Hi guys,
I've been having issues with sending text messages in the past few days, and it has come on since being at my parents. At first I thought it might have been a problem in the local area, but today I travelled out of the area and my texts aren't getting through still.
I have the delivery report turned on, and each time i send a message that is greater than 160 characters, it comes back saying "The message sent to <recipientname> is not reachable". I've done a bit of googling but I haven't found anything useful. I only really text my girlfriend and we quite often send messages that are 160 characters in length. \
Any ideas what a cause may be? I will be trying to contact the mobile operator (T-Mobile) but I want to be sure it isn't the phone being silly.
Much appreciated if you guys can help
could be a simple hangup between area antennas.
Have you done a soft reset ? If yes, simply run the com wizard again and it should work.
A soft reset has done the trick, thanks
I am having a similar issue except that any text message above 159 characters is not received by one particular person I send it to. I am using my HD2 on O2 contract and the person I am texting is using an LG 910 on Virgin Mobile PAYG. They can send me long text messages fine but they just can't receive them from me.
Also, other people using different phones on different networks can receive long text messages ok from me. Also the person I am texting can receive long text messages from other people.
If I send a long text message with the *0# sequence to request an SMS delivery notification I get a confirmation back saying it was delivered but the person I sent it to never receives the text.
I am wondering if this is some compatibility issue between the HD2 SMS messaging software and the LG 910 phone. Its all very annoying!
Also a soft reset doesn't make any difference either.
Many thanks,
Richard.

Hi All,
I'm running 1.66.00WWE & when i send SMS messages to people sometimes only half of it comes through for them. The SMS's are not over the character limit, for example a 20 char SMS sometimes only comes out with the first 10.
Anyone else had this problem or know of a solution?
I've had this problem before. For the recipient, it's similar to that of recieving a multi-page sms which of course takes time to update on their phone.
I just wrote it off as a service provider problem, but if others have the same problem, maybe it is handset related.
Truncated SMS Messages
I too am having problems with truncated messages (just no text actually) on some occasions. Not sure if it is reception related or what. Can anyone help. I'm running latest versions of ROM on o2 XDA II, using an Orange SIM
In my case it was all or nothing. I ended up putting +44 in front of all my UK mobile numbers and that seemed to solve it -not sure if it is the same problem as you are having though.
I also had the similar prob before, and got it solved with the help of gazzaman2k. Try this out, this might do it.
1.) Go to Inbox
2.) At the bottom, Click Accounts, then Accounts again.
3.) Tap *SMS
4.) Untick \"Send SMS messages using unicode when necessary\"
5.) Press \'OK\' then the \'X\'
Let me know if this fixes it.
was supposed to POST reply to thig, but Gut_S beat me to it, hehehe.
YUP, unticking that SEND SMS using UNICODE when necesarry will solve this problem, and TELL your friends about it. SERVICE providers GAIN a LOT from this bug coz you might think your sending only 1 SMS but actually it is counted as 2 or even 3 mesages by the network.
cheers.
Maybe it's just me with the problem, but when someone text messages me, and I press on the Reply icon, the reply won't go through once I send it. I manually have to go through my phonebook, find the person, and choose to text message them from there.
Anyone else having this problem?
This has happened to me with previous phones, I do not think it is a problem with the Magician...
The problem occurred on my SE P900 because the person who sent the SMS had a setting on their phone "Reply via same Message Centre" in their SMS settings. Seems some phones do not respect this setting (and reply using the default message centre number) meaning the text message is sent sucessfully... however, some phones (the P900 being one) do, and try to reply to the text using the SMS message centre number that the original text was sent via.
Now, this doesn't normally cause a problem, however, if you are on a network which has various message centre numbers (for contract, for pre-pay etc) then this is where the trouble can start.
O2 - UK is one of the offenders. They have a message centre number for contract users, and one for pre-pay users... however, for some unknown reason, they bar you from sending a text message via the other message centre... so, when my friend, with her Nokia 3410, on O2 pre-pay sent me a text, I couldn't reply to it, however, I could go in and make a new one and send it fine.
Ironically, I could reply to texts from other friends on completely different networks no problem, and I could reply to friends on O2 contract no problem!
Well, there's the theory... your situation might not be the exact same...
But anyway... the solution is to inform your friends to find the setting (in SMS settings) on their phone that looks like "Reply via same Message Centre" and set it to NO.
(Also note, Nokia 3410's sometimes do not have this setting available on them! I think the setting is stored on the SIM card, maybe, so you'd probably have to switch the SIM to another phone, change the setting, and switch it back.)
works for me if i delete all but the phone number in the "To" field after i choose "reply"
Hello All,
Something weird is happening with my MDA (Rom 2.26), whenever someone send an email to my cellphone email ([email protected]) I receive the text as a MMS message instead of a Text Message and I have to download it in order to read the message.
If someone sends me an SMS I receive it as a Text Message. So the problem seems to be only when someone email my cellphone. This was working fine (received emails as Text Messages) few weeks ago and know it doesn't work anymore and I'm been charged 25 cts per message instead of 10 cts.
T-Mobile said that they don't know what is wrong and that I should "hard reset" my MDA and test again....
Do you have any ideas of what could be the problem? Any hacks?
Thanks
Freddy
There is a discussion about this issue in HF: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1037868
Does anybody here have the same problem?
I read your topic on HF and here and still have the same conclusion i had when i opened this topic and read your initial post... It is a T-Mobile network issue. The phone dosen't determine what an MMS or SMS is to the extent that it will convert one to the other. T-Mobile is sending you an MMS. Currently for me that is not the case. Maybe they are phasing out the SMS legacy support since pretty much every device now is MMS capable and this is starting in some markets.
Either way, no one here can tell you as we don't work for T-Mobile (though i can't speak for everyone so a T-Mobile employee might be lurking somewhere) and there is nothing you can do because there isn't a "problem" with your phone. Well you can call T-Mobile and complain; that is your best bet.
Hello,
I seem to be having an issue with the time stamps on my text messages. The ones that I send are okay, however the ones that I receive all have different times on them. For example:
If I send a text at 8:15PM and receive a reply right away, it'll show my text sent at 8:15PM, but the reply will have a back dated time... Maybe 5PM, 4PM... something like that.
Any ideas why?
Thanks!
I find this but its by no means universal. some messages I recive are an hour ahead others are not. I recived two messages at almost the same time & one of them had the wrong time. I can't wait for the new update to fix all of these little issues
I've seen this problem since my G1. It's still suffering from it, as is my Magic and my Hero.
I'm still having the same issue.
My received text messages show a time of 4 hours behind.
So if I send a text at 6:30 and receive a reply at 6:32, it shows 2:32 as the received time.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this? I have updated to the latest (leaked) firmware, but still no luck.
Thanks!
Are you all on the same network? Might not be the phone because i've never noticed this

Was just going to ask this... What network are you on, have you set network location to automatic by carrier, if so, set it manually to the city / country you are in.
I'm on O2 and have been using the network provided values.
I've set it to manual and text someone at 12:44. The reply came in a little while after and was stamped 12:45 so no issue there it seems. Strange.
I'm now getting issues now with texts in fairly quick succession.
The time stamps can be the same i.e. 21:17 but a reply from someone will sometimes appear before my original text in thread view.
Also a reply came in to one of my texts with a time stamp before my original text. This was displayed "correctly" as before my text, but the fact its timestamped in this way can't be right.
Anyone else seen this?
It's like the phone is looking at minutes for accuracy, not seconds. Also taking the timestamp of when a text was sent from the other person's phone as the time received to my phone. Hm :/
I get this on Orange when I receive a message from the US. All my outgoing messages are listed at the bottom of the conversation, while the one received from the US are at the top.
UK based conversations are all threaded correctly.
Ok thanks.
It never used to be like this so I'm wondering after prolonged use the sms database gets a bit corrupted somehow?
For me it seems to behave like this: for outgoing (sent) messages I see the time that is set on Hero. For incoming messages, however, Hero shows the time on the network provider.
I assume there is some header in SMS message containing the time, and Hero uses that instead of using the time Hero has when the message arrives.
I started using the Network Provider time (automatic) to get rid of this.
Hello,
I really like my G4 Play (Amazon edition) phone with one exception. I only receive a portion of Concatenated (greater than 160 characters) SMS messages that are sent from T-mobile Iphones to my phone (also on T-mobile). I will get some, but not all. I have used my SIM in other android phones and have another T-mobile SIM in my phone and I get the same issue. From iphones from other carriers I have no problems. From Androids on T-mobile, I also have no problems. I have no problem receiving single SMS messages nor MMS messages. I have contacted T-mobile and they have been no help. I have changed some APN settings, but with no success.
I have also restored my phone to factory settings and have tried Textra also. No changes.
My question: Has anyone had any issues with concatenated SMS messages?
I am thinking about getting a replacement phone, but don't want to if this happens on a replacement phone or if there is a known fix.
Thanks.

I appreciate the response, but I'm not sure I understand your question.
I receive properly all SMS that are < 160 characters.
For SMS messages that are > 160 characters:
1) I will sometimes receive these and sometimes not receive these when they are from an iphone on the T-mobile network (I am also on the T-mobile network)
2) I will receive all of the the >160 SMS if:
a) they are on any other network regardless of the type of phone
b) they are on an android and on the T-mobile network
Did that answer your question?
160+ character text messages are sent as mms. try sending/receiving a picture and see what happens.

MMS messages work just fine. When my wife puts in a subject field, the long messages are turned into a MMS and always get to me.
For long SMS info see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concatenated_SMS

I have worked with T-mobile and Moto with no luck. Moto sent me a new phone (Amazon version of XT1607). I still have the same issue with not receiving long SMS messages (>160 characters) from iphones on T-mobile. These long SMS messages are concatenated SMS messages and are not MMS messages.
I'm sure that there is another Amazon G4 play person who is on Tmobile and has a Tmobile friend who can send them 5 long SMS messages to see how many get through to him/her. Can someone please try this? I have tried other SIM cards in it from my family and the same thing happens. It would be nice to see if someone else has the same issue!
I don't know what I can do but wait for the Nougat release in June. If I had know this would be an issue I wouldn't have bought the Amazon version and I could have installed another ROM.
