hi all
i have a problem, im left handed so the volume buttons are hit constantly...
is there anyway to deactivate this buttons? ive tried looking for an app to reprogram but i cant find one
any ideas
thanks all
JT
try using your right hand anyway, i dont think you can, as you need them to boot into fastboot and stuff :\
glue them with superglue
i just tried holding it with my left hand is so many different positions... (not an innuendo!) and didnt accidentally press the volume buttons once..
how bizarre lol
maybe its the fact i used to holding a diamond, when i grip the phone it catches the piece of my palm between the index finger and thumb.
i'll have to screen lock more i guess
Maybe this will help?:

Hello,
I have a t-mobile wing with a broken screen. I'm sending it back for replacement but i want to hard reset before i do. Ive tried doing this by watching reviews on youtube to see how the menus are laid out, but i cant seem to get it right. Can anyone give me an extremely specific walkthrough?
or better yet, would someone let me call them or call me so we can walkthrough the hard reset together?
Also, I tried using the left, right softkey plus soft reset button and i don't know where to go after there. I'm not even sure if that worked.
i did this on my mda when i had a broken screen...all i did was use the actual buttons...i pressed the windows buttons used the directional button to move up and down, went to settings, used the dirctional button to move around and went to system, then used the directional button again to go to clear storage and that was it...
Can you tell me the button combination?

1. press the window button (or the start button, its the bottom left button on the phone has the windows logo).
2. go down with the joystick (the big directional button in the middle) and go to settings (select it with the button in the middle of the joystick)
3. using the joystick again go to system (its the second button on the bottom)
4. using the joystick again go to "clear storage" and select it with that middle button again (the one inside the joystick)
5. your done....
I have a broken screen i cant see where settings is. how many clicks down?
Or how many clicks up?

so you cant see anything??? i thought it was like cracked or something...anyways...here we go...ill try...
1.windows button
2. setting click up once, that should get you there or two clicks if you have the help button there...
3. click up once then click over right
4. click up once and down once then select that should get you to clear storage...
5. it will ask you to type the numbers 1234 and press yes which should be the button right button above the windows and phone button...
note: its a long shot because depending on where you left off last thats where the button will take you...if that doesnt work trying turning your phone off and trying it again to reset everything...
hope that helps

NICEEEEE
Thanks so much. it worked. Phew. now my tracks are covered. Not that i was over clocking or changing my page pool or anything. wink wink.
Oh and in case you were wondering. My phone dropped from my bed on to my carpet. And i don't know how it is physically possible but the screen cracked on the inside meaning when the phone is off it looks perfectly normal. But when i turn it on i get a crack and all white screen . Lame. I'm going to make them send me a new one.
I think what happened is that i charge it at night and i keep it under my pillow (vibrating alarm wakes me up) and i think it overheated and that caused the screen to crack not the 1.5 foot drop on to fluffy carpet. The phone shows no physical sign of damage.
glad i can help...

Hi!
Is it just me or is the power button real tough to press?
Has anyone thought of adding a small mod to raise this button to make it easier to press?
Any luck?
Thanks!
The left hand side of mine (as you look at the screen) is slightly raised.
Isn't yours ?
Yup, it's raised but just a little; i don't think I'm "fat thumbed" but it's really difficult to press while using just one hand.
I agree but it's not as bad as I found the Tytn II.
I've now got used to aiming at the left hand side of the HD button which is raised higher.
Of course, I often just use the stylus pull to switch on as well.
On the Tytn II I superglued a slice of cable insulation to the button. This worked fine. I used a small black cable and cut the insulation longways to the right size. It needed steady hands but was a good solution.
one good thing in other pda's is that in the settings menu was that keylock applet, in which you could have all the keys unlocked, so you can power on the device only by pressing the front keys, and not bother with the power button.
But i can not see this applet in the rom i have 1.14
Does anyone know how we can have this keylock applet again?
While it can sometimes be a bit of a pain to press I'm glad that it doesn't accidentally get pressed whilst in my pocket, I often don't bother locking it so I'd be pressing stuff all over the place.

Yes, i'm also seriously contemplating that solution
I'm just afraid that the button might get damaged because of the super glue... things might get messy

Well it worked so well on the Tytn II that I never took it off so I can't judge !!

In WM, I can do almost everything using one hand. In android, I don't see an on screen back button. The only way to go back is to use my other hand to push the camera button while right hand holding the phone. My friend has Droid and it has a on screen back button. For Vogue, is this the only way to go back? I'm trying to learn to use my right hand palm to push the camera button to go back. BTW, I'm using Myn's ROM but I think all android rom's like this. I which I can reassign other button like the cancel button (red button) to go back. How do you guys handle this?

I usually hold the phone in my left hand using the pads of my fingers. I put my left ring finger on the camera button so I just have to sqeeze to go back.
Works well, and it gives me a chance to exercise those fingers

+1 here
you will get used to it
and when i use the phone with my right hand i use the very bottom of my thumb bone to press the camera button also in a squeezing motion
haha Yeah I'm right handed but I hold it in my left hand and can use it 100% one handed even better than wm.
pinky on back button, thumb on unlock, or screen depending on what im doing
I do it with my right hand too lol.
i do it mainly one-handed. phone balanced between four fingers and palm, index finger to hit menu, shift phone slightly and use distal thumb joint to hit back. big hands, i guess.
Has anybody have the same problem I have with the DHD volume button? My device has the bottom part of the button jutting out a little bit, and I am worried it might fall off. I have only had this phone for 2 and a half weeks, so before considering an exchange, has anybody had the problem and fixed it? I would hate to take the button off and not be able to put it back on properly.
Can you take pic and upload it?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I had the same problem. I sent mine back to Phones4u after about a week.
Whether it would have fallen off or not, I don't know - but as mine was like that after a week or so I didn't want to take any chances.

Here are the pictures, hope they're good enough quality.
Mine's the same, it's going back when vodafone get more stock.
I also noticed the top of the screen clicks and creaks as if its loose.
Mine is the openmarket version and vodafone only have the branded handsets in stock anyone know the difference?
Just return it.
Hi all,
I've my phone about a month now and I have almost the same problem with the volume button.
Actually it isnt that bad as the pictures above but you can definetally feel that the vol-down button sticks a litle bit out while the vol-up is very hard to press.
(The powerbutton is also hard to press but that seems to be with everyones phone)
It seems HTC is very bad in making hardware buttons, I had also button problems with my Touch HD and my HD2!
What do you recommend me? Should I return it or not?
Ps for htc maybe:
The main reason why htc makes hard to press (power) buttons is to avoid acitentally turning the device on/off while its in your pocket or wathever.
I have a solution, make good easy to press CAPACTIVE (power) HARDWARE buttons.
I think that should solve a lot of problems
The bottom bit of the volume button comes out a bit too on mine but not that far!

From the pictures, i had the exact same problem. On day one, i was so happy to have the phone i looked passed it ( it was the very slightest bit sticking out ), then eventually a week later it really started coming loose, when you press volume up for example the bottom of the button would literally pop out and dangle.
In the end i arranged for a replacement the next day as i was illegible as i only had, had the phone for a week. What struck me is the elastics holding the volume rocker in place? thats the last thing i'd expect something made out of "metal" to be locking it in place.
Hi all,
i have the same problem. the volume rocker is not sticking to much out but you can definitely feel the difference between the upper and the lower side of the button. the upper side is like pushed in and kind of hard to press and you don't fell the "click" when you push the vol up. the lower side i slightly sticking out but you can fell the "click" when you push the vol down.
how do yours fell when pushing vol up?
i don't know if i should replace the device or not???
here are some pics of my problem
thanks

I returned mine and I think you should too.
Works perfectly now, but not sure if it can last 20 months as my old one broke so early. Taking the greatest of care whilst touching the volume rocker now. Kinda sad that a device so expensive has quite a few cosmetic flaws.
Exact same issue with mine i dabbed some super glue ont he plastic and the metal. Its alot better now. Seen new buttons on ebay, has anyone tried these yet? How do you install them?

In the picture you attached, the volume key lok in the correct place. However, the Aluminum or battery cover is not in the correct shape. I can see some distortion.
Hi,
I just don't get it, I'm trying to Hardreset my WP7 (UltraFruit) but I can't press both buttons at the same time.. I start holding the two buttons before or while magldr counts 1,2,3.. In some cases I get tricolor screen with nspl, I found out this happens when I press only Vol- and the other case is it boots into WP7.. So can anyone explane me how to press these buttons at the same time? I find it very difficult as it is one plastic cover for two buttons..
Background: I have two microSD cards, one from Android and the other one is locked by WP7.. If I flash WP7 it doesn't work (with both cards).. Can hardreset help in this case to get one of the cards working with WP7 or do I need Nokia?
Thanks in advance
Hey there.
Here's what I do, when the phone is powered off. I have the phone sideways, screen facing right, and my left hand holding it, with my thumb on the right side of the phone and my middle and index fingers on the two volume buttons. Squeezing these three fingers, you can feel both volume buttons go down. You're right though, one plastic thing covers the two buttons so you have to squeeze hard. With my free hand, I power that mutha on.
