a (stupid?) microSDHC question - HD2 General

I would like to know if I can use a "regular" microSD adapter with a microSDHC card.
I searched the newt for an answer, but there were several contradicting answers.
To the best of my knowledge, the adapter is no more than wiring -
Or - Am I wrong ?

Yes you can use microSD adapter with microSDHC
infact i'm using mine now and no problems at all

Great.
Thanks.
I thought so too, but since I had some problems with data transfer (you can see the thread I described it in) I just thought Id verify with someone else, just to be on the safe side.
Thanks again.

miniSD limit?

I would know if actualy the wizard has a limit capacity supporting cards. I want to buy a 2Gb miniSD, will it work?
Assuming you don't buy a defective card, it should work. I use a 2GB Sandisk in my Wizard with no problems.
please search first before starting new threads.
but: YES you can use 2GB mini sd

8GB card in Prophet?

Anybody tried the new 8GB SD card in Prophet? I am tempted of buying one, but there is no way for me to test it beforehand.

It's not possible to use a 8GB SD becuase it use the HC (hight capacity) standard. The prophet card reader support only "normal" sd cards and not HC ones.
bye

Not really. For example Samsung 8 GB SD claims to be both SD 1.1 and SD 2.0 compatible.

Never find an information like this...i've always read that 8 Gb sd and above is compliant only with Sd2.0 (SDHC).

This is why I am asking if anybody have actually used 8GB card in prophet, and not theories on why it shouldn't work. Treo users apparently were able to use SDHC cards just by updating driver.
For what it's worth, I've read that some HC cards will work in older SD readers, but that no more than 4GB will be accessible. I've also read that a driver update might be able to solve the problem.
I'm sure many will be ready to try it when a solution surfaces. Do any of the HTC units read the HC cards?
FYI, I was in contact with the Microsoft WM dev group that wrote the SD card code. They had yet to start writing code to support SDHC... I believe that was back in June/July.
My guess is that they might get it in to support WM6 devices. But for us, I think it's a lost cause. Oh well, save your money and wait for the dust to settle.
SDHC is such a fubar'ed standard anyways. 32 GB max??? We'll hit that in 3 years. Then another new standard? Gawd, what a waste.

4GB Mini SD

Is there anybody using 4Gb cards in the trinity?
Can it be an SDHC? Or is there already 4GB non SDHC mini SDs?
Memory speed & specs
are there special requirements in terms of tranfer speed ?
could a 133x mini SD 4 Gb ( Samsung nand flash ) works correctly in our trinity ( to be used as storage for gps Maps , MP3 and pictures ) ?
I don't care about video streaming or other video performances..
Please let us know wich kind of memory are used in your devices.....
Thanks for any reply

So far SDHC doesn't work, hopefully a new ROM will fix that. People have reported that a standard 4gb miniSD will work when it is formatted to FAT32. I'll let you know in a few days when mine arrives...
I am using a standard 4Gb card from mobimemory.com
Formatted Fat32.
Works fine!

I am also using same card from the same company with no obvious problems. I also bought a USB mini SD card reader from them as a bundle and interestingly its the only way that I can reliably read and write to the 4Gb card with a PC. To be more specific I found using a mini SD to SD adaptor with a standard SD card reader didn't work (probably old card reader, or possibly because SD spec is maxed out at 2Gb).
I use the 4 GB MiniSD from Topram
Works fine for already 2 weeks. If I have any problems, I shall report them.

Yes, I've just tested the TopRam miniSD too, its working like a charm. I guess when I update my ROM, I'll be able to use the SDHC 4gb that I already bought. I'll have to say that all performance being equal, the normal flash card might be better since it will work in most card readers. SDHC card readers are hard to find.
Just wondering does the Transcend 4gb sdhc card now work after the dopod gps test rom update.
What's the difference between a 4GB SD and a 4GB SDHC? Which should I get (considering that the Trinity will read SDHC after the update)?

I hope that you bought a card reader that is compatible with SDHC also, otherwise the only way you will be able to read that card is with it in your phone. I must have 4 card readers and a laptop with one built-in, none of them will read SDHC format.
So, does SDHC 4gb MiniSD works with new rom? Anyone?

Already answered in this very same thread!
Sandisk 4gb SDHC
Has anyone tried the sandisk card? Should I get the transcend card or wait for the sandisk? I am running the dopod test rom.
Thanks,

So far I've only heard one person say that they have the SDHC card working on their device running the test ROM. If you really want to know, you'd better wait a week or so, or just order the normal 4gb mini SD which would be compatible with most card readers.
SDHC from Transcend works fine
I just received a 4 GB mini SDHC, and tested it. It works...
Hi,
can you tell me the advantages between a
normal MiniSD-Card and the SDHC Version of it ?
Mfg Ulti and THX !

I think the advantage is that SDHC format allows for a much larger capacity in the future. SDHC also supports a very fast transfer rate, but I don't think these devices can utilise it...
I don't think you gain anything with SDHC for a phone, maybe the transfer rate could be useful in a camera or an SDHC compatible card reader.

4gb SHDC microSD card does NOT work!

I just got a SanDisk 4gb SDHC microSD card, and I can confirm that it does NOT work in my TyTN. The TyTN does not "see" the card in Settings->Memory when the card is inserted.
Unless someone has a reg hack that will make this work, I can now confirm that the 4gb SHDC microSD cards do NOT work with the TyTN.

Have you tried formatting it first with fat32?
It's been known for a long time that the 4GB SDHC cards wouldn't work...
You should be able to sell it on and get a 2GB with the cash you make though easily enough.
I tried one too and found the same thing.. wasn't my card so I didn't mess with it.. but it didn't look like it was ever gonna see it.

It has NOT been known that it doesnt work, we actually needed someone to check with a SDHC........now all i can say is that it is most likely a limitation of WM, atleast that was the impression i got from the guys at HTC.
A bit more experimentation is needed.

Yes, it has been known... the SDHC standard is different from the SD...
The SDHC is not compatible with SD unless the device is specifically designed for it... So legacy devices cannot read it...
ffs......if you read through the threads in here you will notice that there is no ACTUAL proof that the Hermes doesnt support SDHC.........HTC have also stated that it is a limit in the OS and NOT the hardware.
We all know SDHC is different from standard SD, but that is not my point, the post i was replying to said we have known for ages.......which is not correct, we still dont know if a reg-hack will allow the memory limit to be lifted from WM5/6.

I got a 2 year old digital camera. 3 months ago, a new firmware came out for it to add SDHC support.
I doubt my camera was DESIGNED for it from the start.

Oh, sorry I misunderstood your point... ur right... but it's for sure that the current devices, without any modification will not support SDHC...or is there any example on the contrary?
I noticed that a registry key does exist under HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/SDHC/
maybe someone can find a tweak to make the card work...

It is also known that the SDHC in the reg does NOT stand for SD HC cards.

I ACTUALLY tried it. (as stated in the post you replied too - though you may have clicked before I edited that in and posted after.. the timing is close.. if so sorry about that )
Hmmm wondering if this is solved in WM6..
Would be very usefull if I can have at least 4 GB.

am using one now.. . .
I flashed WM 6 (vp3G's version 3.0) and my 4GB SDHC works just great.
Yeah, lots of the cooked WM6 ROMs include SDHC support. It was indeed only ever a coding issue that wasn't included in native OS. Well done the chefs.
Search the WM6 forum with the term sdhc and support and you'll be able to compile a list of cooked ROMs that do it. Most recent ones do though as far as I'm aware. Pre-cooked, that is - not sure about the DIY ROM kitchens.
If it helps, Black Satin is very recent indeed and has it. I heartily recommend Medium edition. (Was on LE but installed sev of the removed packs anyway). Also Faria's is a personal favourite of mine (SuperClean).

Maximum MicroSD Card

I'm tempted to purchase a 16gb Micro SDHC Card -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/16GB-SANDISK-...286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:15|39:1|240:1318
Does the HD support this though?
You could buy a 32GB card if you found one, and it would still work.
Yeah, MicroSDHC are supported in all capacities.
If youd bother to use the search a bit, you would see that they do work.

**EDIT** Silly me, I'm in the wrong forum... that's my problem. Thanks for help.
