has anyone been able to find the Sandisk Micro SDHC card specs/speeds?

I just wanted to know the speeds of the SDHC cards, i wasnt sure how they compared to SD ultra II cards. I just havnt been able to find the specs anywhere so far.

When I bought my 4 GB sandisk SDHC I asked the salesman about speeds. He searched many places, even at the manufacturers homepage, without finding any specs. He sent a mail to sandisk, but I havent heard from him yet.
I'll tell you the results when I hear from him...

On the card itself, there should be a number in a circle. This number is the rated write speed of the card, in MB/second. This PDF from SanDisk should provide more detail.

All i know is that they are class 4 cards, and that they are much faster than regular sd, micro sd cards, but not as fast as USB 2.0 or firewire.

After reading the pdf, it appears that there is more than one class. My 6gb card says that it is a class 4, so it would transfer at 4mb/s.

hmm, well as long as the kaiser can take full advantage of that 4mb/s then that's pretty good.

i would logically think that it should be...i mean, if it can accept SDHC, then it will prob. be able to utilize it.

The 6GB and soon to be out 8GB cards are all currently "Class 4" which is 4mb/s; ScanDisc is the current leader in bringing Micro SD card technology to market and to this point there have been no indications there is a "Class 8" or higher in the immediate future.
4GB cards typically will be either "Class 4" 4mb/s or "Class 2" 2mb/s. If you see a really cheap 4GB card there is a good chance it is a Class 2, so be careful.

at best buy they have 6gb micro SDHC cards, do you thik those are class 4? i would only expect to get class 2 online?

I don't know what BB has, but the 6gb I bought online a few weeks back is class 4. According to Sandisk's site, all their 6 gb cards are class 4, and all their 4gb's are class 2.

If they are ScanDisc then yes they are class 4.

many ppl are mistakening about what the classes refer to, there are 3 class 2, 4 and 6, this means the minimum write speed the micro sd can achieve, in other words, the class 4 and class 6 may not even be faster than a class 2.
I have te following and did a simple test using the hd tach.
toshiba 4GB class 4
sandisk 4GB class 2
sandisk 6GB class 4
all cards offer a write speed at just over 4MB/S
As for the read speed, both sandisk is about 11MB/s, whiles the toshiba is at 20MB/s
on the market apart from these, there are others, like kingston and eagletec (toshiba OEM), and may be some others.

I go the 6GB sacndisk from Buy.com for 70$
It seams slow, when programs access the card it seams to stop for a second.
Like using it IE or attached files of email.
and finaly every this was gone, and format it again..

What is the best SD card for the Hero?

Heya,
I'm sure this topic has been discussed but I can't seem to find a clear answer. It's obvious that the HTC Hero is somewhat temperamental with certain makes and classes of Micro SD, or the assumed Class 6 isn't always as fast as people hope.
In my case the 2gb stock card is just going to be too small so I'm keen to purchase the biggest card the phone will support (which is 16gb?) or 8gb. Is there a card in particular which stands out as being the best (in terms of speed) for the HTC Hero at these sizes?

find Sandisk 32GB micro SDHC is already available for pre-order, but no specific date of release.
I just bought a Sandisk 16GB micro sd (class 2), appears faster then the 2gb stock card.
Try to search some technical reviews of different SD card with statistics. Much better than relying on "CLASS".

Hi, I would say that in a price/performance view you should go for a 8GB class 6 card right now. The class says how fast the card can transfer data. Class 2 does 2MB/s. Class 6 does 6MB/s.
32GB is the limit of the SDHC format. I have 8GB now and I guess I upgrade to 32GB later when prices get better.

for sandisk, class 2 = class 4, class 4 = class 6.
as i know, some class 2 is actually much faster than the standard minimum speed.

I have an 8 gig in my phone but its having trouble rescanning the card i have like 4 gigs of music on it and I think thats too much for the phone to scan, that would be my only thing to maybe consider.
Ps if anyone has a solution for my problem that would be great haha

The 16GB Class 6 you list doesn't seem like that much of a stretch to me, it is a wee bit over twice the price, but not ridciulously so (i.e 3x the price). It is the best MicroSDHC card that money can buy, and the transcend one I've got is nice and fast (pretty sure it was less than £50 too, now that I think about it).

Nup, no 32GB MicroSDHC cards as yet fellas, all the sites I've seen, list the Sandisk one for Pre-Order, but its been like that for 6 months, so maybe they're planning for a 2010 release?

any offical word or tests showing that a class 6 will work to its full speed... rumor I have heard is the hardware in the hero (us version) will utilize up to class 2 speeds.
(Not to say a class 6 wont work. just that it will only be reading and writing at class 2 speeds) Can anybody confirm?

I can maintain 6-7MB/s write speak to my 16GB Class 6 which is Class 6 speeds. Not as fast as I'd like (SD speeds), but worlds better than the Nokia N95 8GB I had before which was limited to 800-1000KB/s (only USB 2.0 full speed as opposed to hi speed).

I am trying to find the source now but cant rummage up my history; i swear i read an email from HTC saying the card reader in the Hero was a class 2 reader, thus nullifying any performance increase from a class 4 or 6 card.

Likewise,I'm sure I read an official source saying that it would only make use of 16GB irrespective of the size of the card. Sounds more dubious but I'm not going to risk it with my own money!!

Any updates? Want to get one on black friday

As what i know G3 Hero only support up to 16gb sd/sdhc card.
As the class on those card are for writing speed & reading speed is all the same.

According to HTC's website the Hero can use SD 2.0, SD 2.0 is another way of saying SDHC, just like devices that are compatible with standard SD, the device is expandable to the limit of the format. Therefore, the Hero CAN do 32GB because it is SDHC compatible. Only problem is the 32GB Cards have yet to be mass produced.

Does the class of the card make that much of a difference (in terms of smoothness of video playback) ?
I'm not too bothered about write spead.
The reason I ask, is because I can't really find anywhere (I don't use ebay) in the uk (online) that's selling reputable 16gb class 6 microSDHC cards (that are in stock). Will class 2 really be a step down ?

Class does matter in speeds. So I would say yes, but you won't notice it.
I got a 16GB Micro SD-C class 6 and a 4 gb class 3/4 and video playback on my Touch HD is the same....

No, absolutely no difference at all.
The only time the class will make a significant difference is if you take the card out of the phone and connect it to your PC's USB port using an adaptor. A high-speed card connected like that can be written to a lot faster than it can while it's in the phone. But otherwise you're limited to the speed the phone can access the card at - which is a lot slower.
It's also worth saying that a class 2 card made by one of the better manufacturers (Sandisk, for example) may well be faster than a generic class 4 or even class 6 card - class 2 means it's guaranteed that you can write to it at 2MB/s or faster, but the ratings of cards from good manufacturers tend to be very conservative.
As for video, the bit-rate of a video file is not that high. My Touch Pro 2 maxes out at about 750 kilobits per second on an .mp4. The read-speed of even the worst class 2 card will be at least 2 megabytes per second - which is more than 20 times as fast. The Leo will probably be able to cope with higher bit-rates than the TP2, but certainly not 20 times as high.

Don't HTC have an online store in UK? Here they have Transcend 16GB Class 6 cards in stock, although they usually charge more than anyone else for what they sell.
I personally prefer to have the fastest cards available simply because it pays off when you transfrer large amounts of data (music, video) via a card reader. Also, my older cards go to my digital camera where it is important.

Looking forward to finally turning my phone into my day-to-day mp3 player, as well as running debian and apps2sd, I've been reading all the latest threads about sd cards and finally decided the most optimal config is a 16gb class 4.
Reasons:
· Class 6 is unnecessary as the nexus wont really take advantage of it.
· Class 2 may be kind of slow for apps2sd and debian, which I'm looking forward to investigate on.
· 16gb because although 32gb is comming, it will probably be too expensive for me.
Benchmarks:
I've looked through eBay and found a few interesting "offers", both at about $40:
SanDisk 16GB Class 2
TOPRAM 16GB Class 4
I really want a Class 4 for all I've been reading lately, but I can't afford a 16GB Class 4 SanDisk.
Does anyone know anything about "TOPRAM"? I had never heard about it before and I'm wondering if it could be a low-quality card.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

With all the talk about SD card speeds I've been seeing lately, I was starting to regret buying the SanDisk 16gb class 2 and not getting a Class 6. But after looking at this chart, I can't imagine why I would need more speeds than that?

I have a 16GB Team Class 6 from ebay

I'm using a Polaroid 16gb class 2. Seems to be working fine for me, even running apps2sd.

I have an 8gb class 6 from RiData. seems fine to me, used on my MT3G, HD2 and now my N1.
i do agree with you though that a 16gb class 4 might just be the best cost/performance

Since we are talking about storage memory, I have a slightly unrelated question. Which is the better, microSD or internal storage that comes with some of the phones out there? In terms of speed, reliability, and cost, which one is better?

With regard to Class 6 - don't write it off if you plan to remove the card from the phone to do movie or music transfers. There are a lot of microSD adapters for computers that can exceed the performance of a Class 6 card and so if you are commonly hooking it up to a computer to transfer media then you'll be glad you went with a Class 6.
Now, if the capacity gets high enough to store all of my music, then I won't care about that issue, but personally I can only store a subset of my music on my microSD card so I do worry about the speed when attaching it to a computer...

I've used classes 2, 4 and 6 in an HTC Magic. I used apps2sd with Cyanogen Mod.
My own experience was that Class2 was definitely slower when using apps2sd. But Class4 and Class6 were better...and didn't appear to be much different. I had Class6 sdcards anyway as that is what was recommended for most of a year. They performed well.
The last ones I bought were Class 6 8GB Transcend MicroSDs for NZ$40 each (US$28-ish). That included 12.5% GST.

So I plan on picking up the Epic next week. I've seen in videos that it comes installed with a 16gig Class 2 (pretty slow) microSD card. If I were to replace this with a class 6 microSD card, would that speed up the phone at all?

The former is just not true, which a simple Google search could have told you. There's no class 8 AFAIK, but there is definitely a class 10.
Now...will it make your phone faster? For certain things, perhaps. Loading large thumbnail images in the gallery, taking pictures, loading applications installed to the SD card once we get Froyo, all will likely be made faster. However, in terms of value/money, I wouldn't recommend it. There shouldn't be any incompatibility, however it won't improve the overall speed of the phone (which really shouldn't need any improvement), only a few very specific tasks that access the SD card.

Between the stock class 2 and the class 6 that I bought, I didn't notice much app speed difference on my Nexus.
Read/write speeds were better when taking pictures/loading files however.

Ok let me clear this up...1 yes there is a class 10 (going for like almost $100)
now as for the difference...Class only gives you guaranteed Minimum Speeds once the card fragments.
Normally most cards do about 16mb read/8mb write..BUT once the card starts to fragment with data like your HD your speeds will go down. A class 2 card guarantees you that it will be no slower then 2mbps..a class 6 card guarantees you it will be no less then 6mbps.
Now why is minimum important? well when your recording things like HD movies or etc and it fragments you don't want your movie to stutter.
Considering though max our phones can do is 720p at this point a class 10 is pretty much useless...a class 2 is ok if you plan to use it for storage(and minimum deleting) or not use SD card often but want to have it available...examples class 2 for songs is ok.

do a search on the vibrant forum - someone posted the results of speed tests on the different cards by mfgr and surprisingly, sandisk's class 4 were incredibly fast, by a factor of 3 or 4X over cards that were rated much higher
the Kingston class 10's performance was a joke, iirc - performed iirc, something like a class 4 or class 5 (if a class 5 existed)
now for the down side - the sandisk class 4 cards are (or were hard to find) about a month ago - it might have changed now. But i bought two, one after the other and both showed up, and they were marked class 2. One of the outfits, Kompubuy on amazon, showed the class 4 card and the appropriate model number. what they shipped was a different model number and it was class 2. When i queried them on it, their response was "sandisk had a typo issue some time back" - there were others reporting the same issue with kompubuy
second card from a different vendor, even though they confirmed what they had were class 4 marked, shipped correct product model, but card in package was a class 2. So i called sandisk and got the run around - the tech would not answer the simple question "are you telling me that cards marked class 2 are running class 4 speeds???" - he kept obsfuscating the answer. I suspect the class 4 cards are selling like crazy and they're or were overstocked with class 2.
their class 4s btw, were testing at 15 - 18Mb write speeds where class 4 is supposed to be 4Mb
when i tested the sandisk cards marked class 2, write speed was, iirc, about 5-7 Mb, which is surprisingly fast for it's rating. But that was in line with the speed testing others had done. The sandisk cards are way under rated, speed rating wise
in actual useage, folks weren't noticing much of a difference between class 2 read speeds and the higher classes - i believe the class speed rating becomes more critical in the write mode, which, practically speaking, isn't much of a factor on a phone

I saw the "TOPRAM" brand of card for around this same price, but I'm not willing to buy offbrand/noname SD cards because I'm terrified of card failure.
And larryccf, that is very interesting findings! I am very wary of buying SD cards off Amazon, specially when its not from a trusted seller! I was actually looking at cards from the "kompubuy" but I'm going to avoid them.
I think you get what you pay for when it comes down to it, which is why I usually only buy Transcend memory cards which I've had nothing but positive experiences with, and they do actually backup their "lifetime warranty".

I agree totally - in this case, both Kompubuy and the second vendor, were sandisk authorized dealers -
but i did confirm, using my "google fu" researching, the sandisk cards are much faster than their stated ratings. For the time being i found and went with a class 4 8GB sandisk card, figure i'll wait till the supply shortage peters out and get a 16GB card then

It is not a surprise that a class 2 can be as fast as a class 6 or 10...neither is a class 4 suppose to be 4mb...read what I wrote above..Class stands for MINIMUM SPEED..not maximum speeds. When you buy a Class 2 card you are guaranteed that no matter what it won't run slower then 2mb/sec in consecutive read and write...for a Class 4 its 4mb/sec...A Class 10 is not suppose to be faster then a class 2 card..it only means that the slowest speed the class 10 would go at is 10mb/sec
Long ago advertisers used to rate cards with things like 133x similar to how we have on burning CDs..those are MAXIMUM speeds.

i realize that - part i didn't realize was how much the sandisk outpaced the other makers cards, and the fact the kingston didn't make it's class rating

I wouldn't exactly say Sandisk doesn't exactly out pace the others...can you give me the link to the benchmarks?
Also Kingston has never been known to make good anything...that said it should make its class rating..if it does not the it possibly a fake...by fake I mean there are cards which fail QC and are destroyed but people steal those and sell them as branded cards..They are required to meet class rating no matter what..it wouldn't pass QC if it didn't

I feel I'd be remiss if I didn't share my Kingston story. About 8 years ago I bought a Kingston CompactFlash modem off of eBay, and it was DOA, but Kingston backed it with a Lifetime Warranty.
I called their support line at about 6:30 on a Thursday evening (Central Time), and a little before 8 the next morning the FedEx guy was handing me a brand new replacement. I didn't even have to secure the cross-shipment with a credit card!
I've used a few Kingston cards and RAM modules over the years without any particular impressions one way or the other, but the way they handled this problem made a lasting impression on me.

Well thats what I said..I'm not saying they are a horrible brand..I buy them for things as well..I'm just saying their products are usually average in terms of quality but not exactly outstanding.. that said 8 years my guess support has gotten worse in all companies.
