Charging via PS3 - HD2 General

I left my phone charger in a hotel room and is now long gone, but luckily I had 2 more USB leads waiting for me when I got home. I am now charging using my laptop and a car charger as and when I can.
I've also tried charging via my PS3 but when I plug the phone into it, it freezes up shortly afterwards. I then have to take the battery out to reboot the phone.
I have done this 3 times now and everytime it has froze my phone. Why is it doing this? Is the PS3 outputting too much power for the phone via USB?
Has anyone else charged via their PS3 and had problems?
Thanks

I'd recommend not charging anything via your PS3, other than the PS3 controllers!
I tried charging an MP3 player with it once and it actually drained the battery completely. (I suspect that it simply wasn't charging it, but because there was a cable in the device, it lit up and showed it as charging. I think that this actually drained the battery.)
It's obviously not standard, in the way USB works.
On a side note, choice excellent my friend. I <3 my PS3

If you have a wii that will charge it though.
Unfortunately you can't use your hd2 as a usb storage device for your wii though even in disk transfer mode.

Same for the PS3. It seems to work, then cuts out. It's as if the USB connection disconnects every few seconds and then connects again.

I'm afraid I'd have to start the "other" club as well, for Xbox 360 owners. I'm "one of those" too
I've not tried charging the HD2 with my 360. I'll give it a go

thanks for all of the replies. Looks like I'll not be charging via my PS3 which is a shame as it's switched on most of the time

MAYBE it would would work through a usb hub? I don't know if you can use a usb hub with a ps3 but maybe it would keep the connection open if you see what I mean. It's certainly a nice easy thing to try in any case.

works like treat. i charge it via my xbox occasionally. when its on i play music and videos from my HD2 aswell as charging it.

hmm strange I have a PS3 and a HD2 and they match perfectly. I use my PS3 as a mediaserver and have ALL my music on it. So when I want to put an album onto my HD2 I connect it to the PS3 without any problem.

I will confirm if the HDMI problem is usual, cause I know people have been having problems with that, I will be getting my HDMI cable in the mail soon, will let you know. I have sometimes experienced slow downs on mine as well. Have you tried formatting the Xoom?

The USB port is very weak on my Xoom (and others, I've read). You need to plug the USB cable into a MOTHERBOARD MOUNTED USB port to make it work reliably. Using a front panel USB port, or any other port that is cabled off of the motherboard, can cause problems.
I personnaly mount my xoom into the front panel USB port and have had no problems with it so far.
i too use the USB ports on the front of my tower and it works fine...
My USB cable that came with it was the problem, used a different one and it was transfering fine

My S2 as a Smart TV hub idea

Hi all,
I had my S2 for a while now and I'm thinking of just connecting it to my TV to be use as a smart hub (media centre) as I don't have a smart TV. I'm sure I'm not alone with an aging S2 and moving onto a newer smart phone.
My Idea are:
- connect the S2 via HDMI to the TV
- use a small Bluetooth keyboard with track pad or maybe some other remote.
- try out probably XBMC
- Disable any phone feature from it (ie phone, sms, etc..)
My goal are:
- use it as a online player - Netflix, youtube, etc...
- Skype
- video player
- stream video from network
- audio player
This will be my first attempt and will be spending some money for the accessories.
Has anyone done a similar set up.
It will be great for some opinions or advice. Or issues it might not work.
Interesting idea.
You might want to think about how you're going to use it with the limited battery life first, because you won't be able to charge the phone when connected through HDMI.
I already do this occasionally albiet minus the keyboard atm,... I use it on short breaks away I took my Mhl cable and a short 1m hdmi cable to plug into the tv in the hotel room using Catchup TV app for more channels than they offered and TV Portal for streaming (free hotel Wi-Fi ftw! )... also use it for some other stuff such as watching avis I have already put on my 32gig card and finally playing my music collection through the tv speakers
re: power supply Mhl cable needs power/charger cable to work anyway also it charges at the same time
I always carry a spare charger

of course the phone charges when connected to hdmi. it does not even work if not plugged into the power outlet first.
Flog your S2 and buy a Pendroid.

Thanks guys.
I got a mhl cable and it's awesome. just plug it in and it works straight away. Got the cheap version though but I guess it won't make that much difference. All I need to do is get a mod to permanently set it up as landscape mode and probably increase screen size. Will look for a new rom probably that can cater the mod.
Just need to figure this all out before spending more on a keyboard.
I had pretty much the same idea. Works well. Here is my thread:

I am going to try running xbmc and see how that goes.
Just to let you know, I installed xbmc...details on my thread (see the above post!)

can't connect ps3 controller over blue toot

haha I like calling it blu toot!
anyone had success using six axis ps3 controller app with nook hd+?
I was looking forward to finally having jelly bean on this tablet since
ICS has a tendency to change blue tooth addresses every time it's rebooted.
I ran the free compatibility checker from the play store, it said the nook would work.
So I used the pc pairing tool to change my ps3 controller to the address of the nook.
It won't connect.
I even got a usb gender changer to connect it directly to the nook and pair it, it won't do it.
Anyone have success pairing ps3 controller with nook hd+?

USB connection with the controller most definitely works, I tried it myself (you can also see it working in my original usbhost video).
I did not look into BT support as it sounds to be somewhat more involved than just pairing (usb connection very easy on the other hand, just plug the controller in and it jsut works (don't forget to turn it on by pressing the "start" button (triangle shaped)).
Where's the video?

Referenced from the original usbhost support announcement
aha! but you used a usb hub in the middle! didn't know I needed that.
The thing is though, the ps3 controller SHOULD definitely be able to connect
over blue-tooth, but it isn't with CM 10.1 for some reason...
I can't be the only one that would rather connect it wirelessly.
It works on nearly every tablet ever made as long as root is enabled.
if you don't mind, maybe you could download the free six axis compatibility checker
so you can see what I mean.

You would know if you'd check your dmesg to see that the ps3 controller claims it needs too much power to operate (Which it does not).
Also it's addressed in all other usb threads that devices that claim they need more than 100mA need to be hidden behind USB hub (unpowered is usually fine too).

With BT overhaul in Android 4.2 a lot of things broke on fundamental level, I know wiimotes are totally broken, it well might be that ps3 controllers are in the same boat and you'll need to wait until Google gets around to actually release unbroken implementation in 4.3

I guess I might try it one day. But my cursory reading indicates thre's some nonfree tool needed at one point in the process.
The six axis compat checker seems to only check that you have rooted device, and that's all it does.
That makes sense...didn't know it was broken implementation.
thanks very much for your words.
I can verify Sixaxis does work with CM 10.1 because I am running CM on my At&t Galaxy S2. I do not understand why with Verygreen's CM version it does not work. I mean since he is building from CM source.
very interesting...I wonder if it has to do with tablet aspects of cm 10.1
thanks for posting that Ederok.
I did get the controller working, by hooking it up to a non powered hub via usb cable, but would be so much better to use wireless blue tooth.

If it's not fixed soon I might be getting the new N7 when it releases and give my nook to someone else. A big reason that I bought this thing in the first place was so I could have a bigger screen for playing games wirelessly and knew that it was supported by CM but apparently not without its quirks

Controllers not being recognized?

I was wondering if anyone has tried hooking up a ps4 controller or any other third party? I hooked an otg cable from my ps4 to the phone and the ps4 light stays blue when it should be orange? I tried connecting via Bluetooth and it sees the device and pairs wirelessly naming it wireless controller in the device list but the buttons don't register in emulators or supported android apps that used to work with my note 5? I used to use my controller all the time but now with my new s7 edge I can't get a controller to work? Can anyone else try for me and see if you have different luck? I tried the otg to an x1 controller and it rebooted my phone....
I got the same results with the Xbox One controller. Wireless adapter still doesn't work (expected), but when plugging the controller in via USB my phone would boot-loop until I unplugged the controller. And even then it still rebooted two more times before working again. I haven't been home to try my Wii or Xbox 360 controllers yet. I thought I would just grab the XBone controller and use it with the Gear VR today on my lunch break. What a disappointment.
I tried hooking ps4 controller and had same issue. I found it might be related to faulty not tested drivers in marshmallow system. Yeah I'm disappointed too.
Moga works.
My Xbox 360 wired controller works, PS3 doesn't (wired or bluetooth).
Same problem here. PS3 controller wired with OTG, just has the 4 charge leds blinking, nothing happens.
XBOX 360 controller, home button keeps blinking and also nothing happening other then that.
Same here ps4 controller not working, causing phone to crash and boot loop when connected. I have a wired Logitech pc x input controller that I tried and it seems to work just fine. But this totally sux as I love my ds4 and was hoping to use it with the gear vr. The Logitech is no where as near as comfortable as the ds4. At least I have something that works for now. Hopefully there will be a fix.
i have tried xbox 360 wired, xbox 360 wireless receiver and a xbox one controller, none work in the s7 but the xbox 360 ones work in my other phones...
Has anybody found a way to use an Xbox one controller with their s7 devices?

I was using my xbone controller with my s7 edge and it rebooted my phone after that it doesn't read my phone anymore and it won't work with me Xbox one, wireless or wired. When I push the guide button it won't turn on and when I plug it into the Xbox it just blinks twice and dies. Don't use your Xbox one controller on your s7!! You mean to sync it to the Xbox? It does but it only blinks twice and then dies. I left it charging over night and that's all it would do. I left it charging again and I'm about to try it with my Xbox but yeah so far no luck lol
you guys know you need a custom kernel with xpadder support enabled and the xbox fixes for the linux kernel version. So if you want it build the support in the kernel and it will work.

no, the DS button I'm speaking of, is one that let u make a "factory reset" of the controller, making it like new (speaking of paired devices) so u can pair again as it was new, that ususally solves when the PS doesnt recognize it properly, but I'd never had an xbox so I don't know if that exists on their controllers
Hope they get a fix for this. Got an xbox one controller to play both on PC and my s7 edge. But.. fook this
has anyone found a solution to this yet? im now running on nougat . just getting boot loop error. it finds the controller for less then a second. soon as the xbox one controllers rumble pack generates the "connected" rumble. it shuts the phone off
Samsung Galaxy S5 SM- 900V Rooted Android 7.1 CyanogenMod 14.1 kltevzw Build NDE63P crashes and goes into boot loop when I plug in OTG cable with Xbox 360 controller attached. The second I unplug it, everything is ok. Different ROM maybe? Trying to play games using Google VR so I need to run a controller or it sucks. I have stock 360 controller and a Powera 360 mini controller (preferred)

ZTE Z982 blade z max OTG VR HELP

Hi I recently got a VR headset DLODLO H1 Glass it requires OTG To use the 9 axis head tracking and touchpad and volume buttons. My blade z obviously doesn't have OTG or root which all make this phone really suck. I noticed there is a system app that says input devices.
Is there anyway whatsoever to make this phone OTG or make it work with my $70 VR headset????
Thanks
All you need to do is go get an otg cable, I'm saying this Outta experience cuz I have this phone

weird because the cable that comes with the cell phone when plugged into my windows 10 desktop works fine. I am able to transfer my files to and from each other all day.
you dont need "on the go" to transfer data between pc and phone
