Apprently 2.2 will bo shown off at the end of next month, so not too long to wait.
Think this needs to be in general forum though...
Wait for the Google I/O. The SDK will be released shortly.
and then htc will announce that the hero will skip 2.1 to go straight to 2.2. and they will say the update will come "in 2H2010"...

What do you care?
The only thing of interest is compatible drivers, which we get from leaks.
Other than that, newer frameworks always get ported, so it's never a problem to get a working rom with the newest framework.
What difference would it have made if HTC would've released an official 2.1 GSM ROM?
None. We took the drivers (and htc-related framework, for ppl cooking SenseUI) from the CDMA and Espresso/MyTouch leaks and integrated them into our own (or ported) builds.
Does it work? Just look at the staggering amount of 2.1 ROM threads.
Which is why I can't really understand ppl making a fuss about HTC not releasing an official update...

There's a problem, it seems 2.2 will be based on the kernel 2.6.32 while 2.1 on the kernel 2.6.29.
Ciao Angelo
Useful first Post. (Sarcasm)

Two choices, A or B, slap your vote below
A: Froyo's true release ROM will be better than Cyanogen's godmix based off the pre release ROM

uhh, A?
since this pre-release is probably a RC, i would say cyan would be 'better'
A I guess
How about putting up a poll...
Cyanogen FroYo > FroYo > Cyanogen non-FroYo

Agree with this
He isnt working on a dump, wont start working on a 2.2 rom till they drop to aosp which makes this pretty much a non starter. However whenever he does get rolling it will be epic. Stock froyo will weep with embaressment. Some people will still not flash because they are worried that rooting will cause global warming.
this is a moot post since cyanogen only bases his roms off aosp, not a another rom.
Well to be accurate or technical I'd say neither cause being that this is a pre-release test ROM I doubt that Google will release the source code which Cyan uses to make his ROMs so there will be no CM ROM based off the pre-release.
Now if you ask if Cyan's ROM made after and off of the official Froyo release's source code is out then I will definitely say Cyan's will run circles around the official.
This poll doen't make any 'sense'...too early for assumptions
cyanogen....not a hard choice

This..............
1 is always less than 1+1+1+1... (i.e. CM builds are based on the official release, with lots of fixes and enhansements)
I believe the final froyo will be almost the same as this "test" release.
Froyo just hit AOSP
http://twitter.com/cyanogen
Can anyone else confirm? I have no idea where to check.
Cyanogen is a MANS man
And this is coming from a guy who doesn't even root yet...
Andy Rubin just said this at the Moto Droid X event.
Edit: So yeah, it's confirmed. Which means what, we get a Froyo version of CM tonight?
Yay.
Froyo here we come!
Awesome. Cant wait for the CM ROM
Cy says hes going off for the rest of the week though
oh hell yea!!!
as for cm flavoured froyo i rekon its gonna be a couple of weeks!
Was just about to flash to a new rom. Just finished downloading two but looks like I will wait.

Boo, lol, that sucks.
I love stock FroYo. Wonder what crazy stuff Cyanogen will come up with?
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

STILL???????
We don't even have an official FroYo ROM yet. Give CM a bit of slack.

You're joking right?
It JUST got pushed to AOSP.
these are very exciting times! not just for the CM team, but the community; unfinished/stuck projects especially.
Does this mean we might see an OTA soon?

What does this mean
I am a noob at software development. But I saw the word "OTA Timestamp" , "froyo" at the AOSP source page ( link below)
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pl...it;h=3b85269cfe10ec15e9b544dd6964b8c9f5f761f9
Can somebody explain what this means ?
I'm most interested to see if we can get a few more FPS out of 720p recording with a move to Froyo.
Am I the only one that wants an Android.com email address ???!?

Inclusion of the time/date the OTA is sent out in the metadata of the file.
Well, as you know a froyo test build for the Galaxy S I9000 recently leaked, and I was wondering if it would be possible to port it to the vibrant, Perhaps even without the source code?
It is possible through Odin, but there are lots of bugs. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740558 by eugune373. basically turns your vibrant/captivate into a i9000. Read on.

Ah I see. Thank you.
I starting to think development is not going so well. I've lost most hope here, I just hope samsung releases froyo soon. Cause I doubt there will be a good custom froyo by then. By this time the evo had tons of froyo roms that were very stable .
I stumbled upon an article linking to a download to the Gingerbread "beta" for Evo and I'm wondering:
What would happen to my current roms if I actually flashed the update? (using CM 6 and Fresh 3.4.0.1)
Is there potential to completely brick the phone to the point I won't even be able to get into the recovery to get back to a functional rom?
Its not beta. More like a "dev only" or alpha. Its in the dev forum. It wont brick your phone but It could give you some headaches if your new at flashing roms.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
it is very choppy on my phone, like 5fps choppy.
but text and web browsing worked, along with the market.
however couldn't check gmail, id click on the email and it'd open than go back to the menu right away
Is the flashing process any different than simply selecting the .zip file from clockwork, or do I need to name it update or PC36IMG?
or would it be similar to the headaches received from not wiping the data and cache to load CM 6.1 "stable"?
What exactly are you hoping to accomplish any way? The rom is purely in developmental stages right now and should in no way be used as your primary rom. It's literally going to suck. Performance is NOT there right now. Given the questions you're asking in this thread it's highly unlikely you're going to be loading this rom and helping to improve it by developing it further...
a 2.3 based rom for the Evo intended for the "end user" is likely not going to be ready for you until the source is released for 2.3.
I just saw this posted, not sure if it could be of any help to those that "were" working on the sdk port. I say were because the thread was just closed.

You are mistaken at what that rom is. It is a froyo rom for the Droid X with the gingerbread keyboard and theme.
The numbering convention for the Droid X firmwares just happen to be at 2.3.x right now which is probably confusing you. If you actually go the thread dedicated to that rom you will see: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...x-1-3-0-droid-x-running-running-fast-can.html

What was/is mis-leading is they are calling it "unofficial Gingerbread port" when they should have called it a rom with a ported theme & keyboard. They never mentioned the version # so I wasn't looking at that. Thanks for the clarification. ... Android Central>
That is a very mis-leading title.

Well the ROM creator didn't do that, it was the genius who blogged about it lol
