Just wondering if anybody else is havin issues with gps..
It works when it truly once too..
I have rom version 3.03.651.2
Radio version 3.42.30
is there a program that you can confirm your gps is on.. I have shut the phone off through comm manager ect an turn it back on ect.... an still it not taking .. I have done a hard reset aswell.. It work good for one day then BOOm nada , nothing.. I am in reynoldsburg/columbus ohio 43068 just wondering any of my fellow local peesr dealing with the same issue..
..... Spell check.....
Anyway. No there isn't a massive issue going around where the touch has issues with the gps. You need to make sure your radio and rom are up to date. Then there are tools like this
THIS ONE
That allow you to view gps from your today screen.
P.S. Mods please move this thread. The subject has nothing to do with development or hacking. >_<

because i cant root my wildfire (yet, even im not a fan of rooting) im still trying to fix my compass.
the problem started a few days ago when my compass for no apparent reason at all started pointing to left (west) and it points there no mater how i rotate the phone. and when i rotate it to 180 degrees from the direction its pointing it just goes wild.
the problem seems to be in the system calibration of the magnetometer. the magnetometer chip is ak8973 (i even found a datasheet for that chip) and system has a calibration (or something) data in a few files in the /data/misc/ and they are called..
rild_nitz_short_name_20404
rild_nitz_long_name_20404
AK8973Prms.txt.tmp
AK8973Prms.txt
but because i dont have root access i cant even confirm that they are there. can someone confirm that with a rooted wildfire please? .
now, the problem wouldn be that annoying if i could calibrate it once for all, but every single time i open some app that uses compass i need to calibrate it (like gps essentials).. and even if calibrate it it forgets that calibration the moment the screen goes off.
but even worse problem is google maps what dosent have any calibration, so i need to swing it all around a minute or so until it starts to work.. and again, when screen goes if it looses itself.
something like this..
youtube.com/watch?v=AqOmnI8A9Zg
i tried to get into safe mode (htc sent me the procedure) but i get into it for like 30 seconds, and then the phone reboots itself and gets into normal mode, so i cant confirm that its a system error. can someone help me whit this too?
im searching for a solution for days now, but without any luck.
did someone fixed this problem without rooting it (or factory reset because im in a lot of work these days so i dont have time to set up the whole phone and all app settings.. or is there a way to save all app settings and just put them back in?)
THE PROBLEM IS FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!
tomorow ill login to this forum with my real nickname, not this temporary one (i see that this comunity is great!! ) and then ill write a tortorial how to fix compass problem on non rooted htc wildfire with stock android 2.2.1 .
i see that adb isnt so complicated when you know what your doing, and its easy to learn .
excuse me, and could you please post a so wanted tutorial here.
Anyone ever made one? Reason why I'm asking is sometimes g-sensor is not always needed, or preferred by the users and it can actually cause more problems than solutions!
I'd love to have one but can't find one anywhere and can't find a way to turn my G-Sensor off, sure it's able to be enabled.... But not disabled! WTF? LoL
Thanks for all suggestions and advice!
Hi, I just installed this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019092
and GPS doesn't seem to work. I tried every fix I know of,
Editing the gps.cfg file
replacing the networklocation.apk
installing GPS Fix apps
but I still can't get it to work
I asked the rom maker what could be wrong and it seems GPS still works for him so maybe it's just me.
details:
Radio 2.15.50.14
Install on NAND with Data on EXT
If anyone has any idea how to help, it wold be highly appreciated. I found a good Jelly rom for me and I don't wanna switch again just because GPS isn't working.

Why are you posting this here - seems like nothing to do with ths rom.
Anyway, probably hardware. If device gets a knock the gbs antenna internal contacts to metal case or antenna cable to the motherboard can be dislodged - happened to me
Okay. I've been a total idiot. I got gps to work and got a lock quite quickly. I was trying to get a lock indoors which was stupid as i found out gps only works outdoors. But i have another question, i used to be able to get my position even though it wasnt 100% accurate indoors. Is that function rom related or hardware and how do i enable it?
Edit:
Okay, i've gotten it to work. There seemed to be a problem with the NetworkLocation.apk (found in /System/App of the rom (It was only around 90 KB, that could be whats wrong). What I did was replace it with root explorer with another NetworkLocation.apk from another Jelly MIUI Rom (smokin's MIUI Jelly Bean, it wa around 320 kb), set permissions to Owner:Read & Write, then the rest to Read, reboot and voila, indoor locations detected.
Problem solved! I just did a butt load of searching to find out what my problem was and what the issue was called. Lol. Sorry for wasting a thread. Wont happen again.

Is it my device or is it a general problem? Gps of G2 locks very very fast, has signal even inside of a room, lock many more satellites than any previous phone. I dont have problem with car navigation eg navigon. So where is the problem?
I go for running. I use runtastic. Here is a photo of recording of gps:
It is very very bad. It is like it takes signal every 30 seconds or something and draw lines. . I run in the road but it shows like i run in parking , or above cars. The same applications with galaxy s2 is very accurate. I also tried many others athletic applications to see if it is some incompatibility of runtastic but, the same happens to all.
I even tried tracker booster from play store to see if it is a sleeping problem , but didnt help.
Any help on this? Anyone using G2 for running , to write his experience? Thanks.
Have you tried other apps? If it doesn't happen in other apps, it's probably this one.

I'm on my second G2 (took one back to buy at full retain), and used each for 10+ days. I use Endomondo, no issues on either phone. Not sure if you can or if even possible to try and recalibrate the gps signal. May be your gps chip, and if you can, return it.
Even having same issue using say, My Tracks?

My tracks i haven't try. I have try endomondo , same problem. Best of all work sport tracker. I just notice that even navigon have a small problem. When i stop it still goes on and again go back.. With galaxy s2 that wasnt the case. .
As i have bought from foreign eshop it is very difficult to return. . I dont have any other problem except of this but , it is important for me...
Perhaps first of all i have to do a factory reset.
If there is any way to recalibrate gps, if anyone knows... I am rooted. .

Yeah, I mean, it seems like something is wonky with your gps. Have you tried: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
Understandably this is important. I had similar issues with my 2year old GNexus, and it drove me crae crae. At the very most, cna try a factory reset... but I'd check the other gps I linked to see if that helps.
Good luck!
