I loaded up the eclair rom onto my G1, which is working fine but for some reason, I cannot find "Download Crutch" lite or full in Market. Anyone have the apk of Crutch lite that can post a link or the file?
I couldn't find it either, I'm always downloading stuff to my phone. The Opera browser can download also.
finally!
i was lookin forever to find download crutch and finally found on another xda forum from http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1537845 that linda file manager has a plug in to do exactly what download crutch uses.
it works exceptionally well, as it is also packaged as a file manager
I've always used Linda File manager but was never successful in getting unsupported file types to download unless I had Download Crutch installed.
Anyone know of an app that allows for any type of download from the gmail app? Most attachments I get just have a "Preview" button, even those that the phone can't open.

Astro file manager has the option to do so
Last night I Googled "download crutch" and found five links to the file sharing sites that had it, then I remembered I had it tucked away on my computer the whole time haha.

How do i get it to download all file types, i tried downloading a zip file and it came up with this file is not supported , i have it rooted and have a file manager, it may be simple but i am new to android
do you mean download through a browser?
if you long press the link doesn't it give you an option to save it ?
zip support is built in I think, certainly astro handles them easily.
personally I tend to use xscope-gl (1.6 version) to grab files now as it supports pretty much anything.

Download a program called androzip its safe and it works awesome.
Use another browser as I found the default Android browser wouldnt let me download zip,rar or apk files. Dolphin is a tweaked android browser, which works great. I think you can download an HD version...which might suit the 5" screen better. Check it out before you buy
Dolphin hd trailer:

I wasnt as descriptive I should have been. If you download androzip it makes zip recongizable for download and it will open them as well. Also if you need to send any file over gmail you go through androzip. Open it go to the file tap on it and choose send, no zipping required.
Thanks for all the replys guys downloaded android zip and another browser and all is well thanks
Hello chaps, what browser would you guys recommend for android?

If you install Astro file manager that has an option to allow any file to download in the default browser... its worth having anyway as its a great file manager...

I've tried this a bunch of different ways and I'm unable to install any .apk that I download. I haven't tried downloading the .apk on my computer first though. So here's what I've tried;
Standard web browser - can't download says file not supported
Dolphin HD - able to download, get parse error installing from dolphin. No install button for APK in Astro File Manager
Xscope - able to download, parse error on install. Install button for APK in Astro File Manager but does not install
I do have the install unknown sources option turned on in application settings.
What am I missing here? I am rooted but nothing has been done since rooting.

Any reason you are not grabbing them from the market?
Why do you not have the stock browser?
Regarding the stock browser, you don't install it, you just drop it in system/app I believe.

Download the Astro Manager from the market. Then go to settings and enable browser download.
It could be an error with the apk itself. I get those errors sometimes where certain apks don't download correctly. Try another apk and see what happens.
I don't always complain, but when I do, I #BlameWes

Really?
Dolphin and xscope are in the market. I'm asking why are you not downloading them from the market?
I then asked, why do you not have the stock browser already? You said you just rooted and did nothing else... so... did you delete it or something?

You're misunderstanding him. He's trying to download a file and he's saying what happens when he tries to download this file on all these different browsers. He already has the browsers installed.

^ LOL, son of a bitc*... yeah, my bad OP... I was trying to figure out WTH you were doing.
Yes, I would recommend what another person said and get Astro and turn on the browser download option.
The error messages are for not a complete download (at least thats what I normally get in those situations).
I use apps installer from the market to install non market apps. Try it out
Apparently I didn't write my original post thoroughly enough. I have tried Astro already.

Try ES File Explorer by EStrongs.
Hi,
i tried to find in the whole section of nexus one a stock browser.apk that has built-in function to download any file extensions. After looking in titanium backup program, i understand that what i need is the download manager (stock by google) that has built-in capability of downloading any file (like CM6 has). I would like to know if there's a way to grab this program and put inside my stock FRG83 rooted will work or not...and another problem is to take the download manager.apk from CM6 (or any other rom that has this kind of function). It' indeed that i want to use the stock browser.
thanks in advance
Look up Download Crutch.
I use XWind download manager...

mod edit: stop trolling dude.
Im trying to download something from 4shared.com and when i go to download it says content not supported. So i download anyway and when the file is done, its a .bin file. Also wouldnt download any apps when i was using MIkandi also. Just got a new replacement and never had problems with my other.
Bin files are just like zip files, they need to be uncompressed first. Download the file on your pc first, extract the apk, then send to phone.

Same problem here, it doesnt make any sense that it has always worked before and all of a sudden it fails. Another way around it is download it onto the desktop, and then send it to the phone, but its just not the same as before. Anyone?? Ive tried to unmout SD card, format, clear data.cahe, clearing download manager, no success.
download somethinglike Androzip, than it will associate the file extension with that app, allowing you to download it.
I've seen that a couple times on the stock browser but never while using Dolphin on desktop mode.
Hello again, ive come across another problem, ive just tried to download cyanogenmod zip file on my phone but as soon as the download starts it stops straight away, when i click on it it says download not supported for your phone??
I can download from market and i can also download a rar file from this site as well, so it just seems to be zip files.
It was fine yesterday, does anyone have any advice please??
Thanks

Wrong forum. This is more a question. But you need to install a filebrowser capable of reading zip files to download them. ES File Explorer or I/O File Explorer would do the trick. It does on mine.
Download astro file manager, free in market, and then go to preferences>> enable browser downloader. Now you can download anything
Or use Opera Mobile for your browser
