Kev, i have read the other posts on the subject, I have an unlocked XDA, using the special edition xda developers rom, i am using the settings you supplied, but still the "g" sign appears for a few secs then disappears. and when connecting to GPRS, i get a failure message, "unable to connect for an unknown reason..."

The 'g' is only supposed to appear for a short time. It show you logged in, but something else in the settings is till wrong. Could be a proxy you need, nameserver settings, ...
From a usability standpoint, the operators did everything wrong they could have possibly done wrong with GPRS.
Country code 1 ???
HI Kev,
I have come to realised that my xda came with area code 425 and country code 1 as default and noticed that you do the same for your connection to uk vodaphone. Just a point of interest though: when I tried using phonext which is a dialler and ringtone assignment software, the number called will be with +1 country code; ie to the USA instead of dialling to a UK number.
I still can't figure out why country code is 1 when you use it for GPRS in the UK. Any ideas anyone ??
Cheers

HELP WITH DIALING OPTIONS!!!

I have a friend in Brazil who just bought a Magician and he's having some problems with it. Basically, all his contacts in Outlook have the following format: +55 11 3333-3333 (country code, city code, number). When he tries to call anybody from his contact list the network doesn't complete the call because the phone is dialing the country code and the city code and the network (TIM Brasil) apparently only accepts local calls if you dial only the number, without city code or country code. He told me he tried changing the dialing rules and changing the regional settings but nothing seemed to work.
Anybody have a clue about a solution?
Thanks
M.
Same problem
I'm having the same problem. I live in Brazil and use TIM.
Plus we need to choose long distance carriers for every call.
DId you find any sollutions?
Tks a lot!

GSM Cell and Operator Info
To get the Operator Information on Your Today Screen ( Like Airtel, Hutch etc..) along with Call Related Info:-
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?download=1319
To Get the GSM Location Info ( New Broadcast Msgs Sent to your cell everytime you enter a Circle) :-
Start-settings-phone-more-Enable Broadcast channels-Settings-Receive channel list-new item to receive:
Name: whatever you want
Channel number 050
Hope this helps.
cell profiler v2 can do the job ( and much, much more )
this is what it displays on the todayscreen:
CP o2 - de: times square
cell: 21184 lac: 4221 last: office
it will be released this month, so stay tuned. our beta testers are currently doing the QA for CP V2. if you are looking for news and updates on this you can check www.cell-profiler.de from time to time, because as soon as our website is up, the product will be available..
cp v2 is a total rewrite of cp v1, with a new user interface, lots of new profile possibilities ( like automatically disabling bluetooth once you arrive at home - but thats only one of the many options ), easier handling of the profiles/cells, possibility to load a bitmap file as map to pin down the cell areas, a today plugin, the quick profiles and lots lots more.
edit: oh yeah, cell broadcast messages are only available in a few gsm networks plus normally they dont display the actuall cell id, but the area code of the current city.
try SIM Status Switcher from www.wivit.com
I am beta testing it and its superb.
It not only shows operator and roaming indicator, but also the active phone number (which will allways identify the active SIM when using dual sim adapter like I do)
Besides that, it allows you to switch SIMs (when you have a dual sim adapter)
me too i'm a beta tester of sim status switcher, it's a great apps!
I registered on their website, but there is no place to download it.
Do you know where I can get the SIM Switcher ?
Thanks
Yeah, I'm also looking to download... signed up buy can't find a link.

SuperSIM Problem :(

hi
i have imate jasjar, and i want to use SuperSIM simcard. but it tell me 'No service' or 'Insert SimCard' :-(
its right when i use other simcards.
how can i fix this problem? please help me.
P.S. : sorry for my bad english
Nobody know !!??
There are different types of SuperSIM's are available in the market. Which type you own?
For instance, in one type, you need to attach two SIM's in the SuperSIM holder. But another type is completely different, you need to copy* your SIM (provided by the operator) and then upload the data to the SuperSIM. The STK (available in PPC) should be used to switch the numbers stored in the SuperSIM.
*V1 SIM can only be copied, but V2 cannot and copying V2 SIM may damage the SIM as well.
i have 16 in 1 super sim, i did copy my sim in it. stk dont help me
yesterday, i test it on HTC tytn, and didnt work again. but i did test on meny phones (like imate pocketpc, and samsung i300, and eten g500, and nokia 7610, and nokia 5500) and works.
what is the problem?
P.S. : description of my problem = when i start the device, it found network, but when i want to use it (dialing a number, trying to send SMS, open STK program,...) the network is gone, and after a while , notify me 'Insert SIM Card'.

Obtaining your PUK code through Cingular's OLAM

I havent seen this posted on this site yet, so I thought I would add it. Cingular know gives you your PUK code through their OLAM. You no longer have to use "other" software to unlock it or wait 10 days for them to give you the PUK code.
unlocking
which tab is that under?...i cant seem to find it
OLAM = Online Account Manager.
It's in the Phone/Device section.
Thank you for the information. So we need not get the PUK code from the Network provider huh?
