What about the wallpapers folder? - HD2 General

Hi!
My thought was to move the wallpapers on the device/My Documents/My Wallpapers or what ever it's called on a English device...
SO i did, moved it to the Storage Card with the same path as on my device.
Unable to find my wallpapers unless i browse on All my pictures with Album...
How stupid is this not being able to put wallpapers on Storage Card/My Documents/...
And why is my Album take for ages to update some times?
It's not fun when you should show your pictures to a friend, it almoast ends with a question: How much did you say you paid for that phone?

But you can use an image as wallpaper, regardless of where it is. Am I missing something here?
Incidentally, my albums load nice and quick every time, so I don't know what your problem might be. The thumbnails are cached first time they're seen, so they should load nice and quick every time after that (not that the 1st time is slow anyway).
If you're looking at images on the storage card, maybe the card is a bit crap/damaged.

It was i who did not explaine all that good:
No my Album almost everytime take ages to load, but i think it is when i have ended the album... anyway my thought was to have wallpapers in the same path as on the device but on the sd card, but when i want to change wallpaper it does not search for wallpapers on the sd card with the same path. And that i think is kinda stupid... all other things in my documents are a reflection of the device My Documents why not My Wallpapers or what ever it's called on English devices...
Get it now?

I totally get it now, and I totally got it then.
It does not matter where you put wallpaper. You can still browse to it and use it as wallpaper.
The browsers are set to use the device as default, which is not stupid, or clever, it's just the way it is. You can guarantee that if it worked exactly how you wanted it then someone else would be on here saying they think it should work the other way.
The advice I gave still stands. I suggest a long read of the manual, and I'm not being sarcastic or putting you down in any way.

It's a matter of different opinions here i think
And i was not putting you down neither when i wrote "Get it now" just so you know.
And you're right, everyone has it's own wantedlist and how things should work.

Don't want thumbnails?

Let's say I have a folder of images on my SD card that I don't want showing in the pictures app. Is there a way (besides chmod 000 on the folder) to make it so the images are no thumbnailed?
Yeah, sure, make jokes about adult photos being on the phone, but there is an actual use. I use my phone as a thumb drive of sorts, and I carry all my apps on it when fixing peoples computers. Having all the apps, majority of them having images in the folders, fills up the pictures app with thumbnails of things I don't want there. All I want to see are the pictures I take, or want to be there, not program icons and the like.
So, anyone got any ideas?

The best way that I know of is to rename the folder with a period in front like ".foldername" and then reboot the phone. The folder will then be hidden from the pictures app and they shouldn't show up. However some apps like 1cast load TONS of thumbnails that show up when you are trying to change your wall paper for an example and it can cause a long time to load all of the pictures depending on how much you have. Based on personal experience when setting my wallpapers with Locale, for example, I've had to wait almost 5 minutes for all of my pictures to load just so I can find the one that I want. If you find a better way, I'd like to know it.

Phone freezes when I navigate to the music tab

Hi All,
I have a new TMOUS HD2 with the stock rom. I've flashed HSPL and I've added a few tweaks such as landscae mode. Nothing too much for now.
Problem I'm having is that every time I navigate to the music player it seems to hang and I end up getting the "send to M$" notice and phone's locked up. Then I have to restart the phone again.
I have the music stored on my storage card under Music/Artist/Album/Song and I have about 4 gigs worth.
Any ideas to what this could be? Appreciate the help.

You flashed HSPL, but not a new rom?
I would start by putting just one or two mp3's on your phone's onboard storage, then pulling the card out, soft-resetting, and then seeing if your music tab finds and is able to play those couple of mp3's without locking up.
If it works fine then, you're probably experiencing the same issue many HD2 owners have been dealing with when accessing a large volume of files on the SD card. There's a number of suspected causes, mainly relating to the fact that the music (and documents) tab(s) index the whole contents of the card to find and catalog those types of files for quick use in the tabs. Therefore, a large number of files on the card seem to bog down not just those tabs but often the whole phone.
Another cause is believed to be the fact the factory card shipped with the HD2 is only a class-2 card, the slowest of all the speed ratings. If you have access to a faster card (class-4, -6, etc), even if it's a smaller size card, try that and see if it improves things any. If not, then your only other option right now is to reduce the number of files on your card until it doesn't lock up when sense tries to index it all. It's rumored that there's an update coming shortly from HTC/Tmobile, and I'm hoping that it might address this issue, but I'm not holding my breath.
I personally believe that the code used to do that indexing just isn't able to scale to the volumes of files seen now in the larger SD cards.
EDIT: Also, if you're not using it, be sure to turn off the "recent documents" tab...I don't know that it will clear up the problems with the music tab, but it can possibly help avoid lagging overall.
I can see what you mean about the indexing. Does it index each time the phone is rebooted or does it store the indexing in cache that's reused?

I honestly wish I knew
I've been trying hard to come up with a solution to this issue, and I'm afraid that's one of the unknowns that I'm struggling with...how/when exactly the process is triggered, and whether or not there's any cacheing. I suspect that it indexes (in some form anyway) much more often than every reboot, as you'll see if you delete a music file, and see how quickly the list in the music tab reflects that change.

Sirphunkee..I remember a while back when I first started reading this HD2 forum. Since before I was in the Wing Section. I read somewhere about copying a file to the startup in the windows folder. I cant remember exactly what file it was but it had to do with the music so when you woke the phone up it automatically started queing up the music that way when you went to click on the music tab it was already cached and ready to play?! I have yet to come across that thread again so that I could try it out?!

Ok cool, thank you! I hadn't heard about that one, so I'll go look for it and see if it gives me any insight. Did you have TF3D (the older version of sense) on your Wing, with a music tab? Maybe this is behavior that HTC added to sense at some point, with the same exact intent in mind...
you can disable the docindexservice perhaps it will be of some help. I don't use NRG ROM but the cook did put this cab out and you can give it a try, if it doesnt work just simply uninstall it and your settings will be back to normal
Disable Docindexer.cab

Sweet! Thanks again Jimmy...I'm gonna dig into this when I get home this evening, and poke around in the registry area it changes (HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\HTCService).
I'm curious if it just does the same thing as turning off the documents tab, or if turning off the service is a wider-reaching change. Since this is the personal handiwork of NRG, I'll ping him too, but I know he's busy.
there are a number of possibilities (though i agree its likely to be the indexing)
don't use sync to copy the music, use disk mode, or put the sd in the comp
excessively long path\filename.mp3
extended set ASCII characters in the mp3 tags,,,
i'd copy over a few dozen albums at a time, see if there's a noticeable point which problems start.
also some connected reading here

Hahaha thanks Sam...I JUST finished reading over the same thread LOL Very helpful, and it's given me some further insights into this.
toreone, the first think I noticed common to your problem and the one in the thread samsamuel posted is that your music has a rather deep file structure (4 layers deep). I haven't seen anybody mention that in the troubleshooting, so it might be worth seeing if the same volume of music, but no more than 2 folders deep, still gives the same issue.
Also, in that thread, sammybusse made and posted the cab below, which makes simple registry change related to chacheing: HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory\FATFS
EnableChache 1 (changed from 0 to 1). So, perhaps the problem stems from the fact that it wasn't chacheing, rather than doing it too aggressively..
I haven't had a chance yet to poke around with it, but I think it's certainly safe enough to try and see if it makes any difference for you (it helped some people in that thread).
Another solution tried there, that had some level of success, was making sure you don't have any of the mp3's set as "read only"

Here it is:
Go to your Windows folder and find the file "AudioManager_Eng.exe" Create a shortcut (.lnk file) of this file and put it in your Windows\StartUp folder.

Try to sync your music with Windows Media Player. This worked for me.

Nibbley, when I did this, for some reason the file would only be renamed as AudioManager_Eng.lnk.exe. And once you do it, you can't seem to delete the file. Just a heads up.
do you have a more detailed way for doing this?

Wallpaper

I have searched, and searched, and searched. Is it possible to change the wallpaper on Android on HD2? I'm using darkstones froyo most recent, and the 7/23 zimg. Everytime i search it always comes up with the obvious, press and hold home, tap wallpapers, etc... but i've copied pictures to my phone, put it in every folder and they never show up. Even when i use a file manager to find my pictures, they show up, but when i tap them. it's just a black screen. Is this one of the bugs/kinks? If so i'd like to know so i can stop fiddling with it...they are .jpg
Thanks in advance
(now watch, someone is gonna search and get it first result)
when the wallpaper app cant find the pictures I want to use I apply them using astro file manager.
If your transferring pictures while in Android' they wont work - while USB mode appears to be working i don't think it can write data to your card correctly so effectively your getting corrupt images.
If you transfer them in Windows before booting into Android you'll have more luck.
Also there's a decent Wallpaper app on the market called Zedge which allows you to download and apply wallpaper direct from the app - highly reccomended.
I got it. Close the thread.
Apparently, all the pictures i uploaded, all transfered over, but they all showed up as 0 bytes, deleted, re-uploaded. Worked. Sorry for the waste of space, shoulda caught it before.
Edit, actually before I go, does anyone know the resolution? 600x800? :x
The best resolution is 960x800
Cheers
Paul

[Q] Gallery

I'm currently experiencing a very annoying problem with the gallery. When I press on Gallery, it takes a very long time before it loads the pictures. Same deal after taking a picture, if I want to view it, it takes me to a black screen, but if I wait for like 5 minutes, I can view all the pictures on my Camera folder. This is very annoying. Where in the SD am I supposed to place my pictures?
Bump, hope someone can help.

Installed it, doesn't help for me.
Hmmm...i tk it u tried all four possible changes while rebooting each time to see if it worked?...Unless u have a ton of pictures on ur card then maybe u should consider getting a higher class SD card then...
Try QuickPic from market, its for free.
Its better than the stock gallery:
- faster
- you can exclude or even hide folders beeing showed
- ...
Yes very true use QuickPic. Much better than stock.
ok, none of the answers listed above worked for me. nothing against the posters. I was having the same problem with my hd2 running android. I just read an article and it said to create a ".nomedia" file (in notepad on your pc) and transfer it into the folder you don't want shown. NOTE: if you do a search for ".nomedia" there might be one already created in another file. You can cut and paste it if you don't feel like making one).
My gallery ALWAYS crashed when I tried to add .gifs to an mms. I would be able to scroll once and then the gallery would get stuck and force close. Since I added the .nomedia file to the .thumbnails file in dcim (where there were 2,550 thumbnails) I can at least scroll through the full gallery WITHOUT a gallery force close. Again, it is not perfect or extremely fast, but it is now functional. Hope this helps someone else.
try a faster sd card
and OP please dont bump your posts after 1 hour or so of posting
I would also say: try a faster card - seems there is the problem - although the gallery appears quite often slow, when it is loaded for the first time and full with pictures from the pc.

Newbish question involving wallpaper directories

I've tried searching for this, but mainly come against various versions of "how do I set a wallpaper?" To avoid confusion, I'll just explain the situation.
A friend set an image from the Facebook app as my wallpaper. I like the photo, but just not as my wallpaper, so I wanted to copy and repurpose it. The issue is that I don't know where the image is saved.
I did find one page saying it was somewhere in /data, but that directory is empty for me, so I'm guessing that Samsung (stock EC05 rom) is using a different directory for saved background images. Any ideas where that might be?
i don't think it saves to the phone if you just set as wallpaper, it has to be downloaded..it kind of just copied it and pasted it to your background

You mean like saved in a clipboard? That seems unlikely since user wallpapers are persistent if you turn the phone off and back on, but then again I'm not too familiar with Android to know that it wouldn't do that. I'm still thinking it has to save somewhere ...

i duplicated exactly what you did, i set a pic from my facebook app as wallpaper instead of downloading and copied the image name so i could try and find it easier.. by using root explorer it searched every directory for that image coming up with 0 results, even tho its set as my wallpaper. i then took an image from my sd card and placed it in a data folder and it still appeared in my gallery. so if it is indeed in your phone you would still see it in gallery no matter the directory unless it is in a zipped folder which a pic from facebook wouldn't be... if you want to store that pic on your phone go to the facebook website in browser and make sure you download pic instead of set as wallpaper lol let me know if any of that confused you lol
No, I understood perfectly, thanks for looking into it! I don't even have a facebook account, my girlfriend was using my phone, but the picture itself is VGA resolution (or worse) scaled to fit, and makes a horrible background for an 800 verticle height.
