Good one, I didn't know that.
Ahh, great. Thanks All.
the only annoying thing is that you have to enter your pin everytime you switch back to phone mode. is that related to winmo?

It's related to the fact you are turning your phone on, and you have your SIM card set to ask for PIN. So simply turn it off if you don't like it.

Because My phone's working fine..?
Hmmm... I think I just found a way to really screw up your phone... let's see what you think of my theory:
1. Put your phone into Airplane mode. This will completly turn off all the radios in the phone.
2. Go into settings and set an unlock pattern.
3. Put your phone into standby mode and turn it back on.
4. If you use up all of your tries at the unlocḱ screen you will have to enter your login details to unlock it. BUT THE PHONE IS STILL IN AIRPLANE MODE. Hence, the phone will not be able to connect to Googles servers for verification. And the worst thing is that not even a shut down of the phone will remove the airplane mode. Not even a removal of the battery.
THe only way to get out of this is to do a hardware reset of the phone.
What do you this of this?

I guess this is the only solution, I did a hardreset.
but this is a very very dangerous bug in the operating system.

at any time you can click and hold the reject call/power off button and it will bring you a list of options one of them is turning off airplane mode
Go on your computer and reset your Gmail password. then try again. It should do the trick.

Damn annoying, but hardly dangerous!
Hey,
I am having problems disabling my Wi-Fi. To be honest this isn't really a problem because my Wi-Fi is faster than mobile data transfers. Having said that though, obviously i would like the option to turn it off.
I havn't changed anything today on my phone so no software changes etc. Just on 'Comm Manager' on the Wi-Fi switch the whole line is light grayed out (and therefore i cant do anything)
Tried the standard turn off/turn on, soft reset, holding power button and terminate data connection, yet it is still grayed out and still on...
Any Ideas?
Sorry if there is already a similar post. I had a quick look and search but couldn't find anything to help. Please point in the right direction if there is.

Go to Settings, Menu, All Settings, Connection, Wi-fi. There's a checkbox there for turning on and off. You may find that doing this re-enables the one on the comm manager, otherwise, you're stuck with doing it that way (for some strange reason).
I'd also recommend the Wifi shortcut on the cab thread in the HD2 themes and apps forum. I have that in my quicklinks so I can quickly toggle the wifi on and off whenever I get home or to work or a friend's house etc..
Cheers bud.
Thats turned it off, but yeh as you suspected it doesn't enable me to do it in comm manager. Do you think you could give me a link to that quick link?

Yes mate - it's in my signature - the cabs link. You want the Touch X reset and wifi cab. It creates shortcuts in your start menu, and you can then add them as quicklinks if you want.
This may well be a stupid question, but is the device connected to PC with a USB cable just now?
hicks:
Nope, not currently... It was earlier though... If that is meant to make it so you cant toggle it, maybe it might be stuck like that from earlier... I will try plugging it back in later and see if this sorts it.
Cheers

They weren't there earlier. I decided that you'd be the last person I'd search for those threads myself for
legend.
Oh and yeh seems it was a minor fault... plugged it back into comp and disconnected again, seems to be sorted in comm manager now.
I've just done a ROM upgrade to 1.66.707.1, and now my Wifi connection kees enabling itself.
I'm sure that I missed something to make it not connect, but what?
Anyone here who might have a clue what it could be?
Thank you.
Hmm that sounds like something I have seen before. I had a similar issue when I had the hd2 12 button action screen installed. Do you have that?

No.. I've not installed that.
I'm also not using Stocks, Weather, Internet time sync and so on, and I thing that if I would, the phone would use the gprs option.
Tomorrow, I'll re check all applications that I'm running to see if I've missed a setting.
Im just curious.
When you disable/enable wifi do you use the comm.manager or another program???

Switch the phone into airplane mode (in the comm manager) and the startup wizard should popup. Just run through that process.

Maybe put it in airplane mode and restart it. It sounds like the issue that some others have had after installing 1.66. It runs the setup wizard in the background, and that automatically starts wifi. My biggest concern if this is the case is that your phone isn't set up to work on the network yet.
Try it anyway and see how you get on.

Okay.. I've put it in "Airplane mode", turned off and back on the phone.
Still not setup wizard.
Did the same thing again and soft reset. Still no setup wizard.
I'm going to give it some more runs, but if no luck I will install an other ROM (custom one), to see if my problem is gone.
I'll report back if I know more.
Thank you for your input.
re: isn't set up to work on the network yet
It is.. All my network connections are working fine.
I think is an issue of Wifi Toggle.
I had the same issue and stopped using it.

I will uninstall Wifi Toggle, and see if this fixed the problem.
If so.. To bad.. I really love Wifi toggle.
i dont have the wifi toggle other than the slider under settings?
and i also have this problem
it only happens when i turn the phone on , once i have turned it off it stays off until the next time i turn it off then on.
Hi everyone, I had a quick question I needed your assistance on.
Sometime I put my N1 into Airplane mode to save battery and when I finally turn airplane mode off I can never seem to get a data connection unless I totally shut off the phone and turn it back on again. Coming out of Airplane mode there will be a 3g signal on the status bar but only the up arrow will light up and anything needing data (browser, market, etc) wont work unless I totally shut off the phone and turn it back on again. Is this happening to you too?
The same thing happens if I open up the Quick Settings app and turn off mobile data (to save battery) and when I turn mobile data back on I have to restart the phone entirely for it to work properly.
It seems like my phone might be having an issue with data connection so I might have to call up HTC about it but I wanted to find out from the other members on the forum if this was happening to them too.
Thank you for your help
It's happened to me before using APNdroid.
Apparently you can fix it by turning the radio on and off in the testing menu (*#*#4636#*#), never tried it though.
Check that:

Whoops, so I did. Good spot!
is it possible to reset the database used for the "Smart mode" Wi-Fi option? When I first got my device I remember after a day or so the Wi-Fi would automatically turn on if I was in the vicinity of my home and my parent's home. Now it won't turn on in either locations, however it will turn on in certain locations "randomly" that do have Wi-Fi... for example today at work it would turn on several times after turning it off and entering certain floors that carried Wi-Fi. There has to be a database of some sort or a way to reset it so the only two locations that matter to me, home and parent's home, get preference to "Smart mode". any suggestions?
Theoretical, haven't tried it, but try this -
Settings / More / Application Manager / All / Sprint Connections Optimizer -
Force stop
Clear cache and data
reboot
thanks for responding, unfortunately I do not see "Sprint Connections Optimizer" even under the All tab in Application Manager. I'm on 4.3 if that makes any difference...
That's Really Odd....

I don't have the Sprint Optimizer as well. I found this thread because the "do you want to use smart mode" (paraphrasing) pops up all the time for me despite the fact that I always have it enabled. It's quite annoying when it pops up in the middle of the night and lights up the entire bedroom. Anyone else suffering from this deluded feature?

anyone know how this smart mode thing works? should I leave wi-fi on all the time and let it do its thing or what? seems like with this option on, wi-fi keeps turning on even when I turn it off.
By any chance, is this setting in WiFi / Advanced what you're looking for?

thanks for this link! never noticed that specific option in the advanced part of the wi-fi settings. wonder how true it is when the article states that leaving this option on saves battery versus firing up the GPS chip. I understand GPS would suck more, but would it do it silently at the app's request even though the app isn't running in the foreground? Anyway, this setting might be intertwined to the Smart mode Wi-Fi option, however Smart mode Wi-Fi is a separate option along with this one you pointed out... which kind of raises more questions!
