Last night I have succesfully rooted then updated my Hero to Android 2.1. r1.8. As it was my first attempt to hack Hero, i'm knew to all this adb stuff.
I cannot send nor receive MMS and under Message aplication settings - connection settings I have greyed some mms.emome.net APN... i tried to search via adb shell grep... but didn't found anything. Browsing through shell I have found though mccmnc.xml file where there was emome.net net mentioned, remove it, but under message settings there is still that APN...
Anyone know where is that conf file for that?
Later...
I found those two files and deleted them....
/data/data/com.android.mms/shared_prefs/_has_set_default_values.xml
/data/data/com.android.mms/shared_prefs/com.android.mms_preferences.xml
android created two new one with no values but messages settings are still intact, then I have changed _has_set_default_values.xml to false and now I have the same files as in the begining..
Now, I'm running grep on all the system... whatever comes first...
Thanks.

...ok.
I just got a TyTN. On my HTC Universal, there was a MMS console or something...forget what they call it...
But it was flawless and there isn't one on the TyTN from what I can see...
Can someone help me out? It MIGHT be my general non-familiarity of the device so I don't see it...but I don't see any programs or settings that even come close to referencing it...
Thanks...

Select MMS
You have to install the Shortcut-MMS.cab from ExtendedROM.
I for one, didn't install it, cause the whole messanging application (SMS and E-Mail) starts much faster without MMS installed.
At the moment I'm searching for a proper replacement for MMS that's not that lazy.
Missing MMS Menu on HTC TyTn
Hi,
I have the same problem on my HTC TyTn. In fact, MMS menu is missing. I've read the answer but I don't know where I could find shortcut-mms.cab.
Could you help me, please.
Jee
unhide the extendedrom as described in the extrom unlocker thread. then you should find a file *shortcut*mms*.cab in the dir /ExtendedROM
Hi,
Thanx for answering. I've tried what it explained, but nothing happen. My phone coming from SFR (vodaphone). Maybe there is something else to do.
Regards
ROM Version 1.23.163.3
ROM Date: 06/18/06
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocole: 32.53.7018.01W
Me, too, and I think I've got it figured out..
I have most of this problem solved but need one additional piece of info (at bottom); maybe someone can fill that in for me.
I got a new 8525 from Cingular.com the day they came out. The letter 'A' stuck so I had to exchange it for a new one. The first 8525 I had showed the MMS directory just fine but the second one they gave me did not. I'm not aware of any differences in the way I set them up or how this could be, but MMS has been missing from my second 8525 since I first fired it up. Cingular support was no help.
Here's what you need to do to fix it:
(1) You need to unhide the Extended ROM. Info on doing that can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283750
Note that in my situation my phone was already SIM unlocked, and I found that I did not have to CID unlock my device in order to fix this problem. Information on what the difference is between SIM unlock and CID unlock can be found here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SimUnlock
(2) Now, when you open File Explorer, you'll see a new folder listed called "Extended ROM." Open that folder and you'll see a list of .cab files that can install various things for you.
Run the MMS installation .cab file called "MT_Shortcut-MMS-Hermes" to install the MMS function that somehow got missed in the initial setup. I found that I was not able to install this program to Extended ROM, and I did not try to install it to the storage card, but it installed in my Device memory just fine.
Open up Messaging, and you should now see the MMS folder, unless you soft reset, in which case you have to re-install. In my case, no configuration of the MMS function was needed, and MMS works just fine.
QUESTION: Whenever I soft reset my phone, I lose the MMS function again and have to re-install from the .cab. How do I make MMS a permanent feature of my phone?
I hope this helps folks get at least as far as I've managed and maybe someone else can help finish answering this problem. Thanks in advance.
OK...
Let's say a stupid asshole erased his ext-ROM and is now missing the whole Shortcut-MMS.cab .
Is it possible to flash back only the ext-ROM ?
Can someone send the .cab to the asshole (meaning ME!) ??
Thanks
Replying to myself :
contents of known extended roms are here :

Ok found ICSinstall.cab on here and installed it, soft reset, and attempted to install the latest version of the WMWifiRouter program (which I finally succeeded in sourcing!).
However I get a message telling me cryptically that it 'cannot be installed' after attempting install. I wonder if this is related to ICS...
I now have the InShrUI.exe file in /windows/ *but* attempting to run it gives:
'The file 'IntShrUI' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.'
I reinstalled it over itself (i.e. ran the cab again) same error.
:-/
Was this the right file? I seem to remember it was dated 11th January 2008??
Thanks again for hte help folks!
I should say I'm running Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0 (OS5.1.195 (build 14955.2.3.0).
Lastly I should say I've started a new topic as the last one was getting a bit off topic my original concern having been answered :-D (thanks guys!)
probably you only opened a shortcut (*.ink) and the shortcut pointed to a not existing file. Another thing is that it also was intsalled correctly (the *.exe), but the dll's or whatever are not installed.
Regards
Thanks. I'll try redownloading and repeating.
I was wondering if the file needed signed with some unique private key or something?
Anyways will give it a shot and report back

Thanks for your suggestion I'm now a tiny bit further on.
On soft resetting the PPC I get the following error:
'Pocket PC Networking
Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings.'
InShrUI is still giving the same error as before (and it's definately the .exe file I'm clicking).
However the improvement is: This time WMWifiRouter succeeded in installing...
However the same PPC networking error occurred during the install. I could probably tweak whatever is causing that error to use a static IP address rather than DHCP probably...but it's kind of dodging the problem.
And as said before I can't launch IntShrUI without getting that error. This time there is a shortcut to it though in program files.
I should also say that neither the executable or the shortcut has an Icon Image (i.e. it's the default no icon blank) so I suppose it might be the .exe file that's corrupt (since the shortcut get's it's icon from there I think?).
Last but not least:
WMWifiRouter reads:
Code:
'Not Connected'
Waiting for connection
I suspect the problem must lie with InShrUI but then again I'm a noob so I'll wait for the XDA gods to come and share their wisdom!

Is there no1 who can answer this? Anyone got any ideas?
Device is a hermes (T-mobile Vario-II) running WM5.....
There's one MAN point up for grabs for whoever can solve it!
I tried installing WMWifiRouter 0.89 onto a ROM which didn't have ICS included (which meant I had to try the same route you did) onto my Vario 2... I just couldn't get it to work, and I spent a while trying to make it work too.
I'm figuring that there's some deep-seated DLL or system association which ICS needs, which isn't configured if ICS is stripped out of the ROM - I ended up just reflashing with another ROM (the T-Mobile WM6.0 official ROM) and ICS and WMWifiRouter works fine.
Sorry that's not a solution, but it's the only way I could get it to work. Not an expert ROM cooker, so my knowledge of how ICS is stripped / included in ROMs is fairly limited, though I understand the concepts and techniques.
Thanks for your help Christopher.
I considered flashing a working ROM. My worry is about losing all the programs I have installed on the device (it took a long time to get it *this* customised ;-) ) is there any way to flash the new ROM while keeping the old registry entries etc. for registering my programs (Especially those I've bought such as Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine - which I cannot register anymore)? ...
Or could I somehow back up the registry and restore it later (I know that's likely to be a dangerous idea...perhaps simply the file associations and programs stuff -the windows mobile section?)
Thanks bro!

Bumping as no replies for ages
Anyone?
Bumping again as no replies for a week or so
Bumping again to ask if anyone knows a way of slving this without having to reinstall all my programs, re register them, and reconfigure everything? (which I suspect installing a different ROM will do?) is it possible to back up the registry entries for all of my programs then do the ROM upgrade and restore the registry entries from my other programsMost of my programs are installed on the microSD card anyway (i didn't want to use up the main memory and slow the device up).??
If so how?
Thanks again folks !
I have the same problem...
I cant seem to find the answer but will continue to try.
if your programs are installed on your memory card then chances are you should be able to past shortcuts into the programs directory after reflashing. I tend to do this BUT I have found some programs that need to be re-installed or re-registered. Backing up registries can cause SERIOUS problems in itself so I would 1st do a full backup of your system (try spb backup, it backs up EVERYTHING on the phone then re-installs the lot so it seems like you never had a problem..) then flash. Try putting on shortcuts and if you have no luck you have the choice to start again on the new os or reflash to old and then restore backup (old problems wil still be there). Hope this helps.
Ps. I use resco explorer instead of the crap file explorer on the phone. It allows MUCH more versatility to do as I want. Cheers....
i just bought a htc Magic. I do not have a date plan!
How do i block all the applications that use the interent so i don't get charged for using data?
But
When i am in a wifi area i want to be able to use the applications like internet because it will be free because it is WIFI.
I have bin trying to research the htc magic... Not sure exactly what rooting is but i am interested in loading a custom driver or something along those lines. i want to be able to install apps on my memory card and remove stock apps that come with my "Rogers provider" and apps like "market"
Can anyone help me?
My HTC info
Model Number: HTC Magic
Build number: 3.05.631.7 CL#118917
kERNEL vERSION: 2.6.27-5b47e83
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06KU_6.35.10.18
Firmware version: 1.5
Board version: 32A
thanks

The simple solution is to rename your default APN to something else.
For example:from default to default_off.
You can find this settings under settings->Wireles&Networks->Mobile Networks.
Or download application like "Apn switch" from market that wil do the same
Joze
there is no Wireles&Networks in the setting option there is Wireless controls.
Can some one help me? i want to restrict my apps on my HTC magic from using data from rogers. But if i am in wifi i don't care if they get information from that(like weather market etc.).
Also how do i delete stock apps that came on my HTC because i go into my all program and there is crappy rogers apps and some crappy HTC apps i can't delete
( i have bin getting texts fROM rogers saying that i am trying to use data)
please can some one help me. If i need a custom rom i will do that if necessary.( i like that stock rom that came with my HTC tho)
Well, have you looked in there for mobile networks and APNs or Access point names?
I have Android 2.1 installed and so I have diferent settings menu.
ok i found something that says APN i typed in default_off and saved it. ( before it said something with rogers name in it)
So now my phone woun'r try and use data?
Actualy you should have changed APN type not APN name from default to something else.
Sorry I was not clear anough.
Yes changing the name does nothing, you will need to either delete the APN settings called Rogers or Rogers MMS and/or blank all the settings in the Rogers APN.
Custom ROM's are not always needed to install apps from the sdcard. Just install Astro File Manager from the Market (free) then go to the root of your sdcard and click on the app/apk you have on your sdcard and allow it to install.
Also do not delete the Market that it used to get the apps you want using wifi unless you are downloading the apk and putting them on your sdcard to install.
You need to edit the APN and change the APN address that says something like "rogers-core-appl1.apn" to something else. Problem is, I'm pretty sure this will get repopulated on reboot.
Why not just call Rogers and have them block ALL mobile data on your account, then you have no worries.
waaaaaait a minute.
correct me if im wrong but isnt this a simple way of doing this:
settings --> wireless controls --> uncheck mobile network
for me (running official rogers 1.5 rom with sense UI update), this turns off all data services and maintains voice functionality.
when i turn on wifi and connect to a wifi network, my data services are good to know as they automatically use the wifi connection.
shouldnt this do the trick? or do not all ROMs have the setting above that i mentioned?
i wasn't able to go into Access Point names and delete Rogers but i went in and changed APN and APN address and changed it to default_off. But then i changed MMSC: "i'm not able to show you the adress" to blank. After i did that it let me delete the hole access point thanks everyone i think its going to work now haven't bin getting any e-mails from rogers.
Yea ill try asking them to block ALL mobile data to my account. But not sure if they will because they normally don't sell smart phones without a data plan.
Yea i all ready downloaded and installed astro file manager. Ill just load up apps from the pc because i think market uses mobile data because when i go to use it it says "Background data disabled"... And I'm not sure if i should enable it.
thanks everyone think it's all good now
"background data" what dose that mean? dose it mean mobile data usage or dose it just mean programs running in the background
Apps running in the background is what android does anyway. "Background data" is exactly what it says "data" that happens in the "background"(IE: when you exit the app). "Data" being information that transfers over the mobile data network.
Edit: On my MT3G on T-Mobile, changing the APN so that it's invalid (example, my APN is epc.tmobile.com I simply took out the periods) disables the data connection. It was not corrected by a reboot. However, I'm on Cyanogenmod 5.0.7 test5, not a default rom.
I'm a little confused. should i enable "background data"?
But keep in mined i don't want to use mobile data.. i only use wifi
......... bump...
So I just installed cyanogen's new 2.1 rom which is running better then the 1.6 I had I follwed the wiki on how to upgrade but the Google apps. Still aren't installing the way I did it was
1 installed the defanged file followed by gapps file on the wiki then the actual. 2.1 is there something I'm missing
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
I dont think u need the defanged base...
boot into recovery mode and wipe
flash this update-cm-5.0.7-DS-signed(2)
then this gapps-ds-ERE36B-signed
reboot
Well, do you have 32a? for me when i use the 5.0.7 stuff i would lose my ram. I was wondering the same thing because i am stuck at 4.7.x with the defanged not really knowing how to get to 5.0.7
Installed 5.0.7.DS and now now SMS pictures
Hi, I installed the Cyanogen 5 stable ROM and now I'm not able to view picture or Images when I receive SMS. Is there a setting to this, because I've search everywhere and can find anything remotely to enable such setting if there is.
Thanks.
First off sorry about posting in the wrong section
I have the 32b magic and for the people having my issue I had to use the defanged file because if I just used the 5.0.7 and the Google apps. File my phone would not pass the mytouch screen I waited for an hour and had no luck so this is what I did and worked like a charm
BTW I'm running this with the old radio and spl with no issues as of now
Did a nandroid backup
Wiped my phone back to factory setting
Installed the defanged file
Followed by cyanogen 5.0.7
And last the Google apps. File. Cyanogen provided
The first boot took about five minutes and is now working like a charm the only app I didn't get was the Amazon mp3 store and I can't find a site with the direct link to the apk. File to install through my phone since I don't have a computer right now

I'm not having any issues who is your provider?? Also what is happening are you getting the messsage just no pic or nothing at all??
I have TMO and never had the problem with the stock ROM.
When selecting on a SMS with an Image included it displays a message: "The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction."
First off I think you mean mms that's what picture and video messages are SMS are texts goto. Your settings then wireless / network. Then mobile network then apn it should have Tmobile checked goto the mmsc and make sure this is there http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
Then try again that should do it

Yes, you are right, it's MMS.
Anyhow, I tried the URL you posted; it's broken. I'll try going to TMO support site.
Thanks for you time.
Hi guys,
I'm trying to provision a HTC Touch 2 with RAPI. After I run this:
Code:
rapiconfig /p config.xml
I get this:
Code:
Config failed (0x80042008): A fatal transaction failure has occurred. The device may be in an unknown state.
I'm clueless in what I can do to fix this, since the .xml holds the security policy settings for the device...
Ultimately, I need to install a few cabs through a script, with no UI during install. Which i'm running with rapistart by the way.
Some help would be greatly appreciated!
I don't know about this Rapi Neo, but you can use Dotfred's Taskmanager to import a xml.
Edit; no UI ok, so no way you can install Dotfred LoL, sorry.
Thanks Laurentius, I'll still have a look at that.
I'll explain my scenario a bit more.
I have to run a script which installs a few cabs (so no cab security etc) and then modify the start menu, so users are only able to run forementioned apps and a few standard things like contacts, sms, that sort of thing. Settings should be blocked or removed, so they won't be able to change any settings made before running the script.
The first problem arises with getting rid of the security. RAPIconfig usually was able to send a provisioning xml to the device (on wm6.1) and change the security policy keys in the registry. This time, i'm running it on a wm6.5 device. So i'm doing something wrong there.
And last but not least: I used to be able to run CeRun.exe in the script on wm6.1 (does almost the same as RAPIstart.exe, but is able to do multiple cab installs at the same time, without showing the installation on the device) and i'm wondering why it doesn't work in 6.5 anymore.
I guess no one ever used RAPI tools?
