I know for many this sounds stupid and copletely unnecessary to do because android is so awesome ;P
but i was just wondering if its possible?
Regards,

Well, there's something that lets you dual-boot WinMo and Android on a WM device, optimized for 6.5. Dunno about the other way around, though.
dear sweet lord above, why would you pollute this device with winmo?
your right it is stupid ! winmo sucks !
see those answers are exactly what i was trying to avoid

yea i have that on my old i900 but i dont think it works the other way around, cheers tho
This has been asked once or twice before and the conversations just do not end well. It might be possible but it would require quite a bit of low level work, the bootloader (or whatever it is called in embedded systems) being a significant hurdle in and of itself. If you want winmo you are far better off going with an HD2 or waiting till something else comes out.

i wouldnt mind dual booting in WinMo 6.5 or better yet to iPhone OS (to get all the good apps)
I'll probably through winmo7 on my nexus when it comes out.
wow, ANOTHER thread on this....
Wmware is releasing mvp soon. It runs on windows ce now but they are making it for android. Soon you will be able to run any os on your phone.

screw that!
i rather hackintosh the nexus! i love my iphone only reason i got the nexus is for my 3g in tmobile in the us. i still have the grandfathered 5.99tzones and i get 3g all day. got the nexus unlocked for 529 with tax it was 570 i think.
imagine an iphone running snapdragon, oled screen, 5meg camera 512ram SWEET!!!
HACKINTOSH BEFOR WINMOBILE!
wm
I would definitely try WM on my nexus one.
I think those people that are saying, that android is so great that you do not need anything else, are stupid at least.
For example - try getting cracked navigation software working on your Nexus One...With WM you can have iGO working very well or Navigon or Tom Tom. You might say that you can use built in maps - but in Europe people are changing countries after driving few hundred miles - so data roaming would cost more than buying new GPS device...
So while I understand that you love your android, but there are plenty of good stuff on the "dark-side"...
Isn't HD2 hardware wise very similar to Nexus One? Wouldn't it be possible to put HD2 boot loader on Nexus One?

Yes, but I was just intrigued to see the new OS running fine even though it lacks some major hardware as per Microsoft.
However on the off chance that it is running something live it does mean there is some form of test rom out there....somewhere. . . . . but i doubt it

Except that there are 99% chances the phone is actually off and dead or displaying a plain blue screen to allow image blending in postprocessing
i dont think that the pictures you see on the screen are real. usaly such things are made in post production. its much to complicated to film this situations in real life. so i think its no indicator for w7 ore not on hd2 anyhow.
regards mad
As much as I hate to up a not-so-useful thread
The idea is old... there has been a link posted somewhere here on the hd2 forums to a MS stage or something (and that was at least a month ago), where an infomercial for WM7 was done with a girl holding to her ear what definitely looked like an hd2, or at least a photoshopped one.
That doesn't bring you anywhere, since we have had different news elsewhere from an "official" source (check the other thread reagrding it) saying othrwise that WM7 will not be for hd2.
Anyhow, if you are so desperate to install a MS iphoneos wannabe on your already perfectly working WM6.5 hd2, I think there will be for sure a cooked rom with WM7 sooner or later. Afterall they are selling on aftermarket qtek 2020 alpines with winmo 6.5 on them....
It's Bill Gates, pissing in our collective ear: "Nyah, nyah; that'll teach you fellas to have two extra buttons".
to me is not looking like HD2 but if it's indeed HD2 for sure will be a rom for it here
NO MULTITASKING NO FILE EXPLORER
enough for me will buy leo and not go on wp7 WHY??????
IF I want nice OS can take Iphone or nokia s4o and get all like new wp7,but if anyone want mobile computer....... wp7 is nice good looking and thats it no more hacker boosting cant go in system well I could do that 4 y ago in my 66oo and want to do that now. microsoft make big big mistake windows mobile will lose lots of users.I will go on 6.5 and hd2 or will wait little more for maemo6 and see what device will go with it but windows phone 7 is big disappointment for me and cant understand why microsoft do this.
Wait for yours opinion guys

+1 here
when the rumors come true, my next device is definitely android/maemo/meego.
One of the reasons I have been using WM and HTC phones for the last 4 years is because I absolutely love tinkering with them, I don't think more than a couple of days pass without me doing something to the phone with new mods or apps.
A fixed OS would be a big turn off for me, I love the ability to customize my phone and just mess about with it, wherever I am.
I was WinMo then switched to Android for about 15 days with G1 phone... then returned it all together (2 times two different devices) and got myself Symbian )e71) which I use now. I was tired of touchscreen a bit and had no problem going to smartphone... since I wanted iphone that is not iphone litteraly I read the review if no touchscreen is a must - E71 is a way to go... review did not dissapoint. I quite happy user but that was about 2 years ago... I am now ready for another phone and it will be either MeeGo device (Nokia+Intel), Maemo (n900) or HD2. I am not thinking Windows 7 Phone for numerous reasons...
iPhone I do not want... Androids are simply NOT THAT SMOOTH as advertised but all models are simply compared to the previous Android device and blown out of proportion how better it is... problem is I want something that opens stuff in the blink of an eye, that has no bugs, that hold battery enough for me to operate on my stuff I need (1 days is kewl) and that's it... oh yeah - I want Garmin XT installed which I have now and my other choice is HD2 besides Symbian S60 devices... Nokia Touchscreen is not that perfect yet - so my favorite now is HD2 - however, I will not get it yet - I want to see massive reviews from people that get it...

I'm leaving android sense for a hd2. android sense is nothinglike the winmo sense.
HD2 is just fine plus i am sure they will at some point make the WM7 avaible for it. And if not - the shefs will manage to cook similar roms.
Plus - waiting sucks, i've already waited way too long for the Leo and it was worth it!

wp7 doesn't have a filemanager, not really multitasking or like such things.. So tweakers wouldn't like wp7 very much. it's too iphone. for the tweakers (and some other guys ) they will sell wm6.5 alongside wp7
What a horrible move. Microsoft should try to get all WM6.5 users to upgrade to WP7 (discount for tradein or something?), then leave 6.5 dead.
WP7 is not an iPhone. It's the next generation of smartphones. I don't think you need a file manager if every hub / app is able to organise its files automatically. Unless you like running cracks and keygens...
WP7 has smart multitasking so the OS doesn't lag (well, you want full multitask and get the 6.5 lag amirite?). It freezes apps when they are in the background. So your game pauses and doesn't need to take up CPU for no reason. Browsers will probably be enabled to load in the background, music played in the background, etc.
The N97 got flamed because of the pathetic Symbian OS. I don't see why people think 6.5 is still competent.

I'm ridiculous why? I said they should try. I was drawing parallels between the flamed N97 and 6.5; 6.5 isn't even flamed that much because everyone's given up on it.
I'm looking at peers running Android and iPhone OS and 6.5 is simply not competent. A screen tap is a screen tap. It should immediately register.
Don't flame just because you love your Microsoft. I support them too, but I support the change to WP7.

What bothers me about WM7 is that MS seems to be taking the OS to Iphone OS version 1. While Apple is coming with a new OS that features multitasking, copy/paste because their customer base lamented these omissions, MS consciously chose to follow in their mistaken footsteps?

It's an older battery now, but it never lasted more than 2 days. I use the touchscreen alot, full brightness, I use WiFi + data...because these are services that we use on smartphones these days. Do you save battery by leaving it in your pocket, to only pick up a call or reply to an SMS? Because then, why are you using a smartphone?

Advanced powersaving? The new devices have vicious hardware. They burn more battery. And I never saw anything about powersaving for that matter - the MIX2010 conference highlighted the fact that they are building around the idea that you recharge everyday because the battery will go flat. Because that is the way it works in 2010. You want to charge weekly, then you stick with your old phone. I can expand my "no taste" argument to accommodate this - you don't want to change from old (to consumers and Microsoft) ways, and therefore you are not going to catered for by the mainstream.

No idea what you are talking about with WM5 - are you saying you prefer 5 to 7, and you actually like 6.1 in comparison to the phones of 2010 (therefore backing up my "no taste" argument)? And thanks for giving a link to a page in Polish. No, I'm not going to bother translate it, because I don't think I should adapt to the translate feature that is present in Google Chrome. By cutoff bull****, are you referring to the cutoff feel of the WP7 UI? It's a design cue that many have embraced, pretty much none have flamed since the release of Zune HD. Hence, your viewpoint is again the minority.
I have absolutely no idea what you are basing your arguments off, brother. Sorry if you are offended that I targeted your sense of taste, but why so touchy? Maybe you should go get a non-touch phone, better battery life.

Copy & Paste is getting implemented, but in a far better way. MS needs to release the OS to OEMs, so they don't have time to implement it for release. It will come in an update. Link
I've stated how multitasking works in 2 ways - either running in background, or freezing in background. Picture Link Running in background only supports the default hubs and apps at the moment, but they are incorporating 3rd party multitasking in an update. Microsoft has never been great at meeting deadlines, but this isn't any way the fault of the OS. Link

Have to quote here:
"Microsoft should try to get all WM6.5 users to upgrade to WP7 (discount for tradein or something?), then leave 6.5 dead."
This doesnt seem like sense to me - we have many many markets over the world that are only just catching on with tech that UK and some Euro/US users have had for years.
Some countries will be using old OMAP processors and Windows 6.5 for a few years yet, some countries dont even have this kind of tech avilable anywhere!
Well off users with 1 year old OMAP crap tech will want to update to this new Gen - we were all sold duffers with the last 2 generations:
Rhodium, touch pro 1 all the others slow unweidly devices.
I can vouch for this personally, having had HTC tech (1 every gen) since HTC Canary smartphone was released in 2003.
My HD2 is what I would call useable for day to day people. My Rhodium is just to slow and prone to freeze even with newest ROMS and software. IF I gave, for example, my Mum a Rhodium she would go mad - like dial up internet, very frustrating when you have seen faster she expects things to happen straight away.
However, if a non tech savy person (my mum) was to use my HD2 they would have much less trouble even though its running windows mobile 6.5 - the user experience is so much easier and more comfortable. They dont need windows mobile 7, they just need decent tech powering their device.
"WP7 is not an iPhone. "
I think many people would disagree, it seems MS have taken EVERY cue possible from the last few generations of iphone when putting together their plans for this round of Windows 7 phone series - we will see what happens when new Xbox and PC OS is released how much further they will go with integration in newer builds (hopefully lots further!)
"The N97 got flamed because of the pathetic Symbian OS. I don't see why people think 6.5 is still competent."
Not entirely. The N97 runs S60 V5 (now known as Symbian OS ^1 or something) this is a limiting OS BUT.....the hardware of the N97 is where the trouble is. They removed the 3d Chip, the phone doesnt have enough RAM, Keyboard sucks compared to my Rhodium.
Samsung released their I8910 which ran same OS but had Milestone/Iphone 3gs tech inside it. I had one and browsing with Opera 10 and media playback on it was AWESOME!
Other firmware features did let the phone down (samsungs fault)
Nokia made history with N95 and other similar devices.
Such amazing, perfect devices for their time, similar to Iphone.
Everyone thought that the N97 would pick up where the N95 left off but it couldnt as they were splitting their Os's from S60 V3 over to Symbian Foundation and also Maemo...meego etc..
It would take a couple of generations before things settled.
Its going to be the same for MS with their 7 Series phones....They will need to run both OS's along side each other for a long while yet given the size of this world and their market divergance.
Maybe MS will do a similar split?>
7 Series for Media/social networing whores
Some sort of return to windows CE for more advaced users?
Maybe I dont care as Android will take over Windows Mobile 6.5 perfectly for me
I would love to know where tech will be in 10 years time!
Folding multi OS devices that change shape and beam holographic style!
I think things are ramping up to change very quickly, OS shelf life is going to shrink as hardare jumps ahead of it with increasing leaps.
Exciting lol!
i've testing android roms on my hd2 for a few weeks and i still have this question:

2. i can't find something that android could do and wm couldn't

Well i asked this question myself a lot!
Even if i'm running on Android for 3 weeks now and i didn't use WM since than; it is still not easy in my opinion to answer it!
I've done it just for curiosity and for change!
All i can feel is that it's more stable and that is what i'm interested in a phone! I don't like freezes or crashes and as you said anyone can find whatever he wants in any OS... As for speed and smoothness yes they are really the same...
Thing is... since you can have both with no problems at all, why not have both?
You get the stability and efficiency of Windows Mobile for daily work, including Office Mobile and other features Android doesn't have, and then you have Android with its huge application pool for more "fun" uses.
Windows Mobile = professional tool.
Android = kid's toy
For now at least - Android is still way to instable and also, even worse, way too power hungry to be used professionally on a HD2. I need to be able to use my phone intensively all day long without having to recharge after a few hours because the battery gets drained big time.
Android is just better, even with some bugs.

this is not a flame attempt is just an honest question
thank you all!
Personally Its about looks and widgets.
I know It sounds odd but I hate the look of winmo.
I also dont like having to scroll through a bunch of different screens when I can have a screen with a bunch of different info on it.
Sense on winmo comes across as a big hinderence. Only thing that made winmo bareable to me was cht and even that drove me crazy.
I always say this but as a user of all three os I am just more comfortable with android than anything else.
So i guess I would not consider myself a winmo user. I bought the phone with the intent on using android at some point.
It is hard to get people to adjust to something different. Most avid winmo users will say they like winmo better. Most avid android users will say that like android.
It all boils down to what you like.
If someone has always used intel and you get them to buy a amd when they get a virus they will blame you for suggesting the amd. I know this because I work retail. I have learned not to let my feelings or judgements get in the way.
So I say if you like winmo stick with it.
Old winmo is dead hopefully windows phone 7 can be ported to the hd2. Otherwise those who like winmo will be stuck doing it old school.
I'am waiting for the Motorola Defy. ;-)
I find the HD2 with WM also good. But i'am curious.

As for why people dont flat out buy a android phone.
I am a t-mobile user. I do not wish to use sprint or verizon so that limits the number of phones I can use with the very large 4.3 inch screen.
We arent getting the Desire hd here in the Us. and frankly the samsung captivate is too small and missing led flash.
google 2 nexus 1 mytouch slide screens are all too small!
price is also important. If someone already has an hd2 why spend more money on a new phone when you can use android.
buggy as it maybe its pretty dang fantastic.
Turn by turn gps in Google maps is great. Windows mobile is dated. Looks basically the same as it did 8 or 9 years ago. It was designed to be used with a stylus and android was designed for touch. I went back to the HD2 after owning an iphone for 18 months, I didn't like the way apple control everything so went back to Windows and regretted it ever since. The iphone required maybe three or four reboots in 18 months.
Now I'm running Android on the HD2 and rarely drop back to windows for anything.
There are certainly problems at the moment with Android on the HD2, these will be overcome (remember these are really just beta versions at the moment) relatively quickly and we will have a stable operating system that is highly configurable and far far superior to Windows.
I'm using mdeejay_froyo_sense_v2.1a_ppp with a 2.12 radio and stock 02 uk Rom. I still lose signal occasionally with this release but no screen freezes after a week of heavy use. For me it is now more stable than windows.
guys, this is not wm vs android
please remember the question - Why do you want Android on HD2?
you all bought hd2 as a wm phone, so i find it odd that you say so many bad words about wm. did somebody twist your arms to buy hd2 or did you chose it freely?
i completely disagree with the guy saing wm is instable - on my hd2 i use custom roms and they are extremely stable (nrgz, miri&steve, indie to name just a few chefs)
turn by turn - almost any gps sofware has it
and wm may be outdated but on hd2 is very finger friendly. i don't see the need of a stylus no matter what i do
where i live a second hand hd2 is selling for 3-400Euros. with that money you can buy a samsung galaxy s - same size, even better technical specs
and yes, bing has speak search. in the home page you will see a small microphone icon. press it and the speak what you are looking for and wait for the magic
and as i said before, you can customize your interface in so many ways...
so, again, why android on hd2?
thank you!

We arent bashing windows mobile. These are our reasons as to why we want android on the hd2. A lot of regular users I know have had horrible experiences with the hd2. Most of the people I speak with hate the phone. The fact that they have winmo on the phone matters not to them.
You must have by passed the fact that I said the galaxy's screen is to small for me. Yes .3 inches matters and the fact that the galaxy s doesnt have led flash for camera's is a major kill
Like I said I chose it freely to put Android on it. When i got my phone The nexus 1 was the only android phone with decent spec's. Frankly the 3.7 inch screen is too small.
Why, because i can have Android on it, that's why

wm/android
from lockscreen to enable wifi and go back to homescreen , 5/2
how many clicks does it take to disable orientation and go back to homescreen 6/1
how many clicks does it take to adust brightness and go back to homescreen 6/1
how many clicks does it takes to download email and fb updates after a successful wifi connect and go back to homescreen 6/0
cht may improve theese values ... but gimme a break with questions like theese , u do not deserve to run android on ur fone if u ask somthing like this
Honestly What is the point behind this question other than you just wanted to ask.
And while I do respect that you wanted to I ask I cant but wonder what you expect.
Each one of these members has a reason for wanting or not wanting android.
You really should consider accepting peoples reasons.
as you said I am not flaming I am just stating what I see.
I look forward to your response.
