract? help would be great. Keep instructions simple if possible as i am new to this.
Connect via docking cradle and it connects to broadband byitself.
If you have BLUETOOTH on your pc - it should connect wirelessly ok via this too.
Do you have bluetooth on pc?
i dont have bluetooth on pc but how do i select to use broadband as apposed to selecting just normal gprs.
Thanks for your quick reply

Give over
Hold on a second boy....I did the honorable thing that all newbies should do and i used that little button called "search" in which i searched for all things realted to broadband and xda2. Nothing helped..slightly too complex for a "Newbie". So what was i to do?, had i known it was a crime i wouldnt have posted a straight forward question in which i greatfully recieved a straight forward answer. What however was pointless was your post which is:
1. A pain in the ass.
2. Cocky and not relevant.
3. An indication that you my son have far too much time on your hands to go around hassling newcomers (who YOU once were!!!) who just want a little bit of help with thier brand new xda 2 and dont want to hoke throu thousands of posts in the off chance that i may find it intime for the xdaIII.
Amen
P.S. Whilst searching i found a topic entitled: How to post a message in a forum, without double posting?......check it out :!:
:!:
Nice one matey, there's nothing like slapping down cocky buggers when they need it, and I see from his previous responses that he does! If you can't help, keep it shut! The search option rarely helps, it just brings up too many random finds, it's quicker to 'rely on the kindness of strangers' as the lady said. The bluetooth option works well, when you get the right product, I struggled for months with a bloody belkin card then went mad and blew another £25 on a usb dongle from USBtech.co.uk, worked like a charm right out of the box. Just sync via bluetooth from the options menu on the xda. I can't see much point surfing with the bugger in the cradle though, but I think you just tick 'Allow network and Remote Access Service in Connection Settings in Activesync on the PC, I could be wrong but I'm sure someone will tell me.
Cheers
Re: Give over
Hey, I'm not being cocky. I'm no expert either, but I managed to find out how to do it without asking, so I'm sure you can too.
For starters, how about these three topics for connecting to the Internet through your USB cradle? Took me about 30 seconds to find them.

There are even more topics about Bluetooth connections and Internet access. If you search other websites too you'll find loads of info.

Fair point. Guess that's what comes from posting using the XDA2...
And Bully: Your post offered nothing more useful to d4vel than mine did, except maybe some moral support of my imagined cockiness, so I'd suggest you follow your own advice: if you can't help, keep it shut.
You win cocky-boy xx
Sorted
Now isn't the forum a better place now that we have our fued worked out. . Sublimatica thanks for your help and Bully thanks for your support. Just to let ya's know i have sorted out browsing with the cradle and got bluetooth sync working too.
Cheers all

GBRS for the newbie

Hi
Newbe Question
I have just become the proud owner of a XDA11, the only questions that I have at the moment is:
(1) in the GPRS settings is there any where you can set a default idle time out? as the unit stays online for several mins after closing internet explorer.
(2) Is there any place in the unit where you can see a log of the data sent or transmitted ? to keep a check on the costs.
Thanks again
Paul
Thanks but I have eventually found a old posting that states that you should press & hold the red button for 5 sec's This does work brillient and thanks again.
It is just the data logs that I am missing now.
Even if you stay connected to GPRS it doesn't cost you a penny more as you only get charged for actively sending and recieving data.
Data wise there is a GPRS log somewhere although I can't remember of-hand where and I can't be bothered to go and get my XDA! Think it's under settings. Although if you ask nicely for someone with an XDA 1 there was a program on the cd that came with it that was a free 3rd party data/cost tracker and worked pretty well.

Orange M1000 GPRS time out can it be changed

Hi I have a O2 XDA II and a Orange M1000, the XDA will appear to hold a gprs in sleep state for quite some time, the orange unit drops the gprs connection after 1 min,
This creates problems when trying to access web mail as by the time you have taped out a email and you hit send the connection has been droped, on re-connection the web host sees a new IP and considers it to be a new connection and asks you to sign in again !
Is there any way i can change the time out, or make it behave like the O2XDA2
I should add in both cases i am using a orange sim
First let me say hi and welcome to the forum on xda-developers.com.
Try to always use the search facility here on xda-developers.com first, before making any requests, as this seems to be a well documented problem, depending upon your rom/radio version.
However, I felt compelled to reply, as I have experienced exactly the same problems initially, setting my machine up to check for mails, have MSN Messenger running, and getting MMS to work properly.
I suggest getting GPRS Monitor (I don't really think it is freeware - do a search - else go to handango.com) and GBTweak.
I found GB Tweak very nice, as it allows you to stay 'online' with you GPRS, as well as disconnecting for saving you battery (not that much - but anything seems to help when you are running low on power  ).
You can find the link to the latest version here:

Hope that helps...

T-Mobile MDA

I just wanted to share my experiences with my new phone so far. The T-Mobile MDA (I'm not sure what version it is, it's the only one for sale at T-Mobile right now) is an awesome phone.
Just today I learned how to listen to streaming Sirius satellite radio, and I enjoyed the sounds of dance music by the pool from Windows Media Player on my phone.
The things I hate about this phone are the battery life (it's horrible, especially if I have Bluetooth on all day for my Bluetooth headset or am listening to streaming music), the bad Outlook syncing (I don't know how to set contacts in a group like Personal and ONLY sync Person contacts with my phone), the GPRS connection is bad... I guess when I don't have service it disconnects itself or something, I don't know how to always keep it alive. Also, downloading things from this forum from my phone doesn't work, it downloads the file download.php when it should be downloading the actual file instead.
Are there any solutions to my problems?
How to keep your GPRS alive
1) Go to the following registry entry:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 *****}\Connections\GPRS*****\"
2) Change "Always On" 0 into 1.
Thanks, is there anything wrong with keeping it on all the time?
Any battery saving enhancements or longer lasting batteries?
Battery
I am still looking into that GPRS issue myself.
I am not sure Kenny, but I read that there are two battery versions
for MDA vario. The standard version that is included with your device, and one that is a little bit more expensive, but will give you 50% extra power.
Please do a search on the net.
Tried this... my device will auto disconnect anyway.
JaySea,
Please try again,
It should work.
If it disconnects then something else is blocking it.
And even when it disconnects, it will connect by itself again,
about 2 minutes after disconnecting.

Do a soft reset, then see if it works...
I'm a total n00b with the T-Mo MDA so please excuse the question.
To view the registry entry must you connect to a PC and access from that or is this done in the phone itself?
Thanks.
Viewing the registry...
You can check/edit the registry on your handheld device with (for example) Resco Explorer or Total Commander...
okay, I'm confused. Is this the right version of Total Commander? MDA has an xscale proc, right?
Sjaakman: Thx so much for the tip.
My MDA has excellent battery life, much better than my previous iMate jam.
WiFi drains your battery life quickly. Set your backlight to the 2nd lowest level and make sure it is set to turn off after 1 min - if it's on all the time that takes a lot of power.
Maybe your battery is bad, see if you can get it replaced.
I'm a newbie in this subject on PDA phones, I just acquired the new MDS Vario T-mobile and don't know many of the great features that some of you mentioned here. If there is any way that I can find more information about the usage of the phone, please send me a PM to guide me through in my initiation. Every bit of advise will be much appreciated.

Web Access via Wifi or GPRS/Edge
Hello, I am new to TMobile and the MDA; I have had it for 4 days. For the life of me, no matter what I do I cannot get the phone to access the web. Here is what I have done:
1) At home, my PDA (ipaq 4705) and previous phone (imate Jam mini) both connect to my home wireless acess pont with no trouble. The MDA shows my access point in the Network Cards Settings, but it will not associate with it at all. The battery is fully charged, the mode is set to performance, woreless is on, the acess point shows up in the Settings Wireless status screens, but it will not associate. The access point is a b/g one and it is set to mixed mode.
2) I have set up the GPRS settings exactly as per TMobiles web site with the access point (wap.voicestream.com), the proxy, the 8080 port number etc. When I try to go to a website (any web site), the GPRS/Edge modem successfully connects, but Internet Explorer just indicates 'Locating' and I never see a web site,
I have phone service plus the full internet package at 29.95 per month.
Nothing on the phone makes me think it is broken. For those that may have all this working, is there some magic to it? I'm trying not to call TMobile as the 3 or 4 times I have spoken with them I have not seen very good technical knowledge at all.
I have searched quite a bit but have not seen any mention of these problems. I'm hoping I am doing something wrong. Any experienced TMobile user out there that can give a few suggestions?
Regards,
Bob

[Q] How to stop data connection on HTC maple.

Hi!
I have a HTC maple from Wind mobile, unlocked and running in Bangladesh.
Using WM 6.5 (One of those 3vo custom roms)
So basically the phone uses the GPRS/EDGE data connection, to do god knows what, and in the process uses about 15 megabytes per day.
Now I am using a prepaid Sim, and this phone has bled me dry.
I recharge my account and then I find that I have no balance remaining 11 hours later.
I tried to disable the data connection using Comm manager, with no effect.
I also tried some other data disabling programs, such as NoData and stuff but they dont work properly on the Maple. (It runs but the program freezes on my phone.)
The phone keeps on using the GPRS/EDGE connection even when im using wifi.
The worst part is that my service provider sends out an SMS stating that you need to recharge your phone (if you try to use their services without any balance) and since the phone tries to access the internet like 18 times an hour I get SMS'es all day and night. I cant even sleep properly because of this phone.
I really like this phone, but this thing is driving me crazy.
Can anyone help me?
maybe u should use " Modaco No Data "
u can find in kaskus.us/showthread.php?t=5203789
i hope can help
solved the problem
