Dear all
i did flash my us version hd2rom but i didn;t notice that the rom igot is for taiwan. Now my phone can;t turn on can't see anything on the phone can't reset. It's totally die now.
Is any one know how to fix it? I just got the phone xd
oh i shouldn;t do this. Really need help now
Not to be rude but you really should have used the search function. Sorry but if you flashed the wrong ROM your bricked. It's just a $550 paper-weight. Send it back to T-mobile and play innocent. Again, really sorry because at this point in time there is nothing at all you can do.
~Jasecloud4
We would need more details as to the steps you've taken to get to the point where you are.
Did you flash the appropriate TMOU HSPL prior to installing the ROM - and where did you get the ROM from? What happens when you try to charge it via USB?
As the other poster said, you shouldve done some homework before potentially effing up your device.
hi guys, I just got a same problem. After I flash a rom from HK my phone just totally die. Can't turn on, can't reset, can't charge. And my pc can't recognized my phone... (I did flash the appropriate TMOU HSPL )
your phone is Dead Learn to read on how to flash before you go blindely into doing it
New users really should wait a week or two before flashing their new phones so as to get familiar with the process.
Thank said, I hope you are able to get it fixed. Stay calm, read posts where others did the same thing and see if you are able to repair it. Do Not rush things.
return the phones and play innocent indeed. next time take time to read stickies and warnings from rom cooks :/
ha i dont own an hd2 im just reading up on them (in case i own one...android ftw though) but this guy sure sounds like a BRICK.
I have unlocked bricked phone with wrong rom.
There is one thing you can try.
Take the sim card out.
take the mem stick out.
Remove the battery for at least 30 minutes.
start phone with volume down pushed in.
if it doesn't power on try waiting an hour or two.
conect to pc and run task 29.
Then flash with corect rom and radio
Damn really sucks bro.. But this is why we must always double check that the Rom is mad for 1024 Hd2(U.S) and not 512... Best bet just tell t-mobile that phone stop working out of nowhere

this really is the best option.. why even fiddle around with it anymore? send it back to TMo and get a brand new one.. Either act innocent or mad... mad always gets free stuff... extra battery perhaps? another 16gb sd card? who knows... gotta complain to gain...

LOLOLOLOL...
Exact same thing happened to me and I couldn't do ANYTHING with it wouldn't turn on couldn't get it in boot mode and essentially what your going to have to do is.........send it back and play dumb and get another sent out to you!! Other than that you are truly sitting on a good looking paper weight!!
I'm glad someone pointed out that at least it's a nice looking paperweight...lol
I did the same thing on my 1-day old HD2 with the HK Rom.
Went to the local mobile phone repair centre and had a techie guy work on it over 2 hours and still couldn't get anywhere. He was suggesting me replace the Flash Memory however I insisted there must be a way without messing around the hardware.
In the end the techie called his bro (supposedly the original factory) and was advised that there is no bootloader just as yet....I was asked to wait a few weeks and see...
I am in the view that this brick can be unbricked but it just will take some time for people to develop the techniques and have the appropriate hardware/software in stock...
PLEASE DO READ CAREFULLY BE JUMPING INTO THE WATER. Everyone is busy but this is the price - a $580 paper weight!
might have a second luck
why dont u hold the volume up and volume down buttons at the same time. then power on the device and do a hard reset. or just run task29 try to get the phone to get picked up by task29. and re-rom it. just a thought. dont know if it will work.
or third luck
how about you turn off the phone. push the volume down button power it on. and run one of the CleanEx roms while in the boot menu. give it a try it might work. its not like something worse can happen.
(make sure sim and sdcard are out)
1. make sure ur phones off
2. hold the volume button
3. while holding the volume button power on the device
4. just check if u even have ur spl on hspl (optional)
5. download a CleanEX ROM
6. run CustomRUU.exe
and see if that fixes it. and if that doesn't work just try the same steps but before you get to step 6 run task29 first.

Tried all means already except for Task 29. Will do some research then give it a try.
I'd recommend you to follow advices from senior members. In my case I bricked my 2 day HD2 TMOUS because I follow a sugestion about a ROM from another member of this forum. I asked twice if that ROM was compatible with the TMOUS HD2!!! I installed the correct HSPL version then installed the ROM and bricked my phone. There's no way to fix, take it to a T-MOBILE store and play dumb, make them call customer service and you'll get a new phone in 2-3 days, it worked for me.
Hey all, I am new to the forum and the android OS, but have some knowledge of unlocking etc (I unlocked my iPhone)... I don't want to unlock my phone but all I want to do it wipe it and start fresh with a stock OS etc. I want to be able to send it in for warranty if needed, so my question is, can I somehow get past this pattern lockout myself? Or do I need to send the phone in and get a new one. As it stands, my replacement phone won't be here till NEXT weds (9.8.10) and that is just toooo long. Any noob help is appreciated!
FYI: I did some research already and d/l'd the Android SDK and JavaSE etc. But dont know where to go from there.
Thanks again!
with the phone off try press and hold volume up and down together then press power button and hold till you get Vibrant screen then use up and down arrows to highlight and power to select factory data reset.

Freakin Awesome man... thanks a ton everyone for the help... I'll let ya know how the reflash turns out!
Update: Odin doesn't seem to want to see the phone... pretty sure I dont have the USB drivers... Where can I find that?
DBL Edit: Found it and its doing its business as we speak! Thanks again!
YES! IT IS FIXED!!!!!!! TY for all the help!
Offer:
I've got a $30.00 PayPal for someone with decent rep here to walk me through the update.
History: This is a new virgin phone, exchanged today. (Sun) The OTA killed my previous phone and I was unable, for whatever reason, to restore nandroid, backup, nada. Until this morning, that was the best phone I've ever had because of this forum and esp the Tips & Tricks thread.
It had: Root, Rom Manager, Titanium Backup, Ryan's OCLF, Autostarts, and MOBILE AP wireless tethering app. (This one is a must for me.)
What I want:
I want the JI6 update installed and the above programs re-installed per the Tips thread... In whatever order you think is best. We verify these things work and I send money immediately. My word is good. (I can re-install my 40 odd apps afterward on my own time.
Background:
I have followed the Tips thread instructions for ODIN. (Open ODIN, press vol up & dn, plug in wire, see COM msg in box, (debug on) mount phone, Pit>...512, PDA>...JI6, START. ..... Nothing! 2 seconds later the message box says something like {All threads complete. 0 succeeded, 0 failed>}
Bottom line:
I've read posts for hours but since I don't really know what I'm doing well, I am also unable to sift through all the advice figuring out which poster's setup is like mine. At this point, I just want it done right.
I will edit this post when it's done. Thanks for reading.

I'm in the same boat, as far as trying to use Odin. Broken phone, nothing working for me.
So, you took your phone to the store, told them you applied the update and now you're stuck on the vibrant screen, and they just gave you a new one right then and there?
you can drop me a pm and i can try and get you through it. Wont take your money though. Make sure you have odin 1.3 downloaded and the odin flash file for JI6 downloaded. If you can get adb working you get bonus points.
Are you hardware locked? if so you need to download the patch for it also found on here. If not should be easy to get ya up and running with the above mentioned things in place.
If I went to fast or confused you just say so in the pm and we can go as slow or as fast as you need.

Im pretty sure i know what u are doing wrong man. pm me and i can help u out if u havent already
I gave up on unbricking.
No Trunk, It was more of an escalation from a gentle request (at which point they told me "2 weeks & we'll mail it to ya' ".) through several layers of increasing... uhhh... 'amplitude', ("Okay, We'll do priority mail; 3 or 4 days.") culminating in chaining the duct taped Tmo rep's feet to the back of my hog for a quick ride up the street. ("I think we have one in the back, let me check...")
Cyber, your posted phone 'resume' sig is the scariest thing I've ever seen. (Except for my ex.) Does that thing have photon torpedoes too? Krap!
Okay, just kidding 'bout all that. Thank you guys for responding. Will send PMs tomorrow. (1 more brick & I'm gonna need mortar...) About 3-4 pm pacific time. Again, thanks.
I had root but no roms, no adb, no hardware unlock. I'm not a sophisticated power user. I loved it the way it was, except for the GPS/compass thing. It was fast (with the lagfix) and tethered wirelessly & easy w/ the Mobile AP, & I had some control over the running programs.
phone power off. (remove battery if you think it will help)
ok had my phone brick today took about an hour of googling, reading, downloading etc to get it to work again
Load odin
plug phone into USB (power off mind you) press and hold both volume keys at once, plug into PC, this "should boot you into download mode ( android guy with shovel screens says DOWNLOADING! once it loads into download mode you should see some Com info at the top left of odin, thats your cue to load the PDA and PIt file. check PDA box press start, and wait, installation should take about 5 mins
I was in motion with ODIN finally, when I accidentally pulled the USB cord out of my laptop. Now, all I get when trying to get in download mode is a graphic of a phone, a yellow triangle with exclamation mark, and a computer.
Holy crap this is a learning experience. Anyone know what do do?

Ok here is your next step by step. First take a deep breath you CAN definitely recover this....
you need to hold down the up/down volume and the power button. The yellow triangle image will go dark and come back. You need to wait till after it goes dark twice then when the image shows up for the third time release the volume side. wait about 5 seconds and release the power. Should jump you back into download so make sure your odin is up and ready

Awesome. Thank you so much. What a debacle. I'm stock again. Or at least, it looks like stock again. Now, to get the OTA update and hopefully this time it won't break my phone. I have no idea why it broke the last time I tried it.
My phone was so personalized before, I feel lost, like this is someone else's phone.
Stupid question... Why not just odin the official JI6 file that's posted and be done with it. Even better forget the JI6 and look at one of the awesome roms by eugene or bionix as they both use JI6 as their base?
Dude....where in OC are ya ?
I'm in Seal Beach,if you don't get it fixed before your stated 4pm pst time...gimme a holler and I'll even bring my laptop and cable.

Not sure if that was for me or not, but I don't even know what JI6 is... flashing stock was the first time I ever Odin'd anything before.
I don't have much of a rep here, but here's how I did things. I installed OCLF from the market, and rooted (and only rooted). Then I installed ROM manager and did a nandroid (and I did one after each change I made to my phone as well). Then I updated to JI6 through odin. After that, I gave myself MobileAP. Then (because I was hardware locked), I used odin to fix that. As far as I know, you can install everything else you got from the market from there (all root apps not already installed included). I can't really tell you how that lag fix from OCLF works with JI6, as I never actually used that part of the app (I only used it to root).
As a side note, you may get an error with odin if you aren't in download mode (but you may still get a com message). For a sure fire way to get into download mode, open odin, and then plug in your phone (completely booted). Use the adb command "adb reboot download" and you'll be in download mode and ready to use odin. Also, if you mess up, as long as you can get into download mode, you can use odin to flash back to how your phone originally shipped.
Update
Hey guys,
I HAVE JI6!!!
I'm the OP & I just logged on to send the PMs to be rescued. I saw the mini-kies method of installing JI6, tried it, and it worked. I'm re-rooted, oclf'ed, clockworked, & have re-installed many apps.
The MOBILE AP seems to be my last major hurdle. I forgot how I did it last time but it worked great! Now the instructions I think are different??? I don't remember any "flashing" with CW though. I've never flashed anything. I've read every post HERE but I'm gunshy now. Is there a "for dummies" way to do this?
Also, I have lost my Haptic feedback. It seems to be set correctly, but it's just not there. Even when I adjust the intensity up to full, nada. It may have happened after the OCLF install, or playing with Swype, not 100% sure. It definatelt was working an hour ago... Any ideas on this? Thanks.
Thanks for the "PM me" responses. You guys are slowly curing my ignorance. (very slowly...)
Member character...
Yep. The Brickmaster is back. After a 3 day long recovery process from a new phone, I had somehow done it again...
This is to say thanks to the multiple members who offered personal help but in particular, to the one who gave it. After a PM, this man called me back and for 2 straight hours on a Friday night, with no request for, or guarantee of payment, patiently led me through the technicalities of an Odin recovery. Somehow, he fixed my phone. And I got a little more education.
During the course of this call, it turned out he is an Iraq war veteran with a new baby who is re-enlisting in the military to serve his country even more! Thank you so much for your help, and my gratitude for your service to our country.
.................................................................................................
As for me, being a natural born electronics genius is rough. Last night I elevated the art of brickification to a new high. (2 clicks gentlemen. Beat that!!!) The poison pill was OCLF, then Voodoo, BTW.
Oh yeah, PS... If anyone needs their phone converted into a shiny black paperweight, get in touch. I'm among the best out there.
Ok, I am such a noob when it comes to this phone. I did an upgrade to the DK28, but that is where I stand. I figured out that the issues I have and figured out that I need the newest ROM package, or a good ROM package, but after reading how to do it, I don't feel that comfortable doing it. So I will pay someone in my area to do it for me, so that I don't make my phone useless. If there is anyone in the San Jose area who could help me with this, I will pay you for your time.

Hey man, I understand your fear of delving into this stuff as I was in your place not too long ago. Trust me when I say though that it is not as hard as you might think. Allow me to provide you a few links to where to start:
Oneclickrootandrecovery
This will get you root and install clockwork recovery mod going on your phone.
Now, you need to decide if you want to run a custom rom or just want to be able to add themes and such.
I'm going to assume you just want themes (because if you want a custom rom you'd just be getting my opinion and if you want that you can see my sig =D) so here is a link to the stock de-odexed DK28 rom this will allow you to apply themes and use the stock AOSP lock screen.
ACS DK28 ROM
I would suggest you try these things before putting your phone in someone elses hands. =) Good luck either way though man!
Hey Kenvan. No, not really themes, but a more workable phone. When I did the DK28 upgrade it took out my camera and everything associated with it. I was told these newer roms could fix this issue. A new theme would be cool, but it's not my main focus. I was able to root the phone, but not too sure I am comfortable doing the flash and rom type of stuff. Will I lose my info on the phone? I was able to back everything up with Ti backup, but hoping I don't lose everything. Thanks for responding. Plus I hear some rom's are better than others. I just feel more comfortable paying someone to do it, or teach me hands on so that it's done correctly.

No problem at all man, as I said I was literally in your shoes a few months ago and was deathly afraid of damaging my phone. If you are rooted and have CWM, then do this (I understand its an awkward way to hold your phone): Press the volume up, volume down, and camera buttons at the same time then (continuing to hold those ones) press the power button.
This should boot you into CWM. If you're worried about your data perform what is called a NANDROID backup. Using the volume rocker, scroll down to Backup and Restore and select it with the camera button. Again with the volume rocker, scroll down to Back up and select with camera button again. Don't remember off the top of my head if there will be a confirmation screen but if there is, select yes. Let it run its thing and then select Reboot system Now.
You now have a backup! You said you have Titanium backup and thats great. Make sure you update it before you do this next step.
If you want a stable ROM that works well, I suggest Nebula. The guy who makes it is a working professional who uses his ROM for his work phone and as such needs it to function. Follow the link in my signature to download the rom (it'll be a long download) and put it on your SD card.
I am also a huge fan of amosher's gingerbread theme, and I've attached an image of my screen so you can see what it looks like (ignore my dock, it is custom using launcherpro). If you like it download that from the link in my signature as well and again put it on your SD card.
Now do the boot into CWM thing I told you to do before. Select Install zip from sdcard and then choose zip from sdcard then find the Nebula rom zip on your SD card and select it. Now this time it WILL ask you to confirm and click yes. As a side note this will wipe your application data but as long as you have a titanium back up of it, you're golden.
Again, allow it to do its thing. Part way through the install your screen will go black and then some blue text that won't really be fit onto the screen will show up and chances are you'll panic. Don't, its fine. Give it a few seconds and you'll be good.
If you want to use Nebula alone or just want to see it before making a decision about using the gingerbread theme, use the Go Back and reboot system now. Otherwise, do the install from sdcard process again with the gingerbread theme on your sdcard. This time it will the screen will not go black so don't worry that it doesn't.
Now, when you boot this time its going to be a long boot. You're going to worry "Is it doing anything? Oh gosh, did I brick my phone? Oh no, oh no, oh no." Don't fear. It just takes some time to boot up after flashing a new rom. And there is a quick(ish) guide to flashing =)
Ok, bear with me. I have to go into work right now, but will pm you when I get back. Thanks so much for the help, and I will pick your brain when I get back.
Thanks again

You don't need to hold the volume up to get to cwm. It's just volume down, camera, and power.

If your your phone is already on and booted up, then you need to also hold the volume up to initiate the reboot process, otherwise if your phone is off, then you are correct.
Vol Up + Camera + Power = Reboot
Vol Up + Vol Down + Camera + Power = Reboot into Recovery
Vol Down + Camera + Power = Boot into Recovery (from phone off)
Did you figure this out?

Hey guys, ok back on the scene. Ok, I well look though Kenvan's link. I am still very hesitant about trying to do this. Also will these newer roms help with my camera issue? It also effects the bar code scanner, so I don't know if a rom will fix these issues. Also by reading some posts, what's the best rom's to go with? As someone stated, thanks for helping me out, much appreciated.
I will be here all day, so will do this today if I can.

As to your camera issue, I cannot offer any support because I have only ever had one camera issue and that was the known black and white preview bug in CM6. I can say that on Nebula Rom my camera has been working great and I've been able to use the barcode scanner a few times.
Again, I do understand your hesitance but let me assure you: Bricking your phone is REALLY HARD TO DO. And I mean REALLY hard to do unless you start trying experimental things like the ext4 file system hack. The thing to remember is that as long as your phone turns on (doesn't have to boot past the samsung screen or even less that that somestimes) you're not bricked and its easily fixable.
Finally, my suggestion for a ROM would be Nebula simply because I love its simplicity and stability. Its not the fastest but it is quick and it just works.
Ok cool, is there a step by step way or video to explain how to do this properly? Are all roms the same as far as installing them?

There are some videos but I don't know any of them instead I can recommend you go to irc.freenode.net type in a username and join #samsung-epic
I'm in there and not doing anything so I can help you out step by step.
I went on there and didn't see you but got some advice. I'm going to look it over after the OU game. Will be back on here tonight.
I apologize I left for a bit to get dinner.
Sent from my Epic 4g running Nebula Rom
Hi again guys. I dont know if i ralle can use the term bricked or not, but i guess so. After a funny day with a couple reboot and new "radio" image my Legend want start anymore. The screen is just black, even if i hold down vol down/up and power. So the big question.... Is this phone bricked? If so, can i fix it?
EDIT: The LED does not even respond when charger is plugged in.
Sorry for the lack of English.
if it is bricked - try this.
I dont even get to fastboot The phone is completely dead/black
Are you S-OFF? I've never known a S-ON Legend be completely bricked like that!
No i'm still S-ON because of the d*** HBOOT 1.01
Only thing i've done so far is root+CM7. And yesterday when i played around with ROM Manager i had to remove the battery upon a crash.
Apparently same problem as here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096083
This is really weird...

I think you are in trouble...
RomManager is maybe the source of your problems, what did you do with ?
Did you have errors during the radio installation process ? and which radio were you flashing ?
Here the story. I rooted my phone and switch to CM7 and notice that my GPS did not work with stock radio verision (dont remember wich) I upgraded to 7.08.35.21 and the GPS finally workt again with some minor interrups. Did some reading and decided to upgrade again to 7.13.35.05.
The installation went well untill the end. A picture was shown, a mailbox lookalike with an arrow pointing at a foolish looking droid dude. The only thing i could do was to remove the battery, after that the phone was dead.

me too it sucks
Is it still under warranty? (Obviously not as you're rooted, but would it be if you weren't rooted?) If so, try sending it to HTC they might just replace it if they can't see for themselves that you're rooted!
If you says its a firmware update that caused the phone to not turn on they just JTAG it without checking, reflash the latest update (and sadly HBOOT) and send it back

They will send it back unfixed and say the warranty is void. Even if they know its rooted they might still fix it for you, it depends.
It's my fault that the phone is broken and i'm willing to take that blame A clean conscience makes me sleep better at night
I dont know how it is in the rest of the world, but in my country there is a high fee if they notice that the owner has done something with the firmware etc. Thanks anyway for all the respons and help, and remember guys, stay away from Rom manager
You only have to say that it said update available then when it restarted it did this.. If they say anythign after its been sent then just plead ignorance. Its not like they cant afford to repair one phone

well i'm going to say something like that. Generally because my phone was buggered before then (signal problems and locking into airplane mode) though i'm rooted i still wouldn;t think i'd get away with it
does it matter if the root is S-ON i'm just thinking off my chances
PM sent, I can fix hard bricked Legends with JTAG.
