1. does google gmail somehow remember a android phone? because it is pulling different settings and wallpapers for the droid and the nexus but i am using the same email account.
2. can i use nandroid backup a image of droid and restore that same image on the nexus? or does it require modifications.
1. Since when did Gmail have wallpapers? And I'm pretty sure you have to modify the settings in the app if you switch phones but that shouldn't take long.
2. I sure as hell wouldn't try it.
thats wierd. when i got the nexus it pulled all the settings from my old phone including the wallpaper that was on the droid to the nexus.

I don't even know how that's possible, unless you were using the Nexus One default wallpaper on the Droid. As to the droid Nandroid backup working on Nexus. . . NO. Don't do it. That's basically the same as trying to nandroid nexus and load it on a G1. It has to be ported due to the hardware differences (drivers and such).
yeah i dont know how to recreate this. the droid i had the 16gb card and the nexus i left the 4gb default without pictures that was on the droid. i login gmail account and it grabbed the settings and the wallpaper. thats the only way so far to get the picture as a wallpaper without it being pixelated and blurry.
gmail account remembers your settings. It will change your wallpaper if the wallpaper is preloaded by default on both phones.

I liked to have my contacts ordered by last name, but I can't find that option on the Fasinate. On the Captivate for ATT it was in menu option at the contacts by pressing "MENU" then "MORE" and then "SETTINGS", and there you can change the "order of display name" to either "First Name Last Name" or "Last Name First Name"....
Like I said I like the Last Name First Name order, but can't find that option at all on the Fasinate....anybody know where it is at, if it's possible? And if it's not possible, what type of phone won't let you order contacts by the last name?!
anyone else having issues with facebook sync and contacts, my buddy said the ppl's FB pics are not syncing..
I believe that contacts sorting is a feature introduced in froyo 2.2
I don't see a sorting feature either, but for the record, my Facebook contact photos are syncing just fine. Note that I'm using the built-in Facebook sync option for that, not the Facebook app itself. I do have the Facebook app installed, but it's not configured to sync contacts.

Yea I had the Captivate before switching to Verizon and getting the Fascinate and it was there......argh.
Im learing the Fascinate is very cut down compared to the Captivate it seems. The only thing it has going for it to me off the bat is the ability to load non-market apps, but thats SUPER easy to enable on the Captivate, and I suppose you could count the camera flash. Other than that, Im not sure. Looks like I might be moving to the Vibrant now to see what it has to offer, haha.

Just a suggestion, but you might wanna try installing Dialer One, a free dialer app, the best one in my opinion. It has just about all the features you'd ever want in a dialer (including sorting by last name), and then some. Looks a whole lot nicer too, none of that kindergarten color scheme stuff.
Thanks, I hate first name sorting. I'll give that a shot.

While at the Verizon store tonight playing with the Fascinate and Droid X trying to find the phone for me, we downloaded this app as it would be necessary for me as I use my phone for business and have over 1500 contacts in the address book. Great app but how do you make it the default dialer on the Fascinate? We were able to make it default on the Droid X but not the Samsung. Any help here as this would be a deal breaker on my choice.
Hi! Since the Profiles feature of the Droid Pro is hardcoded into BlurHome.apk, is there any way for it to be ported over to other devices?
Thanks!
No one has an answer?
Isn't the whole point about Blur that when you login with Blur on another Motorola device you get all your settings back?
If so then just log in on the other device with your Blur login and your profile is now on that phone too, right?
The Droid Pro Profiles feature is like HTC's Scenes feature. You can choose between Work, Home, and Play screens.
Only the Droid Pro and Droid Global have this feature.
I'd like to port it over to other Moto Phones which is why I'm asking...

Just bought the tab 10.1 after a near endless debate. Im not very happy with the stock camera on it, after using my HTC sensation camera , ( I like the instant photo). Camera is a huge thing for me because of the amount of photos that I take. I would prefer to stay away from action snap since it doesnt work the same as I want, Im looking for something like the sensation stock.
Also not sure, is it worth Rooting the tab. There really isnt a lot of junk on there that I would remove.
And is there a way to not have GMAIL app do your email for you. Its a family use tablet and I would like to prevent any kid access to my emails.
You're better take pics with phone. First of all, root then custom Rom

Sorry to confirm you really shoudnt have bought a GTab101 if camera is a huge thing for you!!
I am not aware of any replacement app that is worth it. Wouldnt help much anyway.
There is no point rooting the tab as long as you dont need it.
If you dont know/would ask what to do with it anyway, why would you even WANT to root it?
As for the GMAIL app, it is imperative that an Android User (read gmail account) is linked to the device because all Google services are linked to that account.
.. Why dont you put a dummy/family account on it? Then access your personnal account using an app that asks for password everytime or use web interface.
i know how to do root, last three phones have been done nicely. Just not sure if there is a reason since most functionality is at home on wifi. I would throw in the family account, but, then i could not access my paid for apps.

For your gmail issue you could try this:
Go under settings - accounts and synch - disable gmail synch. Then go under apps and clear cache and data on the gmail app.
This way all data already in should be cleared and new data shouldn't synch. If you want it completely disabled, you could also root your tabled and simply remove the gmail application.
You could also try to use an application like Android Protector (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androidpassword.core). Haven't used it myself, but I've heard about it a few times, supposedly you can password protect any application ... might be worth a shot.
When I moved from my Galaxy Nexus to the Nexus 4 I simply exported my Apex Launcher settings and desktop data on the Gnex, copied the 2 files onto the N4, and then imported them. That got me 95% of my desktop layout and icons working. Yet when I do this from the N4 to the SGS4, nothing comes over. After the import I simply get a mostly blank looking stock Apex layout. What gives? Anyone else using Apex Launcher on the SGS4?
Probably because it's a completely different phone with different everything. Might just have to start over

Uh, that's kind of the point of import/export.

I think what the poster means is that PERHAPS Apex is not yet aware of how the S4 is laid out make the export part of the process effective. Despite the fact that your exporting from apex to apex.
Maybe you got a bad export? Did you do both settings and desktop in Apex; separate files? I restored N4 to S4 just fine. It did everything except the widgets, but that's normal.

Yes I did both. Thanks for the info, that is what I was hoping to learn - if something is wrong on my end or if it's an issue with Apex and the S4. Seems to be the former. It's odd because after performing the exports on the N4, Apex reports that they were saved successfully and if I re-import on the N4 everything stays the same so it seems like the files are correct, yet the "date modified" on the files is an old date from 2012. Not sure what's going on here.
Hi,
Since I got my S4 and rooted the phone, my wallpaper gets restored to the wallpaper I had on my old phone (Desire HD) around midnight every night. I can tell from Google Dashboard that it has a backup of my old wallpaper but I don't want that restored. Is there a way I can prevent this from happening?
Thanks,
Ian
Go to your samsung account and tap on backup and restore, there's an option to choose what will you backup or restore. May it solve your problem.

I didn't have anything backed up to my Samsung account at the time. But it is still restoring. I've deleted my Google backed-up data (for my old and new phones) in case it was restoring from there, but it didn't work. I tried not using an Active Wallpaper and used a plain one, but it didn't work.
Any other ideas to stop the restoring?
can you give some more details?
normal wallpaper, some live wallpaper, wallpaper application, what exactly is restored?
and what you mean by restored? the phone automatically chooses your wallpaper?
and last one: did you found out from where it restores (I assume google account, but just checking)...

I have no wallpaper application. It's a static image, pretty sure it was a wallpapre image from a long time ago.
When I mean choose - I go to bed with the wallpaper as what I had set, when I wake up the wallpaper from a long time ago is chosen. I was awake at midnight one night and noticed it change about then.
I don't know where it restores it from. I deleted my Google data in case it was there. I didn't have any Samsung data (I just configured my backup-restore tonight). I've looked for that image on the phone and if I've found the image, I delete it.

This is a very strange behavior, indeed. I remember I had something similar, but I was using a live wallpaper application....
Maybe you can go and clear the data and cache of wallpaper application?!

It is called SecWallpaperChooser (you can find it when showing ALL applications)
You can also try to set a live wallpaper, just to see what is happening.

If I knew where the wallpaper was, I'd delete it!
I put the phone in flight mode last night to ensure it wasn't refreshing from on-line. It changed - so I guess it's not refreshing. One thing I just remembered - it started happening when I rooted my phone, it wasn't happening before that.

the own wallpapers/ringstones and stuff like that should be storded in /media/ on the sdcard. do you see the old "bad" wallpaper in the gallerie/settings if u try to change the wallpaper?

Hi, no it isn't in the /media directory. The old wallpaper doesn't show up in the gallery if you change the wallpaper.
I hooked up my phone to the PC and explored every directory I could find, and I can't see where the wallpaper might be.
Found out what it was. I use a program called "Settings Profile", which sets the phone in various profiles (Silent, Night etc). One of the settings is to set the wallpaper. I restored the settings from my old phone and obviously the wallpaper was in there! Thanks for the hints everybody but it's my own fault. Needless to see I don't set my wallpaper like that any more!
Thanks,
Ian
