RUU doesn't care what state the phone is in. you can run it just about any time. It puts it back to out of the box.
Will it still have your sprint phone number, etc?

Yes, the phone doesn't loose provisioning. ESN stays the same so does the number tied to it on sprints end.

no you loose root.
well i guess its not a big deal to re'root.. the other thing i thought of though was.. what about my paid for apps?? is there a way to save them?
well wait a minute.. i did a nanroid back up so after i hard restart if I run that i get back my apps?? and root?
ok crazy thing.. so i get on with tech support, and they help me do a hard restart... after it reboots i go to the nandroid boot screen,,,,, so i choose reboot (i dont tell her this part) and when it boots up im restarted but still have flash 1.1 ! so i still have superuser app but i lost spare parts, and all my other factory apps are back where they go except the ones that flash kills.
my paid for apps are gone to. should i do a nandroid and get it all back.. the hard restart fised my picture text problem
Paid apps are linked to your gmail account. AS long as you used tbe same one when you started the phone back you still can redownload them from the market.
but how do i get spare parts back?
nm found it on the market ( i think its the same spare parts )??
YEp...Same.
ok so i think i got everything back on,, but i was still worried the hard start might have changed the fresh programing in a way i couldnt see, so i re-flashed 1.1 .... hope this didnt do anything crazy =)

Hello.
Now I got a serious problem with my Hero.
I made a factory reset, reinstalled my apps from the Market, changed my APN settings and turned the phone off.
I try to turn it on again - But now it stuck at the HTC logo and keep flashing over the letters like normally.
I get past the HERO and the little android dude just fine, but can't go on from the HTC icon.
Ive tried back + on/off to make a reset, but the same thing repeats. Stuck at HTC icon :/
For sure Im going to take contact to both HTC and my operator (Telmore - Denmark) tomorrow :O
Any one got an idea what this can be? I havent rooted or flashed nor touched my phone in any unoffical way.
Thanks
Best Regards,
Philip

Remove the battery for a while and then place it back and start youre phone again. That might solve the problem.
Ive tried to remove the battery lots of times. "for a while" how long do you mean? Ive had it out like 2 mins or. But ill try thx

Maybe half an houre or so. Its just a tip I read about of some that had a bad factory-restore. Some even left the battery out overnight.
Oh that looks like a bit of hope
Thank you. Ill let rest for an hour or so and see if it works then.
Anyone be welcome if you got other ideas - and thank you Heppieboeddah

Really dont know if this will work for you. I do hope so. You also might leave youre sim-card out while starting the first time. You wrote you changed something in the APN settings...
you can also try removing the SD-card. a broken / incorrectly formatted card can also trigger this behaviour.
Ive tried both with and without simcard and sdcard.
I just putted my battery in again.. still no luck :/
Damn its hard to live without the Hero :O
I had the same problem and had to return it to the supplier. Has been away for over 1 week now. I would be very interested to know what the cause/solution is.
I reflashed it with the 2.7.3 update.
Now it works again!
Hey everyone, my hd2 died (original 1.48 rom), I already tried soft reset, hard reset, put out my battery, charge it and everyhting that came to my mind but when i turn it on it wont go further than the first htc image.
Is there anything i cant do or should i just take it back to the shop?
Thanks
I would take it back, even if you do fix it. You don't want a phone that may still have a underlying problem.
Htc HD2 BRICK Need HELP!!!!!!!
I flashed Duttys_Leo_Sense_2.5_5.2.23554.5.5.0_1.72_Multi-Lang_6.5.5_Radio_2.07.51.22.2_V1.2_WWE into tmobile htc hd2 cause i was [email protected]$kin goin Rom happy and didnt double check its compatibility and my screen went blank black, cant power on, cant go into bootloader, and cant hard reset but when i plug it in to my computer it recognizes it as a device without a driver i saw it in the device manager on windows 7 ulitmate. CAN I SAVE MY HTC HD2??
I KILL my htc hd2 (BRICKED)
I used HSPL2_1024_RUN.exe i flashed like 5 roms within 24hrs i was trying them out and this one made killed my hd2.
for those stuck on the htc boot image
take off the back cover of the phone and press the little red button, this will restart the phone
AS SOON AS you press it, press and hold the volume down button this will bring you to the bootloader
connect the phone via usb to your computer and flash a different radio rom (look first which are compatible with your rom)
if this doesnt work, using the same method flash back to your original rom.

for tmous with 1gb rom NEVER flash a radio with .51. in the code.
still haven't seen anyone recover from this. if anyone has please let me know.
Damn it captain!!!!!!
I just got it on the 24th shhhhhhhh....... ummm i just will take it to TMOBILE i hope i can get an other one, they may not have one in stock or they WONT give me another. i will see as soon as the store opens.
Sorry to hear about people's problems. Just remember if you have TMobile
USA there is NOT a way to flash another rom onto the phone..Just give it time the wonderful folks here are working on it. If your still in your 14 day grace period just return the phone to the store and play dumb. You might
have to wait for another phone since apparently they did not anticipate
how many people wanted this phone and sold out quickly. I know I was there
at 6:30 and the second in line and they only had 5!
Anyway, the most important thing you can do here is DO a search!
I KILL my htc hd2 (BRICKED)
BUT I have flashed roms into Tmobiles htc hd2 like TOUCH_X_TREME_23549_TMOUS_2_30_5_49 among others and they worked! i was just try different ones and i PICKED and I BRICKED!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry? sure about that? seems to me lots of people have successfully flashed their tmous hd2.
It only goes wrong if you
1 - flash a rom based on anything less than 2.10 rom
or
2 - flash a radio with ..51.. in the version number.

I do not see a little red button under the back cover. I am in the US, just bought phone, slightly used of course, no warranty. It suddenly went dead this afternoon while charging, will sometimes try to power up but will just keep flashing that one screen "stick together" over and over.....
Tried another battery, same thing.

Mine is doing the same thing . . . in the US, the reset button is right next to the SD card slot, and it's yellow. Mine wouldn't come on Friday, and I started a web chat with Tmobile to see if they would exchange it, and then it just came back on. They said as long as the white sticker at the top of the battery compartment is still white (proving you didn't get it wet), then they will exchange it. It worked fine for me the rest of the weekend (AFTER I did a hard reset, and got it running great!!). This morning, I locked it while running MobiTV, then I couldn't unlock it, so I pulled the battery. That was 2 hours ago, and it still won't come on . . .
If it doesn't come on before I leave work, I'm taking it to Tmobile tonight!!
UPDATED 20 minutes later: Just came on . . . no rhyme or reason why?? Just started after MULTIPLE times of taking out and putting back battery, SIM, and SD card. Got the same error that I've been getting the last couple months on reboots (services.exe)?? When I did a CleanRAM, it free'd up 3.36MB . . . so SOMETHING was hung up, but nothing was running in the task manager??
Generally, few task managers show what's really going on with the phone's memory. Use an advanced task manager which will allow you to control the actual processes running on your device, Google for the names of those which seem to cause mischief and terminate them (if possible) or try to find a solution.

Hey I am also Tmobile User and I have flashed a few ROMS luckily I have not Bricked my phone (knock on wood.) I was just wondering how your return went? I have insurance on mine and figured I would just take it back if that happened. I just didn't know if that would work? Did you ever get a new one
Another update . . . used my phone all afternoon, and tried to charge it, and it wouldn't charge??? Luckily, my husband has the same phone, so I checked his with the same charger. Compared the two phones, and the prongs that hit the battery were bent back. I folded them back down, and now it can charge again. Makes me wonder if that is the problem with the phone not coming back on? Maybe putting the battery back in so that it wasn't hitting the prongs has been keeping it from turning back on . . .
This phone really really sucks...
First thing in the morning I am taking it back... EVERY phone call I made today in the middle the phone shut down and restarted... F this...
Its just a re-packaged Galaxy S anyway... Nothing special about it except a curved piece of glass they call a curved screen...

Stop crying. You have a defective unit, or a software issue. Either do a hard reset (full wipe), or exchange the handset. Since you're the only one having these problems, it's your specific phone.
I deleted all the apps that I installed / were installed when I set up the phone...
How can I do a factory reset and not have my original apps re-install...

I don't know how not to have your apps reinstall after a wipe, but it shouldn't matter. The software issue I was referring to was not necessarily related to apps... but the system software.
If you really want the auto install of your apps to stop, then skip the Gmail sign in procedure and then test out the phone to see if it's still FC'ing. If yes, exchange. If no, set up the phone and see if it's an app you installed.
Alright... lets see what happens...
Good luck... and don't freak out so much. From time to time there are a few people that get defective units... that happens with any mass produced device. Worst case scenario you can exchange or return it.
When setting up your phone don't check back up data with google your apps shouldn't restore. If for some reason they so skip everything and sign in through the market. Give the thing a shot. Its not the phone model that sucks, its your FUBARd phone. Defects suck lots
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
every android device ive bought ive had to exchange the first as defective, so far my nexus s is the exception, exchange it and you should be fine
I reset, didn't install any previous apps and did not set up my google accounts...
first 5 minute call was fine...
When you're logging in for the first time, at one of the screens, you can press menu and DISABLE auto restore of your settings/apps.
Don't check backup data with google. Your apps wont restore. That is the process you want lol

What did you mean by, "I hate when phone packages are open..."? Best Buy opens new phones before selling them? The phone came already opened, that is, unsealed?
That's alarming, if so. What for?
All the ones I saw were open at Best Buy... Some had screen protectors pre-installed and some not...
After they charged me my ~$580, they opened the box and showed "here is your SIM, Headphones, Battery, Charger, USB cable"
When I got my girlfriend her Verizon Fascinate there, it was open, they had to set it up through Verizon so I could understand that... but for a GSM phone, no reason to not be sealed IMHO...
Its been so long since I purchased a phone from a retail store I don't remember how they come...
Even the Nexus 1 was sealed...

Hi again guys. I dont know if i ralle can use the term bricked or not, but i guess so. After a funny day with a couple reboot and new "radio" image my Legend want start anymore. The screen is just black, even if i hold down vol down/up and power. So the big question.... Is this phone bricked? If so, can i fix it?
EDIT: The LED does not even respond when charger is plugged in.
Sorry for the lack of English.
if it is bricked - try this.
I dont even get to fastboot The phone is completely dead/black
Are you S-OFF? I've never known a S-ON Legend be completely bricked like that!
No i'm still S-ON because of the d*** HBOOT 1.01
Only thing i've done so far is root+CM7. And yesterday when i played around with ROM Manager i had to remove the battery upon a crash.
Apparently same problem as here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096083

I think you are in trouble...
RomManager is maybe the source of your problems, what did you do with ?
Did you have errors during the radio installation process ? and which radio were you flashing ?
Here the story. I rooted my phone and switch to CM7 and notice that my GPS did not work with stock radio verision (dont remember wich) I upgraded to 7.08.35.21 and the GPS finally workt again with some minor interrups. Did some reading and decided to upgrade again to 7.13.35.05.
The installation went well untill the end. A picture was shown, a mailbox lookalike with an arrow pointing at a foolish looking droid dude. The only thing i could do was to remove the battery, after that the phone was dead.

me too it sucks
Is it still under warranty? (Obviously not as you're rooted, but would it be if you weren't rooted?) If so, try sending it to HTC they might just replace it if they can't see for themselves that you're rooted!
If you says its a firmware update that caused the phone to not turn on they just JTAG it without checking, reflash the latest update (and sadly HBOOT) and send it back

They will send it back unfixed and say the warranty is void. Even if they know its rooted they might still fix it for you, it depends.
It's my fault that the phone is broken and i'm willing to take that blame A clean conscience makes me sleep better at night
I dont know how it is in the rest of the world, but in my country there is a high fee if they notice that the owner has done something with the firmware etc. Thanks anyway for all the respons and help, and remember guys, stay away from Rom manager
You only have to say that it said update available then when it restarted it did this.. If they say anythign after its been sent then just plead ignorance. Its not like they cant afford to repair one phone

well i'm going to say something like that. Generally because my phone was buggered before then (signal problems and locking into airplane mode) though i'm rooted i still wouldn;t think i'd get away with it
does it matter if the root is S-ON i'm just thinking off my chances
PM sent, I can fix hard bricked Legends with JTAG.
My Grand Prime doesn't recognize any of my microSD cards (I have three that work with all my other devices except this phone). Before I accept that the connector is broken and file for a warranty replacement I want to try out a couple things.
One thing I was reading is to uninstall/install the microSD drivers from the Device Manager. However, I can't find the Device Manager...where is it located?
Another suggestions was to perform a Reset, and if that doesn't fix it, a Factory Reset. All I can find, as far as resets, is the Factory Reset. How do you perform this regular reset and what is the difference?
Then someone on Android Central said that the Android OS could be the problem. I responded to this guy letting him know the phone's running 5.1.1, but I haven't heard back from him. Is anyone familiar with this, cuz it doesn't make much sense to me.
If anyone has any other suggestions they'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Adam
God this was funny xD. There's no device manager on android. To do a factory reset, pull the battery out, put it back in and before turning it on press the Volume UP and home button and turn it on. Quit releasing the power once you see Samsung on the screen. Then using the volume keys, select Wipe Data and use the power button to confirm.

Ok, so I'm not crazy; I had never been aware of a device manager either. Is there even such thing as a sd card driver either?! Same thing with a Reset that isn't a Factory Reset..? This problem is just really pissing me off cuz I called the Metro store I bought the phone at the same day to ask if I could come back and exchange it, it's obviously a lemon, and they said no! I have to go thru the warranty. If they try n charge me any extra money for a new phone I won't be happy. I know how these companies work. They pass you off to 10 different people, with the hold time increasing each time, until you get to someone that can actually help you and cancel the made up charge. They know they're dealing with someone who's already frustrated and figure that you'll just give up and pay.
No there are no drivers in Linux/android as far as I'm aware, however there are modules that make your hardware load but that should nit be an issue. The only reset there is, is the Factory reset. Try it, if it doesnt work either, go to the store and claim your warranty!

Have you ever heard of a problem, most likely hardware related, being fixed with a Factory Reset? Also, is there an App that copies all Contacts saved to the Device into a file that fan be imported back into the phone, after the reset? The Contacts I have saved to Google are cluttered with old, outdated ones, ones of people I forge,t but might remember one day, and be happy I still have them, etc. So I just keep the Contacts I currently use on the Device to make things less complicated. Thanks.
