Hello people
I am using Pocket Artist to draw and I love it.
But I am just little worried that I may scratch the display - which I would not like at all.
is it possible to make some scracthes with the stylus?
Thank you people.

If you have your screen protector on which came with the phone you should have no problems

yes it is. imagine that you can have some dust particles (which, in the end, is just stone) under your stylus
but if you use the screen protector, as advised, you can forget about this issue

??? Off topic i know but Stone ???? Surely dust particles are generally human skin, in the house anyway.... Stone...my god no wonder i am putting on weight if all i am eating is dust !!
Sorry couldnt help that bit of fun, no malice intended. I concur though that so long as you have a screen protector on of some nature you should be fine to draw away to your hearts content.
Yes, I get small, small, "stone" on stylus on my old HP 4150. You can just imagine what I did with that screen. Since this disaster, there is allways screen protector on all my mobiles, pdas,....
whilst im not convinced that dust could scratch it since just is just human skin im positive that all the other crap that sticks to the screen finger grease can and will scratch it if run over with the stylus.

Take as much care of your stylus as you do your screen. Check the end of your stylus for chips and scratches.

the infinite wisdom of the chinese people......
about the dust - despite what some might belive, dust is not only dead skin (found mostly within people houses) but came also from walls, roads, fields, etc.
So better respect "the chinese proverb" and you will more happy
i actually did scratch mine in the first days.
the protection it came with was already gone so i removed it.
but i did not want to put the real one on if i had to return it to the store.
i scrolled up in the wether panel and voila a big scratch all over the phone.
i guess the stylus had a sharp end.
you could hardly feel it with the finger but the stylus stuck at it and you couldnt use it anymore.
but my store swapped it without question
thanks for all the replies guys
so as you guys advised and blah blah...
i didnt put the screen protector...and what I found on my screen when I went to bed?
SCRATCH!! just a little one...but it is there...
so I learned a lesson..and now I wanted to apply the SP but really couldnt, then I accidentaly touched the adhesive side (I did applying screen protector 1st time ever) and it got dirty OMG ..I hope I can wash it somehow and reapply or whatever..
Yep so anyone who will read this thread without having SP applied - DO IT!
Very good advice...because if you will read this thread and wont apply SP you will get a scratch, black magic!! Buhuhuhaha
Just kiddin...
Here you go - if you scroll down to the first video on the page you'll see how they scratch HD2's screen with keys, a knife and scissors - and none of these leave any traces on the screen.
Warning: This is not for the faint of heart. Unless you are used to eating babies for breakfast you may be better off not watching this brutal torture video. Here's a quick test to check if you're ready:
1. Do you plan to start using an electric vehicle to help stop global warming?
2. Do you consider your personal contribution to the cause of Free Tibet insufficient?
3. Did you ever believe a politician?
If you answer "yes" to any of the questions above, this thread might be better for you.
Wow, now that's hard glass...no screen saver needed for me.
I felt literally sick after watching that
Waouh ! no screen protector for me too !
Yikes, but boy are those camera pictures crap, why did they put that pile of ****e in it. What a let down.

you can see the screen scratching with the scissors.
I guarantee you however hard it is, there will be marks on that screen, even if superficial.

No that's not scratches but a mark made by fat left by the fingers. He cleans the screen after and no more mark...

Personally i'm seeing a smudge over where he was scratching, without cleaning the screen no conclusive information can be taken from this.
Well, he says there are no scratches left, for what it's worth. I would trust his opinion in this case rather than impressions from the video.
well even if their was scratches on teh scree from SISSORS it is still impressive. i mena come on, the guy was trying to scratch the screen and it diddnt.
what it doesnt show on the video is the amount of pressure he applied though.
I'm sure you can scratch it, picking the right tools and the right pressure. But I think it's rather safe to assume that it's scratch resistant enough to keep the phone in your pocket without any shields.

agreed, i think the point behind the entire "scratch proof" is to prove that placing it in your pocket without a screen protector will not have it coming out looking like a touch HD 1 This is great news in my humble opinion!!
not sure what is so bad of putting a screen protector, really? I won't take a risk at all to have a permanent scratch on my device!
Well, because I hate doing things like applying those damned protectors; because those protectors get scratched fairly easily and your device starts looking like crap; because I can never apply them accurately enough so that they don't have bubbles underneath.
I hate them with a passion, really. I even wanted to by an iPhone because of this. When I first heard about capacitive screen on the Leo I didn't give a damn about multi-touch (and I still don't care much about it). My hope was that HTC would use a glass screen surface. Now I'm happy. The screen is scratch resistant; if I still manage to put a scratch on it, I'll have it replaced - it's not that expensive.
that was stressful watchin that The poor TD2

agree 100% with u, man i loved those iPhone screens, i could care less about the multi touch, i mean great, but if my HD 1 would have that screen, i'd be more than happy using it for a good more couple of months!
Really impressive, thanks for sharing
Ah c'mon! Some of you guys arguing about whether it scratched with scissors, ffs a car windscreen will scratch with scissors!! It very scratch resistant, i'm very impressed. Christ I wouldn't be surprised if some of you started complaining it's not dishwasher proof, jeez...

it seems like not a reliable test to me, the reviewers seems using light pressure doing the test. And I really don't believe that any phone in the market can be really scratch resistant. Why taking the risk. In real world usages, there are many things can scratch glass surface very easily, and why leave some permanent scratches to the expensive device? What is so wrong with a screen protector?
I was wondering what the best screen protector would be for my phone i was going to go with invisible shield but don't like the rough surface. I want something were you cant even tell its there.

That's easy, don't put one on. Its pretty scratch resistant, and there is nothing you can put on there to prevent major damage. Every cover I have tried just made it more difficult to swype, or smudgy etc...

i have had good luck going with bodygaurdz. Not too rough but enough to know its there. I had trouble adjusting to the slick glass screen coming from the TP2 so it helped slow my finger down.
I agree with the OP, i had a Zagg on my G1, and I've stated in other posts myself, i don't like the "Grip-y-ness" of it, makes it a pain to swype/pinch/slide your finger across it. I'm just gonna say basically any generic screen protector you see at wal-mart or something is gonna be next best choice, but will offer minimal protection. Just don't take a dremel to your phone, and should be enough protection from sand/change in the pocket type scratches. Just make sure it sticks good, I had one on my first iPhone, and some sand got underneath it and it just peeled right off. That's probably where Zagg helps the most, those things stick like glue.
if you want some slickness, go with a matte screen protector those are suuuuper slick and resist fingerprints as well. i went with an ultraclear though, just didn't like the way the matte ones diffused the light. well at least the brando one.

You must have never seen this then lol

I personally have the Invisible shield installed just because I really hate the smudges and finger prints and it came wit my maximum protection shield so I used it. I do have to say though that it was allot easier of and installation then any other Zagg I have ever installed (I have installed tons) and it is allot let grip on the screen portion it self where your finger doesn't stick like it would with previous shields. I believe that they may have changed the shields up as well at the packaging and instillation process.
i would like to have one that you cant even tell its there so it doesnt interfere with clarity of my movies lol
That youtube video is just stock glass. He doesn't have an invisible shield on it. In which, the stock glass is pretty durable, but i dropped my phone the other day (the day before i got my case D and it hit corner first, but laid screen down. I picked it up and blew on it, before i even touched it, didn't want any dirt still on it. There is 1 very tiny spot on my screen where you can tell a grain of sand hit it and its just a little crooked line you can barely see in proper lighting. So a grain of sand can scratch it, provided it's rubbed against concrete -.-.
I had the screen protector T-Mobile sales on mine and my wifes HD2 up until yesterday, and changed over to an invisibleshield by zagg. I'm happy with it and haven't had any issues with using the phone with it on there. Plus my movies look A LOT better with it than the previous screen protector.
Hi there, Fascinate people!
I have a Captivate on AT&T (a.k.a. the my-signal-runs-away-from-buildings carrier). One of my absolute favorite features of my phone--a feature I had believed was common to all Galaxy S models--is the seemingly indestructible Gorilla Glass screen. I've carried this phone naked in my pocket for months now and the screen is still perfect!
A friend of mine liked my Captivate so much that she purchased a Fascinate as her very first smartphone. She put a screen protector and a case on it (two safety mechanisms I've blatantly rejected in favor of the uberslim Captivate), but not two days after purchasing the phone, she had scratch marks in the glass, below the screen protector in the soft button area. Granted, she has probably been carrying the device in her purse, but nonetheless I was blown away by this! I inspected it further today, and it actually looks like the scratching may be below the surface of the glass.
So my question is this: wtf? Is the Fascinate screen wimpier than the rest of the Galaxy S line? Is it possible that dust entered the phone and scratched the surface below the glass surface? Is this the sort of thing she might get an exchange for? Has anybody else experienced this, especially so quickly after purchasing?
Thanks for all of your help!
Ask the someone who knows... Ask samsung... I have no idea.
This just sounds like you are blaming us for your friend's woes. I feel like giving you the benefit of the doubt for now.
Anyways, ask them or VZW.
I haven't had any issues that you mention.
I've dropped my phone and had it unprotected since I bought it and it still looks brand new. No idea what's up with your friends phone.

The fascinate does have gorilla glass. It holds up to a lot of abuse: you can't scratch out with keys, etc.
I can't speak to scratches below the screen, never seen anything like that.
Gorilla glass can be scratched (especially by any form of sand, which is more common than you might expect), and it can shatter. This is discussed in the accessories thread.
You also have a few options if you want to keep your phone thin. Look into steinheil, real look etc.screen protectors, also discussed in accessories.
Sorry to hear about your friend's screen. Tender care and a soft clean pocket will get you pretty far, but the back cover especially will scratch up on you no matter how careful you are. Fortunately the back is cheap to replace.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.

Jewelry is a common scratcher too.
I have a screen protector on my phone, just in case... its an invisible shield, so it covers the whole screen. I passed on the VZW ones because I figured it just covered only the screen, but the invisible shields do have an orange peel kinda look to them.
I have been carrying my fascinate since launch unprotected in my pocket, and my screen is still flawless! I just bought a protector from a local uscc store for the mesmerize that covers the whole screen yesterday! 3 in a pack for $14.95, they fit well (except for maybe 16th of an in. at the edges) and they cover the whole screen!
2 small scratches and 1 small scuff mark on my screen and i have been VERY careful with this phone. not that impressed with the glass. took me weeks to scratch the screen on my TP carrying it the same way i carry the SF. i need to pick up a protector just to prevent any more marks.
hi chaps,
i recently got myself an evo 4g and was contemplating a screen protector. then i came across some videos on YouTube proclaiming just how tough the gorilla glass (?) on the evo is and withstood all kinds of torture.
anyway, in the spirit of finding out for myself, i tried the same thing to my phone and i definitely suggest not trying it yourself. The screen most definitely does scratch. Now we now.

i already knew it scratched hell iv even broke the screen on my first evo so yea my keys have scratched my screen however you can see it. it doesnt make it look bad or aweful in anyway just notice it under certain angles so kind of dumb to ruin yours to do this test could have just asked if anyone had scratchs on their screen and to take pictures
Ok, so, you went from "I should get a screen protector!" to "I'm gonna take a razor blade to this *****!" in the span of a youtube video?!
Jesus man, I hope to god you don't find out about failblog or else your hospital bills are going to be ridiculous.
ha ha!!
nah man... i was considering a screen protector. Always had one on my HD2 and Touch Diamond. But then i got to reading about how tough the glass was.. and then the YouTube videos. I though to myself, this is brilliant., no screen protector needed.
I initially tried with just the corners and there were no scratches, after which i figured let me catch the main test on video just for sake of it.
now, with what i did to my Evo, the outcome should have be the same as those other chaps who posted on Youtube, but i got a couple of scratches which i took pictures of.... what i proved was that its highly unlikely those Evos came away undamaged or theres something fishy going on.
Btw, im probably not going to use a screen protector. If anything, maybe a slip case. I mean, after all that coin scratching, scicssors scoring and blade cutting, it only came away with two scratches. The second was small enough that i found it hard to take a picture of. The one i could take a picture of is noticeable if viewed from a particular angle. Looking at it head on in normal use is not noticeable.
Plus if it does get that bad, the screens go for $20 bucks on ebay...
but then again, there is the question of resale though.... hhhmmm.
Anyway, i looked on the net and all i got was confused answers, take it from me chaps this is definitive. And ive got the scratch to prove it.
regards,
asmd.
Haha. You said chaps....... I remember the glass on my *gasp* blackberry storm being tough. I scratched it with everything and never once noticed anything. Never tried with my evo. Just too sexy of a phone

Some times the cheap ones work the best screen protector wise check out extreme guard or few others eBay there cheap and work well. I'm using a Kraken case to keep my new phone mint.
I have a watch that has a saphire crystal that is supposed to be unscratchble. I used to demo it when drunk rubbing the face on concrete. Well one night it actually did scratch, and it was a biggin. Luckily Rado replaced it for me free of charge. Lesson learned.

I use my phone naked since there's no way I'm putting a case on such a huge phone.
It's stood up really well, actually. I've dropped it on concrete a few times and the only noticeable signs are some indents on the plastic around the outer rim.
Though if you look closely, there's little chips missing from my screen. You could definitely scratch it pretty badly without too much effort in my opinion.
My phone has a zagg screen protector on it and I don't have any yellowing issues... however if your fingers are oily or wet (duh most peoples are ) then yeah it can have a tacky sort of feel. I usually just do a quick wipe of my index finger on my jeans before I touch my screen.

The screen protectors that came with are not bad but my phone is back to being completely naked ( oh noeesss!! ) but it seems to be fine.
glass wise no i wouldn't of tried this carrying this no shalantly in my pocket has shown its wear on the screen from random things in my pocket even though i "try" to keep it in its own pocket
