App to force other apps into landscape? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Is there any app to force other apps that you have running to landscape mode? I tried Gyrator, but when it goes to running the emu it forces its way back to portrait and stays that way. Or could I try a registry hack to force it to landscape?

I use G-Config v1

ChangeScreen is what I use. I find it reliable and easy to configure. Just make sure to make your "Exceptions" (ie. if you don't want one app to rotate, add it to the exceptions list so it stays still). You can configure which ways you want things to rotate (left, right, and/or upside-down).

Gyrator 2 or G-sensor can do the job

Both Gyrator and changeScreen wouldn't work. Whenever I turn it around, the emulator screen would go straight back to portrait mode after the emulator started. I tried putting an exception in ChangeScreen that forced it to always be in landscape, but it still didn't work after the emulator started up. Oh well. Guess I'll just live with it.

Use this it's a perfect solution

You can also do it from QuickMenu 2.8 (options QuickMenu->Screen->Rotate left, right, etc)

Howto always keep HTC wizard in landscape mode?

Hi!
Is it possible to always keep HTC wizard in landscape mode?
I can change it manually by tapping on screen or by HW button. But it reverts to portrait every time I close the keyboard. Since I use the keyboard 98% of time it takes forever every time the screen rotates.
Does anyone of you guru's know of any reg hack or something else that can keep landscape all the time?

VJ come through with a fix (again)
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=928836&page=1&pp=15
See the post from me (a042349) near the bottom of page one. It's a bit of a hack, but it'll work until the next soft reset.
Go to "settings" "system" tab and select screen. There is an option ot select Portrait, Right handed Landscape or left handed landscape.
Re: VJ come through with a fix (again)
a042349: tnx!
This is the soloution you described:
-----------
Start the camera application which puts the phone in landscape mode. Then use a 3rd party utility like "Close-All" or maybe even the native task manager (can't remember exactly) to "kill" the camera app. As long as you kill the camera app without using it's "x" or exiting normally, the device will stay in landscape mode. It stays this way if you open/close the keyboard. It will return to normal mode if you re-open the camera and close it normally, or soft reset the device.
-----------
I tried this on my wizard. But couldn't get it working. I've tried closing the camera app with VJOKButt, VBAR and the native task manager. It stays in landscape mode until I close the keyboard next time. IE exactly the same behavoiur as when manually changing to landscape mode in settings.
May be this is due to all these programs close the camera app to nicely? Or can it be this isn't working on the latest AKU2 ROM?
Anyone got an idéa?

Not working for me too. Maybe something with wm6? God, someone has to hack the wizard about this problem!
Thank you guys for tryin'
registry keys
I know this thread is somewhat inactive but I just got an 8125 and really wanted to figure this out. I did some poking around in the registry and some experimentation and found the registry keys that seem to do what we want.
HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\CamAppActive - 0 is off, 1 is on. When this is 1 it keeps the screen from rotating. This seems to be why the camera workaround worked.
Set CamAppActive to 1, then go to settings/system/screen and switch the landscape lefthanded mode. Now the phone is in landscape and theres no laggy switching between portrait and landscape every time you open the keyboard ! To cancel it out just open and close the camera or soft-reset.
This could also be used to keep the screen in portrait whenever the keyboard is open....but i have no idea why anyone would want to do that.
If i knew more about messing around with the registry and programming for WM I'd try to work out some sort script to set this on startup..maybe when i get bored...

Motion Sensor in all apps

Is there any way to make the motion sensor working in all applications?
I really would like the screen to be turned also in the acrobat reader for example...
Gsensor is the solution....
The GSen is indeed a good app to do the trick on the HD. Take a look here (also to download):

I guess there will be more apps for it, but don't know them yet.

Exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks!
On my HD I cannot have Gsen launch at startup as I get an error message about it not being able to access the G-sensor.
I have to wait for TF3D to load and then load it manually. Not a biggie but a niggle - but less of a niggle than not having my screen reorient as I need it.

Yes, it is. More flexible, comfortable und stable.
Is there a way to get Gyrator to autostart?
Another thing is that when I push the -close all programms- button. It closes Gyrator as well. Is there a way to keep Gyrator running on the background?
Auto start and stop it closing
I couldn't get on with GSEN and had similar problems launching gyrator at start up....
so I wrote the simplest Mortscript....and attached it.
Just edit the script (if your Gyrator is intalled elsewehere, otherwise leave it), and copy a shortcut to the script to your startup folder.
Change the delay time till it fits for you.
You'll also need to download and install mortscript, but it's extremely useful & free!
see http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=page&entry=ms_overview&action=view
As for stopping it closing, click the tools (the spanners) in the HTC task drop down (where you go to close all apps) and set gyrator2 to exclusive.
Job done
Both apps work fine for me.
The only problem I have is within opera.
If I turn the screen, then opera turns, but then in the next second it turns back to portrait.
Opera is excluded from doing anything in both apps.
(Off course I only use one app at the time)
Any help for that?
no problem with opera here, using gyrator. turns screen in every direction i turn the device, except upside down.
gyrator works fine, although if you lock the device it will rotate your today screen as well. a bit annoying when the device is in your pocket the wrong way, answering a phonecall is kind of a challenge.
Still the same problem:
Using gyrator with the default settings, my Opera Browser first rotates to landscape when turning the device to landscape as it should.
Then after 2-3sec it rotates back to portrait even if the device is still holded in landscape.
Any idea?

Well Opera can be rotated with the motion sensor by default, try adding it in the Gyrator exceptions.

I have the same problem!
Any solution yet?
Gyrator 2 was working fine but now I have a strange problem with it. After a softreset everything works as should, but for some reason after a little while whenever I turn the device in lanscape the creen reverts back to the TF3D tab in portrait that I had last used. Is it a setting that does this? When I disable gyrator 2 everything is fine, but then not everything rotates as I would like it to.
I have added two execptions to the standard ones, the today screen and the incoming call screen.
If anybody know an answer or has (had) the same problem I'd appreciate a fix/solution.
thanks!
Or MobileMagic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449654
Which does not have issues with Opera...
And allows also to force apps to certain rotations....
But every app has its pros and cons...
Being a Newbie to winmob (formerly UIQ3) I am finding that Gens is OK on mosts screens but not on Home Page and the other TouchFlo screens. Am I doing something wrong - or probably stupid?
I was having lots of problems with all my apps. They seemed to only rotate sometimes, and I couldn't have the device even slightly flat or the rotation wouldn't occur.
I just was playing around with gyrator 2, went into edit event for (disabled) opera, orientation and checked all but the last two options and hit apply.
Opera is still showing as disabled, but what a difference!
Rotates really quickly, and when almost flat as well!

Home/Today-Screen for Landscape mode on HD? (maybe from the Touch pro (Raphael))

Hi,
I want to use my HD in Landscape mode in the car, mostly for Navigation purposes, but sometimes also 'just' as a phone. (I need the landscape mode to have full functionality of Navigon MN7). The Problem is that the TF3D supports only portrait mode. Is there a possibility to (automatically) use a different Landscape-Today-Screen when turning the device and get back to TF3D when turning back to portrait? The Toch pro has a kind of Landscape today-Screen, although it's not TF3D... could there be a possibility to use that somehow? or just any other sensible possibility without switching off tf3d or manually using second today or something?
regards jan
really no one any ideas/suggestions? am i the only one who has that "problem"?
Have you tried GSen or Gyrator 2?
From what I understood it will fit your needs. Search for any of them here on forum.
i know about programs like gsen or gyrator, but that's not the point... the point is that the tf3d today/home screen itself is not available in landscape mode.
Another problem seems to be, that there are certain applications, who change the orientation again.
When I set orientation to landscape and start Navigation, it works as expected. Then a call comes in and the phone application turns everything back to portrait ... no way, to go back to landscape anymore. Is there a way to tell the phone app, not to turn the screen back again?
By the way, on the touch diamond the phone app runs in landscape, when this is the actual orientation ...

i believe you just answered your own question.
if you look at the raphael, the landscape mode requires an entirely different set of graphics and frames and layouts. it is not a simple rotate of the portrait view. On HD, that set of graphics, and frames do not exist. I _believe_ even if the GSEN or gyrator will rotate the homescreen to landscape, you would get some pretty ugly results. i haven't tried myself.
Yep it's like an untuned tv on the right. I really like it
Having said that if anyone does port the graphics...

Permanent landscape view? + SOLVED +

This is the deal breaker for me.
The lack of keyboard will be better if I can make the screen horizontal as I do on my TyTn II. My screen is permanently on ladnscape mode.
As it looks better and there is no lag when switching.
Possible on the HTC Touch HD?
From the manual I read online and playing with it at the store I think its not possible.
Any info?
Thanks
Solution:
To remain constantly in landscapde mode:
You will need to rotate the screen and switch the phone dialer menu(screen) from the default HTC one to the WM dialer menu.
There are plenty of ways to rotate the screen and one way to switch from HTC dialer to WM.
N.B: You must disable the HTC Touch Flow 3d home menu by deselecting from the Home menu in settings.
To change to WM dialer from HTC dialer:
1- Download and install HD Tweak (thanks montecristoff & co.)
2- Use it to change the dialer to WM dialer.
To rotate the screen:
* Search on the forum for the registry tweak to make the option of selecting either landscape or portrait appear. Then go to Start/Settings/Screen and select landscape.
or
Use software like pbar or quickmenu or spb pocketplus to rotate the screen. Obviously pbar or quickmenu are preferable because they are free and very useful (thanks creators).
Cons:
1- With the WM dialer, you loose the ability to make video calls. Its not forever though, you can easily switch to HTC dialer from the HD tweak app.
2- You fore go the HTC Touch Flow 3d home screen. You will probably need to get SPB mobile shell or similar.
Pros:
1- Screen looks damn nice in landscape mode, or as I like to refer to it as wide screen!
2- More text in a more natural perspective. Things dont look so narrow.
3- Typing onscreen is much easier because the virtual keyboard is larger/wider.
I prefer this way because I did not like the way my previous TyTn II (Kaiser) lagged when it rotated from portrait to landscape every time I opened/used the physical keyboard. So I decided to keep it landscape. Turned out to be the best(my) option.
No landscape mode is supported! only TF3D today plugin doesnt support landscape!
so you will not have a problem!
Most software will work in landscape mode - see the FAQ:
"How do I make all applications turn when I rotate the HD?
Not all applications respond to the g-sensor (screen rotation)
There are a number of applications (eg. Gyrator2, GSen) that can help work around this issue. "
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlackstoneFAQ
Not sure which applications work in landscape and which don't though, but you'd get most of them in landscape.
The Keyboard is pretty usable in portrait with such a big screen too.
I want it in landscape mode permanently!
Not with some applications...
Well u can rotate today screen aswell but it wont look as nice.Tobad it rotates back though when u return from an applicaiton to the today screen.
But that should be fixable. Just try to rotate today via the built in rotate setting and u will se how it looks.
It looks a little weird on the right side of the screenshot but it disapperas immedeiately.
I use SPB mobile shell & SPB diary combined as my today screen.
So I wont be using HTC's today screen at all.

thanks a lot.
I could not find the tweak to enable landscape mode.
Something else you could try - install AE Button Plus, map one of the buttons (e.g. volume up) to "rotate screen", rotate the screen to the orientation you want, then re-load AE Button Plus and un-map the button. That should do it? I'm not entirely sure whether this will stick when you turn off or soft reset your device though...
Alternatively you could do what I have done, and map a long press of volume up to rotate one direction and long press of volume down to rotate the other way. There are occasions where portrait mode is better, others where landscape is better. Also means that volume controls still work as intended when pressed normally. I find gsen and gyrator a bit tempremental at times, so prefer having manual control over the rotation.
Even this will not cause proper rotation if your looking to stay in landscape. tf3d will not work in landscape without some sort of bodge from the diamond. I use my htc device in a car with landscape gps apps. I gave up on tf3d as maybe i don't need it because i've got voice commander. I set gyrator to switch to the phone app and rotate if the phone was landscape and happened to be on the manilla screen. I wanted the phone app to be landscape so i can see who i'm voice calling while in the car. this works, but if you switch to another app then back to the phone then the phone goes portrait and then only re shaking and landscaping the phone gets it to go landscape. Really I don't want to touch it when im driving. I guess I could set a voice command to rotate but I dont think its worth it. I also tried unhiding the landscape with a reg edit but once again the phone app re-portraits. Im now going to try a hreset and stoping the customize incase that affects the phone orientation if not im going a hunting a reg setting as maybe there is one that causes the phone app to portrait? I swear this was easier on my universal but i refuse to give up (and im kinda having fun )

Again, in either HD Tweak or Advance Config, there's a bit where you can check which phone dialer skin is used (I think HD Tweak) maybe if you try setting the phone dialer to the original WM 6.1 dialer instead of the HTC one it might not keep switching back to portrait? You won't be able to make video calls, but that may be something you don't mind losing... I know I never use it...
No thats fine, I have ugly friends

I believe he is woohoo'ing because if you switch from HTC dialer type to WM dialer type via HD Tweak (you do loose the ability to make a video call), it then no longer rotates back to portrait mode after you switched to landscape.
Prior, it would remain in portrait mode till you accessed the dialer screen, then for some reason it would rotate back to portrait mode.
Now with the WM dialer style, it stays permanently in landscape mode.
This is with TF3d disabled of course.

Auto Landscape Question

I would like to be able to text in landscape, as fingerkeyboard is very nice in landscape mode
However I cannot get it to work.
I have made a mortscript, it just rotates my screen, regardless of settings i make.
I cannot set a key to rotate the screen as has been suggested.
Once more, Wisbar 3 will not run on my phone.
Any ideas?
not sure what to tell about landscape mode. However why do you want to use wisebar for? There should be any need for it.

idk about wisbar, i dont know what would cause it to "not run"
thanks, the problem was solved
Also, i read that you could set how programs open in wisbar 3, so i could set it to auto run texting with landscape.
However its not an issue anymore since I can rotate my screen.
