I have decided to offer 3 free codes weekly to xda members.
All you need to do is make a post in this section and PM me your IMEI no.
I will be very strict with the 3 code policy, please do not flood my PM Inbox with your IMEI's after the 3 free codes for the week is over.
Rules :
1. Post a message saying PM sent with the IMEI.
2. Code will be calculated and sent back by PM.
3. I will say closed for the week once 3 codes have been given out.
4. If you need the codes urgently, you can PM me and buy the code anytime.
5. Anyone who violates the rules, will not get the code.
6. 1 IMEI per person.
Please adhere to the rules strictly.
For those who want the code instantly ie the ones who are not able to get the free code, you have to use this software :
Unlock Code Client

Wow, that's insane.... very cool on Google, HTC, and T-Mobile's part to sell it that way.
We have a TMO subsidized phone and a no plan one.. BOTH are unlocked...
If we forfeit on the TMO subsidized phone - we get to pay the subsidy back - meaning nothing to lose by TMO and Google to just plain unlock the phones from the get go.
Malicious?
Yeah... I wouldn't PM this guy anything. They are already unlocked, and he's asking for IMEIs... gonna have to call phishing on this one. This thread should be locked and possibly deleted.

This thread is for harvesting IMEIs. Letting people know about it is pretty necessary.
Besides, even if you are a legitimate service, this would at the least be considered an advertising thread, and should be locked/deleted.

Alas, the question that is asked by many... finally answered.
People, please do NOT give in to scams such as these.
You can unlock your phone, for FREE by calling T-Mobile.
Dial in 611 and when prompted say "representative".
You will be prompted for the standard account authorization (last 4 digits of the primary account holders social), then be transfered to an eagerly awaiting T-Mobile customer representative, who will be more than willing to hand over an unlock code for you.
That's it. It's that simple.
As for unlocking in foreign countries, I'm not sure how that would work out for you guys. Get in contact with a T-Mobile customer in good standing, and I'm sure he can unlock it for you with no problems

Lol. Or yu could just flash jf's rc30.
Btw. One of the criteria for calling tmoh is that you have to have been with them for 3 months.
so i can call the # say representative my last 3 #s of my s.s.# and do i have to ask for 1 or do they just say it?

jf rc30 is not for sim unlocking which is using the g1 on other networks like att. etc..
To get an unlock code call 611 then ask for representative they will ask for the last 4 # on your ss thats is on file for that account. Then they will ask you why you want to unlock it just tell them your going out of county and you would like to use your phone there.
They will put the order in and it will take 24hr-14day because they submit it to htc.
They will need the imei of your g1 go get that number dail #06#
Thats what i did and i got my code in 2days free of charge.

i rang up t-mobile (UK) and they said they charge £15 to have it unlocked!
Also when calling in to tmo for your free sim unlock code make sure your bill is paid up to date.
It's not a scam if you're not a t-mobile costumer. I don't understand why this keeps coming up. T-mobile won't just send me a free code since I'm on ATT.
T-Mobile has to send you a code, try calling 1-877-453-1304.
oops! double post- browser issues....
so t-mobile HAVE to provide you with an unlock code if you ring them? What about if you aren't a customer and bought the phone off ebay? Can you get a friend with a t-mobile contract to ring?
u know u dont have to think about this if u buy one in Vietnam? I got mine for $464 with unlock code provided right at the couter desk. Errrhh... Do i miss something?

I think there is a US law that's come into affect that all Carriers must allow customers to unlock there phone free of charge.
In the UK though carriers are allowed to charge and will.
If it is a UK phone then they don't need to give it free.. but if it is a US Phone you can call the US number or email them and get a free unlock code.

USA has a new law that requires all cellphone providers to unlock your phone (free of charge). It's your legal right to unlock your phone, in the United States.
UK may be different, and like I said, you may need to check with your local policies.

Legally, if you are a T-Mobile customer for 3 months (or just a customer in good standing), you have the right to unlock ANY (T-Mobile) phone you'd like.
Regardless how you got your hands on it, as long as it isn't stolen, you are guaranteed an unlock code.
This article explains a little more about unlocking laws. (It speaks mainly about the legality of unlocking, but is aimed at the iPhone)

Not true. T-Mobile has to unlock it. It is the law by the FCC that any phone you buy can and must be unlocked by the original company on request.
Hey guys, I've just bought HD2 from TMO and I want to use it outside the US. I've searched for posts regarding this but haven't find the answer. Is there any software to download to unlock it? or is it just the code method?
thanks a lot
You know what this question might just get you flamed.
Get a code from T-Mobile to SIM unlock ... Call T-Mobile customer care and send ur proof of receipt thru Fax.. they will send you the code to your email address. (I got mine in 5 hrs) TMO guys are very friendly and they will surely help you.

Still u can try calling toll free number which works from outside US

go to theunlockr.com and they will unlock your phone...for a price.
you can also get unlock code on eBay.com
Just call Tmo and tell them you are traveling and you will like to get your phone unlock and the will ask you some basic questions about the phone ie (IMEI #) and withing 72hrs you will have the unlock code. but if you feel like wasting money you can go to theunlockr1com (remove the 1 and place a .) and then click on the link for unlocking your phone. I logged in today and was surprised to see these three new threads about this already well known topic. So I'm going to try to put an end to this by merging all of the "Help me unlock my MyTouch" topics into this one thread and stickie it so that I can just move future posts directly to the trash. So be warned, any future posts regarding SIM unlocking WILL be removed!
The very first rule of the XDA-Developers forum is to search before posting.
So I figure that if this is stickied then there really isn't any excuse whatsoever.
While I'm doing all of this I want to clearify something for all of those that are interested in unlocking their MyTouch.
Currently (as of July 2010) there is no solution for unlocking your MyTouch without first acquiring the Subsidy key for your device.
There are no hardware hacks, software installations or anything like that.
You really only have four options.
Contact your carrier and request it. Most carriers have minimum requirements to be met before requesting. Check with your carrier for additional information.
Use of third party services (go ahead post your success in this thread).
Use of an overlay card. (I have not personally verified this method)
Purchase the device already unlocked.
If you have a successful result then post it in this thread and I'll update this post accordingly.
Please note that myself, other members or the XDA-Developers do not take responsiblity for failed efforts, damage to your device, money wasted or anything else that might make you upset.
Any new posts regarding anything already discussed in this topic will be subject to deletion without warning!
As stated above, I merged three three new topics and moved them to this thread.

Is this true? did non of the forum members das an answer?
and if so, What is the most reliable site for this ?

You could use something like a TurboSIM. It's a small film-like device that goes between the SIM card and the reader in your phone, forcing your phone to accept it. I don't know if all/any work on android/sapphire so you'd need to get a second opinion before ordering.
The only HTC Sapphires that come unlocked are the 'Google ION'/ADP2 devices, so yes you'll need to buy an unlock code. If you've been with tmo for more than 3 months phone them and say you're going out of the country, they should give you the code. If you're looking for a reputable company for unlock codes, go on eBay, that way you know the testimonials and feedback is real.
I've used SIM unlock services from ebay. Cost about $10 and was fairly painless. Had to try a few different sellers since the others couldn't find the code. HTC master key had to be used in order to get the code for mine, that's why they charged $10 instead of the usual $2-3.
Even at $10, I found it to be a lot cheaper and effective than other website prices.

3G will probably not work for another carrier if that's what you're asking.
If you are no longer a T-Mo subscriber then they will probably not give you the key.
You submit the imei to the unlock service (carrier or whoever) and they use that to look up your devices specific unlock key. Takes anywhere from a few minutes to a few days to get it though.
thanks for the info. sucks that i cant get the code from tmo. i should of gotten it before i told them to cancel my service. ill probably just use this phone for backup or something. i dont feel like i want to part with my first android device lol
root / upgrade locks me back?
I have an HTC Magic from Rogers Canada that I got unlocked as soon as I bought it. I need it unlocked since I am living over 5000 miles away from Canada. Everything is all well and nice now, working on the local carrier 3g and all.
I have been considering rooting the phone or maybe installing an unofficial ROM for a while now, but I never ended up doing it for fear my phone might get locked back to Rogers, rendering it useless for me.
What are the risks of this actually happening? Is the phone unlock a permanent operation, or are there any.types of upgrade or root that could bring the lock back?
Thanks!

Once you unlock the phone for other carriers it stays unlocked regardless of rom.
LOL
Anyway, There was a reason for my posting.
I ended up getting the unlock code from T-mobile and it is the exact number that I got from the unlocking service which did not work in the first place.
So I am wondering if the problem now lies in the fact that I rooted the phone and installed 3rd party rom before I unlocked the phone.

I can only agree. I don't see how that would be possible since the subsidy has nothing to do with the type of spl, radio version or rom.

Success!!
Website: www.unlock2go.com
Cost: $20 USD
Delivery time: instant (even on a Saturday evening at 8:30pm)
Important note: I selected "T-Mobile" as the carrier, and then MyTouch 3G as the manufacturer, NOT HTC. Not sure if this matters, but thought I'd pass along that info.
Good luck!
Edit: So far we have 2 confirmed success cases. Anyone else that uses it please post up - would be nice to confirm reliability for everyone.
Hey Thanks for the site I used them and received the code less than thirty mins
I can also confirm unlock2go.com works! for Mytouch 3g
Sent them my payment 19-08-2010 at 11:40 pm EST and got the code by 11:50 pm !!!! all I can say is wow, it now recognizes my SIM in Colombia.
Tip: I used promo code unlock30 and got $2 off (paid $18).
Help! now that the phone is unlocked I'm stuck because I've got no data plan, and I can't find the way to go to Wifi, or even make a regular call. All the guides I find assume the phone is already working, but my menu, or home keys don't do nothing I get back to the green robot screen.

I love a free unlock code, but I'm in Canada
I'm confused, what do you mean you are in canada, why should that matter. I don't see why t-mobile wouldn't give its canada customers free unlock codes. Unless you meant, you are visiting canada, and need an unlock code ASAP.
by the way, if you crossed borders, you better turn your data off, otherwise expect to see a huge huge huge huge data roaming bill
Search this forum for free unlock code. Get the code & follow instructions to input code while your sim is in phone. Type in numbers wait until screen pops up to input mcc & mcn. Type the ones that fit your carrier then input code & the phone will be locked to your carrier. Turn phone off & on & should work.

hello there people im here to lighten youre day ... well to the case... i just spent the last 6 hours trying to find out how to sim unlock my phone i did all the root and unlocking processes but havent had a result because rooting and unlocking the bootloader are DIFFERENT than SIM-UNLOCKING the phone (just to make things clear) ... but through deep investigation i got interesting information about people telling that AT&T supplies the code for FREE just asking for it... so i called this number: 1-877-737-2478 and called first it was a women that didnt really helped and just closed on me, i called again then a guy atended me first asking about the AT&T number which i DONT have so i just told him i needed some information about free unlock codes of the motorola ATRIX 4G and he kindly took my IMEI and gave me the code TOTALLY FREE so there it is... here are the steps to SIM-UNLOCK youre MOTOROLA ATRIX 4G FOR FREE!!!!!.
1-IMEI of youre MOTOROLA ATRIX 4G
2- call costumer support of AT&T 1-877-737-2478 the option you will need is "0"
3- just ask about the free unlock codes they are giving for the phone
4- wait a couple of minutes.
5- if they give you the code enter it in youre phone
6- cross youre fingers
7- dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in case they wont help you i guess you just have to call back i guess they have like more than 100+ employees so youre bound to bump with someone who is willing to give it to you... you DONT need to be an AT&T exclusive customer just ask kindly what you need and theyl help you .
ENJOY!!!! please like this post and sticky it since its my first real usefull post here at XDA.
PS: I dont know if this post is already made but i checked more than 20 post people asking questions so ths thread is more of a solution sorry if i broke a law or something just mail me if i need to mod something cheers... and enjoy youre phone!!!!!
PS: PS for you who are asking i live in DOMINICAN REPUBLIC and my SIM carrier is CLARO RD and i called from skype to have no cost at all so i guess there are no restrictions when it comes to unlocking youre phone .
this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179863 includes all the information you need to get your unlock code from AT&T...

Yep, this info is nothing new. I don't know about ATT, but this same method didn't help me with my Verizon Droid 2 Global.
I called three times and all of those times they told me I need to be a Verizon customer.
Besides, they have CRM to store customer contacts in the database. If you try to contact them too many times it will show up on their records and they might think you are pulling some kind of a scam.
worked like a charm. was on the phone less than 5 minutes
I just called AT&T in the US and told them I was visiting another country for a few days. If you're a customer in good standing (no unpaid bills), they'll unlock the phone for you.
Still Works, Different Phone Number
I called the phone number that is posted on the original message, and I was told to call customer service.
1-800-331-0500
From there I put in my phone number and option 0 until I talked to someone.
I was given the unlocking code without any problem and was even told the AT&T website to deal with my wife's IPhone

hello there people im here to lighten youre day ... well to the case... i just spent the last 6 hours trying to find out how to sim unlock my phone i did all the root and unlocking processes but havent had a result because rooting and unlocking the bootloader are DIFFERENT than SIM-UNLOCKING the phone (just to make things clear) ... but through deep investigation i got interesting information about people telling that AT&T supplies the code for FREE just asking for it... so i called this number: 1-877-737-2478 and called first it was a women that didnt really helped and just closed on me, i called again then a guy atended me first asking about the AT&T number which i DONT have so i just told him i needed some information about free unlock codes of the motorola ATRIX 4G and he kindly took my IMEI and gave me the code TOTALLY FREE so there it is... here are the steps to SIM-UNLOCK youre MOTOROLA ATRIX 4G FOR FREE!!!!!.

This does not work anymore. AT&T changed and restricted their unlock procedure A LOT. See here.
Update on At&t
At&t will no longer provide the unlock code unless you are a current or former At&t customer in good standing, pledge them your first born yadayadayada. They have previously unlocked devices for me, but even tech support isn't allowed to do it anymore. They will send you to the "unlock request" page.
Um, duh...

It also differs from customer rep to customer rep
Some will charge you 50 USD to unlock your phone while others tell you to be on their contract for 90 days+
I got fed up with that so I just bought a sim unlocking code from cellphoneunlock and just got it unlocked
Screw AT&T
