Grtz,
Edit:
look at this post to see how you can add a specific program to the whitelist.
Degake
you can do this using a program called BsB Tweaks, which is available in the themes and applications section. It seems to work fine with word, excel and onenote, no need for it in powerpoint as it's always in landscape when you open a powerpoint file.
dekage beat me to it, you can change the registry as mentioned above or use bsb tweaks which can help you rotate other programs too.
degake & mndl632
wow that was really fast...thanks bros for the help. will tweak tweak tweak hahahah.
so happy...

I was just playing around with the transition effects in Ultimate Launcher, and I was thinking how cool it would be to have an ebook reader that was finger friendly (slide to turn page) and used the same transitions for page turns. I imagine you could just slide your finger across the screen and the page would curl and turn, or fade, or whatever effect you choose. I have no programming skills at all, and maybe I'm the only one who'd be interested in this, but it sure seemed like a cool idea.
I like the sound of that!!
There are all too few really good e-book apps out there. I would love something that would in corporate this. Why stop at turning the page? Why not use the gestures from HTC Album. For example to turn the page slide left or right, to change between landscape and portrait reading use the rotate gesture from HTC Album, maybe even zoom in and out using HTC Albums zoom in out gesture.
Good idea, wish I had the skill to get the ball rolling???!!!
diigibio
Also sounds like a good idea to me. Right now I used Microsoft reader but it's far from the best solution.
Picsel Proview
today i use picsel Proview.. to see documents (and .pdf)
it uses zoom capabilities... but there´s no such thingie like transition effects. AND its a memory hog.
it would be nice if A_C come with this.. using the S2* API.
omg.. this make sloth happy!
=P~
For ebooks, i use mostly Mobipocket reader - desktop version can import from a few popular formats (pdf, html, txt. Rtf and doc need MS office to be installed :/ )and create ebooks in its own format, which then can be sent to your phone/pda. It supports turning the page forward/back by touching the right/left edge of the screen, so you can read without using stylus or dpad. However if you want to open another book, you'll probably still need to use the stylus, or at least a fingernail
But something with more finger-friendly interface (especially for opening files) like S2V, iContact of pocketCM would be nice. And of course some cool transition effects wouldn't hurt too
Maybe we should ask A_C to create another good program from "Slide2" Series
and call it Slide2Read S2R ...!!!!

I Agree...
A_C read this.. please
I really wish I had any skill at coding and could do this myself. I think it would be a cool program. There probably just isn't enough demand to make it worth anybody's time. It was a nice idea though...
has someone here gotten the Microsoft Reader to work on WM6 ?
I have a few ebooks here that i'd like to read...

YEP, it works fine
Is there a version or mod of Microsoft Reader that works with 6.5.3? One that is finger-friendly.

not tht i could find one. i hunted lots
but then u can get it to wrk...its a pain to press the buttons at the bottom (showing page nos.) but once u get a hang of things, it aint tht bad. Currently reading PERFUME: STORY OF A MURDERER.....but then i wish the reader behaved better
u can also get this DVOLPAD (some name like tht) to read. It turns the volume keys into page up page down buttons....helps with MS Reader
hie guys what is the best keyboard based on your experience between resco keyboard and spb keyboard on the touch HD thanks
I tried the resco - it's got issues [as mentioned on the thread/wiki regarding what does and doesn't work on the HD]
Resco - the carriage return triggers annoyingly often unless you're absolutely 100% accurate....which really defeats the philosophy of much of the program IMO
Not tried the SPB on the HD - but seem to recall that the wiki states that doesn't work as well - dont quote me on that though - check it out
spb keyboard
I recommend you guys give a try to the new spb keyboard version 4.0..It is brilliant!

its good but then the other features like auto correct, word suggestion and auto correct only work in landscape mode and i use opera mini more than opera mobile and because opera mini will not rotate to landscape mode i therefore cannot use auto correct which i very much like as i chat and type a lot using opera mini.
Iv tried all those keyboards and now im using the latest version of touchpal and in my opinion that is the best iv used. check this video out from youtube to see how it works
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xfMrJ7Cci_A
I found Resco to be buggy. For no reason, the key preview popup stops whe you press a key. Also I hate not having a Control key. (Some of the downloaded skins look awful on the HD, fonts bunch up in one corner etc)
Spb is ok but I wish to god they would give us auto correct and word suggestion in portrait mode. Also I simply cannot get skins to work. If I download and install any skin, it does not become available in the options. Has anyone else had this trouble? any fix ???
TouchPal is buggy on my HD, some times it stops responding. I found that going into Remote Desktop to configure a client triggers this (but it happens elsewhere also)
So, they all have issues, they all have bloddy annoying issues. Is it to do with HD compabability or are they all badly coded and thought out ?
Please someone write a decent keyboard......

why is it that most of these demo videos on youtube are without sound ???
I'll add my recomendation for touchpal. I've tried all of them but touchpal is better than spb, resco and pocketcm.
The only thing that i find negative about touchpal is that it doesn't spread out in landscape, stays in the center. Looks a bit odd.
Here is a comparison between the different virtual keyboards.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-devices/review/2008/08/31/Touch-keyboards-for-Windows-Mobile/p1
I've just installed TouchPal but how do you activate the keyboard?
It's still stuck on the default HTC KB. I can't find no app icon for TouchPal or any sign of it in input setting etc.
Many thanks
I suggest you guys try this keyboard
Well to start with you are presented with graphics options, and I have to say the default skin is very pleasing to the eye.
This keyboard offers 5 (five) !!! different keyboard layouts, all in one single, very little memory consuming application.
Having 5 layouts it's very easy to find your perfect choice.
But there's more, you actually have tons of powerful options like T9 (with language customized dictionaries, including the ability to add your new words), or the drag-and-drop over the keys to move them as you like (yes, you can actually move the keys arround with a simple drag).
Another powerful thing I like is that you can change the keyboard's height, you can make it full screen, or to any size you like, the keyboard will just get to the size you indicate.
Honestly, there are so many features, that you can't miss this! It's much much better then resco or spb's keyboard, it simply surpasses them with strong features.
There is a trial version (the pro version) here , and a freeware version too. There are several videos there too that are very helpful for discovering the features.
non-htc keyboard issue
One thing I have noticed is that non-htc keyboards (including transcriber) do not generate address lists when writing in the email or sms address bar. I have not tried Tesco but spb and resco have this limitation. Has anyone found a way to overcome this problem?
Neither Resco nor SPB. try TouchPal

Does TouchPal bring up phone numbers when typing in sms addressee?
I truly admire people who are able to use TouchPal efficiently, but I'm not one of them. I tried it as my only input method for about a month, making an effort to investigate all the tips and tricks and shortcuts. In the end I found it to be clumsy and over-engineered. I downloaded a trial of SPB 4 and within 2 hours had paid the $15 for the full version. It is easy to use in portrait or landscape and has a CTRL key on the default keyboard. It just behaves the way I expect a keyboard to work and doesn't expect me to learn anything about it in order to get the most out of it.
Danish layout
If I purchase a keyboard for my future HD, will it then automatically have a danish layout with the danish letters such as "å,æ, and ø"?
Hope someone knows the answer
Thanks in advance
EDIT:
Btw, sorry for off-topic..
True about Resco keyboard buggyness.
Spb keyboard 4.0 runs much smoother.
Very nice feature by switching full screen to mid screen.
Ned to try it in Opera Mobile.
Do you rely need all those layouts?
What about auto correct and stuff in other languages?
PS.: If you come across spb keyboard 4.0 k e y msg me!
I'd be happy with my Spb full-screen keyboard if the damn thing would just stay as the default after a soft reset! If anyone knows this, please feel free to chime in.
EDIT: Yes, I already tried SIPchange, and having a prog crash after every soft reset is not cool either.

I searched for this as well; SKTools does the trick. It can't trick the system to use SPB Keyboard as default, but it changes the SIP to whatever you like, in background, after every reset (you need to specify a long enough delay so that the TF3D can load before that - I set mine to 40 seconds and it works as it should). Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Rok
in my opinion, Touchpal is the best among all the keyboards I have tried. For those trying to set default keyboard and fail, try using SIPChange and set the time to 30 seconds. Mine works without problem with Touchpal. Hope it helps.
Help. Does anyone have a suitable Shiftpack or any other program for reading pdf files in the liberated Shift WinMo side? Thx in advance.
pocketxpdf - free PDF reader for windows mobile
It's a CAB file rather than Shiftpack, but is a very easy install, and is small enough to mail it to yourself or download on GPRS. It has some nice features - rotation and fullscreen, so you can turn your Shift into an eBook reader just slide out the keyboard enough to expose the arrow keys to turn the page.
http://pocketxpdf.sourceforge.net/
There are probably more fully featured ones out there but I have been using this for months with no problems.
Matthew
Thanks Matthew. I love the size of that programme! I downloaded and installed the pdf reader. It works alright but I guess I will need to play with it for a little longer to optimize the performance.
Any other goodies for the shift that you can link us with other than the usual Shiftpacks?
Ed.
other goodies
I think that the only one I really love which a few other people have mentioned is QuickMenu. It's free and replaces the start menu with a more configurable version that gives you the ability to kill running apps, rotate the screen and configure short-cut keys.
You can get it from various sites:
http://pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=2132
The one thing that irks me the most about my Imagio is that the screen will only go to landscape for the camera, the VCAST TV, and the Internet Browsers. With anything else only portrait is available. I would really love to be able to make it go landscape for other programs. I have found a couple of free routines that will set the phone to do this but they won't work because the Net Framework on the phone is the wrong version (go figure an older version of Framework would be placed in the most up to date version of windows). Can anyone tell me what is the best routine that will allow me to toggle landscape mode at will on the Imagio?
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=92385
or just download the new .net framework
Thank you so much. I'll try what was listed. Does anyone know why the latest .NET CF isn't installed in Win Mo 6.5? Why would Microsoft not have the latest in the latest OS?
I have 3.5 installed on mine and I'm using Gyrator 2 to rotate my screens around
Great plugin

Well I followed the instructions for editing the registry and changing the orientation for the TF3D screens works great. Now what about the other programs such as Word and Excel? Do I have to do all the same registry edits for those or only part of the edits? Thanks for all the help guys. I'm about to get the phone the way I like it.

Was 3.5 already installed on your device when you bought it or did you have to install it? How do I find out what version of .Net CF is install on the phone?
I don't know what version I had
I found by using gyrator and changescreen for screen rotation is buggy, slow, and sometimes pages seem to get scrambled. I don't need rotation in all apps that's why I installed g trigger, available here. I have it set up to jerk the phone from side to side and this toggles screen orientation. I also set it up to have the dialer come up when you flick the phone forward and to close programs when you flick it away. It really works great, no crashing. And there are no accidental orientation change. Not to mention it saves you the "phone" softkey and you don't have to try to hit the "X" in the corner anymore. Try it, it is a cab install, and removes completely if you don't like it.
Hope this hasn't been posted before. Had a look around and couldn't see in the searches. Apologies if it has
Obviously the phone comes with Word/Excel etc but they don't seem to go to landscape view when rotated. The same goes for viewing movies in Windows Media Player.
How can these be made to go landscape? I understand there's an app called G-Config, but when I tried to use it, it mentioned a stylus which the phone doesn't have. If someone could give walkthrough instructions I'd be mega grateful!
Thanks,
Pete
Just take BSB-Tweaks 1.6 and add the desired apps to rotate. The prog is a musthave anyway...
greets
WMP doesnt rotate, you have to press the icon far left (first) square with arrow in it.
Just like WMP on pc, to get full screen.
When playing vids, it will turn them landscape once pressed.

Do you really think you are the first person on the whole of xda to post about having issues with putting apps into landscape on hd2? Search harder.
Here is a full explanation of how rotation works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589570&highlight=rotating+apps+registry
You could edit the registry yourself or use a third party app like bsb tweaks as has already been suggested.
I would recommend gyrator 2 though.... you can simply setup one rule with this app that rotates every screen through all 4 orientations.
Works perfectly.
