And search the forum, here are already many threads about that.

I got lost on the certification part... sorry. I had a good friend help me set t up.
You know, the search function of the forum is a powerfull tool.
If you used it, you'd figure out there are a lot of threads already about this.
Here's one for you to start with.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41788&highlight=push+mail+doc
On page 2 there is a link to a site that contains a word document on howto set it up. Try that first.
I have it working but not 100%.
Ok, so I have a server running in my office with MS Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 SP2. As of now, I do not have any SSL certificates on the server. I feel this "might" be the problem, but i'm too inexperienced with Exchange as of now, and Active Sync for that matter. I want to be able to Sync of the GPRS network while on the road with my exchange server to download new e-mails and sync up my sent e-mails, etc etc etc. The problem is when I try to sync it seems like it will work, then gives me a message saying that the domain url is incorrect or something like that. I played around with it a lot before I found this forum. If you need the specific error message and I screw around with it again, because as of now, I just have it syncing with my local computer. Thanks. Also, if I do need SSL certs, where do I go for that...on the cheap side or even on the free side!
Shoot me a PM with some details. I'm about to walk out the door for a few hours, but I can definitely help you out.
Specifically, make sure you mention what errors are showing up in the Event Viewer.
I'll PM you tomorrow, because Cingular dicked me out and forgot to setup my unlimited data plan so my bill is 390 bucks, til i call and have them change it. But I need them to change it before I start messing with this again. So i'll hit you up sometime tomorrow probably. Thanks.
Ok, first you do not need SSL unless your server requires it. Just make sure the SSL check box on the first settings page (on the device) is unchecked.
Next, go to whom ever is in charge of the server (system administrator or something) and check the exact domain name (required on the second page). The domain and the server address are different urls (at leas for my company). Something I didn't know at first and was unable tho sync.
Hope that helps.

Not really, I am running the server myself. I'll mess around with it more soon, once i get this issue resolved with Cingular, I just thought maybe there was a specific way to get it to work.
I hope you don't resolve this via PM.
Our new Sbs/Exchange server arrives today and I'd like to see how this works out.

if you want...when and if I get it resolved, i'll post how on this forum. I can't believe that no one has set this up before on this forum.
we've been succesful at using 8125 and Exchange since 03-06.
Make sure you have PDA connect
Exchange 2003/SP2 (with or without SSL will work depending on your security requirements)
Active Sync 4.1 or greater.
Works better with 2.25 ROM
Older ROM 1.8 after unsuccesful attempts to sync will reset the server config schedule to Manual

what is PDA connect? I have Exchange 2003 w/ SP2. Where do I check to make sure the security requirements are right? Running Active Sync 4.1 with 2.25 ROM. Thanks
Here is a great place to start:
http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/index.php?showtopic=6106&hl=exchange
It is based on pre-push, but the setup is really no different. You do need SP2 for Exchange 2003 and a WM5 with the MSFP installed to actually get push, but there is no additional configuration to switch from pull to push.
ok, so finally here is the info. Hopefully you can help me.
The error on my phone is: ActiveSync encountered network problems or an internal server error while synchronizing.
Support Code: 0x85010015
My info.
Server address: mail.getztek.com (i tried mail.getztek.com/exchange but it removes the exchange part)
SSL is OFF.
Username: Zack (and I tried getztek\Zack as well)
Password: it is right
Domain: getztek (this is the NETBIOS name)
Let me know if you can help.
Ok Denial, here you go:
0x85010015
ActiveSync encountered network problems or an internal server error while synchronizing. This kind of error is frequently returned when Exchange Server runs out of memory. Typically, this condition is temporary. Try to synchronize again later.

The server is far from being out of memory. There is over 200 MB of free RAM on the server. Just for sh1ts and giggles, i'm going to uninstall the Trend Micro ScanMail so that there is nothing else that could be interfearing with this.
lol, that doesn't help at ALL, thanks for the google is a great thing crap. I really didn't just jump on here asking for help. I googled the crap out of this.
Edit: I dunno why http://mail.getztek.com is showing the RealVNC thing. I never even installed it on that server...
I am sorry I tried to help you. Perhaps you will find the answers you need from someone else. Good luck!

I am not ungreatful you tried to help, far from it in fact. I just don't appreciate the sarcasm by just assuming I never googled this topic. If you don't help, then you don't help.
You need to lose the attitude. You come in here asking for help, don't know a thing about me, and assume I am trying to be a jerk. The first part of the post was help. The second was information on how you can help yourself, which is ALWAYS a better learning experience. Did you indicate you had done ANY research before posting here? No, you did not. You talk in circles around some very vague errors but not until the post I responded to did you offer any real information about what problem you were specifically having.
When you ask for help, try to be a bit more gracious to the people trying to offer it. Even if the answers you get are wrong, at least someone is trying to help.

your right, i'm sorry. Its been a stressful couple of days and trying to get this stupid thing to work is making me want to pull my hair out.
1) You do not need an SSL certificate for this to work, but if you are not using one to secure your server it is only a matter of time before the server no longer belongs to you. Secure your server.
2) Can you connect your device to your computer and sync with the server? Again, NOT syncing with your local outlook but with the Exchange server.
3) Assuming you are using a device wih WiFi, can you sync on your internal network over WiFi to the exchange server?
The first step is getting it to work inside your firewall. Then you can move out to OTA.
Hi all,
We have some HTC Hero's in my office and they have been connecting fine to the MS Exchange Servers for our e-mails fine through active sync.
But yesterday the IT Guys updated the Security Certificates and now we get an error message telling us that the site is not trusted anymore.
We have been sent some updated certificates for windows mobile phones, they are .p7c file, and some files called certificate.cer and intcertificate.cer.
My question is do these files work ok on the android O/S and they arent going to mess up the phone?
Thanks for any support you can offer,
I've not had a problem like this following our exchange certificates being updated. They've just worked
Only thing I could suggest is that you have SSL turned on in your exchange account settings on the Hero.
Hi,
In my organisation, the certificate for OWA is signed by a self signed CA. The first time I synched my Hero, it told me the certificate was invalid. I clicked on the Allow button, it never bothered me again.
I didn't find anyway to import external certificate (CA or server), but it doesn't seem to be needed.
Hi,I have the same question about sync to exchange2007.
At first ,you choice the allow button,it not bother you only at the live session.
If you restart you Hero, it told again, It's so unconfortable.
How to join the .cer file in the android? If the system believe the .cer, maybe it's working well.
Does anyone know the answer to this one?
People
Since last week i had sleepless nights trying to get my direct push email , Global address book working with my exchange server. I tried everywhere but there was little to go on.
Few min back i got this going and the elation has quickly changed to sharing back to the forum.
And Yes , it has to do with installing certificate on the device. I checked with my Iphone and Android owning colleagues and they can do complete MS exchange server sync inspite of getting the certificate warning but not Microsoft. It seems they are crucifying their own lot only.
So this is how it starts -
- ask your admin for the certificate or else go to the web exchange address and on the address tab click on the lock sign which is displayed. This is the certificate you would need for your device. Click on the lock and copy the certificate thumbprint ( assuming you know how to make it into a .cer file). Install this .cer on device root and install. go to security tab - certificates on the deicce and make sure the certificate is shown as installed in there.
I guess this would do the job. Hope this dope might help some of you.
Cheers!
Shailen

Hi rdashora, under settings, Cellular you need to edit and enter the APN for for your service provider. You may need to search online for the correct string.
Exchange worked fine on my end...i must say that this has to be the best exchange capable Os out there. My work emails render as faithfully as they do on my desktop
Thanks, it works

Why have you posted this question in this thread?
Unfortunately, unlike iOS and Android, WP7, like WinMo before it, still does not accept unsigned certificates.
With iOS and Android, you can choose to accept te unsigned cert after viewing a warning. Microsoft still don't allow this.
To get it working you have to setup an email account that works (gmail/hotmail) and email yourself the root certificate for the exchange domain. You can then install on the device from the email. After that, you can now attach to you Exchange server.
It's a bit of a hassle and one that there's really no reason not to support along with the appropriate warnings.
worked data connection
The answer was given,
Enter cellular menu. there, add "APN" option is available. Enter here your own countrymen, the GSM operator information...
I worked very well. but too bad the app to be paid.
I still say android2.3 much better operating system.
Hello:
i have another problem related to exchange the user name name of my account has two word as "name surname". When I tried to configurate my excahnge account I cannot introduce any space on the username field.
Does anybody know any trick to solve the problem?
Any registry key to change where user name is stored? As know the automatic system of WP7 detected my username as the first part of my e-mail address (ex. [email protected] the user name detected is name.surname instead of name surname)
Any trick to force the keyboard to write spaces?
If I do not find a solution I will have to come back to 6.5 as I need my HD2 for work.
thanks in advance for your help.

That is weird, you say ur username has a space in it? I didnt think that was possible??? I would contact ur IT dept on that one.
Yes, my user name has a space in it. but not just mine also all the rest of my organization. Everybody gets the user name as 'name surname'. I already contact IT department and they told me they will not change nothing for security policy.
I have had 5 windows mobile phone, 3 androids and several symbian and I never got any problem, it was always possible to wirte my user name with the space. :-(
Hi, I'm having the same problem now. I was running either BOYPPCs or HD2Os (i can't remember) NODO rom and I could sync with my companies exchange no problems. However I installed the mango beta yesterday and now I have a certificate error, I tried going back to XBMODs nodo rom and it didn't work either. I know all these roms come from the same base, but could there be different certificates floating around?
