Text Reflow in Internet Explorer Mobile - HD2 General

I have a UK version of the HD2
Text reflow used to work alright in internet explorer as long as I was on the original factory installed ROM (1.43).
Ever I have upgraded to the ROM version 1.48 as available on the HTC UK website the text reflow inside internet explorer has stopped working.
I cannot even revert back to the original 1.43 ROM as a link to this is nowhere available.
Can anyone help. And anyone who upgraded to the UK 1.48 ROM also experiencing a similar problem.
Thanks in advance for all your help

Why would you not use Opera? Especially when HTC went ahead and made it the default browser for you...

There are things that IE can do that Opera can't, and obviously vice-versa.
I'd be interested in text-reflow in IE, but to be honest, I don't remember it ever working.

Such as?
I alternate Opera and Skyfire for different needs, never saw a need for IE. Microsoft should have just dropped it if they couldn't make it better, because people unfamiliar to WM and the existence of browser choice dismiss WM entirely because of PIE.

Well there's the obvious "Opera doesn't run flash" issue, and there's a thread running at the minute with people asking why you can't use NTLM authentication in Opera (Windows Domain Authentication).
They're the first 2 things that sping to mind.
IE is fine, but each browser has their strengths and weaknesses. Anyway, this thread isn't a discussion about who says which browser is best, so I won't go any further into that.
Each to their own. I agree with the OP and want text-reflow in IE.

Yes, which is exactly why the OP has asked if anyone knows if this can in some way be enabled. If you want it in Skyfire, I'd suggest getting in touch with their support, or opening a new thread asking if anyone here has experience in somehow enabling it. I'm not saying it's possible, but I don't know that it isn't.

Thanks to everyone for posting here.
However I can confirm that Text Reflow was working perfectly with the original factory installed 1.43 ROM.
My problem is that I cannot find the original ROM now as only the new version 1.48 is now available on HTC's UK site.
As to why I want to use PIE over Opera is that some of the sites I visit more frequently are more compatible with PIE such as if you would like to play video clips on the BBC news site and specially my banking site which Opera can just not open.
Given the shortcomings of PIE such as no tabbed browsing and no pinch to zoom I still prefer PIE over Opera.
Regards

I have finally been able to get hold of the original ROM from 4shared.com
This is the RUU_LEO_HTC_WWE_1.43.405.1****_ship.exe.
After installing this ROM text reflow is back again.
I am now going to compare the registry entries for Internet Explorer between the two ROMs. Will keep everybody infromed when I am done.
Thanks

Good plan - I look forward to hearing more, but I suspect that it may be down to the exe, rather than settings.
Good luck

As in my previous posts, "Text Reflow" worked okay with the original 1.43 ROM on my HTC HD2. However for subsequent newer ROMs like 1.48 and 1.66, text reflow did not work.
Here is a registery change which has enabled text reflow to work once again, in both 1.48 as well as 1.66 ROMs
Using a registry editor go to :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Main \
Add a DWORD entry "Enable Mobile Optimized View" with a DWORD = 1
Add a DWORD entry "Mobile Optimized View Minimum Height" with a DWORD = 50
With these changes internet explorer mobile is working with text reflow enabled on my 1.66 ROM. So anyone out there wanting to upgrade to the higher ROM's but simply does not want to loose the text reflow ability within internet explorer mobile, here is a solution.

Opera Error While Clicking On Links in Pocket Outlook

So I installed Opera.
Then when I get an email with a link on it and I click on it I get the following error:
OperaLauch.exe
The file 'OperaLaunch' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the file.
A quick look at the Opera folder shows no file under that name. So out of curiosity I went and did a search on the web. Found only two sites talking about this but they are both in Russian. Great.
So obviously the line in the registry that points towards opening links is pointing to this program. I did a quick search and found a number of registry entries that would normally point to PIE but are not pointing to Opera.
Now I was wondering who here knows the registry entry to open items in Pocket Outlook so it uses PIE. Or even better how to make it work so it opens Opera as the default browser when clicking on items in Pocket Outlook.
Now, don't say to do a hard reset as I won't do it on principle alone, since I am sure someone knows and I am not going to reinstall everything I go just because one line in the registry!
Anyone? Or even so, anyone who had this same issue?

I have had this same problem and the only remedy was to uninstall, I posted this before and no one had any ideas as far as I could tell.
there is similar problem with netfront. U need to set pie as ur default browser, then link will be opened w/o probs in PIE.
btw: opera launch is or should be located in windows folder. try 2 search for file within ur pda
Thanks. But what you have told me I already posted on my original post.
I did a search already with the wildcard word "opera," and nothing called Opera Launcher came up. Then I checked the obvious Opera folder and nothing was there either. Hence why I know the issue could be fixed within the registry. That is what I was asking.
You can't set IE as your default browser because as I am sure you already know, there is no option within PIE to set it back to the default browser.
If I did a search on google I am found the registry entries to change back to PIE but there are a number of registry entries. So it could be fixed without a hard reset. But I wanted to see if anyone had figured out a way to use Opera as the Tab browsing is so much more useful and it is just better.
I have not found a fix for Opera, but as an alternative to having to do a hard-reset and reinstall everything again which is of course a hassle... I found the registry entries to switch back IE as the default.
Beats doing a hard-reset.

Anybody figured out the Opera problem?
Okay, after an in depth search I found the entry regarding OperaLauncher.
There is a stupid key at,
HKEY_local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\efBROWSER
Now I do not know the format to tell it to perhaps use Opera.exe.
Anyone can help?
Bump?.......
Shot, I didnt see this thread until I posted another one that is similar.
But yes, I am interested with finding this too..
Okay, I can see that NO ONE even tried to fix the issue. So I decided to do it myself. I mean, it is not the ultimate fix since I would like for Opera to open as default.
Logic dictates that Opera screwed up somewhere, so what I did was setup PIE to be the default browser by deleting and replacement two specific registry entries.
After that, PIE will still be the main browser when opening links in Outlook, and for everything else I can still use Opera. Since having to copy paste links from Outlook to IE or Opera was annoying enough to delete the browser altogether.
Cheers,
Which key is that?
Check the entry posted on my first post. Delete the Opera entries.
Take a look, type exactly as posted on value 0 and 1 an PIE will start and avoid that silly OperaLauncher problem.

Thanks, I was able to this no problems at all and it fixed the issue - at least by defaulting back to PIE without the error.
Hope I read this correctly and following is useful.....
To enable Opera to open links from emails in Pocket Outlook I did the following:
1. Copied 'opera.exe' (not the large dll) from \storage card\progam files\opera to \windows.
2. Found the entry 'operalaunch.exe' in the registry and changed it to 'opera.exe'.
Thats it - Opera launches when clicking hyperlinks in Pocket Outlook.
You only need to make one change:
In HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER is a key called "1". Change the string value from "OperaLaunch.exe" to "\Program Files\Opera\OperaLaunch.exe" (or whereever Opera is actually installed). You need to include the quotes around the string. Save and restart your device. Should work (did for me).
John
Registry Keys
I had the same problems after uninstalling Opera.
Error message: OperaLaunch cannot open , blabla
I had to change the following registrykeys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\wsp\Shell\Open\Command
String Value (Default) = iexplorer.exe %1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\ EFBROWSER
String Value 0 = Pocket IE
String Value 1 = :MSPIE
Good Luck
I managed it just.
I copied all the files from the Opera folder to the windows filder, then changed this,

And it worked ... It wouldnt work before, when trying to point it to the storage card, it kept saying "Storage cannot be loaded" or something ... I just realised i had forgot the " from the beginning and end of the string

Opera 9.5 Build 1957 WWE & Fr

Hi there,
I've extracted this build from Omnia rom posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2623503
Cab updated
if you have "the specified module could not be found" at startup, re-download cab here, those now include ImmVibe.dll.
Install into main memory:
http://rapidshare.com/files/144273883/OBX-Opera_9.5.Build1957.WWE.cab.zip.html
Hardcoded intro Storage card:
http://rapidshare.com/files/144274089/OBX-Opera_9.5.Build1957.UC.SD.WWE.cab.zip.html
Hardcoded intro Carte de stockage (french language):
http://rapidshare.com/files/144274261/OBX-Opera_9.5.Build1957.UC.SD.FR.cab.zip.html
Enjoy ;o)
----------------- Install ---------------------------------------------------------------------
if you have previous opera, be sure to uninstall it, and delete every file and Reg as this build changed a lot compare to usual update, the default Opera9 folder is now expected to be in Application Data, where previous use to be in windows, the skin and other file changed also, and Opera seem to be very sensitive...it didn't worked for me at first try... so Clean your previous opera before install... ;o)
----------------- User Agent Modif -----------------------------------------------------------
Well this build have some default value coded to Samsung i900, but chance, we can override them via register:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\UA]
"UAMode"=dword:00000001 0: Mobile 1 : Desktop (control by the setting/advanced in opera)
"User Agent"="SAMSUNG-SGH-i900/1.0 Opera 9.5" ---> this is the user agent when identify as mobile
"UAD"="SAMSUNG-SGH-i900/1.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)" ---> this is the user agent when identify as DESKTOP
When set to identify as Desktop, if Opera don't find "UAD" key, it will send "SAMSUNG-SGH-i900/1.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)" as user agent so to change this, create the UAD key and set it to whatever string you want.
now, in OPERA, go to setting/advanced, and choice identify as desktop.
paste this into url (whitout http
javascript:alert(navigator.userAgent)
You should see the string value of the "UAD" key
here the .reg to identify as IE7 browser....
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\UA]
"UAD"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0b; Windows NT 6.0)"
"User Agent"="HTC/1.0 Opera 9.5"
Thanks! Testing now....
not working for me, just flash over to new rom, so everything was clean, goes from the startup scrren it then goes to "the specified module could not be found"
Error message title is OperaL if that helps at all.
missing module...
It's seem like Opera use Vibetonz (vibration feedback)... can you try with ImmVibe.dll into you windows folder:
forgot to compress thee .dll
here ImmVibe.dll
it's linked to other vibe's dll, not sure we need them all, so try with ImmVibe.dll only

Wow if you press and hold on the middle of the right side. A zooming option pops up like in the google andriod browser.
Ok I downloaded this version and it seems to be way faster taht the 1938 build, however I have 2 problems.
1. This browser still does nto recognize the HTC XT9 keyboard
2. I cannot stream videos...youtube doesnt work. when i click to watch a video the streaming media player opens on my touch but i get an error stating "failed to find network".
any ideas????

For your XT9 keyboard, i have no idear... i tried to keep the install as close as possible to the omnia setup. You may look at an older build which worked fine, check the opera.ini file, there is probably some key there you have to copy them into your current opera.ini file and file to the proper folder.
About streaming media player, it's not related to opera i think, i got same trouble, but it's a bug or something in streaming media player, if you use activesync to connect to the internet, it doesn't work, try when you are connected over wifi, it should be fine...
good luck
youtube isnt working..
no video shows up
the keyboard is not a big deal cause it will get ironed out in the future..as for using wifi lol i dont have that feature
youtube works perfect for me, and better then 1938 ever did.

Vodafone Live! on HTC Touch HD ..

Actual article present on my blog here.
I posted earlier about how to access the Mobile TV on HTC Touch HD on my blog here. But later I found out that method as an inadequate one to continue in normal usage. So I did some more R&D at home around this and found the perfect method of doing so !
So here you go now.
My HTC Touch HD has, L26 v9.0 WWE ROM and you need following software before proceeding further.
* AdvancedConfig – for doing the configuration changes on Internet Explorer User agent
* PHM registry editor – for making the changes to rtsp default player
Vodafone Live! runs primarily on S60 based devices and I had an excellent experience of it running on my earlier Nokia N95. So you need to try and ‘fool’ the system at Vodafone to assume your phone as a N95 instead of Internet Explorer running on a Windows Mobile phone. To do so, you need to change the ‘mobile’ user agent string of your Internet Explore browser to the one used for N95. Use the following steps to change the user agent string.
1. Run AdvancedConfig
2. Expand Internet Explorer option
3. Click on User Agent custom base
4. Change the value as follows
Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95/11.0.026; Profile MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413
Once you are done with this, to ensure that the change has worked, Open the internet explorer browser and go to the website http://www.useragentstring.com. Your browser should recognize your device as N95 using Mozilla Safari browser.
If this happens, then you have passed the first step!
Now go to Start –> Settings –> Connections –> Connections –> Advanced –> Select networks
Select “Contract WAP” as the default network and you are good to go.
Just to test if this works.. try accessing http://live.vodafone.co.uk via your Internet Explorer browser (in a Mobile mode, not Desktop mode) and see if it works for you.
It worked for me and I hope it would work for you.
However, I had one issue with HTC Streaming Media that the rtsp link would not play. Hence I had to go and change the default RTSP player to WMPlayer.exe by modifying the registry.
If you too are having similar issue, then open PHM registry editor and access the key \HKCR\rtsp\Shell\Open\Command. Change the default value from StreamingPlayer.exe to WMPlayer.exe “%1” and you should be able to view the streaming from your Windows Media player.
Try the above steps and let me know how it goes…
What .. no reply? :-(
Hey!
So, I have done exactly as you said, but no luck... the User Agent does not change. To be mentioned: I am using Dutty's XTREME v2.1. Perhaps the User Agent Code is stored in another place, not where AdvancedConfig expects to find it...

Dunno much about Dutty's ROM. I had it earlier and the above process did not work for me there .. probably because the Internet Explorer browser in there has a hard coded useragentstring in browser.dll
I tried the above on L26 ROM and it worked .. in fact to my surprise ... !
Hello!
Just an update. Everything works fine with Opera Mobile 6.5; there it is easyer to change the User Agent String. I replaced it with the string you gave and ... everything is working fine. Couldn't convince IEM6 to work, though! Ah, well... the procedure how to change to a Custom Agent String in Opera is described here: "In opera:config, User Perfs there is a setting called “Custom User-Agent”.". Good luck!
One question: where can I find this browser.dll in my device? Oh, and the quality of the live stream from VodafoneLive is lousy!
Thanks ...
I dunno about the browser.dll, supposedly in the Windows folder somewhere. I suggest you not to try and play with that, otherwise you will corrupt your IE forever.
I tried on IE first and it worked, so never bothered to try on Opera. Kept opera separately and in tact for web browsing ..

Need help with keyboard

I noticed that the keyboard has a shortcut to the browser. I put a pic to show what I'm talking about. Anytime I click on it, it takes me uses the Internet Explorer I was wondering if there was a way to change it so when I use it it takes me to Opera instead of Internet Explorer.
what you need to do is go into your windows folder with total commander or resco not file explorer and look for Short_Explore.lnk or Short_IE.lnk...push and hold on it and go to properties then shortcut, then change the target to the program location of what you want to use...
I think You must set Opera as your default browser.
jdmsleepr I tried to use total commander to do what you told me and one I choose the program I want to use and click ok and the file changes back to the default one.
AxlR how do I make Opera the default browser?
weird...mine never defaulted back...but to change the default browser...using a reg editor naviagate to HKLM\Software\microsoft\Shell\Rai\DEFBROWSER...change this to whatever browser you want to use!!
Well I kept trying nothing worked so far
it doesn't bug me that much just wish I could change the feature for quicker use.

T-Mob. branded: change browser in internet-tab?

Hi guys,
is it possible to change the default Browser (T-Mobile web'n'walk [Opera9]) to self-installed Opera10?
Could not find any possibility...
thanks!
No ideas? Damn T-Mob branding. No ROM Update available
I don't have Opera 10 installed, so can't give you exact instructions, but there's an executable in the windows folder called OperaL. This is what manilla runs when you open internet explorer from the internet tab.
You need to replace that with the executable for opera 10. It's also possible that there are associated files and/or folders with Opera 10. They may or may not need to be copied into the windows folder too. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I don't have Opera 10 as I prefer to keep the ability to pinch-to-zoom.
Incidentally, this has nothing to do with T-Mobile's branding. An off-the-shelf SIM free HD2 (like mine) uses Opera 9 from the internet tab too. It just isn't branded as T-Mobiles.
Thanks for your answer.
If this would be a "normal" Opera 9, it would be OK and no Problem. But every time I'll start the Browser by clicking the icon in the internet tab, the "web and walk"-Opera-Browser asks me "Would you really go online?" and I have to tap "yes". This is really ugly and so I want to replace it by another browser - in this case opera 10.

I understand - that would get on my tats as well! If you prefer Opera 10, try the above. If you'd like to keep Opera 9, I could supply you with the exe off my phone and it may get rid of the message. Don't know for sure though.

also check "HKLM\Software\Opera\Defaults\FirstTimeConnectConfirmationMsg" and set that to 0.

Thanks for this registry hack, but both of them are set to 0 by default. very ugly.
@johncmolyneux thanks, but my colleague has a hd2, too, but unbranded. he will send me his operal.exe and then we'll test if it's running.
It's pretty easy to bypass the MessageBox. The Opera (or Web'n Walk) Shortcut in the startmenu points not to \windows\OperaL.exe but \windows\BrandedBrowser.exe... so simply edit the shortcut located in \windows\startmenü\programme with totalcommander or something.
As Far as the Internet Tab in Manila goes... i don't have a clue. i searched the registry, searched several xml files in \windows....
YES, DID IT!
Thank you, operative1.
I've searched the registry for "BrandedBrowser" and:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\UseBrandedBrowser set from 1 to 0 and look - Opera10 is opening. Now i just have to change the Icon - but at the moment i'm really happy that the Shortcut is right!
Thank you all guys!
Great. Looking long time for it.
Thanks a lot.
