Have you sent it back for repair? - HD2 General

So how many of you have had a problem that warrants sending the HD2 unit back?

My HD2 died. Completely died. Wouldn't charge or power up. 3 days short to its first month of service too.

Yup about to return mine tomorrow for a new device, I've tried to carry on using this unit, but I am convinved it has a faulty screen sensor.
I get the screen jitter, ghost inputs on touch screen. I could live with those issues if the keyboard wasn't affected, but when the screen sensor has a fit and goes crazy when you have the keyboard active, it starts typing letters no where near where my fingers were, making typing almost impossible.
very frustrating, and I've finally had enough, I love the HD2, I really do, but I want it to work as it should..
So returning it to HTC for a new one asap.

White screen - is my Wizard dead.

my first for ages.
I recently purchased a wizard which looks to be virtually brand new.
now the other day I updated it the the o2 uk latest rom as it was running a really old rom.
and it has been running perfectly, i have not looked into running any other rom or performance upgrades etc.
now I was using the device in landscape and after closing the unit my screen went bright white and my pride and joy is now not usable.
I can still acept calls, the touch screen still works but the screen is pure white.
Ive contact a few places and they all say the screen has died and needs replacing
Does this sound right.
its a £80 fix if this is right. im so gutted.
any advice is great before i pack it up and send it off.
anyone please....
Can you put it into bootloader mode? If not i would say you have a loose connection on the screen to the mainboard i had the same problem with my old phone the screen disconnected for the main board so no display! If you cant get it replaced take it apart and carefully check the connections if still doesnt work i would try another screen or buy one.
even when i reset it, it stays whits so cant see anyhting on screen,
ive had someone take it apart and re-seat the cables and still just a white screen
so im off to purchase another one in hope this is all thats gone
as your phone is booting up press and hold the camera button, is the screen still white?
cant tell now. ive sent if off for repair.
Im gutted.

I had a similar issue, the keyboard sliding in and out must have worn out the switch that detects when it is open/closed. I had had my wizard a year and the screen started flickering, i dealt with it for a while, then the scree was stuck blank white unless if i pressed on the area of the phone that had the contact.
I had to send it back and got a refurb.
sounds like thats what happened to you too. Hopefully when you get it back it will be good as new
ive sent mine for a screen replacement tho not a repair.
now im worrying that its gonna come back in the same state.
Gulp
got my wizard back after having the screen replaced.
2 days later when ever i touch the bottom of the screen with pen, finger or even breath on it.
the screen goes off and the phone locks up and dies.
I have to take battery out and restart it and it then works great till i touch the bottom again.
Sound like a dodgy screen or something else.
Seems like a flexi strip(The one conecying the display to the mother board) sometimes if the strip develops a tear or is not properly connected this issue usually happens.
the shop doing the repair have said there is the following issues
1- padding issue on the screen (either too much or not enough)
2- Problems with the main board. (something on there is failling, hardware wise)
How the hell could this be happening on a device that was working perfectly
apart from the screen had died.
have they done more damage attempting the repair... I think so .!
I had the white screen 6 months ago. Luckily still under warranty period so got it repaired. It was the flexo-cable. since the fix no problem so far despites using the phone (also in landscape mode) daily.
when i got it back after the screen was replaced my xda worked great but as stated as soon as some preasure was applied to the bottom of the screen it would just die there and then.
I would have to take the battery out and then it would power on as normal
but again if i put presure on the bottom of the screen.. bang DEAD !
so sent it back to them and they told me what I stated above !
now waiting 2wks to hear what they are gonna do about it
not a happy bunny
still nothing back from the company thats doing the repair.
i dont know why they do this.
Im now thinking of getting my Xda back, selling it either on here or ebay and purchasing a new one.
Should i quit now or wait out for the miracle that they fix it completly.
Anyone in the uk reconmend a good repair company please im pulling my hair out.

Anyone returned HD2 to HTC with screen issues?

I remember reading a thread about this back when the HD2 was released, but I haven't really thought about it until now.
Since I bought it on the release date, I've been having problems typing on my HD2. The keyboard seems over sensitive and not accurate. When I press one letter, I genereally get the one next to it. When I try and delete the accidental character, I end up typing a heap of L's, M's and P's!
If I do the screen re-alignment it seems to be better for a while, but then after a reboot (which you need to do every couple of days with WinMo!) it goes bad again.
I hate texting now and entering passwords is impossible! I've got to the point where sometimes I want to throw the damn thing away.
I've had 2 iPhones, and HTC Touch Diamond and Touch HD previously so I know its not me. If I try my father-in-laws HD2, I can work it no problem.
I contacted HTC who told me to try a Hard Reset - but as I flash ROMS frequently I know this isn't going to make a difference. They said to contact them if the Hard Reset doesnt work and send the phone in for repair.
Obviously I'll need to reflash a stock ROM first!
Has anyone sent their phone back and what happened? Did it get fixed, and how long does it take?

i have the shaking screen issue when zooming and i cannot detect if it is hardware issue or software or it is normal
Search for "weird touchscreen behaviour".
If you send it back to HTC they'll change the screen and it will come back fixed, or they'll do something random and it won't.
I don't think its just you, I have similar issues! I'm learning to type slower, and there are some links in the tips & hints thread that may help.
I reflashed back to the stock ROM and surprise surprise, same problem.
I emailed HTC back who then said it would have to come back for repair.
They said to phone them to arrange, so its all set up - being collected by UPS tomorrow. Hopefully it will all get sorted.
On another note - I'm now using an old Nokia 3600 Slide while my HD2 is all packed up. I'm loving having an old keypad again! Texting is a delight again, and the small form factor of this phone is great. Its a shame the screen is tiny and the Opera Mini functionality is poop!!
If HTC did a modern version of the Touch Dual with a big touch screen and a slide out keyboard then I'd buy one in a flash! Maybe I'll get a Touch Pro 3 when it comes out
did you try this?? it works for me.Hope it helps

I have been using that - or a similar one - for the last few months, which helps a bit. The problem isn't the sensitivity though, its the accuracy of the screen. When I press 'P' I get 'O', or 'R' I get 'E'. Its like its not quite lined up correctly.
hmm... I had exactly the same problem, but just because screen was too sensitive and this cab helped. Have you also tried align screen??
If this one won`t help I think your fingers are too big (sorry, joke)

all my friends iphones have this issue but less than hd2 i think it is capastive screen issue
Sent mine back to O2, not HTC. I was getting light blotches on the screen in various places, they were very prominent when displaying light colours and they were getting gradually worse. Got it back yesterday and it looks brand new.
Did you flash the phone back to stock at all?
Yes, you need to remove the HSPL and that can only be done by flashing a stock rom from the memory stick - USB flashes the stock rom but leaves the HSPL intact. If you don't they will send it back to you saying the warranty is void. As well as replacing my screen they upgraded the stock O2 rom I had on it so they obviously check the software even if it's a hardware issue you have sent it back for. It goes without saying the first thing I did when I opened the box was replace the HSPL and flash Xannytech's Evolution.
I know to get rid of it, was just wondering if you did
Touch wood never had to send mine back but at least they can't tell you've HSPL'd it in the past...

You had a different kind of issue, should know if someone with shaking/poor accurancy screen has sent his phone back
Well folks... my phone was picked up last week by UPS and returned to me today.
Before sending it off I reflashed the stock ROM and got rid of HSPL.
I've tested it a bit and am very happy - so I'm now flashing my Miri ROM back on as I type! HTC have replaced 'LCM (LCD)' and replaced 'Rigid-Flex Board (FPC Board)' as their diagnostic stated 'Touch Panel function abnormally and Camera Flash Malfunction'.
Typing feels like it should as the key I hit is now the one that actually presses. I don't know about the camera as I haven't tried it yet - but I didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
My only complaint is that the phone went in for repair with an HTC Screen Protector fitted, and they must've removed and refitted it - as its full of bubbles and knackered! Never mind - I'll order another one.
If anyone has the problems I described... contact HTC and get it sorted, as this is like using a new phone. Hopefully I won't feel the need to throw it again!
I'm mightily pissed off as I have just had to return my Leo back for the 2nd time with exactly the same problem as I had previously (see above). HTC and their crappy cheap LCDs must be costing them a lot of money.
I've been experiencing almost all the bugs in my HD2, last month i sent it back to HTC for repair.
They changed the touchscreen and display because they thought it wasn't bright enough (i didn't notice that).
I got it back a week ago and immediately saw that i now have a different touchscreen, more dots and diagonal lines can be seen.
All the problems are gone and i haven't been experiencing any problems the last week.
My Advise for people with touchscreen problems, have your touchscreen replaced !

i had the white blotches issue too and htc also replaced my screen under warranty (turnaround 11 calendar days) and paid carriage both ways; this despite my lacking a sales invoice, having bought the phone used on ebay and the moisture tab being tripped (which they also replaced).
a very good service from htc only slightly spoiled by the tech who reassembled my phone leaving a fingerprint on the *inside* of the camera lens cover glass which rather than sending it back to them again, i cleaned off myself by means of unscrewing the back panel.

hero touch screen unresponsive

hey guys, i have started experiencing weird issue with my hero since last week (bought it last december). the sense ui behaves weirdly and when moving across scenes its getting unpredictable with the touch response. if i go back to my home screen, it still feels am trying to oscillate between multiple screens.
on top of it, using smart dial has become a pain with its unpredictable behavior.
Though factory reset would help but now the touch is unresponsive that i couldnt sign in to my google account as keypad doesnt recognise my entry.
any one experiencing this issue? on top of not getting androind 2.1 this has been a real bad week.
any help is much appreciated.
cheers.
Go into the recovery menu and do whatever thar? I'm not sure this will help as capacitive screens seem quite failsafe, contact orange/insurance

Yeah I have the same problem, and factory reset doesn't help...
I'm gonna go to the Sprint store, and you should contact your carrier support. This problem is caused by device overheating, which damages the inner LCD screen. This screen makes the outer glass or reinforced plastic screen responsive.
It's free to fix with insurance, and $100 without. Of course, there is the chance that your carrier could be nice to you and replace it for free...
similar problems on my end too! gonna go to sprint soon
I have had this problem with my HTC hero on T-Mobile here in the UK earlier this year. Took the phone back to T-Mobile and they sent it off to HTC. After almost a month without my HTC I started to get annoyed. Eventually I got the phone back and was told that the main circuit board had been replaced.
The phone's been ok for about three months and now it's started again but appears that it's only the bottom part of the screen thats affected, where the three touch screen buttons are.
The phones going back again today but interestingly I worked out that it only seems to do it when the phone has been in my pocket and has got warm. The effect is that I can't press the touchscreen 'Phone' button or any of the buttons at either side of it but if i press any of the icons above them the phone button will be activated. (wierd!).
Now here's the thing, if I leave the phone on a flat surface in a cool air flow for a few minutes then everything goes back to normal. Which leads me to think that the problem is temperature related.
Regards
Quite strange, mine has started doing that too. Only when its warm though... Lol.
HTC has confermed to me that many Hero's have a bad touchscreen.
They will repair free under waranty.

[Q] Samsung Vibrant Home button?

The home button on my Samsung Vibrant seems to stop working at times.
Sometimes it works when the light turns on, at other times it only responds with the light off.
Then sometimes it works normally, and sometimes it doesn't respond at all.
Everything else seems to be working fine; no blue screen tint, GPS is ok, not phenomenal, but this is frustrating, when the home button does not operate as it should.
Is it worth it to go and return it for an exchange, as I am still within the 14 day window?
Or should I just keep it and go with what I have?
If you feel that the device is honestly defective, then yes, exchange it =P

My worry is that I'll get a even more defective device, than what I have now.
Everything else seems to work fine though...
It's just that if the home button is acting like this now, I wonder how it'll be like 6 months from now.
Whats the point of the poll?
Anyway, do you have a screen protector on the phone covering the touch keys? I have heard some screen protectors reduce the sensitivity. If you are within your return period might as well exchange it to get a fully functional device.

zagg made mine not very responsive. I took that crap off and they work like they should. Hell, the screen is scratch resistant ( not proof) so just be carefull and you can feel the real screen and looks better too....
Screw protector on capacitive buttons...
What terrible build quality, to make screen protectors lower sensitivity so much that people notice.
Anyway, I had my first otherwise-perfect-Vibrant replaced cause the settings key stopped working properly. I noticed on my third (!) Vibrant the touchkeys become a tad bit more unresponsive after applying my InvisibleShield but it is still usable.
I had the same problem with the second Vibrant I had. The problem would get progressively worse until it would not work at all. Hitting the power button and then waking the phone again seemed to "reset" the process, but the problem was still there. I returned it for a new phone with no problems. I would recommend the same for you.
I had a problem with home button, with and without screen protector. Replacement unit is working well. With Realook sp, it works well. Not as responsive as bareback, but definitely not noticeable enough to be an issue. Get a replacement unit asap.
yeah, i'm noticing i have the same problem and also it does seem to get better with a reset. or leave the phone a while and then pick it up 15 minutes later and it's fine... like something running in the background causing THAT button to be laggy, but the back button works fine always. no screen protector on mine. is Tmo giving out refurbs yet or will i get a NEW unit? Go into the store or do i have to call 611?
I think that the exchange is worth it, I did that in my 14 day period too. I exchanged because of the trim squeaking and I'm glad I did because it's nice to have stock phone over.
There is already a 9 page topic discussing this issue.
I had this issue on my first Vibrant, except it was the Menu capacitive button that starting getting unresponsive. It eventually got to the point that I had to physically tap on it with some force to get it to respond. Since I had the blue screen tint issue on that one as well I had it replaced. My second Vibrant has great capacitive buttons and perfect screen tint. It was a little flakey at first, but since I re-flashed the stock firmware it seems perfect now.

The capacitive buttons unresponsive issue? Yes, there is a thread on that but it might be difficult to find in a search because the title says menu button. Maybe the title can be changed for easier searching?
To the OP: I had this problem on Vibrant #3 and I exchanged it. It seems to be a hardware problem or at least a problem that won't get any better with time. I had the TMo rep check for this issue on the new phone before he completed the exchange. The first new one he brought out of the stock room had a similar problem right out of the box. It had the same ship date (7/10 I believe) as the one I was exchanging. The replacement phone hasn't really shown any problems.

Weird screen issue

Hi,
I've read on here about people having their screens on their HD2 die however I have a weird situation with mine. One day end of last week my battery dropped below 10% while doing alot of messaging and as soon as I received the low battery warning my screen would not respond whatsoever. I got home later and plugged it into the charger and it came back to life but not 100% perfect it would work but irratically where I'd select something but another area of the screen would be selected and so on until I turned the screen off and on again. Once I did this it worked fine for a little while then repeated the process.
Here's the weird thing after some time today it decided to die on me completely where it responded to nothing so me getting frustrated I started holding down the hard buttons and swiping away with fury and the screen responded. I've now worked out through process of elimination that while holding the back button the screen will work fine but as soon as I take my finger off it stops. Has anyone ever witnessed this before? Is it definitely a duff screen that's just given up over time? I'm still within my 18 month contract so can phone up O2 and get them to repair it if it's a hardware fault that they don't put down to wear and tear.
Thanks
Sounds like hou might want to send it in for repairs as it might be the digitizer going out.
Cool thanks for the quick response, I've contacted O2 and hopefully won't take them long to get back to me.
