Leo Playlist Problem - HD2 General

Right, basically I got my leo 2 weeks ago, its a UK one on Vodafone. Because I have a mac I brought Missing Sync for Windows Mobile in order to sync it. It was great because it let me sync everything fine, even my itunes playlists. After the first time I Synced it I went onto the HTC sense music tab, onto the playlists part of it and my playlists were there but they were empty
I then went on windows media player, updated the library and my playlists showed up, had all the right tracks in them and played fine, i checked the Sense music player and the playlists were still empty.
The .asx files are on the phone here:
Storage Card/My Documets/My Music/Missing Sync
and this is what it looks like inside the missing sync folder (attached .jpg)
I was wondering if maybe the problem is where the .asx files are, but I am probably completely wrong.
So if any of you can help me I will be very grateful, thanks.

As you are aware, you've posted the same issue twice.

Please don't do that - it creates problems when users try to search.
Thanks

yeah i know, i tried to find it this morning but it had gone, I thought an admin might have deleted it for some reason, sorry

No worries. If you go to your details page (here), go to the statistics tab and there's a link there to "Find all posts by Halduck".
That should help if you lose something in future

cool thanks

can anyone out there help me with me with my problem??

no one got any idea?

still no-one with any ideas?

I've found that the HTC Sense player won't read asx files properly unless the tags in them are CAPITALISED - another thing to check is the path in the asx file - does it match up to the location of your tracks?
this example works on my HD2:
I have put my asx file in the directory: \Storage Card\Playlists
<ASX>
<ENTRY><REF HREF="\Storage Card\Music\McFly\Motion In The Ocean\10 - McFly - Walk In The Sun.mp3" /></ENTRY>
</ASX>
Don't judge my taste in music ;-)

you are not allowed to copy music from pc to your sd card, but you have to put your sd card into the hd2, connect it to the pc and after that copy your music on it
The audiomanager does have issues with some tracks. Why im not sure yet. My blackstone with manila 2.5 also had an issue, but it didnt crash it, it just wouldnt advance through the tracks and slowed the player to a complete crawl. Im guessing its the way they were encoded or something wrong with the tagging that the manila player doesnt like.
I re-encoded the tracks and let the phone create its own album art, that seemed to work ok.

first it seemed so.. but it crashed again :S but now i know that it's the fault of some mp3 files... i copied only 30 of 56 albums and its working fine... so i have to copy 10 by 10 to see which mp3 file is causing it... sry for the wrong info.
I just noticed that if you press the update album art button in top right corner it starts working again and plays 10 or 15 seconds more of the track and then crashes

I used MP3val to fix my collection, googled it after someone mentioned it as a possible solution. Did the trick for me, it's working now.
Complete steps in my case:
- format SD from HD2
- sync albums from WMPlayer by ActiveSync for correct folderstructure
- ran MP3val on Music folder on SD, fixed errors
Hope it helps!

Yep your right! Iv had to resort to putting the device in drive mode when plugged into pc and do a soft reset after each album, but the album art and songs are sure worth it

Will give it a go if I come across the issue after this method
Hi --
I seem to have the same issue. Audio Manager crashes on certain songs/albums and restarts Sense automatically. Soft reset doesn't change this. I have also edited all tags to make sure there are no comments/genres etc using mp3tag. Still music player will crash on the same song/album. WM plays just fine. Has anyone played with registry settings to fix this bug in HTC audio manager?
HD 2 Audio Manager and HTC messaging
I was so happy to have been able to purchase this device while on a recent trip to Hong Kong. To my surprise, I was unable to create text messages. I could see the incoming texts but when I hit the reply icon, the screen went "black". I could turn on the keyboard, but could not see anything in the black space above.
At the same time, there was a problem with the HTC music function. With the exception of the two sample songs, nothing else would play. The Windows Media Player worked but was a far cry from what I thought I was getting via HTC Sense technology.
I then erased the audio manager and to my surprise, the HTC Messaging worked flawlessly. When I reinstalled the audiomanager, the problem returned to the HTC Messaging.
Can you help sort this out?
Thanks for anything you can provide.
audiomanager or sms
Got the same problem here... I Installed the audiomanager (it does fix the audiomanager problem)...but I can't send sms cause the screen went black blank....
I tried remove the audiomanager application...and the sms function back to normal...but at the same time...the music player come with audiomanager problem again...
It's like we can only choose one of them...normal sms or fixed audiomanager.(it's really pissed me off)
please help me...

My situation:
-music player from Manila 2.5 worked for several month and suddenly came to the same problem as we talking about here.
-Downloaded mp3val and scanned .mp3 in my storage card, then fixed them.
-After that, everything works fine like before.
Well I ca't believe that after all this time it's fixed. I suffered this problem with my diamond and thought that it would be resolved in the hd2, only to find after loading alll my music the problem was back, I assumed it was one of the albums that was drm causing it so removed it and deleted the .vol. Problem was still there then I removed all wma and aac files still there and then I found this post scanned and fixed with mp3val and all is well.

Well, I think I can, it's called - here it comes - a bug.
You may feel better knowing you are not the only one. I haven't yet reported it to HTC, so I think we all should and give them an incentive to put their teeth in it and fix this, because it really is VERY annoying.
For now, I'm reverting back to Pocketmusic, but I really want the AudioManager to work - it'll work with my car stereo over A2DP and it'll work with the buttons on the headset (for which I will replace the earpieces to decent ones...)
Oops, they did it again.
I have this problem with my HD all of a sudden, and have been searching quite a lot for a solution. What seems to work for people is reformatting the card. At least on HD I tried to install a different card with the same files and it worked.
Thanks! Thing is, I'm sure it's to do with the amount of music. I wanted to get a 32Gb SDHC card when they are available but I'm not sure it could handle it.
I do have a plan now though, since you mentioned the format thing. I formatted the card in windows. The HD 2 has a card formatting util, maybe it's related?? I'll try and I'll let you know. Also maybe the sub-folders go to deep ie /card/music/muse/resistance
Maybe if I make them shallower? I dunno...
So I'll try a few things and report back!
Re amount of music - at least it's not the case with HD. I moved everything but one album (and later just one song) to another card, and it doesn't solve the problem on the first one. All the files on the first card seem to be fine, I can read, write, copy everything, all other applications and players work except the Manila Audiomanager. Installing that other card with all the music (with all the subfolders, by the way) works fine. Go figure...
If reformatting doesn't work, the next thing I'd suggest that you try is removing album art and then reindexing your music (you'll find instructions about how to do it here on xda).
Oh, and one more thing I just recalled. Go to your library and see if all the music was indexed. If not, look at the last album (in alphabetic order) that was added. Try to delete it from the card and reindex.
mine crashes constant, i rarely get more then 90 seconds
Well it looks like it indexed everything....
I tried formatting the card using the HTC tool, recopying the data back to the card and it still crashed
When you say about the album art...
Do I remove folder.jpg from the folder that each album contains, or are you referring to removing all the embedded thumbnails in each of the mp3's?

I don't remember what it said, but I'd say go with the easier option first.
I used these steps to fix my library on my 16 GB card.
- format SD from HD2
- sync albums from WMPlayer by ActiveSync for correct folderstructure
- ran MP3val on Music folder on SD, fixed errors
http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/
Disable Microsoft error reporting and possibly it will just continue playing even if the error occurs. It's worth a try and also disabling error reporting solves lots of other issues.

Go to the device: Application data \ HTC \ Audiomanager_Eng folder, you will find a file there called "AudioManager_Eng.vol". Simply rename this file (add .old to it or something), and soft-reset your device. It will start indexing all over again, and you can now delete the renamed file.
I solved my crashes by doing the following:
- checked all the file-tags, updated them and changed the old v1 into v2.3 ones using mp3tag. There was one file with a messed up tag, deleted that.
- reindexed the music (see above).
It's been running smoothly a few hours now, in the car (A2DP) as well as on the headset or the device itself, no crashes yet. Seems the AudioManager will hang on indexing broken tags, so sort your tags ppl.
You are a clever bunch. I actually returned my HD2 because I decided I didn't want to be with vodaphone lol. I've gone back to o2 and the new one arrives tomorrow. I'll try all of your suggestions and I'll let you know how it goes!
Cheers Jon

Would it work via WMP if it was synced via USB??

Well that seems to have worked just syncing with WMP. It does lose some of the album art which is really annoying. So I've had to manually transfer some of the folder.jpg's into the relevant directories. Oh well no matter it works Thanks you guys!!
I think I found the problem; when you start up the Music player (not WMP) it automatically starts updating your library using Gracenote, and tries to play your selected music which causes the failure. I stopped the music and let the files began the update....and everything is now working.

HTC HD2 media player track order sd card probs

Hi. I'm new to this so apologies if this problem has already been answered. I've bought and installed a 16GB sd card in my HD2 and have transferred a fair bit of music to listen to. However media player is playing albums in an incorrect order (seemingly random, not alphabetical). When I transfer an album from the sd card to the 'my music' folder on the device, it plays in the right order! I've tried neptune which plays in the correct order but that won't respond to my bluetooth headset (when I press play, it automatically uses media player). Now when I copied and pasted an album onto my device which was also on the sd card, media player displayed the tracks twice in the correct order 1-15 consecutively (1-15, then 1-15 again). I deleted the device version and the sd card version went back to the seemingly random order. Can anyone solve this irritating problem?
Addition
Could I just add that when I say the problem is with windows media player I am reffering to the music player within HTC sense. Please help!
I have the same issue, very irritating , could anybody help please??
A poor solution
Right, until I can better this I'm gonna cut and paste the album I want to listen to from the sd card onto the device.
No
No, that doesn't work
Have the same problem with the HTC music application and Windows Media Player. Pocket Player and Pocket Tunes don't have this problem.
A solution that works!
Right, it's like this. Got to settings>personalize>home screen tabs and uncheck 'music'. Open 'Windows media player' either by playing a song off your music folder or adding a quick link to it. Then click 'library' and get it to scan for al your files. Now use windows media player as your player not HTC sense and it will all be fine. Thank goodness!
is there the same resolution for the HTC player?
Thanks mate. Now I can see it works fine on the Windows media player. but thats a pain to use with those annoying menus. I like the HTC player as its very much like the iphone player & its easy to use. Has anyone found the fix for the HTC player or is there another good working player thats similar to the iphone player.
Cheers
Shala
Hasn't anyone found a solution to this silly problem yet?
When you transfer music to the device, it apparently removes any existing track order, yet not every album is out of order when I play it on the HD2! It makes no sense at all.
Using WMP is no solution, I'd rather play the music without order or sit for several hours making playlists for every album.
EDIT: Googling the problem, I found a thread about a problem like this for the HTC Touch Pro, where a solution was proposed:
Found a solution for you...
you will need a registry editor for your HTC Touch Pro. I recommend the PHM registry editor (google it).
Locate the following key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored and modify the key Music Gizmo1 to the path you want the music file to be stored. I created a folder on the SD card named MUSIC and updated the path to \Storage Card\Music then rebooted the phone and all is well. Now I can turn off my phone, pop in the SD card and copy all my tunes over and bam.. I have all my songs at my finger tips. I hope this helps

hi,
if this does not work, i can share my application. It scans your music folder and generates playlists in the correct order.
it uses mp3 and wma tags for cd and track sequence. it works well for me but sometimes you need to clean up tags on desktop before copying music.
I have a 16 gb card as well and all my albums are ordered correctly using playlists instead.
I am sure using media monkey to synch gives you an option to push playlists as well and should give desured results.

Now how about this app that you mentioned?
And I can't find such a function in Media Monkey, any ideas?
Regarding media monkey please have a look at here:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/tutorial-syncing-music-and-playlists-3761/
You will need to connect the device in usb disk mode and then you can synchronise playlists when uploading tracks.
I will upload the application later on today or earlier tomorrow morning. I would however recommend the option above first as the application I have is picky on the tags and it expects track numbers and disc numbers to be set correctly in metadata.

They are. I'm also picky.
But yeah, the Media Monkey solution does sound smoother, I will try it out.
Thanks.
Hi again,
I have attached the files to this post. I still think, if Media Monkey option works for you thats the way to go. But this little tool helped me with the track order issues I had.
If your files are not in \Storage Card\music folder, you will need to set the location using the botton next to the text box.
Then you need to point the location to save the playlists. For me "\storage card\playlists" worked with every version of manila I used (Polaris, Diamond, HD, HD2)
It only supports mp3 and wma so there isnt much point to add more extensions, however you can remove one to exclude files of that extension.
Once all set up, you need to chose file - > Create playlists and application will scan your files and save the playlists in desired location.
I am using it with 16GB card and on Hd2 its pretty fast.
Here are some limitations:
1 - Extra information is created in the palylist file but still, when you select the playlist in manila player, it does not show fields like artist.
2 - Although some tags are valid, they cause errors in the application. I have some very old track I converted from CD's records mid/late 90s and if I see the issue on the mobile, I just run an application like Musicbrainz Picard to reftesh the tags and it all working again.
3 - If you have multi cd albums and disc numbers are not tagged, the track order may not be correct.
I always use usb mode to copy tracks and for me this tool works good enough to create the playlists the way I want to listen.
Hope it helps someone.
Simple Fix that worked for me
I to had the same problem with CD coming up in the wrong order in the player in HTC sense. When I checked what CD's were in the wrong order I noticed that they were all ones I had purchased off itunes and that the track information wasn't being picked up by my windows desktop. So i converted all my itunes music to MP3s using real player converter and now all of my library is in the correct order.
Hello,
I have the same problem. However, the tags are properly showing in all of these software :
MusicBrainz Picard
Windows Media Player
Windows 7 properties
So the track numbers seem to be correctly assigned. But still, the album tracks don't appear in the correct order for several albums in the HTC audio software.
The playlist utility keeps crashing on me, too.
By the way the HTC support regarding this issue is *terrible*, they keep telling me that the player sorts the music by "last time you played it". Nope. It doesn't. If so, when I play a single track, it would either pop at first place in the album or last place, depending on what they meant in their ballistic explanation (1 sentence). It, obviously, doesn't, and a player acting like that would be the stupidest music player in the world.
Does anyone have a solution ?
Did the "MediaMonkey" solution work,Overlord Yuri ?

I barely tried and didn't have any luck. Since then I've given up..
Oh, okay.
Thank you for your input, anyway.
This thing with the HTC support is starting to get on my nerves, especially how they still try to convince me that the problem will go away if I hard reset the phone (nope, done two times already due to FixOperaFlash ruining my config, and still the music player doesn't work)...
I have figured a work around to the track order problem.
Download mp3tag you can find it on download.com or just google it.
I opend up all my music and looked at the albums that were out of order.
They seemed fine. I just right click on the track and saved the tag. I though why not nothing else seems to work.
I resynced the album and it was in order!
I guess try it out and see if it works.
S**t man , it worked !
HUGE thanks to you !
By the way I just opened the whole library (which was already on the phone), selected all, and clicked on save so it refreshed all tags. And after deleting /Application Data/HTC/Audio Manager/AudioManager_eng.vol so it regenerates the library, it worked like a charm.

HTC Music tab help please

I performed a thread search and turned up nothing so please accept my apologies if this has been addressed before.
When I scroll sideways to the Music tab on the Home screen it opens playing music from the preinstalled "who wants to be a millionaire" demo instead of my music folder. It's pulling the music from "Storage Card\Program files\capcom\millionaire2010
I want it to pull the music from Storage Card\My Music
I've searched the phone settings and did a registry search for "Storage Card\Program files\capcom\millionaire2010 trying to find the correct setting or place in the registry to tell it to look at my folder instead of the game folder..
I did find the path that I believe is controlling the the music player however when I change it and reboot the device it goes right back to the millionaire location.
Could somebody please tell me which registry key stores the music folder settings... I can't find it... or if there is a setting in Windows that controls it... I can't seem to find that either.
thank you
open the wm player and update the library. I had to do it the first time and then again yesterday because he albums were gone again.
I've solved this by checking the "hide" option for the folders I didn't want in my Library.
The programs usually have no problem reading the folders, but the Music Tab stops showings those files.
It's not perfect, I know, but I've also searched everywhere for this and it's the only solution I found so far.

A way to manage music and playlists on wm (HD2)

I think that a post like this must be done, because I can't find anything right, and i have read many other people questioning about :
my device HTC HD2 Leo must be the best mp3 player!
-2 days ago I was thinking: yeah this hd2 is a great device, but to complicate to do some things and ecc.. I'm not a programmer, i can't do by myself I alwas have to wait to find solutions and twaeks.. even music, i can’t import a simple playlist.. i don't know.. I never try an iphone. Probably is simpler, it's almost a legend, it's firstly an ipod… At least music will be perfect... i will think about..
-yesterday i tried an iphone: i wanted just to test the music software, but i immediatly realized: Wow is this an iphone?!?! it seems a toys!!! and the music soft it's even less powerfull and functional then i was thinking! Always too enphasys on this object! it just slide well!... and i can't do anything different here..bhaaa
No matches, come proudly back on my wm hd2... !! at the end it really eats all other devices, and i have to solve his problem!..
Spending again time in serching, finally i found a way to manage music pc-device for good. yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!! more complex than expected, but damn, it works. As usuall for McGuiver’s breed\wm users .
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first problem is the music software on pc, you can choose obviously what you want, tranfer just songs has no problem for all. The problem is playlists exporting in ALL cases. I want my (sorry it needs months) mood-auto-playlists, or 4-stars-upper or everithing else both on pc and device with the ability of playing them when i want..but…but…but.. nothing?!?!? Are you joking me?? it’s so strange I want it, without rebuilding all playlist on device?!? Not perfect sync pc-device and reverse device-pc..just my playlist on device when i sync..
unlucky, it ‘s so because of some issues in devices and pc software options ...
1: pc music software in my experience:
Windows media player 12: good default software but limited. Even if is the windows software, now it can't tag music, and syncing it's unable to export the playlist file on device, only songs. (i belive probably we will see a windows phone7 ad hoc software, there no answers to that strange support, probably they want to make wm7 more attractive..)
MediaMonkey: the best music managing player! and not only the best, if you really want to organize music in deep way, it's the ONLY allinone solution. but as for the hd2, you have to search and learn a lot on the net, I had many problems in first experience. In the end, it can do everything on devices and pc. There's just one problem, it exports well playlists(m3u) but on wm device with storage card they were ‘wrong’written. argh! (but now i can solve!)
Itunes: personally i don't like it, but it's a good manager. Nothing really better against the others, it’s just comfortable if you have an apple device. if you depend from it, you can find solutions like pocket tunes software, or else.. but why when i have MM, and many software music player device?
Winamp, foobar, vlc.. they where appreciated software too, but for me MM still does everything better..
2: I conclusively choose MM. But how export well playlists? The problem remain that when I export a playlist, MM can’t recognize the songs file path written in playlists. So you’ll have readable lists imported, without the right file association. If you look in playlists opening them with notepad, songs playlists path will be: music\artist\album\song ..instead of the right (for most device player) storage card\music\artist\album\ songs…
In these way the only device software able to read these ‘wrong’ playlists will be that great free software called S2p from A_C, that can be extended with S2U2too. It works well, and probably on any wm device, but in my opinion on my Hd2 I would like something even better if possible..
I took a look on other software, and even if they are not all free, they all have their + and -. Playlists are featured not so much and well too.. Between them I personally prefer these two:
Pocket Player: the best in general, scrolling ,playlist,nowplaying,ratings,albumart..
haven't tried with 10 gigs jet, but it’s really the most powerful, usable, music oriented one.. even if some things are still not perfect, I hope they will be fixed on 4.2 release. It reads M3U playlists and other.
Htc audio manager(manila/sense music tab): It’s the only one with that beautiful landscape mode. - : must be tweaked to scan the right folder on SD, navigation has not alphabet scroll, and at the end I think that PP works better, but it’s good and already installed. It reads just ASX playlists file.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Converting:
Everithing you choose, the important is to understand the right file format for playlists on your device player. HTC->asx, PP->m3u, others->…………. And converting will make you free
As said the only auto-exportable playlists files, seems to come only with MM, and being my player I’ll work with these. It ‘s stupidly complex, I have to admit, but … works! Hoping that someone in future could make it simpler (in MM or in wm devices, please!!):
After I sync device with MM importing mp3s and playlists files, written playlists’ songs path, as said, will be readable but wrong\incomplete for all player except s2p. And all the other players remain unusable in this way.
To solve, the only solution I found is to convert that file in working one, and you need two tools:
-m3uToAsxConverter (for pc) http://electron.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29731
-and PlaylistManager (on device) i don’t remember link, sorry( Google it)
In this way, if you drag and drop the imported-device-not-working-m3uplaylist-file ( that has not ‘storage card’ write in paths) on m3uToAsxConverter.exe file. It will be converted automatically in an asx file (good for htc audio manager) with also the right path rewritten.
Now re-import manually the converted playlist on device, and open that with PlaylistManager.
If you want to insert it in HTC AM, go for file , save as HTCoption….
Or if you want it for others players, choose simply save as , for example in PP folder, and convert the asx file again in an m3u file.
Finally you’ll have all your playlists on device too, remembering ,thanks to McGuyver, to update them when something change on the pc library.
That’s so! Yhahuuuu
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hoping this could help others, I’m quite a newbie in Wm world, so I don’t know if all this is the best solution , but in all the time I spent searching about, this is the only working way..
Let me know if you discover\do something better please!

Thanks for taking the time to share. I just started looking for a solution to this today!
A simpler way?

The path in the .m3u is dependent on where you tell MM to save it. So I moved all my files to a folder in this path on the pc: "c:\storage card\music\ . . ."
Then I saved the playlist to the "c:\" and the playlist now includes the "storage card" part of the path. You don't have to put in root at c:\. I can go anwhere, but you have to save the playlist in the level above "storage card"
When I moved it to the HD2, it did not work! I saved a new song on the hd2 to the same playlist, moved it back to the PC to see why it would play, and not the songs saved by MM. It turns out that MM saves the path as "storage card\music\ . . ." It does not put in the initial '\" in the path. It should be "\storage card\music\ . . ."
So, now after I save the play list with MM to c:\
1. Open playlist with notepad
2. type Ctrl+H (Replace)
3. type "storage" in 'Find What'
4. type "\storage" in 'Replace with'
5. select 'Replace all'
6. save the file
7. sync to hd2
That's it. The file is on correct format with the full path. The point is to have identical paths to the music on both the hd2 and PC.
Hope this helps . . .
Strange behavior...
Hi!
I read through your small guide and did not get any answer to my problem so here goes:
I had my songs in one folder on my SD card, i had made two playlists.
Then without removing thoose two playlists i moved my whole music folder into where it should be in My Documents/Min Musik <-- Swedish path!
Now to my problem, as you can see in the picture i have two playlists with a different icon (Blandat and Sade) on it, thoose to is not removeable
why and how can i remove them manualy? I have searched through my whole device without finding them.
Please can you help me...
INFO
I use Windows media player to hold my music and playlist on my PC, i then make an auto sync of my HD2 with wmp for all my playlists and they all work perfect in sense?
my music AND my playlists on my PC gets transferred and recognized perfectly?!?
EDIT: by the way, for tagging my mp3's with information AND build in image witch also gets shown everytime in sense, i use NCH stamp id3 tag editor.. works like a charm

dogg,
Thanks for sharing. Could you please share versions of wmp on pc? ALso, what type of playlist (.asx, .m3u, etc) is created on PC? does it sync as-is, or converted to another type on hd2? Also, what is the folder structure of your music (and playlists) on both PC and HD2?
Thanks . . .
This is my solution for those who use Itunes and especially those who prefer to use the simplicity of the unix platform within the mac.
The software for syncing my music is called double twist which runs both on Mac or PC, this great piece of software recognises the HD2 straight away and imports everything from your itune library which you just copy to your SD card. It even now support itune s the Android Market for those that may want to port Android to their HD2 in the future when it becomes available.
Once you have connected your beloved HD2 a sync music panel appears with 2 options, sync all music or selected playlists, I use this section for only syncing my podcasts because that is the only thing that changes each week, this is how I do it;
1. Create a playlist in itunes called podcast
2. start up DT and go to library > music> source >itunes and select the podcast playlist you created
3. Now go to the file menu > library > add to library
4. Now the playlist will appear every time you connect and you just need to refresh this playlist which can be doe automatically in the preferences.
Every week I start up itunes and wait for it to finish downloading my subscribed podcasts and then drag them into my podcast playlist, after deleting the previous weeks podcast. Now just start up DT with HD2 connected and press the sync button and my podcasts are now on my my HD2
This solution is excellent for those who realised that owning a MBP running virtual box with windows 7, best of both worlds. This set up allows you to take advantage of the apple MBP and still be able to flash ROM's from the one set up.
<p><em>hope</em> this helps</p>

This is probably WAY too late, but as I had to sync my first WMP playlist to my HD2 today and ran into the same issues as everyone else before finally working out the secret, I thought I'd update this thread. Best of all, you don't need to download or convert anything, syncing does work as it is supposed to.
- First of all Restart both your computer and HD2 (this is a precaution and can't hurt).
- After making your playlist in WMP attach your phone via USB as normal. IMPORTANT: when your connection options appear, make sure you select 'Active Sync' and NOT 'Disk Drive' (even though this would be a faster transfer the playlists won't come across this way). Press Sync on WMP.
- After Sync in WMP is complete, make sure you ALSO 'Sync All' in Active Sync. This might take a while and may even create an error at the end. Don't worry. If you don't do this, you may find that even though the Playlists appear on your HD2, none of the Music actually plays.
- Launch your HD2 Player and let the scanning complete, but don't play anything.
- Unplug and Restart your HD2.
- Now (hopefully) your playlists will appear AND play.

Am I reading this thread correctly...
Does the HTC Sence player read .asx playlists only?
If so where does the playlist have to sit for the sense player to pick it up?
If I read this correctly should it go in the phone root?
If so I have a problem: I have placed one there and the sense player can't see it :-(
I am using MusicBee to create and export my playlists in.asx format. I can even get it to map the paths correctly from PC path to HD2 path so may have a simple working solution if I can just get sense to recognise the .asx file.
Any help on where I should locate the .asx file so that sense player will see it greatly appreciated.
I can't even find the ones that I have created manualy through the sense player itself!! WTF does sense do with them??
Regards
Clive
HTC HD2 playlist location and format
I have done some investigating. It appears that the audiomanager does NOT use ASX format playlists, but basically m3u style with just the path to each song, one song per line. The location of playlists is \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\playlists
The tricky part seems to be that playlists are in a BINARY format. If you use Playlist Manager to convert a playlist for audiomanager, then copy that playlist from \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\playlists you will be able to open it in Notepad and it appears to be an ordinary text file. In fact, you can add songs to it in notepad, save the file, copy it back to \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\playlists and after a soft reset the playlist will have your new entries. However, if you were to copy and paste the text in that file to a new text file, copy that to the HD2 and soft reset the new playlist will appear empty.
Examining the files shows the playlists produced by Playlist manager are substantially bigger than an equivalent plain text file. A hexdump shows that each character is padded by a hex 00, and there is some extra stuff at the start.
In short, Playlist manager (http://mobisapienz.com/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=82) is the way to go. Make plain m3u playlists (making sure the path is relative to your phone, not your pc, as described in other posts), open them in playlist manager and use it to export them to HTC audiomanager - then soft reboot.
BTW, playlists made this way can't be edited in the phone. Changes will be lost when you reset. Deleting them seems to be a bit tricky, too.
Edit: Playlists created on the phone are stored in a single binary file in \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\AdioManager_Eng.vol
