*** htc hd2 leo call volume and quality*** help!! - HD2 General

Hi all,
Does any one know if the popping/cracking/volume too high is going to be sorted as I'm on my second HD2 and starting to feel I should get my money back, great device but it is a phone at the end of the day and phone call quality very annoying.
Called Htc and was told, the guys in korea are working on this issue!
But I cant help but feel this is hardware not a software issue.
Any advice would be appreciated, cheers

Call quality is great with my HD2.
Anyway, we had threads on this topic already. Don't create redundant threads, use the search function.
This should be closed.

Yeah....you must be 1!!!!!!!!!!!! of the lucky ones then.

Mine has the same issue, especially when the signal is weak, popping offen happens.

You can turn up the volume of the speaker by using the side keys. Don't know if this is a really obvious point or not cos i didn't think of trying that when i first got it.

Hi i had sound/vol problems.these were cured as soon as i upgraded from 1.43 rom to 1.61 now my sound is good ,try newer rom first.

I would love to upgrade the rom but my HD2 is branded to o2 network

Hi,
I had the problem with high volume and couldn't reduce it. By pure chance I tried the trial of Phonex from Iconsoft as I wasn't too keen on the HTC dialer and since then have had complete control over the volume. It's also a much nicer, finger friendly dialer and a much better contact manager IMHO. Well worth a try.
Hope that helps.

incall volume (again)

Sorry if this appears to be a repeated post, but i've seen a post with a supposed hack that has satisfied at least one user but others (including me) still are not satisfied with the phone volume. Unfortunately the post is misplaced IMHO in the Hermes upgrading section. Here was my question about the so called reg hacks and phone volume. Someone please help:
Are these hacks specific to certain ROM versions? I have the HTC ROMs and tried these and i still find the volume to be low. I had the original iMate (Himalaya) then the Prophet now Hermes.
Of all three, the Himalaya had incall volume close to a normal phone. Since then i found the Prophet to be way lower. A ROM upgrade helped somewhat. I thought my dissatisfaction with this would end with the Hermes purchase but i think the incall volume level is even lower than the Prophet!!!
I can't believe i'm the only one with this impression. Volume levels can be a bit subjective so i'm not sure how easy it is to compare with others. But if for instance you hold the device at a couple of feet away from your ear (less than an arms length) and replay a voice mail message at full volume, can you hear that there is any audio coming out of the device? Even in a relatively quiet room, just TV playing quietly in the background i can 't tell.
Someone with a Razr or any normal phone can be heard (other party on line) from many feet away at max volume.
This is my one o/s issue with this device. The speakerphone vol is much better than the Prophet and is quite good.
Anyone found a real universal solution for ths incall volume issue yet?

I'm with you ... this low volume thing sucks ... and I am surprised more folks are complaining about it too. Hopefully someone has a solution.
For a while there i'd thought it was my device only.
The thing is if you browse through the registry there are quite a few "volume" keys and values. I've tried a couple to see if by trial and errror i could get some volume increase but no progress.
Isn't there anyone with contact to HTC who can help? I find it strange that there would be no way to get more audio. Especially since the handsfree volume is so loud, you can get good volume playing back mp3s through the wired earphones but the incall (even through the wired earphones) is so low.
Could it be a hardware issue? (therefore not possible to fix with registry hacks).
It is true, it is sooo quiet! I tried several ROMs and several radios... Seems that only the different radio versions make some difference... Haven't tried any registry hacks yet...
I also think the in-call volume is very low. The hack appears for be for AKU 3.3 ROMs, but I haven't done that upgrade yet and search really hasn't turned up much of anything for the earlier ROMs

Same here. UK T-Mobile MDA Vario II. In call volume too low but just like everyone else the speakerphone too loud! Hopefully someone will identify the registry hack - there must surely be one?
I'm in the same boat and would love to see more attention going into the phone part of this PDA Phone--thanks to anyone who can help identify the registry hack or help solve this.
I, also, am displeased with the low in-call volume of my hermes. I've had the stock (Cingular) ROM, and now the XDA Live 0.20 WM6 ROM and the maximum in call earpiece volume was the same unacceptably low level in both cases.
Surely someone knows of a fix?!
Not sure how relevant this thread is - Cingular only:

Worth noting that this is not a universal problem. Mine for example with in call volume at max using scroll wheel whilst on call is WAY too loud!!
Mike
Thanks for the link. Alas, the other thread appears to be for the newer almost-official Cingular ROM... I think most of us here are looking for an equivalent hack for the older ROM (yah, I know we could just bloody upgrade.. but I'm taking my upgrades one step at a time ).
And yes, as a data point, I am on Cingular.

My incall volume problems r solved.. with these regedits..
I only changed the values to CC in these 2 keys in all Audiogain keys (resco regeditor)
EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME
RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InCall\AttenuationCategory=0
My call quailty has improved a lot. i could barely hear the callers voice earlier.

Hi, i did experiment with the tweaks, to be honest now i am not sure if they actually help. The audiogain tweak seemed to work on my PDA when i had WM6 running. But for Wm5, i dont need to use it, my prophet sounds fine.
Am tired of buggy wm6, so back to fast n stable Aserg rom, which has no sound issues for me..
no updates? mine SUCKS!

Strange sound issues (this is a tough problem!)

Hey all, im glad this site is up its been great finding what i can really do with my wizard!
here is he issue im having. the wizard has 3 different speakers and 1 microphone. 2 side speakers (used to play music, or speaker phone) and the 1 main speaker (used for hearing calls). none of the 3 work when im making calls, listening to music, alarms, or any of the "screen click" sounds and the microphone doesnt work on phone calls or note recordings. however, the one time the speakers do work is when i have an incoming call, i tried listening to see which speaker its coming out of and it sounds like all 3. the headphone jack still works so thats what ive been using. pressing the speaker phone button while on a call (that i cant hear) doesnt do anything, the UI doesnt show any change or switch to indicate its changed to speaker phone and the "speaker on" button doesnt change to "speaker off" like it used to.
originally i thought this was a ROM issue, i was using the manufacturer's ROM (cingular 8125, unlocked for tmobile service) so i followed the lovely tutorial and switched my phone over to the t-mobile 2.26 ROM. this had no effect, so I then upgraded to XDA's WM6 ROM and while i love this new ROM it still did not fix my sound issue.
im stumped, any help anyone can offer would be great. I wanted to post here before i crack it open to look at all the insides.
same problem!
I'm having the exact same problem! I just noticed the problem recently, when my phones alarm didn't sound. I'm running a custom cooked rom from mattk_r 318 kitchen, but I don't think the rom is the problem, as i am indeed still hearing sound from the head phone jack. I don't think the internal speakers are broken, as when a call comes, the phone rings, and the sound come out from the speaks as mentioned above!
Help!
dropped?
have you ever dropped your phone?
I have dropped mine a couple times and thats the only cause I can come up with. But this never seemed to be a problem until recently.
no major drop recently.
i havent really dropped it recently at all.and for some reason i dont think the hardware is the problem, because i tryed voice recorder, and it records my voice and i can play it
back through the headset.so that confirms that the mic and both spealers work (rings
when incoming call). i really dont want this to be the downfall for my wizard! is there
any key registry entrys for sound maybe that we could have a look at? btw my wizards a G4 if thats makes any difference.
please help!!
mine is a g3, if it were a software issue then reflashing should have solved it. right? i dont know enough about the internal workings of the wizard to know what a flash actually does.
?
Anyone have any ideas on what I can try?
Well, a flash is an OS upgrade/downgrade. It contains drivers, programs, registry settings, things of that sort. Sounds like your problem is hardware related, nothing to do with the OS itself.
I assume the warranty on that baby has already expired, so you're pretty much on your own.
Two options come to mind:
1. The obvious... buy another Wizard
2. The not so obvious... buy another Wizard with a broken screen and take all of its guts out and put them in yours.
A third option also exists... (ther's always a third way)
Mind you, this is for INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY! In no way do I condone the below mentioned method.
Get a new line of service with Cingular and buy the Wizard to use with it. Exchange their boards, swap the IMEIs using the Wizard Service Tool utility found on these boards, cancel the line of service and return the "new" Wizard.
Sound issues
I have had a similar problem but located my problem to the microswitch which is in the headphone socket. Might be worth trying pulling the headphones in and out a few times to see if it allows the microswitch to release (if that is the problem?)
Steve
The wizard is magic
Some how my wizard seemed to repair it self. Its sound is working again...i didn't reflash or do anything special....weird. I think its because the phone had a good vibrate....ive got one of those speaker docks for the wizard..i put it in there...got a phone call and talked and stuff...but while it was in there (with the mic plugged it) it vibrated alot...maybe that flicked the switch mentioned above?
weird..this phone never ceases to amaze me. I just hope it doesn't happen again... because it appears to be emerging as a problem as the wizards get older?
Keep up the good work guys!
LOL!!!!!!!!! its so simple and yet so amazingly smart
wow, Steve you are the most amazing person EVER!
I put the headphone piece in about 1/10 of the way and slowly made a swirling action as i slid it all the way in, clicked the start button on wizard and i heard the "click" for the first time in a month!
Thanks!
I tried different options to get my sound back, no luck so far
Problem started after using the headset-connector to connect it to an FM-Transmitter.
After reading this thread, my guess is that the "micro-switch" is in a wrong position. So I opend my MDA, but can't find any "switch" in that connector.
Is there some more info about that connector, a connection-diagram perhaps ?
what worked for me was inserting the headset jack in roughly, robbing each side of the headset jack to try to hit the "switch". that might work for you.
Yes!!! Thank you a lot!
I have the same problem, no sound in my speakers, just vibrate and sound in handsfree. I figure out that this micro-switch could be the problem, but I haven't know how to solve it. Thank you once again, I love my SPV!! and this community.
Fixed!
Woohoo!
This problem just cropped up for me on the weekend.
Thankfully it wasn't long before I happened across this thread.
About a minute of persistent jiggling the microphone jack did the trick.
Thanks!

Speaker volume

Hi,
I have noticed that when receiving a call, the volume of the person who is speaking is quite low - I have increased the volume bar to the max but still the sound quality is low and I can't hear the other person clearly. Is there a way to increase the sound?
Thanks for your help!!

Thanks for the reply! I have SRS WOW but there's no much difference when a person is speaking to me on the phone. The voice is very low and it's very difficult to hear sometimes. I am using Tomal v8.5 -->could it be the rom is in fault?
Don´t think it´s the ROM, I have used 8.5 for a long time and never had that issue.
Perhaps a hardware problem?
Let´s see what other members think...
have you try with ear phone / hands free? if it working well with ear phone but not without it, there could be a hardware problem.
is there any new software instaled? try to full backup first then do hardreset. it's better to test on fresh. if it still, try to reflashing, perhaps you had a bad flashing cousing that.
That happened to me as well when I got my Shadow...
I finally realized that there was a protection sheet on the panel...
I know.... that was so silly...

HD2 = Worst phone I've ever had

Sure it has a lovely screen.
Sure the build quality is nice.
Sure the internet browsing is fantastic.
Now the basic functions of the phone:
Texts are delayed and, I kid you not, often go to a different person in your contacts list!!!
Phonecalls are terrible. The earpiece volume is SO loud it is deafening, you need to raise the volume and then lower it on every single call in order to get a low volume. This is an extremely tedious process.
Speakerphone is unusable in anything but a noisy environment. It is WAY too loud, even on the lowest setting. It also distorts like crazy.
Hard keys on bottom only light up *after* you have pressed them.
CoPilot Live is rubbish!!! Unusable. Takes you the wrong route time and time again.
Calendar snooze time is set at 5 mins and impossible to edit for longer.
The camera is actually very good, despite all this talk of it being poor and the pink colour in the centre. It's all the *basic* phone problems which make this the worst mobile phone I have ever used.
Is this just my handset? Have I got a faulty one????
Unfortunately you are right, I am having the same issue. I don't care about the Camera.. I just need to perfrom the basic phone features.
Hopefully HTC is reading us.
We are still using the first Stock ROM which is obviously buggy and it is expected.
However, HTC should hurry up and come up with a new upgrade and Hotfix patches, else, I will seriously consider selling the device. I can't wait more than two other weeks.
only problem with mine is the camera...none of the other issues you say you have...
to bad
People said the same things with the blackstone and diamond, magic, atom, kaiser etc etc etc. Is this your first HTC? last phone a nokia? For every problem you stated there's a solution, reg tweaks, programs what ever. This is my 5th htc device, they all start out like crap but once their tweakt they are superior to any other phone. But once again out of the box it's no nokia.
Good luck and good hunting (for the tweaks)
Um... slight exageration... there a couple niggles so its the worst phone ever? I think its the best phone ever, with a few niggles.
I dont have a problem with my texts being delayed. It lags a little bit when there are loads of texts, but I just clear them out. (one niggle I would like fixing though)
The speaker volume for me is perfect, yes it is loud, but I just keep it turned down and its fine, but it also means if I need to I can turn it up! which is a much better than not being able to have it loud enough. (Fine the way it is)
Speakerphone is supposed to be loud?! again, set it to a low volume and its fine, and if you need it to be louder then you can turn it up. (Fine the way it is)
Dont care about the hard keys lighting up, took me maybe a day, if that to get used to where the buttons are, dont need them to light up (Fine the way it is)
CoPilot is rubbish, but thats nothing to do with the phone, use iGO its miles better.
Calender snooze option, I hadnt noticed, will have a look...
As to if you phone is faulty, I would say operator error

Hd2 = best phone / pda ever made
I am a heavy phone / PDA user ( around 7000 min per mounth phone and i have un unlimited data contract). My only problem is that HD2 was not here 10 years ago .
Sure is not perfect and bugs are there too but if u want a bug free phone buy a classic phone not a small computer. The OS and the HTC senses are very complex programs and there is no way hell to be ever bug free.
So all HTC phones are rubbish out of the box, I need to 'tweak' them in order to get them to work? I don't mind tweaking things but basic phone functions such as speakerphone, call volume and texting *should* work out of the box. All of you who claim your phone volume is fine must be deaf! There are several guys on this forum who complain about the in-call volume, speakerphone volume and distortion coming through the speakers....so this isn't a one-off faulty handset that I own.
Take the hands off that phone and walk away. It's better for both sides.
Disappointed people, sell the God damn thing
Sell it to me cheap then! I'll be happy to pass it on to someone who appreciates it more (and has more patience)
Ah ah ah ah
Why were you so hurry to buy such expensive phone ???
Weren't you able to wait some times to see if some issues raised
Your post is ... what´s the word you like to use ... ah yes ! your post is rubbish.
Sell you phone, you are not the kind of youngster that needs such a phone
Last week I sold my iPhone 3G 16Gb and two days ago I bought my first HTC device - the HD2. Yes, it has some bugs, yes, I reseted it several times, but overall the experience is great. From the problems, mentioned in the first post, I have only the last one, but the camera in my iPhone was nowhere near the HD2 one. So, I am very happy, it is a great phone with a great community. Someone complaint that you need to tweak the device before use it, but that is a positive thing, take the iPhone, which in most cases lacks the ability for customizations. I am really glad that I changed my device and I hope, we'll see some great ROMS, games and apps for the HD2.
I arrived on the Pocket PC scene with thge Xperia X1, I would say that this was my worst phone out of the 3 I've owned.
My second was the near perfect Touch Diamond 2, great.
My present one is the HD2, which despite the issues, I would not regret buying it as I believe and hope the issues will get addressed and sorted. Yep, the best phone I've ever had.

You can try Garmin XT instead of Copilot. Other then that, i think most of the problems can be fixed software wise, we just gotta wait for new roms to come out .

No sound from other caller on earpiece

Hi All.. I posted this in Energy thread in deveopment but I think it is more suited to be answered here... anyone please help before my friend defects back to Apple!

OK Strange one here - hope someone can help!
I flashed older cookie on to HD2 for a friend and took phone to her in Malaysia - all seemed well but phone was freezing apparently so her brother went to HTC asia site and downloaded a ROM for it! GRRRR
Anyway it was a T-Mobile rom or something with a '51' radio. Since then when she makes a call she can not hear the other person through the earpiece (but can through the headset!) , but CAN hear a busy tone if the person is already on a call when she calls!
So I flashed latest Cookie Dinik style back on and replaced the Radio with 2.07.50.** and still the same!
I don't understand how the earpiece can make the busy sound but not hear the voice, yet headphone works?! I have connected remotely and used MyMobiler to see screen of HD2 and looked for anything that may be causing it but all seems fine.
If anyone has any ideas please help as she is about to go back to an iPhone after just moving to this HD2 on my say so!

hmm thats an odd issue and I would be suprised if anyone else has encountered it :S
are you positive its the ear piece speaker thats making the busy sound and not the loudspeaker on the back of the device?
also have you tried swapping between loudspeaker and normal handset mode? does the call work in loudspeaker mode but not normal speaker mode?

Good idea with the loudspeaker mode - will ask her to check that. Can't see how a rom flash could cause it - hope it's not faulty hardware!
I had a similar problem with my HD2: I wasn't able to hear my counterpart. I have tried several radio/ROM combinations with no luck. Looking at the test results I guessed it was a sporadic hardware issue of the earpiece. Sent the phone off to service, they confirmed the problem, replaced the earpiece and shipped it back, all free. Great service!
Of course, I had to restore to factory settings beforehand, including the original SPL, radio and ROM. If the phone is still under warranty I would suggest you try a hardware repair.
