Modify Cabs

Hi,
I have a cab file of Wm5torage which is asking about restart or not after installation, the problem is that i put this file in my extended rom, to make it installed after a hard reset.
The probleme is the question of restart or no, it hangs the installation.And I have to reboot it myself.
So i would like to know how to avoid this question by modifying the Cab.

You can use MSCEInf (http://preview.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1519) to see what is inside a cab. Then you can repackage it yourself.

Actually, it's not that simple in this case.
I was hoping the author of the program might see this post and answer you, but let me give it a shot for now.
The reset is done by the cabs setup.dll (it may have a different name inside the cab). Using MSCEInf markvan mentioned or CE Cab Manager (there is a demo version that will run 15 times) you can remove this dll from the cab. Trouble is it may contain other functionality (like reg settings) needed during the installation so the app won't install properly without it.

Yes, i have omitted in the last version published of MSCEInf to extract the setup DLL, but the name of the setup DLL in the cab is always ".999". So, for now you can extract it by Winzip or Cabextract.
If there is no file with this extension, there is not setup DLL.
But in the tab : Generalities, you find the name of the setup DLL if it exists.
Future version of MSCEInf (vesion 1.4) will extract the setup DLL. This new version will also do these things :
- Drag and Drop from the Tab Files to the Explorer.
- Context Menu on Files in the Tab to open it with associated application or with Notepad.
- Use Names Folder for extracting.
- read also _setup.xml and do the same as for traditional INF and shows all things in the cab. It also rebuilds the traditional Inf from the XML.

Dll resources have nothing to do with its activities.
The only way to replace it is to know exactly what it does either by asking the author or by viewing the source code (if available).
My advice is this: try installing without the dll. If the app works, then you can dump the dll all together, if not try contacting the program author for help.

Post the cab - i will have a go at modifying it for you - i think its the setup.xml that needs changing.
EDIT managed what you asked (omitted setup.dll and modified setup.xml)- can get rid of the destination dialog as well if you like assuming like me you always install to \program files\wm5torage. Just need to know what version you use.

Hi - i use 1.7 - if you want 1.71 you add it as an attachment to your post. It works as you want - do you want no destination dialog as well? I am at work at the moment - will post the modified cab tonight

Modified cab attached - its most up to date version 1.72.
mods are:
1. No setup.dll so no request to restart device (not required anyhow)
2. Installs shortcut to start menu\program files rather than start menu\accessories
3. Installs straight to \program files\wm5torage rather than having a destination dialog.

I am updating this thread to show the procedures I used to install the app:

unzip this file v2_real.zip and copy them to: /Prgram Files/Szabi/CubeLauncher/
This file will remove the "demo" on the main page and "contact" page.

unzip this file Cube_real_edited.zip and copy them to: /Prgram Files/Szabi/CubeLauncher/
This file solved the slow refresh problem.

Try to save and exit after enter each cube screen ( there's a bug in the config tool).

Looks promising, but with that background cannot use it at work.
Need to be more configurable.... (similar to flash file from whoneedsaniphone.com)

They are already made into PNG files, all you would need to do is rename them into the name already being used by your Startup Image.
Then copy it and place it into your \Windows Directory in your phone.
Now every time you restart your phone you will have a new custom Startup Image.

Soft Reset your phone and then install the Cab I provided. Then soft reset once again.

*You must have the PsShutXP program in order to use this*
All you would need to do is copy the files from the ZIP into the PsShutXP folder. This will override the original images, so make a back up if you want to use the previous images again.

All you would need to do is extract the images from the ZIP and copy them to your respective HTC Home Icon Folder in your phone.

If it's built in then you should be fine by just installing the CAB.
You only get a problem by trying to override a custom Comm Manager with another Cabed one.

More noob questions because i had problems with diamond dialers/skins:
1. is this just replacing my "old" graphics or is this a complete application ?
2. and will the language change to english ?

At this moment I don't recommend using the Diamond Dialers if you have Video Calling. None of those dialers support Video Calling.
But I will work on that later. The finished product will be a skin that will just replace the images on your phone.

No they wont.

not true.
Total Commander will overwrite the original manila files without prompted. if you already have modded icons then it will ask to overwrite (hence what i said above)
so in other words, the original file WILL get replaced.
HOWEVER, you should not worry.if you delete those manila files from the windows directory, the ROM will automatically restore the original file.

i only got 2 of the 8 icons in landscape mode, not sure why? Oso pls advise how I can get the calendar tab.

try disabling tf3d first and copy the files again.
enable tf3d again...
if that doesnt work, try a soft reset.

It work now as I hv installed the vodafone red theme previously. and now I resintalled bk to default. Thanks again. I can installed the call history and calendar but it doesn't appear your icons. Please advise

i am assuming that you installed the call history and calender after you installed my icons
That would lead to my files for CH and calender being replaced by the standard icons
So in other words:
if you have Call history & Calender ALREADY installed:
Just copy paste my files
or
if you want call history and my icons, install call history first and install my icons afterwards

HOW TO DO:
Ok here we go again:
1. Download the .rar oder .zip file and UNPACK them
2. Move this files to a folder on ur phone!
3. Now u need the Tool " total commander" to copy the files from the folder on ur phone to the /windows folder on ur phone! (when u just copy the files without the tool is doesnt work!)
----> Important: U must copy the FILES from the htc-blue_panther folder into the /windows folder NOT the hole folder! AND IGNORE the backup folder! Ive just forgotten to delete this
4. Softreset ur handy! (restart) and ENJOY!!

There is no need to flash your phone with a new ROM!!! It is recommended, but, not required... All you have to do is download and install the .cab files from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493531:D

just enzip the files and move them on ur phone! Now u need the tool "total commander" to copy the files into the /windows on ur phone -> Done!

I'd like to know how to use this theme as well , do I just copy both files and the
panther folder to the windows directory ?
If this is how you change themes ,when do I have use the Diamond TF3D config
tool ??
Sorry about these basic questions but I have never changed a theme before

Ok here we go again:
1. Download the .rar oder .zip file and UNPACK them
2. Move this files to a folder on ur phone!
3. Now u need the Tool " total commander" to copy the files from the folder on ur phone to the /windows folder on ur phone! (when u just copy the files without the tool is doesnt work!)
----> Important: U must copy the FILES from the htc-blue_panther folder into the /windows folder NOT the hole folder!
4. Softreset ur handy! (restart) and ENJOY!!
this is NOT! a .theme file for the tf3d config program!

Ok I already did that but there was a backup folder inside the panther folder and
I wasnt sure what to do with that , but ended up just leaving it out,
Theme installed ok but I cannot get the wallpaper to show ,
I put it in my docs, then ticked use this picture as background and browsed
to it but it doesnt show
