I have bought a Sandisk 16GB microSDHC Mobile Ultra (SDSDQY-016G-E11M) which has been sold as a class 4 card.
The label on the card itself show's the number "2" in a circle and even the back of the original package describes class "2".
So now I'm confused a little bit what quality and speed I've got for my Euro 59,- ???
anybody has an idea what's going wrong with this Sandisk article number???
thanks for help

hi.
actually what i can tell you is that the
sandisc even class 2 ist sufficient at least to me. I've bought one last month and am very happy with it. music and video playback fast enough. . i do have also ps1 emulator and lots of roms running without any problems. i've seen a benchmark at some place that its also far better in terms of read/write then the normal class 2 cards are used to be...
so don't worry about the class but about the price you may need to chase the shop what that means because the 59 euro is a big high if class 2. I paid ca. 35 euro at amazon.de last month.

SD Speed Class Ratings
SD Cards and SDHC Cards have Speed Class Ratings defined by the SD Association. The SD Speed Class Ratings specify the following minimum write speeds based on "the best fragmented state where no memory unit is occupied"
* Class 2: 2 MByte/s - 13x
* Class 4: 4 MByte/s - 26x
* Class 6: 6 MByte/s - 40x
There also high performance versions of each class that go beyond the specifications. Example: Class 6 can go as high as 20mb/s

the price at Amazon for same 16GB Sandisk card today is Euro 55,95, but
what confusing me is the class sign shows the number "4" on Amazon's site and has the same Sandisk part number as my's, and
my card show's the number "2" in the class sign.

I've done some testing with different class cards, and posted the results in another thread:

In short, for read speeds in the HD2, it makes no difference which type of card you have, so it really doesn't matter.

Actually upon on the product desciption the card itself is class 2, isn't it?
"original SanDisk Markenware, Erstausrüsterqualität Geschwindigkeitsklasse 2, minimal Schreibgeschwindigkeit 4MB/s inkl. MobileMate Micro Card Reader"
I guess its only in combination with that reader possible to get 4 MB. The card itself is marked as class 2.
Well and the difference in price is reasonable as you have the reader pack. I went for the one without the reader: http://www.amazon.de/SanDisk-microS...Handelsverpackung/dp/B001F7AJKI/ref=pd_cp_pc_

Feb 28, 2009
The 16GB SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC memory card is the only class 4 speed rated card in the market for this size and it proved that you can have a fast microSDHC card with a large capacity!

so I can't believe that the Sandisk microSDHC 16GB "SDSDQY-016G-E11M" is äquivalent to a class 4 card and for Euro 59,- to much expensive,
although this card is sold as class 4 card!!!
http://www.ditech.at/artikel/MSC16G...icroSDHC_Card_16_GB_SanDisk_Mobile_Ultra.html
The shop is selling both, the 2 class and the 4 class version, each of them has a different SanDisk part number.
Both versions includes a 16GB card with class sign "2",
the version with part number "SDSDQY-016G-E11M" is sold as class "4" and is more expensive!
thanks for more hints!

Seems like a scam to me.
Normally the class 4 card is sold as SDSDQY-016G-E11M.
I bought mine yesterday from another retailer, model number SDSDQY-016G-E11M, package says class 2 - must be an error or universal package -, but the card says class 4, for about 58 €.
Btw, the reader surely doesn't make a difference of 17 €...
EDIT: E could mean Europe and A could mean America.

So you really can be lucky that your SanDisk package "SDSDQY-016G-E11M" had included a class "4" one ;-)
Not lucky. I just got the right stuff.
Almost any internet page declares the article SDSDQY-016G-E11M as a class 4 card.
If I were you I would return the card, if possible.

Possibly SanDisk has a problem with their packages and is selling slow speed cards for a higher price!

yes, it's possible to return the card, and I can go myself to this shop!
Because the shop first mentioned "when the right number is on the package the card is a class "4" one, even when there is the number "2" in the class sign),
therefore i wanted to find out if all available SanDisk packages "SDSDQY-016G-E11M" will contain a card with class "2" sign.
I have bought two of them and both contain a class "2" card ;-(
Why you haven't bought silicon power instead of sandisk? (On this forum we have a topic about 16b sdhc )

I can't believe they are allowed to sell class 2 cards as the SDSDQY-016G-E11M!

SanDisk has to take the blame because these are original SanDisk packages which originally show up "SDSDQY-016G-E11M" article number including reader, but inside the cards itself show class "2" sign.
The question is if packages labeled "Mobile Ultra microSDHC 16GB" are existing as both, class "2" and as class "4" versions, or mobile ultra means automatically class "4" ???

Google for SDSDQY-016G-E11M and you will see that 99% of the found pages say class 4.
The other 1% are scammers.
SanDisk doesn't use the same product number for different classes.
SanDisk may use the same package with a "class 2"-printing - I don't know why - but if the printing above the barcode says SDSDQY-016G-E11M then it has to be a class 4 card.
tomorrow the shop will get new delivery, will see if packages still contain class "2" signed cards ore hopefully class "4" ones!
It would be interesting to see another benchmark from a class "4" signed 16GB microSDHC SanDisk card!
Benchmark of my SDSDQY-016G-E11M, class 4, with included MobileMate Micro Reader:
14 Megabytes write speed
18 Megabytes read speed
Benchmark of the card which comes with HD2, seems to be class 2, with MobileMate Micro Reader:
6,5 - 7 Megabytes write speed
10 Megabytes read speed.
Tested several times with large files of 200 - 1200 Megabytes.

I just wanted to know the speeds of the SDHC cards, i wasnt sure how they compared to SD ultra II cards. I just havnt been able to find the specs anywhere so far.
When I bought my 4 GB sandisk SDHC I asked the salesman about speeds. He searched many places, even at the manufacturers homepage, without finding any specs. He sent a mail to sandisk, but I havent heard from him yet.
I'll tell you the results when I hear from him...
On the card itself, there should be a number in a circle. This number is the rated write speed of the card, in MB/second. This PDF from SanDisk should provide more detail.
All i know is that they are class 4 cards, and that they are much faster than regular sd, micro sd cards, but not as fast as USB 2.0 or firewire.
After reading the pdf, it appears that there is more than one class. My 6gb card says that it is a class 4, so it would transfer at 4mb/s.

i would logically think that it should be...i mean, if it can accept SDHC, then it will prob. be able to utilize it.
The 6GB and soon to be out 8GB cards are all currently "Class 4" which is 4mb/s; ScanDisc is the current leader in bringing Micro SD card technology to market and to this point there have been no indications there is a "Class 8" or higher in the immediate future.
4GB cards typically will be either "Class 4" 4mb/s or "Class 2" 2mb/s. If you see a really cheap 4GB card there is a good chance it is a Class 2, so be careful.

Amazon is selling a 2GB SD card for $40.85 where they claim:
Product Description
The Sandisk Mobile Premier microSD Memory Card offers all the benefits of a standard Sandisk microSD card plus higher performance and TrustedFlash technology for premium content storage on next generation phones. Write at 10MB per second and read 9MB per second for higher speeds to increase the functionality of your phone's storage capabilities. many ppl are mistakening about what the classes refer to, there are 3 class 2, 4 and 6, this means the minimum write speed the micro sd can achieve, in other words, the class 4 and class 6 may not even be faster than a class 2.
I have te following and did a simple test using the hd tach.
toshiba 4GB class 4
sandisk 4GB class 2
sandisk 6GB class 4
all cards offer a write speed at just over 4MB/S
As for the read speed, both sandisk is about 11MB/s, whiles the toshiba is at 20MB/s
on the market apart from these, there are others, like kingston and eagletec (toshiba OEM), and may be some others.

thanks.

see the photo number 6
so for £17 an 8GB SDHC card from play.com is my best option really? Any other suggestions?
That's even cheaper than Ebay!
I bought a 2GB Sandisk one from Play for my Artemis and it buggered my phone! Play were a bit arsey about replacing it, but did eventually after a load of emails and phone calls
8 gig rox!
I have 2 8 gigs that I switch back and forth...it was kind of funny to use my phone as an external hard drive via usb! The phone also has disk mode, faster communication to the sd card...
Its almost sick as we keep getting more and more memory! pretty soon we will get rid of moving part drives and everything will be memory!
I've bought an 8gb sandisk class 6 with p&p for around £27 off ebay.
Don't forget that there isn't just size, but speed as well.
As far as I know, the current 16gb cards are class 2, even though some places are stating 4. (I've not come across anybody that can prove they have a class 4) And sandisk isn't even showing details themselves yet.
16 gb microsd class 4 does not exist.
there is only class 2 for this size, the rest are fake!
class 2 should be enough for regular user though...but then again, who on this forum is a regular user? )
I have a Sandisk 16GB Class 2 card - works perfectly.
Does anyone know what Device Class the Touch Pro is?
There is no need for a class 4 card if the unit is a class 2...
Is there any good benchmarking programs for reading SDcards on WM6.1?
16gb, saying class 4 £46.95 http://www.memorybits.co.uk/shop/mi...23-in-1-multi-card-sdsdq016ge11mplus23in/9078
have ordered from them before no issues
No one is selling Class 4 currently, their information is incorrect - many others are similarly stating Class 4 but shipping Class 2. Class 4 is not yet available.

I use Pocket Mechanic on my Tytn II (still running WM6.0); it has a pretty good benchmark suite. I ran it on a SanDisk 16 GB Class 2 I picked up the other day and got write speeds of 1.3 MB/sec. The same test on a SanDisk 8GB Class 4 gives a write speed of 2.05 MB/sec. Those numbers suggest to me that the device is the main impediment to performance -- I should have seen at least 2MB/sec and 4MB/sec respectively (that's what Class 2 & Class 4 mean).
And that's a Tytn II but I'm very interested in what difference it makes in a Touch Pro..
my choice is between the:
Sandisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC 8GB (Think it's class 6) (€38,50)
and the
Sandsik microSDHC 8GB (Which is class 2) (€24,95)
And I really don't know which one to go for.. I somewhere found a Nokia N95-3 review which told that the difference was noticable between the 2 cards.. but I don't know if it's true for the TP..
Any help on this matter?
You guys really need to steer clear of Ebay for memory, to many fakes of rubbish quality, I have used both of these places before and they are excellent and reliable, I just bought a genuine Class 6 sandisk 8GB micro SD plus a keychain USB adapter for £26.50 delivered, from the first place
www.picstop.co.uk
www.7dayshop.co.uk
The pro is class 4 or better i tried wth c1 c2 and c4 cards c4 works the fastest almost 16mb transfer speed via the phone that is not bad.... a full os flash from c4 card take just 5 min nbh image size 154mb so talking about a heavy-weight os. but the same progress with my 4 gb c2 card take over 10min ???? funny
The SanDisk 8GB Mobile Ultra class 6 is superb!!
I've bought this Sandisk micro SDHC 8GB class 6 at 'The phone House' for about 40 euro. The class 4 device was 10 euro less expensive. Yes expensive but worth every cent. I've used several brands the past 6 years and I'll stick to SanDisk: reliable no issues at all and fast!
At this moment 16GB is available but only class 2. Don't buy them because you don't want a bottle neck in your overall system performance!!
Woot has 4gb MicroSD cards for $11 shipped. I just snagged two, but hurry the deal is only good for one day.
i actually emailed HTC about this and got the following email as a reply

He was specifically asking for the fastest card. Your card is the slowest. Class 2 is the slowest class you can get. It's not even sold anymore here in Japan. For the HD 2 I would recommend at least a class 6 card (6 MB/sec reading. The better ones are now rated as class 10.
SanDisk 16gb Class 2 exceed the speeds of asian branded class 6 cards such as Transcend and Adata etc.
I would get a Sandisk Class 2 16gb card over other higher class cards.
Only better one at the moment is 16gb Class 4 SanDisk which exceeds class 10 speeds.

Just because it is Class 2 does not mean it is the slowest!
The Sandisk Class 2 performs well above the majority of class 2 cards and even some class 6-8 cards.
The 2 only means it guarantees that speed.
I've seen some class 6 cards just reach 7mb/s, so this class 2 would run the spots off it. I've got a Sandisk 16gb Ultra Class 4, its quite fast but you need to consider the fact that the phone won't use it to its max potential, only 8mb/s limit i think
From what i hear the class definition only is a guarantee for write speeds.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#SD_Speed_Class_Ratings
"SD Cards and SDHC Cards have Speed Class Ratings defined by the SD Association. The SD Speed Class Ratings specify the following minimum write speeds based on "the best fragmented state where no memory unit is occupied":[8]"
I've got a Sandisk micro sdhc 16 Gg. It's only a class 2, but i should say that it is pretty fast and I never had any trouble with it. Fast and safe.
I find it better than the Transcend or Kingston SD I tried.
I hope we can soon have a micro sdhc 32 Gb

Did you get all of your 21 posts by helping people out with this sort of useful info?
Thanks to the folk who have actually posted useful stuff though...
I see the Sandisk Class 2 16gb one on Amazon and other sites for about £30 - which seems pretty good. I found another thread comparing speeds of cards, and it seems the HD2 can't write or read any faster than the equivalent of a class 2 anyway.
I think the Sandisk Class 2 will do for the moment - the 32gb ones are due out anytime soon... so theres no point in lashing out £60 for a high spec 16gb when a 32gb will be round the corner.

ouch..£52.99 is a bit steep to justify when a similar spec standard sd is less than half that price..I can't help wondering whether there's any real benefit from a card with this performance level that's detectable in normal use, after all,the ammount of data that will be required at any point in time surely wont exceed the displays capacity even while using a lower spec card? Yes the snapdragon can process huge ammounts of data quickly but it's still going to be limited ,by the ammount of it,it can show or am I talking round hairy things? I've seen a similar debate on a forum dedicated to sat navs but never found, myself, any difference between using cl2 or cl6 cards as far as speed in the processing and displaying of information upon a screen goes...anyone care to enlighten us?
I have been using Sandisk Class 2 16GB cards for a while now, 3 pcs on separate devices and I can say it is fast and safe. Fully compatible with the HD2. I also have a 16GB Kingston Class 6 and it is about 20% of the Sandisk speed when writing. Way too slow even though it's rated as Class 6. Go figure.
Especially video recording? I've read reviews that say it performs more like a class 4 or class 6 card.
i just got a 32gb sdhc from ebay...then i seen this post :-/
Its a no-namer from hong kong...i hope its ok...Im now wondering the same! I got it because I seen that the linux/android dev has made some good progress.
Will it be ok for running android?
I haven't tried video recording yet, but for file transfer and the typical use of the HD2 (programs, GPS, view pics, video) the performance of the 16 gb class 2 of sandisk it's excellent, more than enough. I talk about an original Sandisk, bought in a shop, not an Ebay fake.
Best regards
Class two is 16 Mbit/s, so you should be fine.
my class 2 16mg sandisk card reaches up to 7MB/s transfer speeds via reader, so I suppose it's well more than enough for video recording.
I actually did some sessions of video recording at top quality (VGA via reg hack) and all went fine.

check your card with h2testw.exe and see if it's not hacked memory. I had 2 x16GB no name cards from ebay and they appeard to be hacked, had only couple of gigs but under properties showed as 16GB
@ errorius
seriously? awww man...i was just to quick to buy without checking...seen it at £33 (free postage) for 32gb micro sdhc.
I will try the program you mentioned (do you have it and upload it somewhere?)
Thanks for the advice, i will check my card when it arrives. I have contacted the seller twice...no answer

yes, I'm very seriuos, just google for the file and you'll find it.
After this discovery i checked 16GB SD card that I ordered more than one year ago and I wasn't using it till now and I got same result as with sdhc. I will never order memory cards from china again.

I have a Sandisk class 2 16gb, no issues with file transfer or video recording, works like a dream.
I use it for storing vids that I then watch on train journeys, works perfectly.
Class 2 is definately not 16mb/s. That must be an 'upto' kind of info!
Using cleanex rom and connected via disk drive mode i get 10-11mb/s read and 5-6mb/s write speeds with my class6 16gb card.
i tried the 2gb class2 sandisk i got with the phone and i only get 4-5mb/s read and 1.5-2mb/s write speeds.
IMHO i think the class of the card makes significant difference. Just my 2 cents.

i think you're getting a tiny bit confused between megabits per second (Mb/s) and megabytes per second (MB/s)
ran H2testw on the 32gb card i got off ebay, doesnt look good;

i bet the guy just sticks the number three on the cards himself
how is that surprising?
Plus, it's offtopic, the thread is about 16GB microsd cards speed
I had mentioned it on page one and another user told me to run the program when it arrived...did it really require its own thread?
Anybody know where i stand with this thing? I new with ebay (i did use paypal)...unsure at what to do next

At first contact the seller and include information from the test and if he refuses to refund you can contact ebay about this item or you can go directly to paypal and ask them for refund, but dont forget to include information you have.
And don't forget to leave negative feedback stating fake memory.
Looking to get myself a 32gb card.
Just wondering if the play uses SD or SDHC memory cards, or ok with either?
it uses microsd and microsdhc
regular sd card wont do
Yeah, obviously I know it's micro.
Just wasn't sure about the sdhc.
Cheers
It's ok with both sd and sdhc but I think it's not compatible with sdxc (if you'd ever like to get to 2TB maybe it can come in an update, My htc wizard got sdhc support with an unofficial driver update).
A 32 gig card will work just fine with the Play.

I heard there's problems with class 10 32 gig micros on android phones. Is this true?
i'm curious about this, some applications wont work with a class 2 speed sd.
sd or sdhc would do. you should be more worried about the speed. as for now you should think of either getting a class 6 16gb or class 4 32gb (if you could find one).

I was thinking of getting this class 10 32gb micro, Fast enough?
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220547&Tpk=32gb micro sd
I have class 10 32gb, works fine on xperia play.
The only problem android has, is you cant format 32gb cards on your phone. But most, if not all cards come pre-formatted anyway. Otherwise you have to connect the card with an adapter to your pc to format it.
*edit
You can format 32gb cards on your phone, but it wont format properly and you will have issues. I did with my old phone, it couldnt scan the card properly and it would reboot while trying to scan.

now that's something
read most of the reviews: crashes and corrupts the files, some even only last within 24 hours i'll stick with the class 4 32gb for now
even with the sandisk 32gb class 2 cards, i already replaced 2 of them when they crapped out on me

haven't read anything about this. and the reviews for a kingston 32gb class 4 on the net has been great so far. but if this will be the case i might just go for a 16gb class 6
Ok, so I got a 32gb card, moved all of my stuff off my 16gb (about 14 gig) to my pc. Took about 20 minutes.
Put my 32 gig in, formatted it & transferred everything over.
Took about 3 hours & when I put it in my play it's saying there's 28 gig left & hardly anything I set to transfer has actually gone to the card ! ?
Do a full format and not a quick format.
Ive seen a class 10 32gb micro sd card for 50 quid, but im worried that its too cheap and might not last long.

Memory cards are very reliable IF you bought the original ones and not those unbranded fake cards.
I've never had issues with ALL my memory cards, from the SmartMedia, SD, MS stick and Compact Flash cards used in my Palm and Sony Clie PDAs, my DSLR and micro 4/3 digital cameras, PSPs and DSL and all the way to the microSD cards used in my smartphones and tablets. I purchased them all from local reputable shops and never bought any from online stores. Can't remember the exact figures but I probably had a total of 30 to 40 cards here in my house.
The problem I see is those cards that are found on online shops that are unbranded (anything not Sandisk, Kingston, Lexar, Panasonic etc are all semi-fakes). Just imagine that Sandisk the world's largest NAND Flash memory maker has yet to come out with a 32GB Class 10 microSD as of now and you can already find some smaller unknown companies selling them at very cheap prices since many months back?
Sometimes if a deal is too good to be true, IT IS too good to be true! Of course if you still proceed to get them due to their ridiculously cheap prices, the risk is all yours. For me, I just buy the originals at original prices and not regret it later, my data is much more important to me than saving tens of bucks.
For some reason, there are quite a lot of fake Kingston cards on the market so beware.
Various issues with the fake/unbranded cards are:
1. Reliability
2. On a 32GB card, you may actually get only 4 or 8GB storage, some tricks were added in these fake cards such that once you copied beyond the 4 or 8GB capacity, it automatically loops back internally to overwrite the oldest copied data.
3. Some 32GB Class 10 cards only had Class 2 speeds.
Another advice is that for smartphone usage, you may be better off getting Class 2 or 4 cards rather than higher class cards. This is because although the class 6 or 10 cards can have sequential readings and writings at their stated class speeds, in terms of random access of data on the card they may actually be slower than Class 2 and 4 cards. In other words, you'll get more lags using higher Class cards.
Here's a test I did with a Patriot LX Series Class 10 32GB Micro SDHC

You sir are correct! My Patriot 32gb micro class 10 lags alot When playing the FPSE the game lags too much but with the micro sd card that came with the Xperia play runs perfect I'm gonna return the card and just get a Sandisk 32gb class 2 from newegg.

After doing a test of manually copying content to the card I believe I have fallen foul to buying a cheapo card covered by your point 2.
I've bought quite a few cheapo cards back from my old K750i & PSP days but this is the 1st one I've been stung with.
Live & learn etc !
