Droid Modification Question - Android Software Development

Will it ever be this simple?
http://www.quickpwn.com/2009/08/jailbreak-iphone-301.html

Umm.. you download a patch, stick it on your SDCard and apply it in the repair dialog on your phone.. How much simpler can it get?

[Q] Replace android on Xperia X10?

Is there a way to COMPLETELY replace the android and UI and Timescape and Mediascape that come with Xperia X10?
How?
What would you install?
Would like like to change the OS or just version of your Android? Do you want to remove the components or the whole OS?

I don't like SE UI. Guess it consumes a lot of hardware resources.
I would like my Xperia X10 to run the system the HTC Desire runs, for instance.
I would like to change the whole thing.
Is it possible? How?
What OS would you install then?
Answer to all them questions
No it's not possible. You can change to a diffrent home menu. Try adw launcher. But thats about it
What your asking for is possible.. but not until the bootloader has been cracked and someone has created custom ROM based on HTC Sense, but with all of the drivers etc for the X10 hardware..
But I have to ask.. why didn't you buy a HTC if you prefer their UI?
Oh.. and I don't think that your theory.. "Guess it consumes a lot of hardware resources." is valid.. but just to be sure - which resources are you talking about?? Battery? Memory? Processor bandwidth?
u guys dont know how to answer that question cuz they didnt understand that but i do but i dont know how to do that.i also want to know that.but i know one thing u can update the original software by going to SE repair center.but u have to pay for it.in my country i have to pay $50

Why would you buy the X10 to begin with...? There's dozens of phones that come with stock Android.
To answer your (weird) question: No. Not until the bootloader is cracked and the devs make a new ROM.
I'm utterly confused by you.

In his defense: Timescape looks pretty good and it even works well enough for demo purposes. It's when you really start using the phone it becomes useless so it's an easy mistake to make.
But yeah, I'm confused too.

Oh, well.. Let's wait foi it then.
In Brazil, HTC are rare and I couldn't find any shops or carriers that sell them. On the contrary, Sony Ericsson is popular and has lots shops and technical assistance in case I need.

Especially battery and memory. But could I be wrong?
On the aesthetics side, I don't like the low customisation level that SE UI offers...

Listen... I'm not talking about updating. I'm talking about replacing completely. So that my SE Xperia X10 would look and behave just like an HTC.
You can find anything on Ebay, remember that...

I know it. But when it comes to a fairly expensive piece of equipment I would like to buy one from a brand which offers technical assistance in my country.
It will, but we still have to wait till they crack the boatloader and make SE hardware compatible with the 2.2 Froyo.
2.1 is coming this month sooo

You do realize that by replacing the OS on your phone, you lose that technical support, right?
Also, the amount of customization on the X10 is equal to any HTC phone. The beauty of Android means you can change things to look like you want them too. Just look at any theme thread. People have changed the notification bar, the font, the menu colors, and system icons. Has nothing to do with what phone they are using.

New To android, looking for the right path.

So I'm new to android, not new to modding. So if someone can find the patience to set me straight on a few things. Ahem: I would like to keep a simple stock" ish " rom. I would like everything to just work. I would really like it if there was no ads on anything. Overclocked would be nice, but not if it hits the battery bigtime. So, in summary, is there a rom out there that will accomplish this for me failry easy? HTC sense is pretty cool. so that would be a plus. so Rom suggestions, mod suggestions. Very much appreciated. Time with family an gf doesn't leave me much time to my computer an phone tomfoolery.
Firstly Welcome! You have a few choices, there is nfinities stk roms with sense ,LiquidSolstice has stk roms available his are optimized and have alot of the bloat aka sprint crap removed. Look in the hero dev section you will find them,if you can wait i'll shoot you the links .

It's rooted already? if yes then power+home hold home down ater you push power button
Heres a few tips:
1.Read as much as you can, don't understand ask someone will help you.
2.Most important ask your quest. in the proper thread.
3.ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID(a copy of the existing rom, settings and apps on your phone at that moment.)
4.When you read a discussion about flashing a new radio, Remember this: NEVER FLASH A RADIO THAT IS FOR A GSM HERO OR OTHER PHONE ONLY A CDMA HERO!
You will end up with a very expensive paper wieght.
5.Try to do as much searching as possible before you post a question(this should keep you from getting flamed! lol!)
Like I said previously the latest sense roms are Nfinite's Stk .7 based on the sprint 2.31.651.7 update you'll find that here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790889
Nfinite's Stk .2 Rom:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849024
Try these 2 the stk .2 is nice thats what I run overclocked.
But try either of them and see how they work for you, need anything just shout !
BTW heres a wiki link with alot of info for you to learn from:http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Hero_CDMA.png

I's just a stock sprint hero, updated to latest sense version. I read I need to roll back to sprint build no. 2.27? I'm currently on build no. 2.32.651.2 The rooting process seems like a long one using command line? The gf's moment was easy cheesy to root. no drop in an flash files for rooting the hero eh ? I"ll take a look at those roms an download. along with htc sync an.....the android sdk I beleive is what I saw.

[Q] Should i root?

i've had the atrix for a few weeks now, and been thinking about rooting for a while cause i pretty much root every android phone i get, but i'm tryna see if it's worth it right now or should i wait until the bootloader gets unlocked. I mean i'm VERY satisfied with the phone, just wanted to know if i should wait or not.

If you've rooted before you know the benefits. At any rate, use aRoot from designgears. He has an uninstall script if you ever need to use one to go back. I would root anyway. Plus the few custom "ROM"s we have are excellent to say the least.

What are you looking to do? It really depends on that. If you like the stock look use adeo v.02 by DG. If you want a gingerbread-ish theme with all the goodies there, use GingerBlur. I also hear he's working on a HoneyBlur that will have the Honeycomb theme.

i'm really looking for a rom that has a lot of customization features added, something like cm7, i kno that these roms are probably in beta so i'm not gonna be picky, i appreciate everything that the devs are doing towards making this device the best in the market(which it already is lol), i can't wait til they crack the bootloader!

*How to Make the MIUI Rom look even Sexier*

Are you new to the modding community?
Do you have no Idea what your doing?
Did you recently purchase a kindle fire and put that fresh MIUI Rom on your kindle because you got tired of stock, and have no idea why it looks funny?
If you have any of these questions im here to help.
If you recently flashed the MIUI Rom for the kindle fire and have no idea why there are huge icons and small icons i thought i take the time to show you a simple fix.
First if you already didn't do this download the rom this can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424434
It is always best to Backup then wipe system, Data, and Both Caches for a perfect flash.
Once you finish this you will then boot your device to find this
http://www.pixhost.org/show/3040/10811486_img_20120101_113457.jpg
First You apply this theme:
Download:http://www.mediafire.com/?j3a8r7i9x9de48j
Set this in Miui
Second Download and set this keyboard: Smart Keyboard Pro
Download: http://www.google.com/m/url?ei=jn4NT-C1N--42QXJ2AE&gl=us&hl=en&q=...
Iphone keyboard theme for Smart Keyboard Theme
Place the zip in your SD card, (or internal memory in case you dont have) in folder called skins (make one if you dont have it already), DO NOT extract the zip. Open Smart Keyboard and select cupertino skin from the skins menu, set all caps, un select show alt. Here is what it should look like when you select it properly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3HJDzT00FQ
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?oinc7npnddu93xd
Third: Set LCD Density Changer set to 240 density this will restart yourv device, after restart click okay and save changes.
Download: http://www.google.com/m/url?ei=1nsNT-DiKMG82wWHRQ&gl=us&hl=en&q=h...

Espire Launcher (from the apply this theme last) Android Market
link: http://www.google.com/m/url?ei=PYMNT4iJCqL42gXPwwE&gl=us&hl=en&q=...
(this is a great launcher i used it at first but i really couldn't change the thing i wanted so its completely optional.
************************************************************
Last are the Iphone sounds
Here is a compilation of iphone sounds. They are not made by me so all the credits go to the authors (Apple,...), i just put the files in a .zip archive You can download this sounds at this link: http://www.mediafire.com/?kwujhpbu37a9dlh
How to install: Use ES File Explorer root explorer or adb to push this files because their is a root access to system files. -iphone UI sounds: put the files (.ogg) in this folder \system\media\audio\ui -iphone rings/alarm: put the files (.mp3) in this folder: \system\media\audio\ringtones ,and/or \system\media\audio\alarms -the iphone default sms received ring: put the "apple_smsreceived.mp3" in this folder: \system\media\audio\notifications
And Bam your MIUI rom is complete hope you enjoyed
Here is a video of such!
Thanks everyone
Another thing if you don't want the iPhone sounds but want the keyboard sounds go into smart keyboard pro and go into smart keyboard pro settings and click on sound and vibrate Turn On Sound on key press Select Sound style to iPhone and make sure vibrate is on

I think all the apple haters need to lay off already and come to the reality that, as hard to believe as it may sound, apple did a good job on making its software look spectacular. I personally think Android is better for a number of reasons that I wont mention here, but I still think the look and feel of iOS still looks better than android up until Ice Cream Sandwich. Its all a matter of preference.
If you don't like apple move on! Don't crap this guys helpful thread with ur opinions on a different device! Dang whats wrong with xda these days...

you can still follow that method i posted to achieve s-off. Also it depends if the apps are running or not. If you manage whats running you shouldnt notice any slow downs. Im partitioned with 1gb so i have 1gb where ALL of my apps go so i never run out of space so i recommend partitioning if you have alot of apps. But you need to have at least a class 4 sdcard or youll see slow downs

im on MIUI also. Yes partitioning will work with MIUI but your going to have to flash Dark Tremors a2sd and activate it through terminal emulator. Dont download the one from MIUI.us use this version by swiper.
