I'm not entirely sure what I did, but I think I just bricked this thing. Is there any way to restore the apps that I deleted off my Hero? I basically can't do anything with it. I can make phone calls but that's about it. I get a force close message that says "com.htc.RosieUtiltiy has stopped unexpectedly" and won't do anything than show me a phone pad after that.

Lmao no man u didn't brick. Only one way to do that and that's to flash a GSM radio. Just dl and flash a different rom. Make sure u wipe data and dalvik before flashing a new rom.

The problem I'm having is that I can't access anything through the PC either. Basically, I'm in over my head without a snorkel. I have the nandroid backup I made when I rooted the phone but don't know how to restore it.
Edited to add: When I say I have the backup, I mean it's on my PC but I don't know how to get it from there to the phone or even get past the dial pad.

Go into recovery mode and there is an option to connect to PC from there. I think its the second option. There u can transfer things to ur ad card. Once u get what u want to flash on ur SD card go to wipe and wipe the first two options and then either go to flash from SD or backup/restore nandroid. This is all from recovery. (Where u hit power and home button at same time when phone is off
At this point, you should turn your attention to a microsd adapter/card reader. Take your microsd card out of the phone (make sure it's safe to remove), put it in the card reader, and plug the card reader into your pc (if your pc has a slot for it). Transfer your backup from the pc to the cardreader. When finished, take the sdcard and put it back into the phone, and voila, you should now have your backup from the pc on your phone.

All I'm seeing when I go into the recovery mode is an option to clear storage. When I do that, it pulls up an option to reset phone which reboots the phone to the same problem I'm having. Am I doing something completely wrong?

The backup is on the card already. The problem is not being able to access anything from the phone aside from the dialer.

Hey that's what this place is for. Everyone helps when they can
Was drinking last night and went outside. Managed to drop my phone face first onto the concrete. The screen is cracked now, but is still functional. So this raises two questions:
1) Before filing insurance claim, should I return phone fully to stock?
2) How should/would I go about backing up my apps, and data, so that when I get the new phone I can just transfer them to it?
Thanks for the help.

Titanium backup (free, from the market) should work for backup.
install clockwork mod recovery, nandroid backup backs up your entire phone in the Backup and Restore menu
I know how to use titanium, and do nandroid. What i'm asking is how to transfer that information to the new phone that I will be getting.

Both methods offer a restore function. Install the program of your choice, then select restore. keep a copy of your sdcard of course...
Lol, Jocala thanks - I never even thought about everything being stored on the sd card. Your the man
thats great- I did not realized you could a nandroid backup and place it on another phone- that would be a nice way to produce some clones!

I've done this before but you have to remember when restoring the backup to the new phone, that the kernel is on the boot partition that is not part of the backup. You have to flash the same kernel you were using on the other phone.
the only thing I have on my phone is Fresh 3.4.01 nothing else and it reboots at will, like a 50% boot, ie: screen remains and phone appears to reboot, but its not liek when you turn it on........seems to be happening more and more...
If I do a factory restore will I lose all my contacts ??
what do you guys think ? thanks
Did u do a complete wipe before u flashed the rom??? sounds like u didnt....
You can export your contacts to your SD card for a hard copy, and your contacts are synced with your Google account. Google.com/contacts.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Login to your Google account and see if your contacts are backed up. If not do what someone said and export to your card. Wipe and see if you still have an issue if so try a different rom.
thanks for the replys
I bought the phone new,had the last fresh on it, was only 4-5 weeks ago ?
So i`m using it for a few days works great right, then i get into the phone and see what its running, and google it and see there`s an update available, so i contacted the guy i bought it from and he says no problem do the update if you want...
So i downloaded the file, plugged in my phone to the computer put the file where it told me to, rebooted phone pressing the volume down was it ? and followed the instructions....
So basically it did an update WITHOUT wiping the phone..... truthfully i did`nt have it long enough to know if it was rebooting before i did the update so i`m not sure if its the phone or the software...
These phone are so darn cool i love it to no end, and just want it to work 110% like the rest of yours.
I am an IT consultant and could use a good remote desktop app as well, any recommendations ? as all the ones I have downloaded so far have asked for full access to my phones every move ! whats up with that ??!!!
hey thanks in advance all here you guys rock

If someone else rooted your phone there are a few things you need to do. You need to make sure you have Amon_ra recovery installed and you need to to a nand backup with Amon_ra because it backs up the wimax keys. You also need to do a full wipe when installing a new rom wipe cash and dalvik I do it two times. Than install the new rom, keep in mind you will loose everything and always do a nand backup before installing the new rom. Now if your going from a 3.1 to a 3.2 rom update a wipe is not always needed but a nand backup is incase you need to go back. Hope this helps.
If you know how to root or are capable of following instructions to the end, I say unroot and try to use it like that. If the problem persists, take it in for service. My phone started rebooting randomly because the processor was overheating. I troubleshooted by replacing the battery, changing ROM, unroot, take it in. The phone got to the point where any data intensive app would make it turn off (maps, navigation, YouTube).
might wanna check out this thread. hope this helps

Is there a way to take a nandroid backup from a phone, and move it to another phone? I'm having an issue with my X's screen and it would make my life very easy if I could just use a nandroid backup to bring it back how I like it when Verizon gives me the new device.

Yes... You can.. but it would require someone to SBF their phone, then wipe data/cache. Then they would need to root their phone and install bootstrap all without every having set up any kind of accounts (fbook, gmail, etc.)
Whenever you take a nandroid, it captures all data on the phone...so essentially if you took a nandroid from someone who regularly uses their phone... you would wind up with all of their accounts and what not... Prob not something most people want to give out.
I would suggest using RSDlite and the correct SBF file for your bootloader version.
I think you misunderstood me. My own phone is getting replaced (screen issue), and I wanted to see if I could make a nandroid now, put it on my computer/sdcard, then load it on my new phone that Verizon sends me.
Ah! Then yes that should work. Agfter installing bootstrap you would just need to paste the nandroid folder (using the yyyymmdd-hhmm or whatever the folder title style is) into the /sdcard/clockwordmod/backup folder.
I dont think there should be any problem...but I dont know anyone that has tried this.

I did this to fix a buddy's phone. Made a nandroid of my phone and restored it on his. Just don't rename the folder to something with spaces. He did this and it ended up not working. I replaced the spaces with underscores and it worked fine.
Yes this will work. Just make a nandroid before you return it and restore it when you get a new one. However, make sure that you are using the latest software version when you make the backup or you will brick your phone trying to restore it
Hi there,
Its been a long time using the Note 3 since 2013. It had many issue but still carried on. But few days back when weak up in the morning saw the phone was off, though it was in charge full night. When turned it on it stuck in the Samsung glowing logo and nothing after that, it keep showing the same logo until it power is gone. Don’t know what happened that night, it was installing an update by itself or not.
Then google it and no steps helps, used odin and reflash with latest firmware from sammobile but that too didn’t help. I’ve lots of data in internal storage including sms and contacts and pictures. I’ve no issue to throwing off the phone but I cant lost all data in it, it will be a huge loss as just became a father and lots of pics on my new born baby, so you can understand the value.
Can anyone suggest how can I recover the data? Check the attachment for its current state. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how viable, but have you tried to install a custom recovery (TWRP, won't erase your media) and access recovery, connect to the computer and enable MTP.
It would be totally up to you.

Short version: Download the TWRP .tar file for your specific model and flash via Odin. I'm not sure about the PIT file, I've never messed around with it.

With the TWRP flash after done can I connect to my PC to get the data back? or do I only have to copy it to memory card? If so then can I use an OTG pendrive to copy? issue is I dont have so large free memory card to take backups.

With TWRP all you have to do is to boot into recovery and select the "Mount" option en check if MTP is enabled. After that your PC should recognize your phone as storage and you can recover/move anything from the internal SD card to the computer or to a USB drive if you want, or just save it to the PC. However, this will only allow you to recover things you have saved in your internal memory. This only includes photos, videos, whatsapp files, etc.... and not contacts, SMS and app settings.

ok thanks for the details, I've set everything and just waiting to hit the start button for TWRP Recovery. Before doing just wanted to know isnt their any file that I can copy and replace in other phone like contact.spb which stored all contact data (just for example)
And If I do the TWRP Recovery, after those backup done can I go back to the original recovery just by flashing it again? then I will look for another way to turn on the phone?

I think it IS possible to return to previous recovery (I've never attempted it) but you'd have to find the file to flash via Odin and try to return that way.
I'm not sure about moving your contact information from one phone to another by the method you described, I always sync my contacts via my Google account so usually any other phone I sync with Google has all my contacts.

After the backup done from TWRP when I boot to system the TWRP option never again, even by going to recovery menu it went to the stock recovery option. Any idea how to take the contact and sms backup?

Hi, Thank you, I never payed with the phone and neither rooted though I'm a IT guy. With the twrp I couldnt see the root folder, though I checked to mount system but still not. I dont know how to root it, just want to throw the phone off after taking backup. Now trying with the CWM recovery and taking a full backup, dont know even it can be restored in other phone, looks like the backup is very larger. I've feb month contact and sms backup I used kies to do it. But recently my new card pin sent by the bank sms and cant use it until I get it.
Experience with this phone:
After 6month vibration gone
after 2 year charging port gone
Replaced at service station and thereafter no tower in room, no 3g, only 2g. 3g if I only if I go out side still only 20%time I get 3g.

I believe it is easy to fix by wipe cache
Did you ever do wipe cache in recovery?
If never do that, try wipe cache and dont wipe other things.
After that reboot, see if that bootloop still there.
99% success if what you said is correct.

Yes I know the issue is bootloop but how to solve this? I also tried few software for auto fix like fonepaw-android-data-recovery but nothing helped.
I can take the full system backup from CWM, the backup is very large like over 10GB but there have no option to take sms and contacts only. I dont know even with the backup I can restore it in other phone. If possible, restore and then I can take the sms and contact backup from there.
I did wipe cache partition 100 times. Nothing helped.

Most likely, yes. I've never done it, but you could also search for a .??? extension reader (depends on what file extension the contacts and sms files are, not really sure) on google and try to read them that way, it is a high possibility that you might find software for your PC specifically designed to read those files.
Heck, you might even be able to open them with a text reading app, who knows.

Just flash TWRP by Odin
After finish with Odin go to recovery mode
Go to advance then file manager
At root folder, go data/data
Backup what you want save to SD
But I believe our contact location is same
Mine at /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/
If fail you need root
Inside contact folder got .db files
You can read using root explorer, root explorer got sql lite reader, you can read it.

Great, thanks for your help and feedback. I'm trying again today and let you know what happens. With a CWM version I think my phone is rooted but not sure. While installing I saw the CWM saying rooting for a sec and then restart.
So after few days I got some time to work on it. I did CWM Recovery and took the full backup and the format and reset. Now the phone turned on and restored the backup by CWM but again its in Boot loop. Now what to do? and yes I think its rooted now.
I only need contacts sms and action memo, thats all
