I am having a problem with Internet Sharing on the O2 network in the UK. This used to work with Orange with the same handset, but a different ROM. I am currently using Miri v28 but am considering whether to move to the latest v34. Is it likely to be a problem with the ROM? When Internet Sharing starts, it seems to get a connection to the network OK, but the laptop does not get an IP address - "This connection has limited or no connectivity". I have spoken to O2 who have advised to speak to HTC as the phone does not have a problem with connecting to their network.
Has anyone got any ideas?
P.S. The phone appears in Device Manager (in the Laptop running XP) as "Windows Mobile Internet Sharing Device" and there do not appear to be any problems with this in Device Manager.
Thanks!
could be the ROM, ICS works with my o2 phone. try disabling any other network devices on your PC an see if that makes any difference. its worth noting tho that using a mobile with ICS makes your PC view websites like a mobile, it can be quite enoying.

I work in IT and often need to conect to customer sites to resolve issues.
Many of our custoemrs allow me to have VPN access in.
This works a dream from XP PRO.
However I thought I would try and access 2 customers via VPN over WIFI from my MDA PRO which I have just upgraded to the latest T-mobile UK ROM.
I created my 2 connections both use PPTP.
I then tried to connect one of them , holding the stylus over the connection I wanted and selecting connect.
Nothing seems to happen.
Rebooted
tried again the same.
Disabled WIFI and tried over the usb connection and activesysnc, nothing.
How do you know when you are connected.
I removed the password info and tried to connect again.
Exepecting to be prompted for password.
nothing appears on the screen.
no error messages, I would expect to see conenction failed, or a disconnect option once you connect.
Am I missing something.???
I dont think your missing a thing, ive tried it before and never got it working through any connection method. bag of pap as they say
VPN only seems to work over t-mobile 3g not wifi
I can conenct via 3g but not wifi
Seems to be a device limitation
Update
I understand from T Mobile UK this is a problem that their UK partners cannot fix so they have passed it onto T Mobile in Germany who will raise it with their suppliers.
There is no promise of a fix or any idea of timescale
This works fine for me:
1.Set up VPN Connection in connection settings for th server you wish to use
2. - most important - in the advanced tab relating to above under Exceptions you need to enter the IP address of the computer you are trying to connect to
3. Go to Terminal services in Programs and enter the IP address of the cf the computer yo wish to connect to - and press Connect
Hopefully that may work for you

What am I missing? Where can you obtain the updated rom from? I cannot find it on the T-Mobile site.

Hi Guys
Sorry if ive posted this in the wrong place (Admins, feel free to move it if need be)
Well... My old iMate JasJar (HTC Universal) died completely last night, so today I went and got myself an OKTA Boss... Im pretty sure its an HTC Manufactured phone, just cant quite work out which model... But anyway... Onto my problem
I regularly work out of the office and rely on my PDA for internet access, I used to use the USB Dialer for WM5 with the JasJar and it worked just fine.
Now the new BOSS has WM6 so has Internet Connection Sharing... But I just cant get it to work...
Everytime I connect it the icon in the taskbar (Im running Windows XP SP2 and ActiveSync 4.5) searchs for the IP address and then fails to find an IP, coming up with a error in a bubble:
"There is limited or no connectivity on this network connection"
ActiveSync works fine, as does browsing and copying files to and from the phone within My Computer, but Internet Connection Sharing doesnt...
Heres what Ive tried so far...
-Turn off USB Connections in ActiveSync (on PC, have to do this anyway or PDA complains)
-Diabled Windows Firewall (on PC)
-Disabled or deleted all other network connections and old USB Modem drivers (on PC)
-Turned off "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" (on phone)
-Tried 3 Different PCs and 4 Different Cables (all with same results)
-Yelled @ various peices of IT equipment in my house LOL
So any ideas on how to fix this?
If not then my Screen Name is living up to its meaning.
mabey the phone is not getting gprs/edge?
Make sure you close the ActiveSync when it try to start, you can do it with the X Button
or simply use the
Setting > System > Memory > Running Program
select ActiveSync and the click Stop
If you do this quick the internet connection will up if you let the ActiveSync run long enough it will set up PC to your device connection for data syncronization/transfer only with no routing to internet.
Hope this help
Maybe Your service provider does not allow you to use your data connection to share with the pc, try using pdanet that way you can syncronise and use it for ICS at the same time

Double Post Sorry
Hi there, my Xperia (or WM6) has an issue that everytime I try to access the Internet even connected via USB or Bluetooth to my Internet connected laptop or via WiFi on it it always make a data connection to the mobile operator instead of using the existing connection.
I have just bought it and it is an amazing phone but can't use it 100% yet. I am an old user of WM so I tried a lot of things to help but nothing solves.
Could anyone help me?
settings->connection->connection->advanced-select network
and pick my home network or something like that
not being my isp or whatever your cellphone network settings are called
Hey all, I think Rim may be the only one with experience using Windows 7...so I ask...how in the world do you get WM6.5 to connect via USB to 7 and make internet sharing work? I've enabled data connections thru WMDC, and all seems well on the WinMo side..so I dunno what the deal is. Windows just tells me that its continually looking for an IP address for my connection, whole my Wing tells me that it's connected. Any help?
Hi Ashasaur,
Did you ever get anywhere with this?
I've been using my Touch Diamond (WM6.1) with Vista and surfing the web without problems... however having now upgraded to Windows 7 I'm stumbling at the same hurdle as you...
Having plugged the device in and run Internet Sharing on it I can connect okay to my ISP. At the same time, Windows 7 detects the appearance of a 'Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device' and I get a LAN connection under Network Connections. However, I can see that it is requesting an IP address using DHCP but getting nowhere...
Anyone with any tips?
Mathew
It works fine for me. I just plugged it in, ran Internet Sharing, and it worked. I didn't have to change any settings or anything.
Thanks for the reply ksj, I did eventually get it working.
In case anyone else has similar troubles, my solution (which I've posted here), is a simple workaround involving statically assigning an IP address as for some reason automatic assignment with DHCP was failing.

Good Afternoon,
I was wondering if someone could advise me on my connection issue I am having. I have bought the Acer neotouch s200 smartphone on windows mobile 6.5. I have a vodafone sim card with data allowance however I cannot connect to any other connection set up other than my standard carrier service connection which are set up my the phone registers the sim card.
When I try to set up my new connection and click to connect and instantly get the 'The remote party has ended this connection'.
These connection details are the same details as I use for my HTC HD2 and I connect with my sim without any issue. I am raking my brains as to what I can try because everything ive done so far seems right...
Many Thanks
Lucy
