Unlocking, etc. - XV6700, PPC-6700 General

Hi Folks:
I'm playing with an Apache, stock-Sprint variety. I check in here, and don't see much regarding how to unlock, flash, getting into bootloader, etc.
I'm a total newbie with this phone, but have experience with the 6800, TP, and TP2, so I have a fairly good base for this.
If someone could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it!
TIA,
NLogN

V1605

Hi guys
I would like to know how to access vodafone live on the v1605. I know the device does not support it, but there is a way around it.
I am not well versed in the techno babble so if someone could explain to me in laymans terms that would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Thanks to our cookers, plus a bit of personal history

My company got 800 of these little gems from Vodafone, and loaded up some software from Broadbeam (now MobileAware) that is supposed to let us stay in contact with our offices no matter where we are on the planet.
It was a good idea, but was implemented poorly: roaming coverage had/has huge holes, and the little bricks were beyond the mental capabilities of many they were issued to. Some of those guys need directions operating a light switch, so you can imagine what they are like with a PDA.
Anyway, while on a 3 day layover in Melbourne in March, sitting in sight of a cell tower, I couldn't connect. That's when I discovered XDA Developers.
I spent 2 days reading, and reading, heeding Pof's advice, and finally got the nerve to flash a radio rom, going from 1.03 to 1.27. And I connected right away.
After that, I became a frequent flasher right away. It just gets simpler all the time, thanks to some hard work by the guys cooking roms (Dutty, jasjamming, Des and others), and people like Pof and MrVanx who put together excellent guides. I flashed some of the early versions of WM6, but they didn't work with our company software, so I learned how to downgrade. It wasn't always easy, some times the Hermes would freeze, but it was remedied by reading some more, and reflashing the Radio Rom.
And finally, jasjamming got Black 3.01 out, and for me, it worked like a charm. Quick as a fox, and even ran the lame company wares.
And yet, with all the reading I was doing, and seeing all the admonitions by the moderators to other noobies like me, some people just seem to want someone else to fix their little issues. Sending messages to the guys cooking ROMs, asking questions like "why doesn't my girflriend answer on the first ring since I flashed", or "Why is my battery life so bad when I have the phone, wifi, and bluetooth on"? There are places here in XDA Developers for questions like that, if you really feel you must ask. It's just not in with all the cutting edge discussions.
So, one of the best cookers has been driven away, and its a damn shame. I'm sincerely hoping that this forum and wiki will be a source of solutions and new programs for a very long time.
jasjamming, I'm scheduled to be back in in Melbourne for 3 days around the 23rd. If you see this, it would be my great pleasure to buy you all the Crown Lager you can handle. It would my way of thanking you and by proxy, all the others who have done so much work.
I'd like to also reiterate what GreatGrey has said. Many thanks to all the cookers and experts on here. I know I haven't really posted anything on here before, but that's because I never felt I had anything of value to write. However I have spent many an hour, reading and digesting the information on here, and thanks to the information on here, i have been able to make the most out of my jasjam. (and it's good to know that one of the great cookers was from Melbourne - best city in Australia - OK, maybe i'm a little biased on that comment )
What a great thread
It is a shame to see where things are heading, and I admit, despite trying other ROMs, that I end up defaulting to JJ's Black ROMs because he's a local boy (i too am from Melbourne) and his support for the Telstra network is a welcome addition.
To echo above, I havn't posted that much either, but I am the type to "read lots, speak once"
So, for what its worth, thanks for what you have given us so far JJ, the courage, the roms and the fantastic attitude

HSPL and ROM virgin no longer

Everytime I google anything regarding my HD2 it brings me to this forum, which I know is predominantly for developers, but says a lot about the genuine customer service teams, whether it be manufacturers or service providers. So thanks!
I don't understand most of the processes or jargon used here, but got some good guidance from Wacky Bannana, who has shown me where to look for answers as opposed to telling me them, which has helped me get to grips with a lot of the terms I would never have known.
Using the sticky thread Walkthroughs and videos, I've just finished adding hspl and updating my ROM. Extemely pleased with myself right now, even though it's simple.
I was somewhat put off initially, after reading so may complaints about sms bugs, dodgy camera, the fact the US is getting better specs etc and people wanting to move to Apple or Google, but sod it, it's been fun learning all this and a bit of patience and appreciation for everyone's hardwork, and I can look forward to building on what is already a great phone. I'd hate to end up like my David Brentesque boss who answers every question by pulling out his Iphone and saying, "I've got an app for that!"
Laugh it up dickhead, I can run two things at once.
Cheers
hello,
strangely enough i popped my rom updating cherry tonight too. i imagine this is probably not the right place to do it but i just wanted to thank all of you for all the help you provide here. i was dazed and confused and like harris everytime i googled something i would be led right back here.
i have a t-mobile phone with its silly restrictions and lazy software. since updating roms, if i didn't love my phone before now i want to have its child.
i'm incredibly grateful for the assistance. much more to search through - next step registry editor. thanks again everyone and apologies for my maiden post most likely being in the wrong spot.

Hello guys, it's been a while.

Hello all!! I've been gone for a while, I've been busy being sucked into the iphone trend, and this phone is about to bring me back to my senses. Before I left the community I was heavily into herald(wing) modding and tomorrow I expect to be running with the htc hd2 from now on.
I'm basically starting this thread in the hopes that one of you pro's can point me in the right direction. What do I do first? I'm well aware that stock software on any phone is crap, battery life stealing slow garbage, so I'm obviously going to need help with which Roms are recommended for newbs like myself. I remember before I turned on my wing for the last time, in order to install a cooked rom I needed it to be hardspl'd. Is there something similar to that with this phone?
I can't wait to see what WinMo software has to offer after my 2 year absence. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks for the help!!!

Welcome back, you certainly picked the right phone to enter the fold again!
THIS thread (a sticky in this forum) has some great reference links to the kinds of stuff you'll need when starting out, incluing instructions on HardSPL and flashing for this device. One that's particularly useful is THIS link to a list of stuff that was extracted from the euro version of the phone, so you can add any of them that you want, that didn't get included in the T-mobile US version

[Q] T-mobile HD2

I'm a newbee to this site. Read alot of reviews about this phone. Pros and cons. I played with one at the store, and I like it. But with some of the problems said, and some people had mention this site for possible cures. Basically If I get this phone and have some of the issues, what can I do to fix them? Thanks, Lenny
Most issues can be fixed with a custom ROM.
lenstan, you should check out the guide that's linked in ddgarcia's signature above, it gives all sorts of good info on known issues with the phone and various solutions/workarounds (plus a ton of other helpful stuff for new/prospective HD2 owners)
Thanks guys for your help and direction. I've been reading it over and over. I plan on getting the phone this weekend. I'll play with it for awhile, and make sure it has the current update by T-mobile. I would like to see how works as is. Youtube has been helpful in seeing how thing are done, and what some of the roms look like. I will study the tweak guide again, and the make changes needed. When I do decide to change the rom, which ones in your opinion work the best to start with.
Thanks again.

I personally like Energy Roms. But it's kind like saying which do you prefer a Ford a Chevy. You'll have to see which works best for you.
