Quick Fix in Eclipse not showing suggestions - Android Software Development

Hi all,
I'm VERY new to Android Development and I'm finally at the point where I'm starting to write my first VERY basic app.
I've done a bunch of reading and watched a bunch of tutorials to get to this point.
I'm one of the tutorials I'm watching they show how the 'Quick Fix' in Eclipse can help with things such as suggesting which imports to use and and option to import them.
For instance I'm defining a Button that I put on my main layout and I haven't imported anything... now I know I have to add the button class, but can't figure out how to get the quick fix working so that it shows suggestions.
Right now if I click on the line and hit CTRL+1 (or select it fromt he Edit menu) it just gives 'No suggestions available'.
I've done some searching and haven't found anything to help with this yet.
Thanks for any information!
**** UPdate ****
Ugg, total newbie error.
I was trying to define them outside of the public class, so of course it didn't know what the H*LL I wanted to do. :0
Moved them inside and it pops right up now..

I need some help with c# and visual studio 2005. Specifically writing to text files

Im just making my first program, and throwing myself in teh deep end, with no experience whatsoever. But its great fun [when not frustrating]
Im using c# and VS2005 professional edition, and ive basically created my user interface, with 3 numericupdown boxes, i want to out put those values into a text file for another file to read.
All methods from the internet havent worked, and give random errors, possibly because of my lack of experience, and i have no idea where to put them, but i think ive been doing it right. And i have searched here aswell, but it seems that its more where people post programs rather then beign about development.
If you can help, but need more information please pm me, its just that id rather not share the whole infomation with everyone [not that i dont trust you]
Thanks to you all
Rory
File management is in System.IO. In there, you have the File class.
There are a bunch of HowTo's there. One of them explains how to write to a file.
What errors are you seeing?
thanks so much..
Finally solved my problem, and my msdn library doesnt have that in it.. hmm
Might be back soon with more problems
lol
Thanks
Rory

[Prg] Anti Creeper *** Anti-Spy Suite

This project will start being developed over the next few weeks in response to the various fears and worries that have come out over Phone Creeper.
I did promise to do my part in alleviating worries.
All source code will be provided with this program so people see how it works, how it will help and disseminate mistrust.
Anyone who is wishing to help in creation is more than welcome and any ideas on new techniques of stopping invasive programs are also welcome.
The first steps of this program will be to search for the following symptoms:
* SMS Interception: By searching for messages that arrive on the the phone, yet never make it to the inbox.
* Bounce Detection of SMS: by searching for quick duplication of incoming and outgoing message parts.
* Bounce Detection of calls: by searching for outgoing calls placed to a phone number was very recently listed inside an SMS transmission.
* Hidden Startup: search for startup entries with the "hidden" attribute enabled.
* Auto Boot apps: search for auto-install storage cards such as " \storage folder\2577"
AppToDate will be used receiving application updates as time goes on.
It will probably be at least a week or two before any code goes up, as I need a little rest from programming for a little while before I get too manic.

hehe great idea....
this would be the wm equivalent of anti spyware? lol.
Support the idea.
Hope to see something soon...!
Already thanks to chetstriker!

Thanks for the interest, it hasn't seemed like many people have been as into the "anti" part.
I should hopefully have the first version up by this weekend or next week latest.
i can help if using C# and CF
if possible, create a project on codeplex and let's all contribute to this. who knows? we might make the next AntiVirus/AntySpyware

Many are just quietly lurking here, waiting for first version
Just an update..
It's taken a little longer to get started than I wanted.
I'm trying to keep my code as clean as possible also since it will be public and others hopefully will want to contribute.
I have created a codeplex project but it won't be active until the first code is published. I was hoping to have it up this weekend but I decided to have a life and hang out with friends instead.
I have a good amount of ground work finished, including the detection of hidden files in unusual places and autostart detection. I also have encryption (hashing, salting) functions finished to securely encrypt your settings from tampering.
Now i'm just going to finish off SMS monitoring and give it a (hopefully somewhat attractive) UI.
Just letting people who are curious know that i'm still working on it and will be available shortly.
Great Idea

But will it allow for lost and found type apps to work?

Yes, it will notify the user of what's happening and allow them to stop, delete or "add exception". There are many useful pograms that take advantage of methods that can be used ill intended purposes.
Subscribing to this thread.
Wouldn't making the source public kind of defeat the whole "anti" idea? Anyone could just work around your measures.
Subscribing to this! Very intriguing!
let me lend you a free BUMP
Still pretty excited about this.
Looking forward for the anti and the code.
Well, I just got back from vacation. So let the programming begin again
Hopefully, i'll have the update people have been waiting for shortly.

Custom programs in bottom curtain

I have searched this entire site for a couple of days now and have yet to find what I'm looking for so I appologize if there is another thread out there like this one. I'd like to thank you guys first of all for all of the tweaks and hacks. I have had my hd2 for just over two weeks now and I was about to give it back but after I added all these hacks and tweaks and saw just what this phone was capable of, I'm definitely gonna hold onto it a while. During all of my searching I've learned a bit more about hacking the registry. The hd2 comes with a certain number of icons in the bottom curtain that slide back and forth. Well I don't use twitter, but love facebook. I have been trying to get facebook in the options to add it to the slider menu in the bottom curtain. Some of the registry files are located in hklm\software\htc\manila. I would appreciate any advice on how to edit the registry to achieve this. thanks in advance.

I apologizefor the goof up. I found what I was looking for. I've been trying to delete this thread, but don't see any way to do so

Nah, dont delete it, others are asking themselves the same question.
You could post your solution though, that's what this place is for

Change order of menu items

Is there a way to re-order menu items on the HD2 ?
An example of this is in the email application. When I go into my Inbox, I see that I have 3 new (unread) emails. Scanning the list shows me that I don't need to read these now, but would like to mark them as read to reset the unread email counter. I will press the 'menu' button, but in order to get to the 'Mark All as Read' option, I always have to scroll this list to the bottom. I would like it if I could move the 'Mark All as Read' option to the top of that list.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible ? I'm hoping that with the massive amount of talent roaming around these boards, someone might be able to help !
Thanks in advance.
Things move off the front screen so quickly these days that it's sometimes difficult to get an answer first time around. I'm *bumping* this to see if anyone can help me. With all that mass of knowledge and talent on this board, I'm sure that someone must know if this is possible !
Again, thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Actually, you can't do this because it's related to WM base files. Maybe you can change the orders via resource hacking and changing order of menus on it's related files in WM files. (such as ****.MUI or ****.DLL files)

[Q] Finding right place to mod an app

I hope this is the right place to post a question about modifying an existing app. In the long run, I want to create a Xposed module to do the modification, but to get started I work with modding the decompiled app. The app in question is de.zeit.diezeit.epaper.android, which is a German newspaper reader app (I am not expecting anyone to know it). What I want to do is to get rid of the scrolling animation when reading an article, because I am using this app on an eInk device (Icarus Illumina).
Now my problem is, I don't find a starting point. I have to say I don't have much (read: almost none) experience with writing Android apps (although I have a lot of programming experience otherwise). Thus I have no idea how such an animation would be implemented. I searched for references to the Scroller class and replaced the duration argument of the startScrolling method by 5ms, but this didn't change anything.
Is there any way to run the app in some kind of debug mode to see which methods are called at which time? Another idea how to find the right spot might be the trigger of the scroll: I am using the hardware page turn buttons of the device to scroll down exactly one page. How would this be implemented, what should I search for to find the code that reacts on these buttons? (Also: how can I press these buttons in the emulator?)
I am sorry if I am asking too many noob questions. If there is relevant documentation I have obviously missed, please point me to it. Thank you very much for any help!

Hi, very late after the question, but I am considering buying an Illumina XL HD e-reader in order to have e-ink to read newspapers. What has been your experience with your device (which model in particular is it?)? Also, I would like to root it. Do you know if that is possible? Finally, did you manage to modify the app? If so, was it difficult?
Hi, hope you found the solution
