I was wondering if it is possible to have in the "today" first page of my qtek s100 a line with the operator I am register in that moment (orange, ...) and the cell info.
If not by default which program is out there?
Thanks
GSM Cell and Operator Info
To get the Operator Information on Your Today Screen ( Like Airtel, Hutch etc..) along with Call Related Info:-
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?download=1319
To Get the GSM Location Info ( New Broadcast Msgs Sent to your cell everytime you enter a Circle) :-
Start-settings-phone-more-Enable Broadcast channels-Settings-Receive channel list-new item to receive:
Name: whatever you want
Channel number 050
Hope this helps.
cell profiler v2 can do the job ( and much,much more )
this is what it displays on the todayscreen:
CP o2 - de: times square
cell: 21184 lac: 4221 last: office
it will be released this month, so stay tuned. our beta testers are currently doing the QA for CP V2. if you are looking for news and updates on this you can check www.cell-profiler.de from time to time, because as soon as our website is up, the product will be available..
cp v2 is a total rewrite of cp v1, with a new user interface, lots of new profile possibilities ( like automatically disabling bluetooth once you arrive at home - but thats only one of the many options ), easier handling of the profiles/cells, possibility to load a bitmap file as map to pin down the cell areas, a today plugin, the quick profiles and lots lots more.
edit: oh yeah, cell broadcast messages are only available in a few gsm networks plus normally they dont display the actuall cell id, but the area code of the current city.
try SIM Status Switcher from www.wivit.com
I am beta testing it and its superb.
It not only shows operator and roaming indicator, but also the active phone number (which will allways identify the active SIM when using dual sim adapter like I do)
Besides that, it allows you to switch SIMs (when you have a dual sim adapter)
me too i'm a beta tester of sim status switcher, it's a great apps!
I registered on their website, but there is no place to download it.
Do you know where I can get the SIM Switcher ?
Thanks
Yeah, I'm also looking to download... signed up buy can't find a link.

I just applied this registry hack
Show Network Operator Name in today screen
Restoring Today Item: WiFi, BT and Phone Connection Status
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items]
Create "Wireless" use Key
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Options"=dword:00000000
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004
to my imate jasjam and it works a treat. I wondering is there another hack or option to show the Cell Name/ID that the phone is currently connected to. Much like the option "Cell Info Display" on the Nokia phones.
Cheers

phoneAlarm does it.
On the Hermes, you can use the FieldTest.exe app available on the Wiki to view realtime raw statistics about the cells you're connected to and the various aspects of your connection, but as far as I know there's no tool to show the cell ID and the stuff the Nokia would show.
That didn't always work for me though on the Nokias I had... Depended on which phone I did it on, very odd.
Hello and happy new year to everybody,
a newbie question: I did the indicated trick and I display not only my carrier name, but also Wifi and BT status, plus my owner info.
I would like to display the carrier name only. Is that possible?
Thanks,
Richard

I think many people on XDA have been searching for a solution... and I think its been out there for quite a while!
You need to download this today screen plugin - it is able to show Cell Broadcast messages on the today screen, besides other nifty stuff. Best of all, its FREE!
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_def_iM_cs.htm
Next, you also need to subscribe to the Cell Broadcast feature. It is located in your phone settings, under the "More" Tab. Enable Cell Broadcast, and add Channel 50 to the list of subscribed channels.
Channel 50 is the one that shows you the cell/area name (only on networks that support it) - the same ones you see on non-smartphone Nokia or Ericsson handsets.
I'm going to try it out myself now...
EDIT: It works! Brilliant!
Yes atlast something to cheer about
I was looking for this for long time, Have installed the extended version, I think its still not perfect when it comes to display area info. its better then commMgr by the way.
Cell info in 3G
Can anyone explain why I rarely see the cell info when the phone has 3G connectivity. If I turn off 3G, I get the cell info messages!
On my wife's Nokia, the cell info comes up in 3G or 2G coverage!

I can't find the "More" Tab on my WM6 LG-KS20.
Has anyone found a way to get the carrier name in the today screen?
There is a registry hack somewhere which shows the state of the radio and the carrier name, do a search.
I found how to do it...anyone interested here are the instructions...
Customize operator's name
To show specified operator name set
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=0 (DWORD decimal)
And then at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names
add the code and the name to display. The value is 5 digits "CCCOO", where CCC is 3-digits country code, and OO is 2-digits operator's code. For example:
"25099"="BEE LINE"
For country and network code, go to wikipidea for mobile country code and network code
To show operator name based on the SIM card used (eg for cases where dual SIM adapter are used), set
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=1 (DWORD decimal)
For my dual-SIM adaptor, when I switch between SIMs, the phone with default settings showed always one and the same name, until I reboot the device. Then, it was not able to retrieve operator's name from one of the SIM cards I use. Probably it is an adaptor fault. But anyway, after I changed ONSDisplayRule to 0 and set more up-to-date names for operators that I use, I now always see the name of the operator of the chosen SIM.
Change the "Message Sent" and other general notification bleep
This will change the sound of other pop-up messages as well as SMS sent bleep. The default sound is the `msgbox.wav` in the \Windows directory. To change it, go to
HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\Default
And change to the names of other wav files in your \Windows directory without the `.wav` extension.
AKU2 ROMs tweaks
These are tweaks that have been confirmed to work on AKU2 ROMs, and confirmed not to work on earlier ROMs
Show Wireless Today item
By just adding following keys to the registry will get you a nice 'wireless' today item that show Network name/status, WiFi name/status as well as Bluetooth status. Confirmed to work on AKU2 ROMs
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Wireless"]
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004
Temporary?
Hi,
Thanks for the tip. I did the change and it worked. I could see the carrier name on my today screen. But after I soft-reset PPC, I see the carrier number 'xxxxx' instead of the name.
Am I missing something?
Please help.
~Squid
Edit- This is strange, but the tweak seems to be working for now, even after a couple of soft-resets. Will test further and keep posted. Thanks
easy way a program call OpMon by mortscript
Batterystatus can also display carrier name
While On Roaming
Will the text change when i am on Roaming...
Or is there any plugin to show the current location(area info) that is broadcasted by the mobile towers
In sony ericson cell phones, there is option in messages settings that you can set it to get Area Info. After that you will see some information about your cell location in first screen.
is there any program/tool for getting area info on wm5?
Such app ewisted also on Nokia
Yes, that would be good to have such app on HTC. I remember to have used an app on my Nokia (7650) that allowed to automatically change my phone profile depending on the area it received from the operator antenna.
Any info on that ?

yes you can...
- go to settings > cell broadcast
- check the 'Enable' and 'Receive Channel List'
- tap 'Add' or 'New'
- give any name (e.g: location), and enter the channel number '050'
- DONE. you will receive a message from network everytime the phone enters new area.
credits to someone in this forum (i forgot) who gives this tips.
Thanks.
Or you could install Google maps. (Visit www.google.co.uk/gmm on your mobile web browser)
It has a location function based on cell sites (no more accurate the more cells near you.. It gives you an area on the map displaying where you are (in case you've got no windows). You can then search for businesses in your area.

Another vote for Google Maps. I'm running in my 8125 and it will give you a good idea of where you're at area-wise. Plus, it's simply an excellent mapping and navigation system.
However, the way it works depends on someone with an active GPS transponder being in the same general area as you. Now, this works most of the time perfectly well, and will give you a pretty good pinpoint of where you're at (within .5km or so, is what I've found). That said, sometimes late at night when not many people are out and about, or when I go over to my girlfriend's house, who lives in a sparsly-inhabited part of town, it won't always come up with a fix.
Still, by far my favorite application on my phone.

cell channels only available in selected models
you can add a third party application but it will be dependent on your radio rom!
google maps support this but you will have to pay for it because its over GPRS or EDGE.

Hello,
Is it possible to get all the cellid of a place for the all the network available.
Example when I try to do a network search from my mobile, it shows me all the Service provider available.
Question: Will it be possible to get all the cellid of provides at any point ?
I am looking at changing profile etc based on cell id (not of my provider but other when my cellid is not available ).
Also Note: Phone is not in roaming so I cannot register to any other provider.
Any ideas !!
Thanks
Have a look at http://www.opencellid.org/
Thanks for your reply.
Are you suggesting that I make a note of current cellid and try to get other cell id.
Is there a way we can get the same from programs RIL or something on windows mobile ?
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and must say I never thought there was so much suport out there for these phones. So I would like to put my problem forward for you see if you can help me.
I have bought my GT-I5800 of a freind who has just come back from north africa, he needed the money. Anyway it was originally on T mobil but he had it unlocked over here. I am on o2 and so when I put my sim card in everything worked except for the access to the internet and the GPS.
I have a P.A.Y.G. account but do have access to the web on my old phone with a cretain amount free every month of topping up.
When I phoned o2 using my new (secondhand) phone to get the setting sent by text the chap said it was not an GT-I5800 but a maxtel. The thing is that when it starts up it shows the GT logo and the screen is the same as what i've seen on the photos, the three button style. I have found inside the phone these details:-
Model no. GT-I5800
firmware 2.2
Baseband I5800XXJH1
Kernelversion 2.3.32.9 [email protected]@#1
Build no. FROYO.XXJPB
I wanted to get the web side working and GPS although it does connect to my home router wirelessly ok and phone calls +text work ok. Any help would be most welcome.
Cheers everyone. raccoon
You need to manually set your APN (Access Point Name).
1. Google 'X APN Settings android' where X is the name of your mobile network provider (eg. t-mobile) and keep that page open.
2. Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile network -> Acces point names. Press the menu key and choose new APN
3. Add settings (name, APN,...) according to your provider
4. You should now have internet connection.
GPS is something beyond my knowledge
Cheers Thom I will try that and post back asap.

Do you have the correct settings? What o2 sim do you have? Simplicity, normal payandgo, or a basic old 2g sim card? (and yh the settings change accordingly)
