I installed a few programs last night, IM+, Scrub (the address book utility) and the tweak to make the quick launch buttons on a 4x4 grid.
Since then I had an extra set of HTC shortcuts appear in my start menu but all with blank icons. I checked in start menu in file explorer and noticed two sets of each:
HTC Messages
HTC_Messages
HTC Calendar
HTC_Calendar
etc etc.
I deleted all the _ ones from the shortcuts and they went. Next time I checked, all the correct icon ones had disappeared and the blank ones reappeared.
So now I have only the blank icon ones!!
Anyway of getting them back without a reinstall????
Currently in my start menu folder are the non underscore ones. Interestingly, the HTC Messages has kept its correct icon.
i have the same problem as the above, can anyone help??
Yep, i am also facing this problem, im guessing its the 4x4 grid because thats the only same things ive installed, im trying to delete them. to be honest its not something you need in the start menu because you can much easily access it in the home today!

i understand, its juz annoyin to see 2 blank icons
think i will del them off like u till someone comes up with a solution....
i've got the same problem, but managed to fix it
problem:
original shortcuts we're "HTC_Calendar", "HTC_Messages" and "HTC_People"
after installing few programs new shortcuts appeared "HTC Calendar", "HTC Messages" and "HTC People" with blank icons on them
if you try to delete these new shortcuts, they will be recreated after every soft reset you make
solution:
1) delete original shortcuts named "HTC_Calendar.lnk", "HTC_Messages.lnk" and "HTC_People.lnk"
2) use any registry editor and open [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start]
3) rename folders in registry: "HTC_Calendar.lnk" to "HTC Calendar.lnk", "HTC_Messages.lnk" to "HTC Messages.lnk" and "HTC_People.lnk" to "HTC People.lnk"
p.s. this solution is not pefrect, but do the trick...

I had this problem too after moving shortcuts around on my Verizon HTC Touch Pro2...but I didn't change my registry. Perhapes if you put your registry back to normal and try this it will help.
I fixed mine by renaming the shortcut from "HTC Calendar.lnk" to "HTC_Calendar.lnk" using Total Commander -- soft reset and it's fixed.
Oh, and after renaming it with an underscore, it still appears as spaces in the start menu.
Ok i have had this problem too with HTC_music, HTC_people and HTC_calendar. The generic icons appeared when i decided to move them into a sub folder in the start menu. This appears to be the same for all other icons.
OK so i have found the correct combination frorm other comments in this thread to fix the problem.
1) Leave the original shortcuts named "HTC_Calendar.lnk", "HTC_Messages.lnk" and "HTC_People.lnk" in the start menu folder
2) use any registry editor and open [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start]
3) Working inside the folders (HTC_calendar.lnk etc etc) with the underscore, make sure each folder has registry entries: Default, Group, Icon, Name, Rank.
Usually some are present some are not so copy and paste the registry keys between each folder, for example HTC_calendar and HTC calendar.
3) Make sure that the Icon key references the correct png file, e.g. \Windows\HTC_calendar.png. Now change the Name key so that it says HTC calendar (without the underscore.)
4) Delete the folder without the underscore, e.g. HTC calendar.lnk and soft reset.
Your icons should now be restored.

all it takes to add a today link is to type in the program's target file path...
i like how light this solution is compared to the other bundled apps that include today screen access to applications through multi-function plug-ins. running this with water's "smatskey" is a nice combo. i don't use nico's reg-hack-app since it bugs running on my rom. i don't mind modding the registry directly and do apply the speed tweaks and few minor function items.
one thing i need help with is this... i want to get to "running programs" via the today tray. can someone please tell me the command line to try and get a link to Start>Settings>System>Memory>Running Programs???
Create a shortcut with this content:
Code:
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4,2
That should launch the main control panel applet, with the Task Manager (4), and 2nd tab (2). Works here, but please do let me know if it doesn't wwork for you.
no luck first attempt. please provide complete command line format. thanks in advance!
that is the entire command line format ;>
I've attached the file, zipped up. If it doesn't work, try using...
Code:
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,1
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,2
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,3
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4
etc. and see which number pops up the task manager for you. Then just add that ",2" at the end to make it go to the correct tab.
loaded code and link to it via folder address. works a peach. thanks. i'm noob and was trying to write code as "target" command line in traylnch.
now... how can i change the .lnk file's icon?
you need to add the file you want to load an icon from, and the icon resource you want to use.
You could use the "Device Information" icon, for example (the task manager one itself isn't too clear):
Code:
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4,2?deviceinfo.exe,-103
If you want to look for other icons, try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=9172
Execute on your device, find a DLL or EXE, and click "Next Icon". Note that on my device it's not finding any icons in "ceshell.dll", even though there's a lot of icons in there, so your mileage may vary.
BIG THANK YOU

do you have "phm traylnch" on your device? if not, i can email it to you or upload it to xda's ftp tomorrow. just pm me with an email address if you want it sent. it is part of phm powertoys. if you google phm powertoys and load it, you might want to pull out the tray launch exe and only keep it on device. i got rid of the whole powertoy suite since i only care for the tray launch tool and regedit of course.

Hi ALL
Just want to say Thanks, that is so useful for me, Thank you
one more thought, is it possible to add a shortcut for the "Device Lock" then add it to the tary ? leave more space for Today, since I need to lock the screen while playing music in the pocket, Thanks a lot
only if somebody knows how to call the correct procedure in shutil.dll %)
otherwise, it might be worth looking into some of the other device locking utilities out there?
Doesn't work for me. I get error loading the shortcut or finding the target file.
I created a shortcut with the 24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4,2 code in it and placed it in the windows/startmene/programs folder. I then I installed TrayLaunch and added the shortcut to the list. What have I done wrong?
I tried the ZeBoxx's suggestion of using 24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,1 , etc but that doesn't pop anythting up either.
ZeBoxx, your posted taskman.lnk file didn't have the 24# in the target, yet you list it in the commands in your post. Should I have the 24# in the shortcut target too? Actually it doesn't work for me with or without. :?
unless somebody replaced the attached zip, the zip most definitely has a file called "TaskMan.lnk" in it, 25 bytes in size, with the following content:
Code:
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4,2
Please re-check the download, make sure your unzipping app isn't mucking things up, etc.
Yes, you should have "24#" or "32#" or whatever at the front.
And yes, it should work. Try the shortcut in plain ol' File Explorer or Total Commander CE or something first - just to rule out any problems you may have with getting it listed in PHM Traylaunch. If it doesn't work in File Explorer / whatever, then check if "ctlpnl.exe" and "cplmain.cpl" exist in your "\Windows\" folder. If they don't, then there's your problem
If they do, then...
Code:
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,1
should open the Password applet
Code:
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,2
should open the Owner Information applet
Code:
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,3
should open the Power applet
etc.

Where do I have to put this content? How to create shortcuts ??
in a shortcut (.lnk) file. One with that content is attached to one of my posts further up this thread
ZeBoxx,
Is there documentation anyplace on creating those shortcuts? I'm trying to create one for the Network Cards shortcut under Connections, so when I'm using 802.11 I can see all the available wireless networks.
But instead of just asking you to tell me what it is (which is greatly appreciated) I'd like to know how to do this myself.
Or is this just so painfully obvious and I'm thick? I've been digging around the windows folder on my device as well as searching the threads here and can't find much other than "here's the command for that shortcut" stuff.
thanks!
-Mc
could U tell me how to edit that shortcut and attach new content?
I found this simple attached Wifi toggle application in XDA that is suppose to work on smartphones (WM6 standard).
I installed on my trinity and it worked, the only problem is that it does not have a icon!!
Can anyone help in making an icon for it? Also perhaps make the installaiton package to also make a shortcut to the startmenu?
Thanks in advance.
there is no need for a new cab file.
type
62#"Program Files\smartmadsoft\WirelessToggle\WirelessToggle.exe"?<path and filename to any dll>
into a shortcut file and save it to \windows\start menu\programs. it will autmatically appear in the start menu's programm folder.
Thanks for your help. But I do know how to make the shortcut to the start menu. The problem is that there will not be an icon for it. It will only show a generic white page for as an icon (the same icon fo invalid shortcuts even though the shortcut is correct). The problem is that (I think) the application itself does not have an icon because even the exe file doesn't show an icon.
answers to your two questions are already in my post:
how to make shortcut to program files to appear in the start menu's program submenu:
create a text file
type: 62#"Program Files\smartmadsoft\WirelessToggle\WirelessToggle.exe"
save it as wirelesstoggle.lnk
copy it to \windows\start menu\programs
how to add an icon:
add ?<filename>.dll,startnumber
to the shotcut file in one single line. if you do not have a icon dll file just use one of the existing like shellres.dll in the windows folder.
it should look like this:
62#"Program Files\smartmadsoft\WirelessToggle\WirelessToggle.exe"?shellres.dll,-13910
that will give you the beam-icon.
here are some more icons:
Bluetooth: shellres.dll,-13909

If your asking how to make a custom Icon, there are many free icon applications out there. ones i have used over the years:
mspaint - create any .bmp file you want then just rename to .ico
bmp2icon - takes a .bmp file you have and converts it to .ico, supports transparency.
IconChanger - can take an .exe and change the icon embedded to one of your choice. (this one might be what you need to just add an icon to the .exe you have)
GConvert - can convert pictures into .ico, can pull icons from .exe, can create icon .dll files (which can have multiple icons inside), has a batch function to convert many files at once.
Gimp - freeware type of photoshop, is kind of complicated, not for beginners.

what is the 62# used for in your lnk file?
you have to provide in advance the total amount of letters for the link to the exe file (including the quotation marks). i do not know the reason for this, i just know the facts...

you're welcome.
if you want to use this - i had some strange behaviours when changing the icon after you have completed the whole shortcut file:
the old icon still remains visible. you have to rename the whole shortcut file to enforce display of the new icon.
i can't remember if a soft reset might also help.
Thanks alot egoist6, worked like a charm.
Hello everybody,
You can also paste behind your shortcut "?outres.dll,-10001"
(I hope this works for everybode, I am on a FRENCH WM6)
Value 10001 : contacts
Value 10006 : flag
etc

Not sure wat happen. I tried on my diamond using TF3D Config with no problem.
Here's another way you can change the theme:
1. Use winzip to open the theme file.
2. Extract all manila files in it to your diamond 'Window' directory.
3. When prompt to overwrite, click 'yes'.
4. Once copy completed, soft reset your diamond.
5. Done.

I've used SKManager to change the images to most of my shortcuts but it seems some of them still remain the same. For instance, Palringo and Google Maps have kept their default icon even though I changed both the Icon and Start Menu Image in SKManager. It should be noted that in the Windows start menu both icons have change and also in the Quick Links other icons have taken their change with a restart of Sense UI.
This leads me to believe that HTC is caching these icons somewhere for quicker loading and I'll have to delete this cache if I want the changes to take effect. Can anyone verify this and do they know where it's caching the quick link icons?
Ugg, sorry I posted this. I usually use the "Search This Site" feature on my google toolbar which was down and didn't bother to use the internal search feature of the forum. A quick search yielded a solution from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4794155&postcount=5
The cache is located in:
\Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher
Moderators can delete or close this thread as they wish.

Remove all QTC
Hi all
To solve this problem install the cab attached.
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
omg I saw this cab and ignored it hahah thanks!! it worked
I recently went through the same thing.
You have to delete the ".bmg" file for the program in the "Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher\" folder.
help me I´m desperate.
I searched the web and this forum and found no clue on how to change the quicklink icon of quickgps.lnk. I managed to changed all icons except that.
The icon shows up in the normal windows startmenue AND in the quicklinks selection menue correct. But as soon as I choosed it from the selection dialogue it shows up the normal icon in the quicklinks!
what I´ve done so far;
- changed the icon with JMWD and CSMI
- cleared the cache with JWMD and AxLor fix remove all qtc.cab
- changed the reg edit for HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\QuickGPS.lnk
- restarted a lot of times
- removed and added the link to the quicklinks
- changed the original icon of the .lnk in the \windows folder
- no cache .bmp in Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher\ for QuickGPS to delete
- created new .lnk from QuickGPS.exe
are there any other possible methods to make this work?

hello,
i have updated the rom and now i lost the T9 dictionary of romanian language. Can anyone post the dictionary or explain how can i add it back and remove others?
thank you
I can't help you in that but can tell you that you are lucky man. That **** t9 is most stupid thing i ever saw...
I got a french HD Mini, so I'm going to translate from mine, which can a little differ from yours:
- Go to the "settings" tab
- Choose from there "Regional Settings and Text"
- Than choose "text input"
and re-add any language you want.
You can add/change/delete T9 words by running "eT9MyWords.exe", which is located in "Windows" folder.
You can also make a shortcut (copy-paste shortcut) in:
Windows\Start menu\Programs for easiest using.
Tnx!

Much appreciated, solved a very strange problem for me.
In specific being the fact that I could not delete words from my user dictionary and was getting frustrated searching through REG for it.
TNX!!!

3. Search Phone
Check better. It has a blue icon in front of it, which writes "XT9".

Possibly spelled differently or under a different file name in my phone? Can you pls post an image of the icon? Maybe i can try looking for that icon instead. Search for "XT9" did not turn up any result.

Thanks for the image. It's not found on my phone. I did a visual big-icons search. File by file. There's no such icon. I've search a few other folders too. Can't find it.
My unit is HD mini. From what unit did you took that screen shot?
It's under "Windows" folder in internal memory, which contains a lot of files. Don't bother with folders inside "Windows" folder.
The file is common for all devices.

Yes. I've searched the files under Windows folder. Not the subfolders. There's no such file in my HD mini. What HTC phone unit do you use?
Diamond 2 (Topaz).
I wonder, how did other guys find it!
I'm not familiar with english menu. There are some settings for XT9 under Settings-More-Input (maybe under Personal). Maybe some changings and writing some words, using T9, makes the system create it.
@bart3385
If you are using Resco Explorer, make sure you have unchecked "Hide System files ect." in the settings of Resco Explorer. It is under Menu -> Options -> General -> Browser. eT9MyWords.exe is a system file and i think that's the reason that you can't find it. Hope i helped

You have right about Resco explorer, but as bart3385 said, he had used stock file manager, where the file can't be hidden.
Thanks for all your efforts to help me. I really appreciate it.
The file is called "EditUDB.exe" in HD mini. I finally found it.
Does it have the same icon in front (blue XT9)?
