My g1 started shutting off randomly. I'm not sure what the problem is. Anyone else have this problem before? Thanks.

BFS and locksreen sleep hangs some times. I installed the same thing this morning and havn't had one yet.
I would say re-partition, wipe all, flash. make sure you back everything you want up. good luck!
I was thinking my battery needs to be calibrated? It's weird it just started happening...
I drain my battery until the phone dies then charge it when it's off. The LED turns green in under an hour. Something has to be wrong here right?
hmm, have you tried a new battery then? and I read you want to drain it to about 20-30% not all the way, this way it lasts longer. But I would say try someone else's battery or buy a new one
have you re partitioned wiped everything and flashed?
I don't want to buy a new battery if I don't need it. Money is tight! I have wiped everything though but haven't re-partitioned.
I let it drain and wiped everything today. Let it charge while off and it hasn't shut off. I'll have to see if the calibration was off or something..

Mine did it to me before and then it just shut off and died.
Mine (actually, an ADP1, not a G1) was doing the same thing. I returned it to the vendor. I wasn't running anything fancy, it did it on both the factory 1.0 build and after I upgraded to 1.6.

I bought this Hero off eBay, and it was dodgy since the begining.
The phone had cyanogen, and was restarting itself occasionally.
So i wiped it, installed 2.1 and it got fixed, but now i have a problem with battery drainage.
Its insance, 10minutes-10% im pretty sure its not supposed to be like that. with or without wifi/3d turned on, its just riddiculous.
I borrowed battery from a friend, and that didint make any change, i installed latest update from the autoupdate in the phone and still its bad. I read somewhere here that its faulty email app that keeps on trying to sync and drains battery, how do i fix that ?
I did a full wipe, cleared cache and everything back to factory settings, with no apps installed it goes from 100% to 0% in an hour.
I downloaded 2.1 from some android forum, as i was unable to find one here (there are only links to 1.5 on the xda.wiki WHY?)
If you can point me to a proper 2.1 (or higher?) software to download that doesnt do this crazy **** i'll be happy as infant on crack.
Please help, here is my software information:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26
Kernel version: 2.6.29-063c4d24
Build number: 3.32.405.2 CL191507release-keys

Try calibrating your battery it gave me a huge boost on my hero... went from getting 16hours day.. to about 30hours on a single charge!!
Every time you flash a new ROM you need to calibrate your battery. The battery meter in the OS (Android in this case) is generated based on the battery stats file.
Battery stats is erased when you flash a new ROM.
Easiest method of battery calibration when you're intending on flashing a ROM:
Ensure battery is fully charged according to the OS. Switch phone off, unplug charger and plug back in. Once light is green, leave charging for another 30 minutes (light goes green at approx 95% charge).
Switch on, flash ROM. Allow first boot to complete.
Shut phone off. Disconnect charger. Remove battery. Replace battery. Place on charge, light green, leave charging another 30 minutes, yadda yadda. Switch phone on, boot immediately to recovery. Wipe battery stats.
Boot phone up. Now would be a good time to install JuicePlotter. Use as normal. Do not charge, let the battery run down completely. When the phone shuts itself off, power it back on. Repeat process until it won't switch on anymore.
Remove the battery. Put the battery back. Turn the phone on. Repeat until it won't turn on anymore.
Now charge the battery on the mains to 100% while the phone is off, keep charging for 30 minutes after light goes green. Power on. Voila, fully calibrated battery.
The last part, run until completely dead and charge only needs to be done once in a while (this is calibrating the battery innards, not the battery stats)

hah, yea thats what i accidentally figured. phone was switching off, but when i powered it back on it had 30%.. and it was like that 3 or 4 times.
I ran it down completely and now am charging it till max, we'll see what happens. at worst i'lkl start your process from the beginning thx !
I diidnt know you had to do that. i've been playing with my G1 and not even once i had to calibrate that.. maybe i should
How'd it go? Any improvement on battery life?
it diidnt help I did what you quoted step by step and its still running down the battery like crazy :/ what else can i do ? im thinking of switching to 1.5 but thats just not progressive and my friends phone is running fine on 2.1, with the same battery even.
Edit: i've installed task killer and killed all the mail checking apps.. hope that is the problem
Edit2: it didint help at all, in 5 minutes i lost 15% fcuking hell !
I just switched to 1.5 and its still happening ! I using a different battery and its just as bad... why is this happening to me
ill try second to latest radio from xda wiki.. im running out of ideas, what else can i do ?
That really wierd... its not the battery if you have tried using different ones. Its not the ROM if u have changed it.
Have you tried disabling auto-updates? and auto-checks for emails. Which email client do you have? you should find the option to "sync-never" in the app settings.
Buying it from ebay is kinda ominous though.. was it described as faulty? perhaps you could contact the seller and request a refund is all else fails?
you can try using setcpu to underclock the cpu.
i have similar situation as you. before going to bed around 11pm, it showed 50% left, turned on airplane mode, then in the morning around 6am, phone was powered off.
now it has been 2 days, still have 20% left.

Did you ever take into consideration that some part of the hardware might be damaged?
Devices that got water damaged, sometimes show weird symptoms as well:
- They still boot up and seem to work well from the first sight
- The battery drains very quickly
- Some of the peripherals are not working stable or not starting up anymore (e.g. wifi, bt, gps)
- Other crazy things might happen as well (e.g. random reboots, backlight flicker, etc.)
So you might have a look at the mainboard. Red stickers indicate water damage!
Regards,
scholbert
Yea but if it were damaged would it show 50% battery after restarting thinking it had reached 5% ? i dont have the tools or will to unscrew it.
i paid 100 pounds fo it, the normal price of a used hero, but the auction said "phone restarts for no reason" and they do not accept returns, so im propably screwed :I
I had an old blackberry 8300 curve, i had it in the bathroom while i was showering, got too moist, turned the detection pads red but phone seemed to work fine after i dried it out. But the battery went to crap progressively in the manner. I would charge to 100%, take it off the charger and maybe an hour it would say less than 10%, do a battery pull and it would go back up to maybe 80% and last maybr another hour and keep doing that till it would normally drain on top od the numerous reboots i would be doing until eventually it would just drain and die.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Can dead pixels cause this ? i have like three.. but then again why would it show 50% after restarting from 5%..
the thing is its not draining the battery, just registering it wrong
Any updates on this? Any resolution?

sorry mate i have tried everything unsuccessfully and returned the phone to the seller.. dont tell me you bought it ? (london)
No, but i have a samsung galaxy tab and experience similar symtoms. It does not bother me too much, the battery life is still great. Just the percentage is off and i need to restart from time to time.
I read similar complaint from droid x forum too.
Hello everyone,
I rooted my phone in early september and put cyanogen 5 on it. I loved the new features but the speed wasn't very good so I switched to biffmod. That's when the problems started to happen. My battery life significantly decreased, I could barely keep it running for 4 hours. When I would open apps like google maps it would turn off instantly, but the phone and text messages worked flawlessly and I loved the speed so I didn't really mind. In the last few weeks it got worse. After a phone call the phone would turn off. I decided to reflash but it stayed the same. Now the phone lasts about 1 minute after unplugging from 100% charge. Anyone knows what could be causing this? or how to fix it?
EDIT : I'm using Biffmod 2.1 with 245 CPU minumum frequency and 556 maximum and DangerSPL.
is this happening on other roms or just biffmod??
Cyanogen 5 was working fine, only hapenned since I switched to Biffmod. (Which is using cyanogen 6)
do a nandroid (plug the phone in for this so it keeps power). then try another rom i say. we can then narrow down whether it is a rom issue or a battery issue. as far as i know no rom should give your battery a lifespan of 1 minute. make sure you have wiped your battery stats too. not sure if this will change anything but you never know.
Looks like a battery wipe fixed the problem. It got past the 1 minute mark! In fact I didn't even know that RA's recovery had that feature. Thanks!
no problem man. i figured it may have been something like that. if the stats dont match then it thinks the battery is low on power when it isnt.
False alarm, it did get better but it shut down after 30min of idle with wifi on.
ok. try a different rom to see if that helps or try draining the battery completely. keep turning your g1 on until it wont turn on any longer. then try charging it from there.
how long have you had the phone by the way?
I got the phone 1 year ago. I'm trying to drain the battery right now. I'll try switching rom after this. Do you have a recomendation? I'm on ebi1 radio.
not sure myself mate. i went for cyanogen, then went to superE as it suited my needs and aint changed since
So my epic is flashed with the frozen 1.1.0 rom with vision kernal and the keyboard type fix.
Yesterday I was playing with over clocking and it locked up. And a few hours later I had problems with force closes. I cleared cache and delvik cache and reloaded all three things again. She seemed to work fine. But when I missed my alarm clock for work it had shut down over night while charging? And After 3 short phone calls and 2 hours it dropped to 75% battery.
She seems to be working fine right now. I'm going to do a full charge and see what my battery looks like.
My big concern is the phone shutting of while charging.
Thanks,
Brandon
similar thing...
Mine spontaneously power cycles while sitting on the desk. Ive never had a missed alarm. But i think there is a buried bug somewhere that FC's google system and/or processes. Ive had to reflash mine and factory reset 3x. But to koNane's defense, it is YOU that chose to flash this! Remember the disclaimer? Sorry dude, don't stress, the ROM's keep getting better. You gotta admit! Its pretty [email protected] fast and clean. Download the app "Desk Clock". Ive never had any issues with it. Ever
I know thats the risk when doing roms. I never said I was blaming anyone.
I was just wondering if there was a known issue with it shutting off at all.
I could have been a fluke thing. I don't know.
I've had my phone shut down on me while charging with ACS SRF 1.1.0 as well. Genocide kernel 1.0. No over clock, no undervolt and minimum step set to 200.
It shuts down when charging. If I'm not charging I get spontaneous reboots every now and then.
I have never had the random reboot while unplugged. Just the 1 random shutoff while charging. So far it's been a great rom.
If you continue to have issues, Odin to full stock, format your SD card, redownload the ROM, re-CWM3, wipe 3x, reflash the ROM, then use the journal-enable zip in the development section. If you continue to have issues after that process, you most likely have a bad battery or charging circuit.
Thanks, I'm going to keep an eye on it. I have been charging it on and off all day today. No problems so far not a single force close from anything. If it does it again then I will do a clean install. I'm going to run some benchmark programs while it's charging to see what happens.
Well it looks like i'm going to Odin to full stock. She was locked up this morning this time. Front screen buttons were lit up and the blue full charge led was on.
And the blu led light and front screen buttons were still on after I unplugged it.
I had to pull the battery to reset.
If you get any more freezes or odd battery drain after the full stock, try the EB13 modem and either VisionKernel or Genocide.
Thanks, I know it's one of those trial and error things. But it's worth it.
Hi folks, ive been using my new s4 for about a week now and have noticed a pattern with the battery draining. when i unplug my phone it instantly falls to 82%, i can plug it back in and it will charge to 100% but when i unplug again it goes back to 82%, the phone seems to drain normally, usually down to 70% after my morning break then 50% after lunch, it then drops quickly to 30% then turns off at 20%.
I've tried a few different things to check that nothing is eating my battery, tried resetting to make sure nothing was running in the background.
it seems like my battery is healthy(getting a full day from it) it just seem like its scale is set wrong, i.e. 82=100 and 20=0.
is there an app that can reset this scale? ive looked into calibraters but the concencus seems ot be that they wont do anything real?
Thanks for any help.
So for quite a few releases, sprint users have been having APN issues. I thought the latest release fixed it but after everything working fine last night, now I can't send MMS again. The last build that didn't have this issue is 12/22... What changed and what can I do to fix it??? Any help would be appreciated.

Thought I was in the main q&a. Thank.
I think modifying the battery stats file requires root and maybe a custom recovery. I know there is an option to delete battery stats in recovery. Deleting it will cause android to create a new one and maybe fix a problem where it reports an incorrect battery %
It may also be that you have a faulty battery. See this article
I was previously running andybones' rom from 2.41.605.12 base, then found my way to resurrection remix, great rom, but some update last month killed my battery life and my ability to quick charge, phone was also in constant awake state, but I do not believe the issue was ROM specific. Either way, ran a battery stats report and it appeared that my motion sensors were keeping the phone awake. I completely wiped everything and RUU'd back to 1.19.605.9 (launch firmware), battery drain went away, rapid charging came back, phone would sleep. Performed some OTA updates and everything was fine until it got to the final version of MM 1.85.605.9, rapid charging gone, battery drain back, updated all the way through nougat and nothing changed, still draining.
I am currently back on 1.19.605.9, rooted, twrp installed. Rapid charge and no excessive drain.
What could possibly be causing this? Is anyone else dealing with this?
Here is my post with my last battery stats log
I'm currently dealing with the same thing.
Update: Ran an RUU of 2.41.605.36, then did a full wipe and installed santod40's [ROM][STOCK] 2.41.605.36, chose full wipe, unencrypted install, did some debloating of vzw software... and somehow, I have rapid charging and no wakelock drains...
I have ruu'd before and never resolved the issue. I am not sure what changed in the last RUU for me, but it worked.
...and it's back... lol

So I can't see the full log on my phone, but my phone is having a similar issue. I'm wondering if it's the same as yours. Under partial Wake Locks for BetterBatteryStats it shows NfcService:mRoutingWakeLock runs ALL of the time so my phone never goes into a deep sleep.

To be honest, I didn't even bother getting too deep in to it this time, I ruu'd back to an mm version that I know I don't have this trouble on. 1.85.605.8, and then used santod's debloated 1.85.605.9 after wiping and formatting data. The first time I had the issue, it appeared to be the accelerometer that wasn't allowing the phone to go to sleep... When I looked at the battery stats this time, it didn't seem to be my issue.
If you're s-off, you can downgrade. As much as I would appreciate certain features of nougat, it's not worth it if I have to be attached to a charger all day.
Not sure if it's an issue that carries over with my Google backup, next time I try, I might just do a fresh start and install apps one by one to see if/when it starts.
