I have a problem,
purchasing a program, I get asked for id or name of the phone synchronization.
I thought it was the name I put myself, but I already bought two software that I'm not saying that the record code is not valid.
What is my mistake?
I attach a screenshot showing the name I post
You have to put your first and last name inside "Me" (My Contact Card). Phone -> All People -> Me.
The picture you have shown is related to the name of your phone when its verified inside a network.
but the software I bought with the wrong name, can I use it or I have to re-Own with the correct name?
In the HTC HD2 the button for "User Information" is missing, But some programs like G-Alarm needs this information.
Please install this *.cab and after soft reset the button for user information is available again.

As long as you are using the standard HTC Sense (rather than a cooked ROM) as has been explained above, all you need to do is fill in the 'Me' card in HTC Contacts.
This automatically creates the old 'Owner Information' data in the registry.
volitans: you need to establish which ID is being asked for. Sometimes it is Owner Information, sometimes it is your Email address and sometimes it can be a system generated ID. The help files for the program you are trying to install should explain what you need.

I have downloaded the * .cab link to the downloads in the phone's My Documents. The link has not downloaded as a usable file. Any ideas. Where will I find the button for the user information?

I had the exact same problem when I tried to install Resco Explorer. I used the bluetooth name of the device. I emailed support at Resco and was told (as has already been explained) to go to my contact card in my contacts (all people) and change my name to the name that I had registered the software in. In your case VOLITANS_1. It is case sensitive
Try putting the whole name in just the first name field of sense 'me' card

Not sure if it will help, but this page shows how you can change the owner information name on the HD2:....actually, as a new user it won't let me post a URL, but web search for 'how to set HTC HD2 owner information' and you'll find it.

Thanks, this is by far the best solution I found for this problem. I was using SPB mobile shell and there was no way I could get the Owner name which I needed badly to register other programs like Sprint DB. Well done!

The CAB archive (1103 Bytes) contains 2 files, "_setup.xml" (696B) and "HD2BEN~1.000" (243B). I assume "install this *.cab" means double-click the "_setup.xml", but where and how must I do this? On the desktop PC while the HD2 is connected to it through an USB cable and ActiveSync, or on the HD2 while it is disconnected, or else? If on the HD2, is it from an SD card, or from a folder on the HD2? If on the desktop, under which OS does this work? Sure it won't work on my W7 Ultimate laptop, but will it on my XP Pro 32bit sp3 Multilingual with ActiveSync 4.5 (which works OK despite the "ActiveSync works only with Windows XP SP2 or earlier" warning)? On which HD2: any ROM, or HTC original only? TIA,

Instead of taking the time to write your paragraph, you could have just googled "How to install cab HD2".
I really wonder why not so many people try to figure stuff out themselves.
To install: copy cab to HD2, run from within WinMo using any file explorer.

My thanks for this timely and helpful phrase. And my indulgence for"taking the time to write" your rant. Ridiculously irrelevant BTW: how did I find this thread, if not with an appropriate search request? Once found this, what is the most useful to me and to others: start a new search and find other threads that also require more Qs and As before concluding? or more directly ask the one (here ox_eye) who brought the 1st helpful step?
My conclusion: please concentrate on what you do right (here your "copy cab to HD2", but also your "How to install cab HD2", for once a condescending self-appointed guru deigns to provide a search term, a right one in addition - even if here obviously useless given the context).

Apparently, you misunderstood the rule that says "Search before posting". That, or your definition of "appropriate" is different.
You're not supposed to just "search", but rather to find what you're looking for without the help of others.
I will not guide you further, just search and you will find answers.
P.S: Which translator are you using? So much vocabulary without much sense (at least to me).

The point of Marvlesz is to search before posting (one of the most important rules on xda).Cabs for windows mobile existed at least for about 10 years or so, so how to install them should be very easy to find on xda or on any search engine.
And PLEASE use less intense vocabulary as simplicity is the best way to go and to let others understand your ideas. I wasted several minutes of my life D) trying to understand the first paragraph:crying:

Yourselves as well don't search for every phrase or question. You perfectly understood (if ever you read before posting, that is) that I did search for the various issues involved (about Owner Information, and about Editing Registry). OTOH about installing CAB, the answer was apparently right on front of everyone and available with a simple question - assuming this forum had civilized manners, that is.- so you would probably have asked here as I did (while probably spending less time than I did to make the question clear, forthcoming and easy to understand). Now be sure that I understand well that XDA Forums don't want to get populated with fresh people bringing something new or liking helpful and pleasant circles (and in addition tolerant with visitors who didn't learn English at school). Don't bother, I already refrain from visiting here, and your recall will be very efficient for the follow-on.

Hi Everbody,
I am Shailesh Ashar and this is the first time I am getting my hands dirty with Windows Mobile development.
So here is a little app that I developed : Group SMS Solution.
As the name suggest it is basically a program to send smses to a group of people at the same time.
Foll. are the features:
1. Category Wise Contact Pickup
2. Individual Contact Pickup made easy
3. works with WM5 and WM6.
4. Seems to be moderately paced as it is written using managed code but does the job well.
5. It is free.
PREREQUISITES:
.NET Compact framework 2
download here :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55&displaylang=en
DISCLAIMER:
This program is written using managed code so it technically cannot harm your windows mobile device but anyways do not blame me for anything.

To Download go to http://shaileshashar.110mb.com/groupsms.php
Feel free to link to the download page but please do not link directly to the cab files. I want some traffic on my website.

Hi Shailesh,
This is certainly a very nice and extremely useful app for WM devices.
I've tested it briefly on my WM5 Herald and it works great. I do have a few minor bug reports and feature suggestions for your next version:
1. When contacts belong to multiple custom groups, it lists the same group twice with a space before the group name. So if some contacts are in the group called Ping and others are in the group called Pong and yet others are in both groups, it will list "Ping", "Pong" and " Ping" and " Pong"
2. Could you possibly add a context menu for the text editor where you do Cut/Copy/Paste rather than the Paste from Clipboard button?
3. In the final screen, if you press Back, it takes you right back to the first text entry screen rather than just one screen back.
Will test and give you any further inputs soon.
Thank you for the excellent app that you've given to the community for free!

Signature
I know this sounds like the lazy way to do things, but if you make a signature and then go through each reg key, you may find it. I just did that the other day and found all the call forwarding numbers.

I did and used a reg editor search function and nothing. It is probably not plain text as some of the owner info is not plain text either, but some was so that is how I found that one.
Nope
I've tried exactly that - in fact that was my first thought - but didn't find as much as a dead fly. So I was hoping the gurus on this site might be able to point me in the right direction.
I just discovered a new update for the Shift - this time in the telephone software section.
My download using GMS will take about six hours...
Any experiences with this update???

Where?
Where can you see that update? In HTC official web-page I haven't found anything like that...
Hi,
you can find it in HTC Club. To go there you have to register first. I've just read it and I do not really understand it. It sounds to me as if they talked about a different device. And I think my ROM to be newer than the one they offer there. But as I said it does not make sense to me.
It is so strange. They talk of start and settings and usb connection and so on, but that is not supposed to work unless it was liberated. So that's why I do not understand what they are talking about. Can anyone clarify?
S.
I have nothing in "Phone software updates"
or should I look elsewhere?!

Hi,
you find it in HTC Clulb. Go to "My Downloads" and then "Phone Software Update". And there you see the a picture of the Shift.
I don't want to install it, because the instruction says that everything is lost and I am under the impression that the software is older than the one on my Shift.

Hi Einsiedler,
do you really want to install the download? Isn't the ROM in your Shift newer than the one you are downloading? I compared the screenshot on the page with the information I found in Snapvue. Cannot find the "device information" when I go over "start" and "settings". Isn't all very strange as this possibility isn't supposed to work? I do not get it.
S.
I'll download it (still three hours left) and check this page again tomorrow morning.
Resetting the WM side would at least give me another 14 days playing with the Palm emulator...

Very strange update indeed. It seems that it is for the German version Shift only and furthermore for older ROM-Versions. The ROM-Version to compare in a picture shown is dated 05/10/07 (Number 1.06.405.1 WWE). My Shift is one of the first delivered in Germany and its ROM-Version is 1.30.407.0 GER) - so it seems to be way younger then the one in the illustration.
Before downloading the 67,5 MB-file you have to confirm a serious warning that any program or data stored by you will be lost after installing the update. If you confirm - did it on my notebook, not on the Shift! - you get the message: "This will install TM2008_GER Version 16.00.1449 on your computer."
"TM" apparently means "Trend Micro" because the file creates the folder "Trend Micro" and expands itself therein to the folder "setup". So IMO it's only an update of the internet security software. By the way: I run "Trend Micro" and my version number is 16.10.1106 - way younger than the download version as well.
So what? Another example of the strange behaviour of a strange company. That's all.
r.
PS: I was unable to upload the file ("Database error").

I'm not german so dont have the file in htcclub
but if you are sure it is TM then lol.
you can still upload it to rapidshare.com, i'd like to see it.
(the xda-devs attachments can't be larger than 8MB, that's why your upload failed)
For the Phone software update, if you've register a htc smartphone or wm phone, the update is for those phones.
If you registered shift only, there's no update software inside the PSU !
here you find the screenshot from the htc webste (htc e-club):
http://rapidshare.com/files/112150020/htc.jpg.html
here you can download the file: http://rapidshare.com/files/112149681/TM2008_GER.exe.html
yeah that screenshot explains, it is a generic page that the phone update software link will show you if there is an update.
but I guess they intended this trendmicro thing for the other downloads section, they just made an error and uploaded it to phone update section.
in my country they'd call this thread "storm in a glass of water"
i agree.....
Hi,
so things seem to have become much clearer and I do not have to upload the file anymore. Seems that some of you folks do not need any sleep.
I do not know too much about all these things, but apparently I was right that it was a very strange update, as it isn't an update at all or a falsely declared one.
In the tread "HTC sucks" someone made the suggestion to start a blog in which to make public the ridiculous support of HTC. As I said I do not know enough about the way to do these things, but done it should be. HTC really, really sucks when it comes to support. I have sent them several emails. Nothing but a standardized answer that they will answer in some cosmic future.
S.
This update has Nothing to do with WM rom!
The setup file unpacks to ...program files/trend micro/... and so I aborted the installation. No bad results, but waste of time.
Have a nice and sunny weekend.

Hi guys (and ladies).
Just spent half a day with the phone and have bunch of questions:
1. Do I need to install DH2 ROM? What are the benefits? (I did a lot of hacks on symbian, but it looks like tutorials on this forum meant for hackers or professionals. is there a ROM for dummies tutorials some place here?
The other is more simple questions:
2. Imported contacts have "w" for waiting before extension numbers. Phone seams to ignore them. How to dial with extensions?
3. How to lock phone while talking on BT headset
4 I saw a lot of tips involving registry changes. What editor to use for that?
5. I downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 from MS. it looks like not support BT sync. Am I doing something wrong or software needs to be used?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

and I would guess most of the people on this forum do have at least some development experience (not necessarily for WinMo devices, but still), and would probably not bother to explain things that seem to them as basic/elementary, but would try explaining if asked.
2 - try replacing the "w" with a "," (comma), or replacing the "w" with a "p"
3 - dont know, never tried
4 - I use totalcommander for windows mobile, it's free - search for it on google
when starting it - click on the [\] (top right), double click \\plugins, double click registry - and you're there
5 - dont know, never tried

Have a look at "Connection Settings" in AS on PC and "Connect via Bluetooth" in AS at the phone.

CeRegEditor works on the pc when activesynced.
Much less laborious than pocket pc reg editors.
You can also bookmark reg's, compare registries to isolate and locate reg's, and backup reg's.
To isolate a reg entry, you save the reg, then make a change, then compare before & after reg's to find keys.

All,
Thanks for the replies. It’s a start for me.
1. My wife's HD2 froze on her when she was playing with her. I did soft reset for her, but she will not do it on her own. I'm afraid if it will happen again the phone goes back to store. Not to complaint, but this was the reason I switch to symbian and never had a problem – NEVER!!!!
But never the less, what we can do to minimize this? (Any program that restarts HD2 with one click?) Or anything else like can close all programs with one click? My wife will not go to task manager until it’s too late.
2. One more question. do i need TC for ARM, x86 or anything else?
3. As for Som30ne remark, I’m not trying to be sarcastic but here what the tutorial says and do not understand it. I need laterally ROM upgrade for dummies like what is HSPL or SPL or what tools to use or where to start. Most of you somehow got to that point.
“DarkForces Team HardSPL by bepe and Cotulla
Please read carefully before installing!
1) To install this HSPL there must be SPL 1.42.0000 on your device.
Otherwise the installation will fail!
To check your SPL version, hold the Volume Down button and do a reset.
It is possible to downgrade to this SPL, by just flashing to an Official ROM
with this SPL version.”
Thanks
what i miss THE MOST is the voice dialing in E71.... i just had my phone language set to romanian and this was it... just press and speak the name...

There is a cab for led notifications - do a search
- Can i get pop up delivery reports?
Should be an option in the messaging options, i think?
And last but not least

Built in task manager is good, also try Arkswitch or MMTaskmanager

The second post will help with general info about your new HD2!
LED notifications don't seem to operate in the same way as all the other HTC devices for some reason! I only ever get a blinking green LED when I have a missed SMS, but nothing else. I have been unable to find anything the reproduces this... but a search will take you to a thread detailing a mod which will make the lights around the buttons blink on missed call/SMS/mail etc..
Delivery reports can be switched on - try using something like BSB Tweaks to toggle reports
Another search should let you find something called QuickMenu - which serves a number of purposes, amongst which is a simple task manager, which allows you to "kill" unwanted tasks from running - it also gives you a "classic" style Start button!
Hope these help!
Remember, MOST things can be found on here, so don't be afraid to search - you can almost guarantee you won't be the first person to ask!!!
Enjoy your new phone!!
LOL! By the time I had posted, someone else had beat me to it!! Plenty of ppl wanna help!!
cd78 - This is going to sound like a really stupid question. But what is a cab?
As to the Delivery Reports im pretty sure as im with 02 i dont get them, just wondered if there was anything i could download. Thankyou for you answers though
namwollem - Another really stupid question but what is BSB tweaks and where can i find it?
ill do a search for that quick menu and have a look into. Thanks for the help though
I feel right out in the deep end as if just upgraded from a blackberry and wow the HD2 is technical. Ive got a lot of learning to do lol.

A .cab is basically a "cabinet" for the software/file - you download it, or drag and drop it onto your sd card (through your pc) then click it in file explorer (on the phone) and it will extract and you can select where to install the program.
Look in the themes and apps section of this forum for lots of useful things and use the search bar

Hmmm, good point about Delivery reports on O2 - I had heard that the network doesn't offer them, but I could be wrong on that count. If I'm not, that does pose a problem because if the network doesn't send anything, there is no way of the phone knowing the result of a sent text. :-(
A .CAB file is an installation file. (Short for CABinet - an old Windows term) You would transfer the CAB to your phone and run it from there to install the relevant software contained within the CAB onto your phone.
BSB Tweaks is a program which has LOADS of tweaks and mods which can be easily selected by a simple ON/OFF interface - and makes making these small mods MUCH easier than trawling through the registry for new users!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305&highlight=BSBTweaks is a link to where you can find it!
Cd78 - Thanks for the help, ill do a search in the themes and apps and see what i can come up with. With the .Cab files if i download one and put it onto my device via the windows mobile device center then do the extraction on the phone. Will that work?
namwollem - I know thats the problem im hoping if i can get the BSB tweaks the SMS sent notification will work.
As with the BSB Tweak Thread, i cant seem to find a link to download the programme. Where can i find this? And for the installation on my HD2 is it practically the same as download a .cab file? Sorry for all the questions :/ but one last one do i need to download anything to be able to install the BSB tweaks? Its just i saw on the important note at the top of the thread that .NetCF 3.5 is required. Is this true?
Apologies for all the questions, im really not too sure how to do most of these tech things on my HD2 and i dont want to do it wrong and have an expensive brick lol
Thanks for all your help though guys you'v ebeen great

bsb tweaks can be very helpful, but do not turn on the screen sensitivity or tap time tweaks or your phone screen will be inoperable while in call....
nrfitchett4 - Thanks for the advice. And the attachment of BSB Tweaks.
So to install on my phone i would need to download the attachment and transfer the .cab file to my phone via the Windows mobile device centre and then find the .cab file through the file explorer and extract it, then follow installation. Is that right? or is there an easier way?
Sorry for the really basic questions.

If you have a PC/laptop with Bluetooth, that is probably the easiest way - its the way I move files to and fro. Or if you have a card reader on your PC/laptop, you can copy all the CABs and other files you want onto your memory card, and then transfer the card into your phone, and off you go!
As for whether BSB will enable delivery reports, thats a "No" I'm afraid, it will only react to what you network send out. I do recall reading that if you prefix your text message on O2, you could get a delivery report, how true that is I don't know, but I am sure I have read it in a couple of places. I'll have a look into it for you, and come back to you!
O2 Delivery Reports
As I am not on O2 myself, I cannot check this, but apparently, the following will allow you to receive a delivery report from the O2 network.
Start a new text message and before you begin typing your message, enter
*0# followed by a space and then your message, the other person does not see the code but you will get a message back saying when it has been delivered.

I assume by Windows Mobile Device Centre, you have either Vista or Se7en installed on your PC. I am an XP man myself, but I assume that it is essentially the same as ActiveSync (which XP uses to connect to Windows Mobile devices). Once your phone is connected, you can use the explorer to navigate "into" your device, and copy the CABs of your choice into your phone, so you can run them at your leisure.
If I have missed anything I apologise as I don't know WMDC myself, but I'm sure someone on the forum would be able to help you out on that one!

Seeing as the .NET 3.5 for Windows Mobile is freeware, hopefully posting the two CABs here will not be a problem (needless to say they are COPYRIGHT MICROSOFT).
View attachment dotnet3.5.zip <<< Download here!!
unZIP this file on your PC and transfer the two CABs to your phone, and run them. One will install the actual .NET framework itself, and the other is for error debugging and diagnosis etc..
If posting this causes a problem and a MOD removes them, a search on google should point you to another download location!

Sorry for slow reply, I've been tied up with work for the last couple of days! I don't actually use the Manila clock myself, but I have read that many people don't like the excessive flipping it does when you first goto the home screen. If this is what you mean, there is a modification which will stop it from doing that....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583161
Otherwise, another option is to install the Cookies Home Tab, which allows you many customisations of the Manila home screen (which includes clock faces etc).!

Hope that this will help you!
