FYI, the Hero is a low temp beast!!! - Hero CDMA General

Ok, so yesterday I had the pleasure of going to Cleveland for a football game. Being as I was leaving one wonderful wife and four children at home, I wanted to keep my phone close by. It was about 13 degrees at game time, with the windchill at about 0.
yes, I have insurance on the phone.
I kept it in my jacket pocket, checking my txt and other email and such and it worked flawlessly. Big ups to HTC for making a sturdy device that can handle the elements well.
also, the Sprint Navigation on the HTC gets major props also.
Browns won, they also deserve a head nod

heck yeah
Yeah, I had it out with me on a four hour walk in my jacket this weekend.
It was 3 degrees with a -16 degree windchill (cold)
Checked hero several times during the walk and it was fine.
Battery temperature got down to around 26 degrees from what I remember. (thanks to the curvefish battery widget I was able to see this quickly)
I was surprised the screen still looked really good, and took touch and swipes with no problem. (My old blackberry - 8830 - would become almost unreadable in the cold, and the screen refreshes were very slow)

awesome, i'll have to check that widget out... even though it's 75 degrees here right now lol

i live in medina and i was supprized they won i think the cold was on their side

I had mine out this morning when it was 4F. I needed to grab a quick pic of something. It kept coming back with blurry photos (in full sunlight). Otherwise, everything worked fine (well, except my fingers- touch screens don't work well with gloves on, or at all really, and it was insanely freakin cold).

the only time my screen has gone slow is at work. i spend time in a 40 below freezer with a -60* wind chill. after about 10 minutes in there, with my phone in my sweatshirt pocket, it will slow down pretty bad. doesn't take long for it to speed right back up though. it does way better than my 8330 blackberry in the cold.
i would test it's true extremes if i didn't care about having to replace it when i freeze it solid.

that might have more to do with the lense cover fogging over from the change from nice warm and humid pant pocket or coat pocket to oh my god its cold air. if you let it adjust to the temp the lense should clear right up. or frost over.

How hot have you gotten you phone??

Im just being curious about other peoples observations.. I am currently running cm 5 on my Mt3G and im running the OC patch/JIT/and swap/cc... now normally my phone runs between 85 and 98 degrees Fahrenheit, but since i have been running cm 5 like i am i have not seen a temp under 95 and last night was as high as 118 deg.
So just wondering how hot has your phone gotten, and how hot do you think it has to be to cause permanent damage??
Dude my g1 does that all the time. After cm5 it is insanley hot all the time. 115 F is my max. If it gets to hot it can cause permanent but by any chance is your g1 over clocked?
I get mine pretty hot. I usually start out with a light dinner by candle light, obviously a nice floral arrangement from the grocery store doesn't hurt but I like to have them take the flowers out of the regular packaging and put them in some nice colored paper. My G1 thinks I went the extra mile that way.
After dinner and the flowers, I'll stick my G1 on the charger to get it "warmed" up. I bought it a cradle charger which really gets it's motor running if you know what I mean.
After that, we usually cuddle in front of the TV and settle into a movie and by that time my G1 is red hot. If I'm lucky, later on when we retire to the bedroom, my G1 will let me slide open it's keyboard, and if I'm really lucky I get to "go in the back" by taking off the battery cover!

I stopped reading after the first sentence....... can't take it any longer... laughing soo hard xD
phone is never much over 40 centigrees I think... what's that in farenheit?
i have horrible habits of sleeping on my phone on accident lol and it gets really hot when i do that and it still runs fine
this is kinda suppose to happen. cm5 is a 2.1 eclair rom. g1 isnt suppose to handle it. cpu is running harder than before and that is why the battery is hot. try to have apps like advanced task manager or taskiller. so you can kill apps you dont need at the time so your phone wont get hot
This has nothing to do with 2.1 not being designed for dream. That is a load of horse turd.
This has to do with CPU FREQUENCY.
CM5 runs the CPU ***FASTER*** than stock.
Turn down your CPU and it'll cool off!
Note: Stock frequency 384 MHz is not available as a result of "turbo mode". You have the choice of 245 MHz or 480 MHz. Stock on CM5 is an insane 528.

Brings back old times. lol.

Cold weather, let the phone get to room temperature first.

Hi all,
I'm receiving my DHD today and it's exceptionally cold today, it's actually snowing where I am. I thought I would share my experiences with brand new electronics and very cold weather.
If any of you are receiving your DHD in the UK during this very cold time I would highly recommend that once you receive it you should let the device reach room temperature before turning it on, it would of more than likely spent a whole evening if not more in a very cold warehouse or in a delivery persons van which means the device has been subjected to below freezing temperatures, turning the device on immediately after it's come in from the cold could cause condensation to form on the inside of the phone and no one wants that.
Thats a really good point. even though i have had mine for 2 weeks. it does get pretty cold now. so i will think about that if i ever leave it lying around in the cold.
Aluminium init. HTC boffins thought it through. Conducts heat quickly, eg from battery and processor to the metal. then dissipates quickly form metal to the air.
Sound advice!
When my DHD arrived on Friday it was absolutely freezing cold and condensation instantly formed on the screen as soon as I removed the plastic film, so there was no way it was being turned on!
Left it for a while to warm up as I read the manual

That is the first thing I noticed yesterday when mine arrived, when I pulled it out the box it was actually freezing cold and my warm hand immediately caused the screen to fog up, I put the phone down and waited a few hours before I turned it on.
You read the manual, you obviously not a real man
iv had mine for about two or so weeks and i live in the UK and the DHD get very cold and when your outside on the way to college it is even colder.
Who reads the manual
so u dont take yr fone out in the cold
I do I just don't want any snow on the screen.

Well, I skimmed through the manual, screwed 15 legal virgins, rescued an old woman's cat from a tree, chopped up 20 trees for firewood, and by that time my DHD was at room temp.
Turned it on. It's OK.

Who else plays with their kickstand. I do.

I was reading another thread and noticed another user flicks the kickstand in and out when they're bored I do the same thing how about you guys? Just trying to make small talk before I ask you all out. My name is Yevo.(fututlrama reference btw not actually looking for a date)
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
If I'm not doing anything, I'll mess around with the kickstand. I don't stay still very well you see...
Haha I do, everyone looks because it makes that clicking sound when it goes out then in.
I do the same... When Im on the phone at work I flick it... Or I hold the phone by it and spin it... I Probably shouldn't do that but oh well...
I'll admit, I fidget and mess with the kickstand whenever I'm in a boring meeting or whatever. Wore out the kickstand a bit on my first EVO doing that...
Yea, I flick it open and close all the time
I actually use it to prop my phone up. lol I use my Slingbox A LOT. I'll miss the kickstand, but it won't stop me from upgrading.
I know it is early in the thread, but not one penis joke?
I mess with mine all the time, I foubg that all it takes it a little pressure on the hinge side and it pops right open.
Haha yeah I do the same. I'll be standing somewhere reading on it while flicking the kickstand. It's become a habit of mine
yes i play with mine occasionally.
lol i do too when i am bored...
Only when my wife's out of town.

Exactly! I am constantly popping it up like that and slapping it back down
...giggity
-Just warming up!
yeah it doesnt take much to get my kickstand standing haha i dropped it when i was playing with it once and it fell on the kickstand, now it closes easier, opens quick, but stays locked in whatever position i leave it in
Haha, yeah, I flick it in and out all the time!
I'm actually surprized at how well it's held-up. When I first saw it, I was like well....that's going to break in a month!
Off topic:
When on the forum home, this thread is displayed as "Who else plays with their..."
Let the imagination run wild!
I flick it out, touch the underside, then flip it back in place.

Man, that would have been a great marketing ploy: Built-in Kickstand, that also works for warding off needy girlfriends and other unwanted people - flicks in and out with ease!

The Atrix is Waterproof!

I was at the bar on Monday night and dropped my phone into a pint of beer!
Bar tender very quickly gave me a bowl of rice to dry the phone out with. 2 days later and the phone still seems to be working fine.
so when I dump mine in water and it isn't waterproof are you going to pay me back?
Awesome!
My sister's iPhone 4 went for a drive and it most certainly isn't waterproof. It makes a sturdy paper weight now (not that it wasn't one before )

That is not waterproof -_-;;; The submerge your phone in rice is simply a trick to dry the phone.
The beer did not penetrate because the barley and hops were repelled by the locked bootloader.
I really hope so!
I dropped mine in the toliet last night and have had it sitting in a bag of rice all night. Fingers crossed!

Why would it be waterproof? It went for a drive... Apparently it can't handle the speed, huh?

Starting RSD protocol support

I meant to say dive lol. That's what happens when you bounce between xda and autoblog.
It can handle the speed. My Atrix went for a drive after my iPhone and came back with a speeding ticket. Apparently the Atrix is capped on how fast it can go even though it uses the same roads as the iPhone.
lol, my friends berry sat in the lake for 20 minutes, totally submerged, we finally found it, he left it off for 72hours, turned it on and it still works to this day....
so i guess.....
Yea.... Generally there is absolutely no issue with an electronic device that isn't waterproof actually getting wet and still being functional. The key, and probably what Alex2x3 did wrong, is letting it dry long enough. The device getting wet is one thing. Something will initially short and the phone will shut off. If it's not entirely dry though, and you try to turn it on, then you're powering up a damp device, and that's a whole different ballgame. A friend of mine got shoved into the pool with his phone still in his pocket. Let it dry for a while and it still worked.
Unfortunately for Alex, i don't believe letting it dry overnight was quite long enough. Think it'd usually be best to wait 2-3 days before attempting to turn it on.... if not a little longer depending on the size of the device. All it takes is a little bit of water that wasn't able to quite work it's way out, and *poof*.

Never thought my HD2 would move to first backup!

Took my HD2 for a saltwater swim off the dock last week. Pulled the battery, flushed with fresh water, shook out the water, hair dryer on low for three hours. Next afternoon put the bat in and working fine. Water spot on screen top took about three days to disapear completly. I know, lucky. Leaving today on a three month sail so didn't want to depend on an ify phone. I had an upgrade overdue so off to Best Buy holiday sale fornthe Samsung Infuse.
Was going to set it up and put it back in the box till needed. Nope. Got this thing rooted and unlocked in about 20 minutes. Titaniumed my apps in and there is no looking back. Read the screen fine in the bright sun? No problem. 4.5" screen. Beautiful. Every thing my HD2 could do on Android but more stable. Battery life is incredible. Fast using launcher pro.
Only drawback for some people might be that it is a little taller. Still fits in my jeans front pocket with a case mate pop case on just fine.
Sorry HD2. It was a good run while it lasted. You are a great phone, but sometimes a man has to just move on.
Aha.
And now, what?
Have fun with it.
