I read that google maps are included on this- can anyone tell me if they are cacheable or do you have to DL them each time you use them? I can imagine data charges skyrocketing if they dont.....
maybe i will just stick tomtom on it.....
Once the data is downloaded initially, it is then cached. However, when you zoom in or out, it has to refresh and that is downloaded as well. But once you have it, it's saved.
can i do this from a wifi connection at home (free)?
Sorry, Google Maps does insist on an active internet connection when you try and run it, so that it can download as required. I doubt there's a way to spoof it. You're probably better off getting TomTom or iGo or something.

Google Maps? Where to find...
I also have my HD now for about a week now, and searched for Google just to try it out. However, I still haven't found it anywere; nor on on CD, neither on my HD (which they direct you to from the manual; Start - Programs - Google Maps). Are there different versions going round with or without it? I read somewhere that another dutch man had it on his one....

It's a lot easier to go directly to www.google.com/gmm...
By the way, it was not installed on mine (WWE version, bought in Switzerland)
its on the programs page, middle slot, top row.
@Rolud: Thanks for the link! Going to try it out (although I read that TT is better to use though...).
@indup: I tried both from Touch3D programs, all programs and from WM programs section, all were not showing up Google... But I've installed it now via the link of Rolud.
I guess there are different models out then; with and without Google Maps pre-installed. Would like to know more differences between them actually...

I hope its finally possible to get GPS working! I tried a lot of different versions of google Maps on my Hermes with external bluetooth GPS Keychain 2000, I never succeed to get it work. It realy s*cks!
Maybe the UK version has Google Maps, but the Dutch version doesn't? And that other person you mentioned had one that wasn't from Holland?
The other Dutch person also have an WWE version, just like me (don't know who exactly, but just read it somewhere here at another tread which I cannot find anymore due to the many treads and pages there are from HD users... ).
But I got it installed now, and at the HD it is working with GPS without any problems. It even got a good GPS signal although I'm in my room and it was very well positioned (2 to 3 meters difference)!
It also looks great on the screen of the HD
Some versions don't have Google Maps preinstalled.
Was looking at the HD at a shop the other day and there was no Google Maps on it, and the manual says
10.1 Google Maps (Available by Country)

My Belgian bought WWE version with firmware 401 didn't have Google Maps, but then I flashed it with the latest WWE firmware 405 release (made after the date I received mine apparanty) and that one did have google maps by default.
All the other european language ones I've seen so far all have the 401 level of firmware.
So with the ones delivered from now on, there might be Google maps installed with non WWE devices that have a 405 level firmware on them.
I bought mine today, and it has GMM preinstalled on it.
Mine didn't have GM preinstalled either
UK version bought in Belgium
ROM version: 1.14.401.3 (22273) WWE
It was not pre-installed on my HTC Touch HD. I could not follow the link win Opera. I used IE to download Google Maps and install. Hopefully it detected the correct version.
Much better getting Tomtom. If you're using google maps, with gps and 3G hard at work, you're gobbling the battery something insane.
I'm more curious to how to get GM as a tab like Manila2D had.
Anyone know if the TTN7.910.9185.cab will work on out Titans? I'm a little leery about installing it as I've got the prior version working well and don't want to bork anything by trying the install.
Grabbed the file from here:
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=13032
Remember, this file is legit as provided in ROM with the TP but posting / talking about maps or voices is warez so isn't kosher!
Thanks in advance if anyone is willing to give it a go!
This version is made for another device and tells you so when trying to install on a Mogul. prior tt7 install otherwise intact.
Thanks for trying... Oh well. I wanted to upgrade my maps by BUYING (not cracking) the newest ones but on some other forums they mentioned a problem with the build I'm using (using 7.450 (9029) build with 720.1803 USA and Canada maps) not allowing the latest maps to be used.
If anyone knows for sure how to purchase the latest maps for this build (like what TomTom Home to use and what maps to purchace) I'd greatly appreciate it.

here is the link you need to buy the maps to run on this tt7 cab
ps....that cab is for the touch diamond.

Thanks as well Liamhere. Unfortunately I need the USA and Canada maps and the link only give UK / Europe / Asia maps.
I have TT Home 1.5 installed and it does give me an option of purchasing the latest maps for the USA. I'm a bit afraid of committing the $70 on purchasing the map as one or two threads talk about needing to upgrade to the latest TT home (2.5 I think) as when I install that version, it doesn't find my Titan.
Does anyone know if the 1.5 version of TT Home will install the latest USA and Canada maps to the Titan if I purchase them?
works for me
7.910 runs fine on my mogul - am using the USA_CANADA 815.2022 map with it.
I know it was developed for the Diamond so my cab version may have been modified to work on non-Diamond. I don't use TTS but the voice does prompt me at turns.

...so where can we find the latest TTN7 cab for Titan?

Great news, Muledeer, can you post a link to the 7.910 cab and if not point us to where you got it? Oh, Happy New Year!
I own the older TT5 maps. Anyone know if the newer interface works with those old maps?

From what I understand, no. Only Navigator 7 and 8 maps will work with the Diamond cab for the mogul.

Update: Found the cab (google is your friend), installed, ran fine, but TomTom Home 2.5 still can't see my XV6800 meaning I can't legally buy new maps. I even tried TT Home 1.5 and while it could see my poi's it couldn't see my maps or my device (but it did tell me I had a Titan attached, how odd). So......
Unless someone knows how to get TomTom Home 2.5 to see our Moguls, this is a fools errand if you want to stay legal.
/rant
If TomTom wants to stop rampant piracy, they should release Navigator 7/8 for PPC w/o crippling TT Home by locking out all but a few HTC devices!
Oh, please don't ask where I got the cab or files as it will break the TOS of this forum and ultimate goal was to stay legal!
Hello guy's,
I'm looking for Navigation software that uses offline maps. I've tried Navigon and Copilot. Working good.
I only have one big problem. I live in Holland and often travel to Germany. Navigon and Copilot can't calculate routes over borders. So I have to navigate to the nearest town to the German border , enter Germany and enter a new destination.
Is there anybody who knows how to fix this? Or another navigation software?
Thnx!!
** edit ** sorry on checking I was wrong
hello sector51,
you can install mobile maps 10... works fine for me
http://www.sygic.com/

Or try motonav. For me works fine
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hi. I use copilot which is available from the Android market. It's around 33 English pounds or around 45 USD.
It's great. Works perfect. Highly recommend it.

That's not entirely true. Co-pilot can navigate over borders. I travelled from Vancouver to Seattle the other day without problem. However, in order to do this you must not download individual maps for smaller regions (i.e. in my case British Columbia - Canada and Washington - USA) as then it doesn't work. In order to get it to work I had to download all of North America as one big map and then it would work fine.
Therefore, if you are in Europe and have a big SD card, just download the entire western europe map and not ones for individual countries or regions

That's not correct. During trial period Navigon does not calculate routes over borders. If you buy it, cross-border navigation works. I went from Austria to Croatia (over Slovenia) last week and Navigon worked as designed.

I'm checking out Maps (-) at the moment - caches OpenStreetMap offline - won't do navigation and searching but does do offline mapping.
If you can live with using OpenStreetMap, try NavDroyd. Caches maps on SD, with routing and pretty fast! Works fine with my Desire on Froyo.
Copilot works fine across borders. Never had problems with it. well, except for signal, but that is depending on where I am. Guess that's with all navigation software on phones.
Is there any info on 2.2 compatibility? I am thinking of rooting and getting 2.2. But if that means I have to give up on navigation for now, I don't know.

Hello,
I just bought Co Pilot 8 and installed it on my HD2. It only give me Europe maps....do anyone know where I can get the US maps and how to install them? If I can't then how do I get a refund on Microsoft Marketplace?
any Ideas???
please help..
Thanks
did you bought CP8 on the official website? There you can choose which package you like to purchase. so you mabe just took the "wrong" one?
Yea, i bought CP8 off the website and chose the US maps version. Sounds like you need to get a refund and then go buy the correct version.
I choose the one off the Microsoft Marketplace site.....I thought I choose the right one....I did not order it from the official website...does anyone have the cab for the right one?
Thanks
Best You go to Copilot´s website and mail Your request to the support. Expelaon in detail how You purchased Your version.
I had some issues in Dec. 2009 and they were very helpful although I used the special HTC-HD2-version of Copilot which does not have the same support as the "open" version.
For installing maps You don´t need a cab but only the map-files for the region of choice.
Thank you
This was very helpful....I will contact them....
Thanks again
