Despite doing the registry tweak suggested in the FAQ (point 24, I think), and using various cabs suggested here in the forum, my LEDs have yet to work for email or SMS notification. I've been using WinMo phones for a few years, so the failure isn't due to my "noobhood".
I find it astounding these phones were released without this working. Anyone got anymore wisdom concerning how to get these to work?
If you're referring to the green LED blinking when you have an unread SMS message or missed call, mine has been working from day one, without any tweaks.
Mine has worked from day one as well, except for when I receive an email.
i installed the cab, then realised i really didnt need it. uninstalled and it still flashes when i get an sms.
I used BsB Tweaks to enable the options under the windows "Sounds and Notifications" panel (they were unusable, grey) and set the respective entrys to "infinite" (or unlimited, however its called in english). Now they work like a charm and the LED blinks to the end of the day.

Mine has worked from day one.........but only had it one week
It works. Without any tweaks. But the orig. hotfix from HTC is installed...
It works for SMS, missed calles etc. Has anyone got it working yet for new emails received?
Mine works from the beginning too, but I am interested in making notification LED work with Skype. I asked twice already and no response.
I don't use pop email so I don't know about that, but for me it works for calls and sms
Hmmm, mine's never worked, and not even after a hard reset, so it's either hardware or the ROM I'm using (that Turkish 1.61). Time to go ROM hunting, I guess.
From the answers here, it's still not clear whether the LEDs work for email (POP or IMAP) or not.
Thanks all.
Mine works when it want to. Very intermittent.
Sorry to bump this up for my own selfish purposes, but after switching to a different ROM, the email LED still doesn't work (even with the various registry tweaks and cabs).
Just trying to get a definite answer from a broader range of users: does the LED notification work for new emails on anyone's HD2?
Thanks, and sorry for being annoying.
works for sms and missed calls but not for emails. this has been since day 1.
i think until someone creates an app, or htc releases an enhancement you won't be seeing this functionality for email.
I've had an extended email correspondence with an HTC tech today concerning the non-working email LED notification: He swears up and down that *his works perfectly*, so until such time as he (and HTC) gets more complaints, they won't be pursuing it.

Same here. No solution found yet ?
Mine works on everything besides email.
Mine works on everything. Rom ver 1.48 (WWE), using BSB tweaks to ensure all notification settings are switched on.

Really? I wonder what the difference is. I've tried 4 different ROMs, including 1.48 hoping to get this working. After flash, I add *nothing*, hoping to see if an unadulterated machine might work. No dice. Then I add BsB and add the tweaks. Still nothing.
I'm not obsessed: just work in a completely quiet profession where alarms are taboo.
Anybody got wisdom on this?
when its not working you surly messed up your registry.
For not so advanced users and people how are lazy to read a complete post for a tweak (and are installing cabs which might not been written for your Rom or manila version) i recommend to modify the registry only manualy with a registryeditor. So you can control what is changed (and change back if needed).
To activate led notification use the registryhacks which are posted in this forum so many times.
And yes, you can change almost every event notification which is listed in your soundsettings menu (email too)
A old but goody post i found in this forum:

Is there anyway that the Blackstone can play a sound when there is a missed call or missed SMS and repeat it say for example every 3 mins?
don't think there is a built-in feature for this but get spb phone suite. that has it.
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-notification-repeat-enable.html
That link will let you do what you want, and more importantly, its a freeware!!
Enjoy!
Thanks for the link.
Sounds interesting.
Thanks to you both, I find that the spb phone suite gives me a broader control, but it is nice to have the cab file too.
Seems overkill to install SBP phone suite just for the notifications...
Can anyone pls confirm:
1. Is the cab file uninstallable?
2. How often does the notification repeat?
3. Does it actually work? There are comments on the above download page that says it keeps repeating even after the text is read...
The nice cab file posted above did gave me the optie to repeat a signal.
I have not really tested it yet so far
I tried the SPB phone suite and it worked good for me. I had no issues. The intervals were 1min 5 mins .... I forgot the rest.

Has anyone tried it yet? In that link, several people posted that it keeps repeating the alert even after you have read the missed message.
Also another program option would be PhoneAlarm (lite or Pro).
Also - on a similar note, I tested some of these setting combinations. You can see the results here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459297
I am using missedcallreminder v1.2 and it works a treat......
Search for it on this site......
I just tried the .cab from post number 3.
It worked fine with the first test message I sent myself, but by the second test message, it DID repeat itself even after I had read the message. I deleted the message for it to stop reminding me and all of a sudden some five minutes later it started reminding me again!!! So, I went ahead and took the check marks off that setting. It's been five minutes and no sound yet.
That is unfortunate. That's a feature that should be considered "essential". I don't know why WindowsMobile or HTC didn't include a good working version of it with the option to remind with sound and/or vibration. We shouldn't have to turn to third-party apps for something like this.
EDIT: BTW, I think this is the program the previous poster was referring to. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405071
Read the whole thread before you install it. Some people say it uses up too much RAM. I have not tried it, so I can't say anything about it.
Thank you for the applicaion, i used to do it troguh registery but its nicer to have a program doing it for ya

I'm not completely sure (just did some limited testing) but I believe that if you press the DOWN key on the home screen it will stop the notifications, even if you son't read the message.

HELP!
I only receive SMS only when the screen is lighted. If my HD is on standby the whole day, I wouldnt receive a single SMS. THis is irritating. Whenever I ON my screen, I would receive a couple of msgs at one go, all timed hours ago. Its really irritating!!!
Anyone experience the same issue???

Nope, non of the above... have been using HD for a month plus.. still not receiving sms when on STANDBY with screen OFF... sigh.. I on my screen every couple of mins to ensure im not missing a reply to someone's sms... ugghhh!
Is this when your in vibrate mode or normal? For vibrate to work I found you have to enable it in the sound settings. This is not normally needed but for some reason you have to on our devices :S
My Touch HD is back in its box precisely because SMS (text) messages did not alert me to their arrival when the HD was in standby.
I tried all the suggestions made by other posters, including hard reset, but none worked reliably. Reading some of the posts reveals that this bug has existed since the Diamond came out but HTC is in no hurry to fix it.
I can't tell whether any of the 'ROMs' that others produce will cure this problem and am left with an expensive paperweight.
For the time being, I am back using my Treo 680, which has no problems with SMS. Sadly, I shall have to abandon it eventually because Palm does not intend to produce 64bit drivers to enable synchronization. Ah, well, nothing's perfect!

OMG! thats sad! but seriously Im feeling the same.. sometimes when i go out, i switch to a cheap basic spare fone (LG KP110). its sms is way more reliable.. I bought the HD at SG$1250 and yet I cant receive SMSs.. sighz.. tot of selling it away.. but not.. but yes.. maybe not.. sighz...
same here
I have the same issue. Randomly SMS sound does not play until i turn on the screen. I m using stock 1.56 UK Rom. I have a friend at the office with same phone and he is facing the same problem.
All settings are correct. It's obvious because lot of times i get the sound notification while in standby mode....
Don't know what to do.....cheapest phones do this right...
That is so true! i totally agree.. Sometimes it goes back to basic.. the HD gets too complicated that it doesnt even know how to notify its owner of an incoming sms.. this sucks big time.. till this very day I haf to on and off my screen every 10mins to ensure i dun miss a single sms..
If you use HD Tweak, there is an option to set the HD to wake up and notify you when it receives an SMS...
is there a way i can receive an sms with a sound notification instead of the whole phone waking up with screen lit?
is there a way to shorten the vibration when an SMS comes in? the HD vibrates quite long and strong for a single SMS. Just curious. Might help abit in saving battery's life.
Hi, I had this problem after I installed the WWE 1.14 for Middle East, especially after installing the official Arabic Lang. update from HTC !!! When I wake up the Phone from the stanby mode I Receive all the incoming messages at once and the Phone plays the SMS alert !
After Hard resetting the phone and installing a new ROM (1.19 WWE for Hong Kong) the problem didnt go till I went to Settings---> Sounds and Notifications-----> new SMS----> Disable Alert, Vibrator, Falshing Light !!! Basically disable everything and press OK to return to the touch FLO home.
After that, Go again and enable the SMS notification with or without Vibration as you like and it will work !!!
Now, I discovered that any programm that is not made buy a software house, I mean programms made by home developers prematurely screw your system especially programms that interfere with the Windows Shell and System processes and Alerts !!!
My advice is Install a fresh new WWE rom (1.19), if the alert didnt work, Go disable the Alert, press ok, return to home screen, then go back and enable it and it will work !! it seems that there are some things that does not change in the phone settings even if you hard reset or install a new ROM !!!!
For 1.19 WWE and some other Roms, Dont close SMS application directly after sending a message, just press the Home button to return back ! the SMS application interface will stay in the bakground and wont take more than 1% from your free memory ! I noticed even on my current 1.19 rom is if I send an SMS and diredcly Click the X to close the application after sending the message it will cause the phone not to receive next sms untill I open the SMS application !!! Any how, you can close it after a minute if it bothers you to keep it in the background.
I hope this helps !!! I used Duttys 1.17 and faced the 'Coruppted Ringtone problem', that the phone wont ring and switch to a default ring that is not loud and made me miss calls, only soft reset solved it but it came back every 2 weeks !!! no body could solve it even Dutty dont know what is the problem !!!
At the end it is a phone !!! should call, Ring, Send and Receive calls perfectly !! Any Small Samsung or Nokia or SonyEricsson phone worth 100 $ could do the job perfectly while we pay 800 $ for this HD and it cant ring o receive SMS !!!
Therfore, my advice is to use Stock Rom and dont install any programm that is made at home !!! or any other programm that interere with the system process and alerts or Language !!! Do not play with memory management or registry settings !!!
To customize my phone I installed SPB shell and its wonderfull and better than Touch flo except for the Music Player as you will have to use Window Media !!!
Goo Luck
Another tip,
Go to the registry using registry editor and change si follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
Locate DisableSMSWakeUpEvent entry, and change its value to 0 (the value is 1 by default).
Hope this helps

I support this view. Don't be disheartened as probs like this rarely have anything to do with hardware and are generally software bugs which are cured by just updating to official / custom ROM. (this is the best and yet worst part of thing called Micro$oft )
Please read pros and cons of flashing roms well before trying anyhing !
FYI:
HTC have confirmed that there is a bug with WM6.5 that shows that you have an unread message, while you clearly don't.
A fix is being prepared by Microsoft.
Never knew about that...
But knew about alarm ringing alarm and notification sound mixed.... and alarm does not stop... in the morning.
Battery additional info reseted to "0" so no historical info there....
No option to light signal for more that 5 minutes (thank god there is a registry tweak for that).
Well. I'll keep waiting.

I am having exactly the same issue and posted it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579772

What about the other bugs? Or am I the only one having them:
-Extra blank line between input-box and suggested words-line. Meaning the suggested words-line cross the "send"-button, and when you're picking a word, you accidently push "send".
-TouchFlo/Sense now only shows 160(?) letters in SMS-dialogue. Almost all my sms, in and out, exceed 160, so to read sms now, I have to use the Windows-dialogue(inbox). This was not a problem on WM6.1
-The input box and keyboard overlay the sms-dialogue, so what you see when you write a new text, is NOT the last you recieved, but 2 or 3 messages back in history. The newest ones are hidden behind keyboard, instead of scrolled up.
The weird thing is that these don't seem like bugs, just.. bad construction.

Yea, I'll say it's sense/manila/tf3d, but all the problems occured after the official 6.5 update.
BTW, the one bug, with last SMS's being hidden by keyboard and textbox, is the same in WinMo(inbox). Just check, go to a conversation in your inbox, and whip up the keyboard. The keyboard and text-box takes most of the screen, and what u see above it, is not the last message of the conversation.
They are not bugs, just bad ideas badly implemented i suppose. Yep, the one with send button is driving me crazy

I seem to recall there was a hotfix for this for 6.1, called something like "hotfix for fixing the problem with the extra white line when writing sms"? And still they don't implement the fix in the next version?
Hey guys i got the issue fixed using a little tool to clear the message count. Check this post, and thanks to onthemail:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1519862&postcount=3
Run the program and do a soft reset - wait a couple of seconds and the annoying green message count will disappear. If not, do it all again (run program and soft reset) and it should def work.
Good luck
Cheers

Although I'm not experiencing the exact same problem the topic starter posted, I'm also having a problem with the HTC SMS. When I go to contacts, choose one of my favorites, go to the sms tab and send an sms from there, sometimes the sms doesn't show up in the thread, it just totally disappears from the device. As far as I know the messages are sent to the person, but it's annoying to me to not be able to read back what I wrote.
Anyone familiar with this problem and has a solution for it?
Thanks in advance!

It's a bug in WM6.5 unfortunately. You have to go in to Windows messages to see the entire message (as opposed to HTC's sense UI)..it's annoying and i hope HTC come out with a rom update very soon as this is just one of many many bugs and annoying quirks in 6.5. Argh!

Have you successfully installed these?

Prolly because of LEO ported manila.
Oh well, thanks anyways Denco7.
I have the stock AT&T rom on my Pure and both updates worked fine.
I also have this problem, so annoying! Microsoft need to get a fix ASAP!
This post is dedicated to all who have problems with incoming SMS notification while PPC is in sleep mode.
It should be read by rom developers also to be able response on user reports.
Last time I tried new roms and found that while PDA is in sleep mode, new SMS doesn't fire sound notification often. Sound was played just after waking device up. But in sleep mode delay was unacceptable: from seconds up to hours (means never).
I reported this issue to all devs of roms I've tested. without any result. Other users reported that it works for them fine.
I did some tests and found that the reason is 'a lot of SMS' probably in conjunction to HTC Messaging. I have to be fair and use 'probably' word, because I didn't tested it on ROM versions without HTC Messaging yet (I'll do that as fast as possible)
However a few rom ago I used ROM w/o this program and noticed none of described issue.
Tests:
I did tests by sending SMS through internet SMS gateway.
PDA has been located in way, making possible to hear noise of incoming SMS from speakers
I've tested it on Roms: Energy, Grzegorz10, XanyTech.
Finally I've tested threaded and normal mode (w/o difference)
Result of tests gives the clue:
PDA responses on new SMS immediately when
- PDA is just after flashing
- after removing all SMS messages
When in inbox/set box is a lot of messages (more than 300 in my case) - the issue I just described appears.
maxym, i also have this issue with several tested rom's. this is one of the reasons that i am trying new rom's to solve this problem. i will try to empty my message box to see if this solve the problem
Just to add my own 2 cents to it, I have faced the same problem with Miri's Manila 2.5 v19 no HTC messaging.
Here are my observations
1. I upgraded to Radio 1.17 and problem disappeared but battery life was HORRIBLY. Battery life with 1.13 is fantastic for me so shifted back to 1.13.
2. With Radio 1.13, after each reset or restart, if I receive and read one message (from any other phone. I usually send a sms from wives phone to mine) then all the rest I receive till next restart, I get notification even when my phone is in standby.
I am just about to try Kwbr's Rhodium 1.3 Rom (with sense 2.1) to see if its the same case and report back (will again use my favourite 1.13 Radio)
Edit: No problems so far with Kwbrs Rhodium Rom version 1.3 while using Radio 1.13 with GREAT battery life!
I have try and almost empty my messages but seems that this did not help. again i have to power on the HD to receive the notification for a new message.
Is there any solution or any suggestion to try?
Thanks

try disable on Settings/Battery panel the "Automatically adjust backlight" or similar, i red about LookUp issoue.
if problem not solved, flash not cooked ROM, and than cooked ROM, or change Radio ROM.
I have the same Problem and just discoverd this thread.
I'm on Blackstonehenge Hyper 1.5, HTC Messaging Client is 3625.
Auto Adjust Backlight is turned off, and also changing the time until Device goes to Standbymode didnt do anything to me. I seriously hope anyone will be able to fix this.
Tested it with Radio 1.13 , 1.15, 1.17 . Before every single Flash i used Task29 to clear up the Partition.
Any other ideas?
I had the same problem with version 2014.2622
I deleted all messages - also the deleted files (!!!)
Then I uninstalled HTC Messaging and installed version 2014.3625
Since then everything works normal - now one day.
Keeping fingers crossed.
With the Xennytech 2.8B I've got the same problem
Now I'm going back to the Xennytech 2.1B and sms notification working fine.
I removed the last HTC Messaging Client, i've tried - deacitivated sense, with Taskmanager killed the "Messages" Process and installed HTC Messaging from here , it's the HTC Messaging, used in Energy's Roms - this one is working for me and i know have my Notification. Hope it helps someone.
possible solution?
hi guys,
what about installing BsB Tweaks v1.6 and enable "SMS Wake Up" under "General"?
let me know
SMS Wake Up does work, Notifications will come immediatley than, but it will always turn the Screen on
I have also the similar problem to you guys. Running blackSTONEhenge™ HyPer v1.7 and Wajks HTC Messaging. Very annoying, but I will uninstall it, as Wajk made the ROM without HTC Messaging.
Just curious: Do you all use Co0kies Home Tab? I do, but don't know wether it can be the problem too?
No its not CHT - i always try this on empty clean Roms with just the default installed applications.
You can give me some Informations:
- How did you flash? with or without Task29? USPL or HSPL?
- Which Radio do you use? Which Rilphone Version?
- Which Operator do you have? Did you try updating your Operator Settings (Startmenu->Settings->Connections->Connection Setup->Menu->Update Database
Maybe we will find the Solution, till now only a few people seem to have this error - i guess it has something to do with the relation between Operator and new HTC Messaging

Hi, I removed HTC Messaging and it partially solved the problem - i can hear SMS notification sound, but the sign indicating a new SMS received is displayed only on the upper end of the screen as an envelope and not on the Messages icon as it once did - if before uninstalling HTCmessaging the sign showed up without a sound, now its the other way around.
Do you have any solutions for that?
Thank you,

hey guys... its good to know im not along with this problem...
same symptoms as what you guys describe, sms only get notified when you bring the phone out of sleep mode...
tried several roms... cloudy 2.2... energy... and all with same issues... always hard reset after new flash.. even went and task29 between each roms to make sure...
tried radio 1.17 and 1.14.... makes no difference...
atm.. only way around it for me... leave it plugged into usb all day... at least this way when i get a sms/msg it comes through when it should...
am i the only one to NOT have this problem??? i get the notification sound when a text comes thru in sleep mode fine. been using energy roms

Yea, but it always turns your screen on while receiving a message and thats also pretty annoying. I guess it's something HTC Settings Enhancement based. I compared different HTC Messaging Clients, but there arent so many different Registry-keys in them. Also NRG'z Client ist the only HTC Messaging Client working for me.
I tried five Clients from the new 1.8 Version, i tried a different rom,i flashed with and without Task29, i tried different Radios - nothing seems to work, and nobody seems to care.
I will stay on NRG'z Messaging Client, cause im sick of flashing because of this Error.

have anyone face problem with the green LED that should blink when new email arrives? all others like missed call, SMS works ok.
HTC support did not give me any real answer.
tried some tweaks but it is still not working.
any idea?
This doesn't work on anyone's HD2, regardless of ROM afaik. Plenty of folks have contacted HTC about it, but they have yet to officially acknowledge the problem, much less try to fix it.
Only 2 workarounds I'm aware of:
-use PhoneAlarm . The developer has made a special beta version that enables the blinking light.
-use this app by Netripper that makes the keypad LEDs light up when a new email arrives.
Thanks for information since HTC claims in their reply to me that all is OK with their SW and it works, which is not true.
Yeah, I had a big row with them about it.
They just kept claiming that if I sent my HD2 back to them they could flash it and fix it. They promised that they had it working on their handset.
I didn't want to send my unit back so they won this round
same situation with me but i would probably visit Taiwan soon and creat direct contact with their HQ so let's see how they respond once it comes from the mngmnt.
Cool! Go pound on their frigging desks for me, too!
it works for me and i just changed back to stock rom?
using 1.66

You're saying that you can change the settings in Sounds and Notifications to set the LED to flash for a certain number of minutes if you receive a new email?

New email, not SMS, not voicemail . . . right?
(thinking maybe he works for HTC support, as they say theirs works just fine too...)

It surely doesnt! Send yourself an Email right now and tell me again, that your LED next to the earpiece is flashing green...
its a shame because i will be returning my device for this reason. PA didnt work at all netrippers program works somewhat but the email has to be read in order cor the keypad fo stop blinking and thebother provram worms great 70% of the time but has too many bugs. that plus the slow loadingg music player is just too much i love winmo but i have learned to live with Android
checked it in the HQ during my visit there in Taiwan and they just told me that it works but when i asked to approach the support and show them it doesn't so they would fix it in my phone they just ignored and refused to meet me with 1 million excuses why not....
so the green led won't work for emails notification in my phone and with such working method in the HQ of HTC, i think that the Leo is my last HTC phone. :-(
Without a doubt they knew of this problem before the release. Even using android I'm still stuck supporting HTC. r

PhoneAlarm works perfect on my HD2. You just have to install version 2.32 build 405 (final). Version 2.40 didn't work on mine either.
That version worked for me as well but at least 2 out of 50 email faied to notify..
This was definitely my top gripe for a long time. Penguin over at PhoneAlarm wrote the modifications to fire the green LED when a new mail comes in. Since then, some of the clever folks over here at XDA have written their own apps to make this work.
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636439&page=14 This makes your keypad buttons blink when a new email arrives. Pretty clever, and works great.
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647875 (haven't tried this myself)
I do not like that all the kepad will look like X-MAS tree so i won't install the workaround app.
I gave up this issue and last week switched to Motorola Milestone....
You should try this Android and you would understand how far behind is the Leo
