Hello all!
I am now a proud owner of a "new" HTC Touch. (pre-owned and in perfect condition)
My unit is a t8282 which does not support my carriers 3g band (850Mhz), however I know the t8285 does support 850Mhz. I was wondering if it is possible to make the t8282 into a 'fake' t8285, by flashing a rom or a radio or something of that sort, to make it support 850MHz like the t8285 does.
I am just not sure how different they are inside, and if this is possible. Are they different in the hardware? Is it just a software thing so it can be sold specifically for different geographical locations?
Maybe someone can help me.
Thanks a lot!

It is impossible through software to make the the T8282 3G capable as this is a hardware restriction. Nice try....
See? That's exactly what I needed to know. So it's a hardware restriction... oh well! t8282 is still a great phone!
Thanks a lot!

You are welcome. There is always WiFi, when possible. It's faster then 3G and consumes less battery wise...

I remember from a while back that there was 2 versions of the wizard. One was the one that we are seeing now as the qtek9100 and the kjam and there was one that looked like the apache(cdma version) but it did not have the aerial stub so it could not of been the apache. Does anyone know if there will be a different looking wizard being made that looks similar to the apache? I am quite sure I like the apache design a bit better but I am looking for a GSM device.
Do you mean this ???
I know what you mean , I remember seeing the thread somewhere when info was very scetchy. The pictures we saw if I have you right where the K-Jam or Wizzard and the Apache although minus the arial. The first shots I saw of these were like this . Saying that though Mobilefun.co.uk swear their K-Jam unit will be CDMA even after speaking to them and sending them the Imate spec sheet .. If so then it's the closest guarded secret this century.
The Apache has just been released on Sprint in the states .. You lucky things  I think though the Apache is now a bigger device than was speculated .. Could be wrong though

yeah that is the one. i am really looking forward to the wizard since it seems to have everything i am after with the exception of built in GPS which i will sadly have to live without.
it seems like the units that are coming out are all in the qtek 9100 style which i am not too crazy about. i plan on buying a wizard the second it comes out but i would like to buy the latter version if possible. trouble is that i am not sure if i will be able to contain myself from buying the qtek 9100 once it comes out. especially since we have not seen any of the companies use the latter version as of yet. who knows when it is going to come out or even if it ever will.
I always thought the alternative styles were prototypes. I do remember seeing different versions in the FCC database but the only difference was that one had a camera, the other didnt (to make the phone acceptable in areas where cameras are forbidden).
It is Dopod 838

Big ROM and improve mobile signal.
What is the "code name" for O2 Atom Life?
Hi everyone,
Which countries is this available in?
I have not seen it in singapore yet.
Is it available in thailand. And if so how much is it?
If it is available I might ask my friend to buy as he is going to Bangkok this weekened.
Regards,
Mike.
It is available on the street in Hong Kong now. The retail price is HK$6680.
I think O2 Atom Life also named Appolo...
ya, it is distributed under different names in different regions
Not seen in Singapore, eh? Nope, I count 3 shops in SLS selling this... unit still looks like plastic, tho. <_<
$1400++ (hella prohibitive!), but it has everything you could possibly want. Wifi, 3G, FM Radio, "HUGE! Tracts of land..." you name it.
You can buy it here http://www.anythingonline.com.au/, it is cheaper than Hong Kong.
Sorry, the price is about the same as in Hong Kong. But you can place mail order here. http://phones.anythingonline.com.au/c481/category102
700-1500US in Thailand ... (seems like noone really knows a price ;-)
okay gps but not garmin ... ;-)
I finally brought this phone. It is very fast, a few initial comments from my side:
1. No doubt, big internal memory, I can install all app. to main memory.
2. GSM connect is not as good as 838 Pro, sometimes got no signal.
3. I tried install Mapking, but cannot start properly, other software seems no problem.
4. No smartdialing, which is for 3G phone.
I have sold my Herald for a good deal, now I am confused which device to buy.
Please advice
Regards

TYNT II
FTMFW!!!!!!!!!!
as soon as tmobile rolls it out.. its mine.. muahahahhahaa
If you don't need a keyboard the Polaris is a wicked phone...or maybe a shift if your ballin' out of control.
The Shift is not a phone.. it's like 7+ inches long and is a UMPC...but the Advantage is considered a phone and still fits in a pant pocket..unless it's a guy that's wearing those stupid brand new super tight & tapered wussie looking girlies pants they try to sell in the men'sdept stores that have no pocket space at all.. but if you're wearing like Rockawear or whatever..then they might fit in the pocket.. hehe btw... the next gen of Advantage is coming out... the Enhanced Advantage X7510
Why did you sell the Herald before getting your next phone lined up??
What are you looking for in your phone?? another pda phone? or just a smart/multimedia phone? something flashy or something powerful? with or without FM radio? blablablablablabla.... give us some more info on what you want! Do you need 3G? or 3.5G? or too poor to afford it lot a lot of other people hehe.
.. :'(
did you already get a new one?
Try out the Touch Vogue or Touch Cruise...
or Sedna... or do you if you liked your P4350.. go for a Panda(cool name hehe for p6300) or TyTn II
What's your budget??
Anyone keeping up with news from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona???
is there a thread for that yet?
Thank you very much for your openions, I baught a TyTn II, Lovely device, Solid and Fast.
Best Regards

HTC's hipsteriffic invitations for a June 24th event in London contained precious few clues (DUDE'S WEARING A ROSE), but the Economic Daily News is now reporting something totally reasonable: it's for the Hero and Lancaster, HTC's presumed next Android phones.
Curiously, the paper refers to the two phones as one device, in two versions differentiated only by a keyboard.
The HTC Hero will be available in two versions, with and without a QWERTY keyboard. The model with a keyboard will be named HTC Memphis, or HTC Lancaster for sale by AT&T exclusively in the US for six months starting the third quarter, the paper indicated.
It certainly looks like there'll be a bit more than that to set the devices apart, and for the sake of variety, I hope there is. In any case, we'll be there. [Economic Daily News via Digitimes]

Looks like we won't be getting the Hero, or we have to wait until after the 6 months AT&T has it exclusively?
that phone is UGLY!! the mytouch 3g or what ever their calling it . looks way better
The version without the keyboard will probably be Hero, since the Lancaster is the one for AT&T.

how about this one?
http://ow.ly/b3EG
Anyone noticed that at least the Lancaster version has only a 240x320 display?
If this is also true for the HTC Hero version, it would be a clear disadvantage.

LMAO!!!!..............You are absolutely right. And why do they intend on doing the "Chin" thing on these devices. I mean im not really complaining(Lie) but i really want to know why and what purpose dos it serve.......lol im just saying.
this means that we're gonna have a better hero build with bluetooth that works
I currently have an unlocked Touch Diamond on AT&T that I tether to my laptop and use very often for an internet connection since I live in an area where I cannot get anything other than dial-up over a line. I've seen that the international Hero has software from HTC for tethering in Windows, but I'm thinking that this is probably not the case with the branded phones here in the US, which is unfortunate since I'm no longer under contract and Verizon has better coverage in my hometown and surrounding area. Do people know of any tethering possibilities with the Eris?

Download PDANet from the Market, install the desktop client and you're golden! Here's my last speedtest from DSL Reports using my Eris on VZW in Yuba City, CA.

Wow, it's not that I don't believe you, but this does almost seem to good and simple to be true. Are there a couple others with experience with this program that might be able to advise of potential pitfalls, or is this really as perfect for what I need as it looks?

Yes, I found PDAnet after hours of searching for a tethering solution and tried it. Works like a champ. I have had no issues to date using it. It also let me put my iPhone loving friend in his place.
